I suppressed my disgust when I saw Maiya gloves and milking the frogs. Again.
-"Why frogs?"
She smiled and closed her eyes, like dad when scrounging up some incriminating tale about us.
-"We used to have snakes at home, easier to feed and not so sensitive to climate changes as these fellas."
A red frog with blue legs closed its prominent eyes in bliss while Maiya caressed its back with a cotton swab.
"Shiriou was still in nappies when he bowled over the snake's habitat."
My hands went to my mouth.
-"Did they bit him?"
She put down the frog and got a smaller one, this one bright yellow.
-"Nope. Usually, even venomous snakes avoid confrontation, they retreated to find a warm place. A safe place."
This time the tiny frog got spooked when Maiyas's cellphone vibrated. She removed her gloves and discarded them.
"Hi dear...nice. If she switches sides, that means more grandbabies...Good, the old RPGs got used up, I bough a few dozen more...Kisses..."
I approached the table, now that the eeewss were in their ...aquarium? Glass house?
-"Where did you find the snakes?"
She got a wicked grin and showed me her cellphone.
-"The snake curled up under Shiriou's pillow and when he went to nap, she hissed."
The phone had a picture of a wailing child in diapers running from an enraged snake.
