Chapter 21

Chandler's alarm went off Sunday morning and he slowly reached over to turn it off. He rolled over slightly to look at the spot next to him and saw that Monica was already awake and was just staring at the ceiling above her.

"Hey," he reached out for her hand. "Been awake long?"

"Awhile," she sighed.

"Been thinking about later?" He moved closer to her.

"Yeah," she rested her head against him. "Everything will change."

"Yes it will," he held her. "There's no way around it. It will be uncomfortable and at times unbearable, but we will get through this, though."

"I guess,"

"We will," he assured her.

They both lay in the bed not moving or saying anything for a while. Chandler looked down at her and wasn't surprised when he saw her asleep. He started to shake her and she slowly looked up at him.

"Sorry," he helped her up. "I would love to stay like this, but we have church this morning. My dad will for sure be coming to make sure we're awake soon."

"Do we have to?" she mumbled.

"It will be good to be around everyone," he told her. "Ross and Carol are coming back here after the service for support. I think Carol's parents are too."

"Ok fine," she started into the bathroom. "I'll start getting ready."

Chandler watched as she closed the door behind her and went to their closet to pick an outfit for church. He was just finishing buttoning up his dress shirt when there was a knock at the door. He turned as his dad slowly opened the door.

"You know, you could wait until I actually say you can come in."

"Sorry. I just wanted to make sure that you were awake." Charles said. "I know that you guys had a late night. You're usually ready and downstairs by now."

"We had a late start. I don't think Monica got a lot of sleep last night."

"I guess she's worried about making the announcement,"

"Yeah. I talked her into going to church at least."

"We'll see you there then." Charles closed the door and Chandler finished lacing up his dress shoes.

The bathroom door opened after a while and Monica slowly came out to him as she fastened her necklace.

"Ready to go?" he asked her.

"As I'll ever be," she grabbed her purse as he grabbed his church bag and they made their way downstairs.

They went into the kitchen to grab something to eat on the go and spotted Joey and Phoebe loading up the dishwasher. They smiled at them as they came into them and Chandler grabbed a banana for each of them.

"Are we ready?" Chandler asked them as he looked at Monica.

"Let's go," she told him and they all headed outside and climbed into Chandler's car.

They arrived at church and started inside. They went to their class and set up their things at a table in the back.

"How are we doing today kids?" Pastor Dan came up to them. "Charles and Terry mentioned what was going on when I saw them this morning."

"I'm about as well as can be," Monica told him.

"Everything will be fine," he told them.

Ross and Carol arrived and joined the four of them at their table. Monica barely listened to the Sunday school lesson or the sermon when they went to go join Chandler's dads in the service after their class.

Chandler went to go find Ross and Carol after the service while Joey and Phoebe were trying to talk to Monica to attempt to keep her calm.

"Hey," he caught up to Carol. "Do you mind taking Joey and Phoebe back to my place? I think I need to talk with Monica."

"Not a problem," she smiled at him.

Chandler went back to where Monica was and took her hand as he looked at Joey and Phoebe.

"Carol said she'd take you guys home if that's all right," he told them.

"Sure," Joey shrugged.

"What are we doing?" Monica looked at him.

"I'm taking you for frozen yogurt," he told her. "Maybe it will cheer you up and calm you down at the same time."

"Do your dads know?" Monica saw them heading towards them.

"I'll be back," he went to talk to them.

"How's she doing?" Terry saw Monica a little ways away.

"I'm going to take her out for some frozen yogurt to try to calm her down. And talk to her about what we were talking about yesterday before the dance."

"Don't stay out too long," Charles told him. "And do not announce anything on any social media platform until you get back home."

"Got it," he walked back to Monica and smiled at her. "Ready?"

She smiled back at him and nodded as they walked out to his car and climbed in. Chandler pulled out of the parking lot and drove into town and pulled up to the ice cream shoppe.

"Hey Sid," Chandler greeted the owner and glanced at Monica. "The usual?"

"Chocolate," she corrected him.

"Two chocolate ice creams," Chandler told Sid.

"Coming right up," Sid smiled at them as they went to go sit at an empty table.

Chandler sat in the chair beside Monica's as they waited for their ice cream. They only had to wait a few minutes and smiled at Sid as he brought them out to them.

"Thank you," Chandler smiled at him and he walked back behind the counter.

Monica slowly ate her ice cream as Chandler tried not to watch her too much. He finished his and moved closer to her and she rested her head on his shoulder.

"I'm nervous too, you know." he held her.

"I know," she said softly. "I just don't want all the attention that this announcement will draw towards us."

"Neither do I," he kissed her cheek. "It will be better to do this on our terms, though. Instead of everyone finding out by accident."

"I agree," she finished her ice cream. "As soon as we announce this, things will change. And we'll probably have some unwanted guests."

"We're prepared," Chandler assured her. "I suggested we do this because I also kind of wanted to talk to you about something."

"What do you need to talk about?"

"Well, my computer teacher gave me an assignment for the semester."

"You were telling me about that. You said you couldn't figure out what you wanted to do."

