Chapter 13: An Unlikely Reunion

Having chased down a hooded figure into the Forbidden Forest just outside of Hogwarts, and finding out just who this figure is, that being his own mother, Hiccup stares the auburn-haired woman down as he asks, "M…Mom, what are you doing here? What is going on?"

The woman sighs. "Of all the people who could've seen my face, it just had to be you, didn't it?"

Hiccup's dragon, Cindra, stood just behind him but on a guard in case the woman tried anything. Hiccup asks, "Mom, look, I don't know what's going on here, but you need to come with me! There are all sorts of rumors about you and I wanted to see if they were true!"

The woman then scoffs. "Oh, stop it with that whole mother thing! I am not your mother!"

Hiccup stares at the woman with wide eyes. "Wh…what did you say?" He was so certain that this was the woman who birthed him a decade ago, as he as seen this very face on several photos in his home.

The woman scoffs. "Listen here, boy, I am not your mother. I killed that witch when you were just an infant. I just happen to share her first name…" She holds her arms out and states, "I am Valka Deathwish!"

Hiccup's heart was pounding so hard that it was close to leaping out of his chest, he couldn't believe any of this. "I don't…what?!"

Valka smirks, "I suppose you need an explanation. Your pathetic mother and I went to Hogwarts the same year, both on the Gryffindor house, both with the same name! Many confused the two of us for twins! Though while she excelled in just about everything she did, I could barely scrape by with anything I turned in, leaving me in the dust.

As the years went on, I grew a hatred for that witch and how she was so "perfect", a hatred which only increased after we graduated. I knew I needed to do something drastic to make things right for me, and that's when I was visited by…my master.

My master showed me that I could harness this hatred and use it to defy all those who have wronged me, so I did just that. I killed your mother soon after you were born and was about to go for you had your giant of a father not step in and shoo me away.

I then began to get people to believe that it was I who died that night and your mother was the one causing havoc by killing innocent lives, which worked like a charm as wizards are just so gullible these days. Now I live to serve my master and do exactly what he wishes…and now that I've told you this, it's time for you to die as well."

It was an earful, for sure, but Hiccup was able to process all of that information to put the pieces together in his mind. "So you're…a Death Eater?" He asks, worrying that this 'master' of hers just might be the dark lord himself. He takes a step back as Cindra lowers a wing around him in a defensive position.

Valka shakes her head. "Not yet, but once word gets out that I've taken out Dumbledore's little dragon prodigy and brought him with me, the Dark Lord will be begging me to join him!"

Hiccup boldly states, "There is no way in hell that I'm joining you-know-who."

Valka scoffs. "Come on, boy, think about it! You may not realize it, but you possess power that only so few wizards can manage. You are only a child, yet you managed to tame a dragon that's 3 times your size. Think about it, the power you could possess, the magic and spells that you have yet to even imagine, it could all be yours if you come with me."

Hiccup had no clue what to do at this point. Go get Professor McGonagall? No, that could give Valka a chance to escape. Try to reason with her? Doesn't seem like the best option either. Have Cindra take him away? Again, Valka could just escape then. In the end, Hiccup decided this… "I might not know my power as a wizard, but at least I do know who I am as a person. I am Hiccup Haddock, dragon trainer and Gryffindor student! And I will never join someone who only seems to seek power! Flipendo!" He says as he flicks his wand, sending a blast towards Valka that she dodges perfectly.

Valka smirks. "You fool, thinking such a childish spell will work on me?" Hiccup takes another step back. "Let me show you how a REAL wizard fights!" She flicks her wand towards Hiccup, sending a red blast that Cindra shields him from with her wing, sending a jolt of pain up her spine.

Hiccup asks, "Are you ok, Cindra?" Cindra grunts in confirmation as she rubs her wing before Hiccup rushes away as Valka continues to fire various beams and blasts at Hiccup, all of which he narrowly avoids before he uses the lifting spell to fling a rock to Valka, which she blows up and finds that Hiccup wasn't there. Cindra flees the scene as well, using the darkness of her black scales to blend into the dark forest.

Valka walks around the area they were in saying in a luring tone, "Come on out, boy! I know you're there!"

Hiccup continued to stay hidden behind a rock that was rather close to where Valka was standing, keeping mind to be as quiet as possible. Valka states, "You can't hide forever, boy…I can sense you…you are feeling conflict…you want to see this power of yours yet you aren't sure what it will mean for you."

Hiccup let out a silent gulp as what she was saying was true, Hiccup was rather curious as to what this power she speaks of does mean for him, but also is only seeking power really the right road for him?

Valka then smirks. "Well then, if you won't talk, then perhaps I can get your precious dragon to do the talking for me! I've hurt her before, and I'll gladly do it again!"

