Chapter 30

Chandler slept for several hours before waking up around lunch to text everyone to see how school was for them that day. When Monica responded back that everything was fine, he knew that she wasn't telling him the whole truth. So he texted both Joey and Phoebe, who told him that it was a little rough for all of them. Chandler told them to keep him updated in case they needed to call Stan about what was going on.

Chandler went back to sleep and slept for a couple more hours before climbing out of bed and going downstairs to the living room. He heard his aunt and uncle trying to get his niece and nephew to eat their lunch in the kitchen and sighed as he lay back on the couch.

"I thought I saw you sneak in here," Max came out with a plate for him. "I'm surprised you all were able to sleep through your niece and nephew making all that racket."

"I was very tired,"

"So, how much have you texted Monica throughout the day?" Max sat in the chair across from him.

"Just around lunchtime," he told him. "But I also texted Joey and Phoebe because I knew that she wouldn't tell me the whole truth."

"And what did they tell you?"

"That it hasn't been the best day for any of them,"

"Do you guys need to call Stan again?"

"We can't prove anything," Chandler told him. "So there's no point."

"I might have an idea," Max smiled at him.

"What?"

"I'll show you later," he assured him.

Chandler slowly ate his sandwich as Max scrolled through the satellite channels. Chandler picked up his phone again as it went off with a text message.

"Monica?" Max looked at him.

"Ross," he opened the message. "Oh boy."

"What? Something else with his parents?"

"Not yet. He says that his Nana wants to come over here after he gets out of school. For a meeting."

"Ooh, the big talk with the scary grandmother," Max smiled at him.

"Chandler!" James and Jenna ran in and jumped up on the couch with him.

"Careful," Sherrie told them. "Your cousin is still healing."

"Speaking of, do you need help changing any bandages or anything?" Max looked at him.

"No, it's only a brace," Chandler told him. "I only take it off when I am taking a shower."

"Hey," they all looked up and saw Charles and Terry coming into them.

"You guys are awake too," Max smiled at them.

"Well, our phone kept going off the last fifteen minutes," Terry told them.

"It's not the school, is it?" Chandler asked them.

"No," Charles assured him. "It's our friend at the dealership. He said that Monica's car is ready for pickup. So if she doesn't have anything planned after school, we can take her to trade her junk car in."

"I don't think she has anything planned," Chandler told him. "But Ross texted me. Told me that his Nana wants to have a meeting with all of us."

"We figured she would do that before she went back down to Florida."

"Why are there so many channels on this thing?" Max commented as he started scrolling on the TV again.

"We have four teenagers living here, almost five, who all have different tastes in shows and movies."

"Five?" Sherrie looked up at them. "Planning on taking in more kids?"

"We all agreed that it's just a matter of time before Ross decides that he's had enough of living with his parents and ends up here," Terry told them.

"Monica's surprised that he's not here already," Chandler said. "But his birthday is next week. He'll be eighteen, so he could leave if he wanted to, and they wouldn't be able to do anything about it."

"Which is why the room at the end of the hall will remain untouched for now,"

The group of them lounged around the living room until three o'clock when Terry went to go meet Monica at the dealership, and Charles went to go pick up Joey and Phoebe from school. Chandler asked for his laptop, and his aunt brought it to him as he took out his notes for his first blog for computer class.

"Here we go," Max came into them with a box. "I knew I had a set of these in the car for when I travel to other businesses."

"What is it?" Chandler put his things down.

"Here," Max opened the box and pulled out a pair of wire-framed glasses.

"Glasses?" Chandler looked at him.

"Not just any glasses," Max handed them to his nephew, and Chandler slipped them on. "Can I borrow your laptop for a minute?"

"Sure," Chandler said slowly as he glanced at Sherrie, who smiled knowingly.

Max typed something into the search engine on Chandler's laptop and turned it to face him. It looked like a set of surveillance cameras, but they were all darkened.

"Are we supposed to be seeing something right now?" Chandler looked at his uncle.

"There should be a button on the left side of the frame. It's very small, but if you can press it, you will see what this is about."

Chandler felt all along the glasses and very faintly felt a button. He pressed it down, and as soon as he did, an image popped up on the computer. He glanced around, and whatever he was looking at showed up on the camera on the screen.

"What is this?" Chandler took the glasses off briefly.

"We are working with a new company. They wanted a way to prove some things that were going on inside their company walls."

"Cool," Chandler put the glasses back on.

"Stand up," Max told him. "Walk towards the door, and I will see how much of a range these things can get."

Chandler got up and slowly started walking towards the door as Max stood up as well and started backing up. The door suddenly opened, and Charles came in, followed by Joey and Phoebe.

"What's going on?" Charles looked at his son.

"Uncle Max is letting me use these to try to catch the teachers and other students treating us unfairly," Chandler told him.

"Max," Charles sighed.

"It's the perfect cover," Max called. "We can say that the doctor said that he has to wear the glasses while in school so as to not strain his eyes and therefore making his concussion come back."

"Where did your uncle get something like that?" Joey asked.

"His company is working with another company," Chandler told him.

"Is your uncle a spy?" Phoebe asked, excited. "Or, ooh, does he work with the CIA?"