"Well Joey gave me an idea yesterday," he told her.

"What was his idea?"

"He suggested a blog, through the perspective of a married expectant teenage father."

"What?"

"I don't have to do it." he rushed to assure her. "But Joey made a very good point about why I should do it."

"What did he say?"

"That after the announcement everyone will be making up their own version of events. Why not get the real story out there."

"That ia a good point," she told him.

"So what do you think?"

"I think you should do it," she smiled. "But on one condition."

"What's the condition?"

"I get approval over everything you post. Just so I know that there's nothing too personal being released."

"Deal," he smiled at her as he glanced at the time. "We should get back now."

"I'm ready. Let's go." they threw their trash away and headed outside.

Chandler pulled up his driveway and parked in the garage. They climbed out of the car and started into the house. They walked through the kitchen and spotted everyone waiting for them in the den.

"Lighten up everyone," Chandler told them. "You look like we're heading off to our deaths."

Monica headed upstairs to change out of her church clothes and Chandler followed behind her. They finished changing out of their dress clothes and grabbed their laptops before heading back out of the room and downstairs where everyone was waiting for them. They set up their laptops on the coffee table and sat on the floor before them as they opened them up.

"So what are you doing first?" Charles asked them.

"I think we should start with changing our relationship status," Monica said.

"Sounds good to me," Chandler logged onto his Facebook and went onto his profile and typed a few things. "Ready to publish?"

"Ready,"

"In 3...2...1…Go!" they both clicked on their mouse and held their breath.

"You realize it's not going to have instant reactions right?" Ross spoke up.

"Give us a break dude," Chandler glared at him. "We're nervous."

"Leave them alone," Carol glared at him.

"But it is now Facebook official," Monica told them all.

"So what next?" Terry asked

"Instagram?" Chandler looked at Monica.

"Sure," Monica opened up a new tab so she could switch back and forth between her social media accounts.

"We'll keep an eye on your guys' Facebook pages," Phoebe told them. "Let you know if there's any activity on your posts."

"I got Chandler's," Joey opened the tablet that used to be Chandler's.

"Same thing we posted on Facebook?" Chandler asked.

"Wait, since your wedding photos aren't back yet," George took out his phone and a few seconds later, Monica and Chandler's phones beeped with new text messages. "I took my own photos on the beach when you got married. You need a good wedding picture to go with the Instagram post anyway."

"Thanks," Chandler took out his phone and added it to his collection then switched back to his laptop.

"Ready?" Monica looked at him.

"3...2...1...Go!" they both posted at the same time.

"Chandler, you have a comment from Facebook," Joey told him.

"From who and what does it say?" Charles asked.

"Stevenson from the soccer team," Chandler clicked on his notifications. "It says, 'Hey Bing, is this a joke or what?'"

"Do we respond?" Monica asked.

"Wait," Chandler clicked on a few things. "I'm changing my cover photo to the bridal party group shot, and my profile picture to the closeup of the two of us."

"I'll do the same," Monica clicked on a few things.

"Do you mind if I post a picture on my Facebook?" Ross asked

"Which one?" Monica asked.

"Charles and Terry took a picture of me walking you down the aisle at the wedding," Ross told them. "Is it ok?"

"Fine with me," Chandler looked at Monica. "But it will almost guarantee a visit from your parents today."

"Might as well get it over with," Monica said. "Rip the bandaid off."

Ross tapped away at his phone and they all received notifications. Terry smiled as he read the post that Ross wrote to go along with it.

"Nice," Terry chuckled. "Very sweet post but also very subtle. Or not so subtle."

"Let me see," Phoebe clicked on her notifications.

Along with the picture, Ross had written: 'Proud brother moment: Getting to walk my baby sister down the aisle at her wedding. Was happy to fill in when someone else lost the right. Such a memorable day for all.'

"Nice," Adalee smiled at the post. "They'll definitely be over here. Once the whole neighborhood stops calling them."

"Should we announce the pregnancy?" Chandler asked Monica.

"I wasn't going to post anything until we had our first appointment and found out how far along I am."

"Didn't we already figure that out?"

"Roughly,"

"I'd ease everyone in," Terry told them. "Start with the marriage announcement. Then you can announce the pregnancy in a few days."

"So I guess we wait then." Chandler looked at Monica.

"Now we wait," she agreed.

"Want to help me write my first blog post?" Chandler asked.

"Sure," she smiled at him.

"So you agreed to let him do it then?" Joey asked excitedly.

"Yes, thank you for your idea, Joey," Monica told him.

"What are you talking about?" Ross asked.

"I have a weekly project in my computer class," Chandler explained to him. "Joey suggested that I start a blog from the perspective of a married expectant teenage father. Monica approves."

"Excellent idea," Carol smiled.

"So do you need to pick out a website where you want to post it?" Monica asked.

"Not yet," Chandler told her. "I just need a summary of what it's going to be about and the start of the rough draft for the first post."

"Well then…." Monica helped him as he started tapping away at his keyboard and everyone kept a constant watch on their social media pages.
