NOTE: I posted two chapters very close together. If you have not yet read Day 8, you may want to read that first.
Livi Carnelian, 18, D1F:
Eliza's wrong about a lot of things, but she's right about my story about last night being bullshit. I was wearing night vision goggles, so of course I saw the Eleven girl skulking around the Cornucopia. She's obviously our thief. Once I saw the outline of her body heat appear behind the pile of supplies, I knew exactly what to do.
It was a risk. However, I knew one of two things would happen: she would either take the water bottle or she wouldn't. I couldn't guarantee what she'd use the water for if she did take it. The water bottle, of course, belonged to Eliza. Water purification capsules? When Eliza had her own, in her pack? It was the poison I'd confiscated from Oscar. When Rafe's on watch, he leans against the pile. It's terrible form. I also knew he would be drowsy, and I made sure all of my belongings were right in his sight line, but easier pickings were in the thief's reach. I saw her descending the platforms, but then the second part of the plan would have been ruined. It wasn't just about getting rid of the thief. It was about getting rid of the other Careers' supplies.
So she took the poisoned water and the three packs when Rafe was in charge, and nothing was my fault, but of course Rafe asked me if we really had to wake Eliza and Oscar right away, which gave me the perfect opportunity. I told him if I caught the thief, nobody would have to know about his mistake but me, and of course he practically begged me to. So I went off in the general direction Soya went in, kept busy for an hour, shot an arrow at a rabbit in the underbrush, and gave a fake scream, just in case Rafe was listening. I messed around for another thirty minutes or so, then came back to camp and informed him I'd wounded the thief, but they'd hidden from me. He came up with the idea of giving a little speech to our allies about the events and wrote it all by himself. He genuinely feels bad about letting the thief get away with those packs.
When I do get rid of Eliza, Rafe won't trust me anymore. That suits me just fine. The important thing is that he won't have any supplies when we split, and Oscar can choose whether to stick by me or go it alone with nothing at all. The thief problem might not be over. Somebody else might have died. We won't know until the anthem comes on. Most importantly, at least half the plan worked.
When Eliza thinks something's suspicious, she becomes contrarian and argumentative. She doesn't consider the potential ramifications of her actions, or that something might be a setup. All I need before implementing my next plan is to win a little more of Rafe's trust. Our hunting expedition today ultimately turned up nothing, but the Gamemakers were clearly trying to send us a message. I think that there were tributes around, but we weren't looking in the right place. The Gamemakers might have wanted us to discover their location on our own, or they didn't want to be unfair to the hidden tributes.
The evening is strained. The discussion revolves around Radley, the Gamemakers, and, of course, the thief. Finally, the Capitol seal appears in the sky, and the anthem blares. The Eleven girl's face lights up the night, scowling at me. "I told you I got her," I say. I need to make Eliza as ticked off as possible. I already made her feel foolish this morning and made her stay at the base while the rest of us searched for tributes. She needs to be so furious with me that she starts automatically rebelling against everything I say. Once I get her that angry, leading her into danger will be no problem at all.

12th: Soya, drank water poisoned by Livi Carnelian
Eulogies:
Soya was such a cunning character, and I had a lot of fun planning her exploits in the arena. Writing about her stealing from the Careers, not just once, but twice, was so much fun for me, but unfortunately, Livi was smarter and better-equipped. Massive thanks to Tia for submitting her, and apologies for pitting your kiddos against each other!
Hey y'all!
Short chapter this time! Were you expecting this to be the real story? If you caught the two major clues I embedded in the last chapter (not found in any of the POV sections, hint hint), tell me in a review. Bonus points if you get them right! The next chapter will likely be posted a week from now. It depends on how much Reprisal stuff I finish.