"What? No." Chandler looked at her. "He develops new technology."

"Huh?" Joey and Phoebe looked at him strangely.

"He takes something that already exists in a technological sense and reworks it so that it's better. Hence new technology."

"I don't get it," Joey said. "But I want to see this."

"Me too," Phoebe followed Joey to where Max was, and they glanced at the computer screen. "That is cool."

"I don't think this is allowed in his school," Charles was saying. "Stan-"

"So call him and see if he approves," Max told him. "Word of mouth will not get you very far. After awhile, it's going to be a whole case of he-said, she-said."

"He's right," Chandler told his dad. "And after the end of the year, I won't be there to see everything going on. Maybe Uncle Max can give Monica something."

"I sure can," Max smiled.

"All right," Charles sighed. "But only if Stan signs off on it."

"Yes!" Chandler cheered.

All of a sudden from outside, there was a loud honk and they all rushed to the door to see Monica pull up the driveway driving a dark blue Ford Explorer. They all rushed out to see it as Monica climbed out from the front seat.

"So what do you think?" Monica asked them.

"I think it's great," Chandler smiled at her.

"What's with the glasses?" she looked at him.

"Oh, it's Uncle Max's idea," he took them off. "It's a way for us to get proof about what's going on at school. I'll tell you all about it."

"This is great," Joey commented as he opened up the back. "Lots of room for the baby and all the stuff it needs."

"Exactly," Monica looked at Chandler. "Now it's your turn."

"What?"

"Terry said that as soon as you are healed, you will be going to the dealership to pick out your trade-in."

"Hey, I have been doing research." he defended himself. "I just need to narrow it down."

"Just get something with lots of room and good gas mileage."

"Right,"

"So Ross said he texted you earlier," she told him as she locked up the car and they all headed inside.

"About your Nana coming over," he followed her in. "So the big talk huh?"

"Probably," she smiled at him. "I think that she's been talking to your dads as well. So they have probably told her that we haven't done anything yet."

"Should we reveal it tonight then?" Chandler smiled at her.

"Definitely," she agreed.

"Great find," Max told Monica as they walked into the living room. "Chandler forgot to turn off the glasses."

"Right," Chandler pressed the button and handed them back to him. "Until we get the ok."

"Come on," Monica pulled Chandler upstairs. "Let's talk."

"Right behind you," he grabbed his things and followed her up.

"What was that about?" Sherrie looked at Joey and Phoebe.

"College stuff," Joey told him. "The guidance counselor is starting to meet with all the seniors."

"Getting closer," Max looked at Charles. "Are you ready for this?"

"Not at all,"

Chandler set his things up on the bed as Monica sat down beside him. She watched him open up his laptop to what he was working on before they all got home.

"I thought you were supposed to be resting today," she told him. "Doesn't that include no homework?"

"Hey, I slept almost all day." he defended himself. "I didn't even come downstairs until right before you guys got home."

"Well here is all your homework," she took something out of her bag and handed it to him.

"And I need to work on my first blog post," he told her. "Do you feel like helping me?"

"Of course," She smiled at him. "But we do need to talk about something else."

"What?"

"Our future," she placed a pile down in between them. "We are supposed to schedule our college appointments soon."

"I don't even know what the scouts thought of my playing last night. I probably messed everything up when I got hurt."

"That was not your fault," she told him. "Besides, accidents happen in life. I am sure that the scouts understand that."

"I guess," he sighed as he went through all his homework. "Other than soccer, I don't know what I want to do in college. I have no idea what my major should be."

"I think I know," she told him. "And I am pretty sure you know what you want to do deep down."

"What do you mean?"

"All right," she took his laptop from him. "You have a tendency to leave your computer unattended while you leave things open on it."

"What are you doing?"

"Hold on," she clicked on something and brought up a list of documents that were in an unnamed file on his computer. "I have not read any of them past the first couple of lines after I figured out that it wasn't for school."

"How long have you known about this?" he asked softly.

"About a month," She saw that he was avoiding looking at her. "They are really good. You should see where you can take this."

"This is just something that I do for fun. I am not going to pursue this."

"I know what this is about," she turned his head so that he was looking at her.

"What do you mean?"

"This is about your mom," she stated and she saw a dark look come over him.

"Don't-"

"Don't you shut down on me," she glared at him. "You are a great writer. You could do something with this if you chose to."

"I can't,"

"Why? Because it would be connected to what your mom does to make a living?"

"I don't want to be connected to her in any way,"

"Think of it this way. Your mom never had any training before she started her career. If you study this is college, you will get trained up and could be even better at it than her. And that would be the ultimate revenge, in my opinion."

"You can talk me into anything, you know that?"

"So will you consider it at least?"

"I will think about it,"

"Good," she smiled at him.

"My first blog post is due next week so I should start working on it."

"Don't put too much thought into it," she told him.

"The first post will probably be my background," he started to open up the website he would be posting on.

"Guys?" there was a knock on the door and Joey stuck his head into the room.

"What's up?" Chandler looked up at him.

"Terry says that supper is almost ready," he told them. "And Ross and Carol just got here with your Nana."

"Let's go," Chandler shut down his computer and they all walked out of the room and downstairs.