This strikes a chord in Hiccup's mind as he hears her say that. Valka's smirk doesn't fade for a second. "That's right, boy, it wasn't the fall that broke your dragon's leg, it was all me! I just used the fall as a cover up, and that is just a mere fraction of the power that both my master and the Dark Lord can show you…come, boy. Show yourself."

Hiccup's fists were clenched tight around his wand and he began to shake, both because it was a cold winter night, but also from the anger he was feeling. It was then that Hiccup thinks to himself, "You hurt my friend…so you must pay!"

He then leaps out of the rock he was hiding behind and flicks his black wand towards Valka, sending a blue blast that she barely had a second to dodge. Valka looks behind herself as the spell blows up behind her, sending snow, rocks, tree branches and dirt in all directions, only making Valka smirk even harder. "So, you're starting to see what I mean."

Hiccup then states, "I'm just getting started you WITCH!" He flicks his wand again, making a tree behind Valka burst into flames, which she leaps out of the way of. Hiccup does this with various other wand flicks, making fiery explosions that just miss Valka with each blast.

Hiccup then points his wand up towards the sky and makes every rock near him within a 5 mile radius lift up. Valka stares at the scene with wide eyes before Hiccup sends several rocks towards Valka.

Valka attempts to blast the incoming rocks, but Hiccup was sending them at such a rate that one rock hits her in the torso and knocks her onto her back.

Hiccup then walks towards Valka with full intention of doing more, but that's when Cindra drops in front of him, spreading her wings around him and letting out grunts. "Cindra! GET AWAY!" Hiccup yells, attempting to push Cindra out of the way so he could finish the job, but that's when Cindra lowers her head and meets Hiccup at eye level with a worried look.

The glare in Cindra's glowing green eyes caused Hiccup to put his wand down and his eyes widen as he realizes just what he was doing. Hiccup glances down to Cindra's leg which, even though any damage done was gone, he remembered that it was his kindness that led him to the best friendship he had ever known, so he hugs Cindra's large head saying, "You're right, girl. If I give into my anger, then I'm no better than her…but we still can't just leave her here, not after what she's done…"

He then approaches Valka, who was trying to get back onto her feet after getting knocked over by a rock, but is stopped as Hiccup points his wand right at Valka's face before saying, "You and your magic abilities have done quite enough, now let's see how you handle being without them. Magica Delpleso!"

The tip of Hiccup's wand glows white for a moment before Valka's body begins to take on a faint blue glow, this glow turned into a sort of energy that forms a sphere above Valka's head before bursting like a balloon and fading into the air. Once that was done, Hiccup comments, "It's done."

Valka stares at Hiccup with wide eyes before asking, "Wh…what did you do?"

Hiccup replies, "I stripped you of your ability to use magic, I figured it was the least I could do without hurting anyone any further. You are now, and will be for the rest of your life, a muggle."

Realizing this, Valka holds up her wand and gives it a flick, finding that nothing happens, so she looks back up to Hiccup and asks, "…Why even bother? Why not just KILL ME?"

Hiccup says with a straight of a face as he can muster, "…because I'm not a killer."

He turns around and begins to walk away, Cindra in tow, and gets a good distance from Valka before he hears the voice of a teenage boy from his right. "Brilliant work, Hiccup. You should be proud."

Hearing this voice, and not expecting to hear it, Hiccup turns and sees, from the depths of the forest, a black haired boy who must have been 16 years old wearing a red sweater, glasses and has what looks like a lightning bolt shaped scar on his forehead emerges.

The boy says to Hiccup, "You did exactly what you should've. Instead of taking a life, you just made things harder for them, and that's exactly what I would've done."

Hiccup had no clue who this boy is or where he came from, but it seems that he saw what happened, so Hiccup replies, "Uh…thank you?" To Cindra's eyes, Hiccup just said thank you to nobody and was quite confused, but chose not to say anything. "Uh, who are you, exactly?"

The boy shakes his head, "Doesn't matter now. Just know that I'm someone who has, or at least who will, be dealing with some very dark forces myself in the years to come, including that of the one who stripped me of my parents."

Hearing all of that, and remembering the rumors he had heard, Hiccup just had to ask, "Wait, are you…Harry Po-"

He was cut off as the boy holds up a finger. "Shhh. This is between the two of us, understand?" The boy gives Hiccup a wink.

Before Hiccup could even respond, the boy suddenly fades away into thin air, as if he was never actually there, and that's when he hears footsteps approaching him from nearby. Looking up a bit, Hiccup spots Professor McGonagall walking up to him saying, "Haddock. I thought that was you that I heard."

Hiccup then realizes that this must mean he was in a world of trouble, so fear builds up inside of him as he asks, "Uh…Professor…h-how much did you see?"

McGonagall replies, "Enough. Come, we have much to discuss." Hiccup just nods to this and follows the green robed wizard back to the Hogwarts castle.
