-"I am almost envious of your untapped potential."

This time it was me who snorted.
-"No you are not. I was lucky to be born into a family with an ounce of common sense and not enough Magus-ness to matter. The price for turning me in would have been a sweet sweet temptation that only wealthy bloodlines could dismiss out of hand."

Rin swatted me with a pillow.
-"As if! That would be a criminal misuse of assets. Noooo...I have to invest in you, get some people to flash their treasures in braggadocio only for later on rent your copies."

-"I like it when you talk about my assets."

Another pillow swatted me aside.
-"Fool! Cad! Degenerate!"
She accentuated each word with another pillow to my head.

I traced a white flag and waved it to stop the unrelenting onsalught.
-"Your Degenerate, lady wife."

At this she stopped, cheeks flush.
-"I never thought that I would spend my wedding night fighting with pillows, and here we are."

Using my temporary respite, I took some blankets and made myself comfortable.
-"My parents made it look so easy."

Rin put back her fluffy weapon and stared back at the ceiling.
-"You would have liked her."

-"Who?"

-"My mother, Aoi. She was like you. Everyone at the school thinks you are harmless."

I nodded at that. That was good for business, a good cover was essential.

Rin continued, her voice soothing.
-"My dad once mentioned the chance of giving my sister away, because the Magical Crest only goes to the heir. I was but a child, who woke up to pee in the middle of the night. I have never seen my father so scared in my life. She didn't shout, she approached him and told him something to his ear."

I turned on my side, facing her.
-"That's why you are so protective of your sister, innit?"

Her eyes found mine, but where I anticipated pain at the memory, I found steel.
-"If you ever dare to think of giving away a child of mine, even in jest, I will murder you. Are we clear?"

Death threats made me warm and fuzzy on the inside, so sue me for kissing my wife.
