Alex and Olivia were at the rink for one last private practice before she had to share the ice with skaters. Olivia was hanging out on the side as usual. Alex was playing with Olivia's hair.
"Cabot this isn't a social hour, and you have a six hour flight tonight to make out." Liz called out the two that were wasting precious ice time. "Benson, don't make me ban you from the rink during private hours."
"Busted." Olivia smiled at her girlfriend. They scrunch their noses at each other. Alex skated over to Liz.
Olivia sat down next to Trevor, "You know this is the first time she is bringing someone to a competition that isn't a part of her team."
"She's told me this information." Olivia watched Alex and Liz talk things out. Alex skated her long program before they called it a day. She moved with music. She hit everyone with her jumps, and her footwork. "She looks so good."
"She's definitely had an improvement in her programs this year. Russo doesn't stand a chance."
Alex was preparing for her last jumping pass. She did a quad Lutz hands over the head, landing forward on her ankle to move into the triple Loop. She landed forward on her ankle with not enough space to swing her left leg out. She fell down on her side. She quickly got up to finish her program.
She skated over to Liz at the end. Olivia could see from the distance something was wrong. "That was terrible." Alex called out to Liz. She continued to skate around to avoid the pain of an aggravated ankle.
"No, it was great except for the last combination." Liz watched Alex tapping her right foot on her toe pick as she let the left foot move through the motions. "How's your ankle?"
"It's fine." She shot her coach. "From the top?" She knew she needed to get the program right.
"Do the last combination." Liz commanded. "Is there a problem?"
"No, music." Alex commanded as she skated around the rink to try to loosen her ankle.
The music started in the middle of the song. Liz watched hesitation coming from Alex, "Just do it!" Alex took a deep breath in to do her exact same jumping combination. She landed perfectly. "That's it. And you skate perfectly on Sunday. You've got this." Alex moved in front of Liz, "Alex come sit down on the bench."
Alex shook her head, "It's fine." She stepped off the ice, and sat down.
"Take off the boot." Liz told her skater.
Alex took off her skate to show her foot, "See it's fine. It's not swollen and I can move it."
Liz held the back of her ankle to watch Alex flinch. She sat down next to her student and stretched her foot to watch Alex squirm, "Oh that's fine?"
"Yes it just needs some ice."
"Alexandra let's get it checked out. Your flight leaves in a few hours if you have time."
"No," Alex does not want to hear from the doctors before a competition.
"Olivia." Liz called out.
Olivia ran down to the two. "Yeah?" She sat down on the other side of Alex.
"I need you to get Alex's things, and we'll meet you at the airport." Liz commanded her student's lover.
"Why?" Olivia took Alex's hand.
"Liz, I'm fiiii." Liz squeezed Alex's ankle causing her to jump. "Iine"
"Listen to her, this is what you pay her for." Olivia kissed the side of Alex's head, "I'll see you in a few hours."
Liz and Alex were rushed into Alex's doctor. X-rays were performed on her ankle. Dr. Frantz walked in with Alex's chart.
"Well good thing Ms. Cabot nothing is broken, just a small sprain. You should be all healed in about a week." She sat down on her rolling chair.
"A Week?! Absolutely not. I have competition tomorrow."
"Well if you want the speedy recovery I would suggest you not to go." Frantz messed with her ankle.
"You suggest?" Alex was not going to cancel on an international competition and to show her rivals that she injured herself at the beginning of the season. "But you're also saying I can still skate? Can't you just give me a B12 injection and send me on my way?"
"That will help with the pain, not your ankle."
"Alexandra." Liz knows Alex's bigger goal is the Olympics and that this is a small sacrifice.
Alex looked at Liz but hearing her mother that a sprained ankle isn't a reason to not skate. "No," Alex jumped off the bed, she began pacing back and forth. "Look, let's wrap it up and give me enough injections to last me the weekend." Alex began to scratch her neck. "Are you telling me I can't skate this weekend?"
"Well… no… but…"
"Then it's settled." Alex sat down, "and we have a plane to catch in three hours." Alex looked down at her watch.
Olivia and Rafael were sitting down at the airport at their gate waiting for Alex and Liz to show up.
"Look at us, did you ever think in our wildest dreams that we would be supporting figure skaters on the sidelines?" Barba looked over to his companion. "And they get off the ice and go to our beds."
Olivia smiled at her friend talking to her, "Yeah since when do you like skating."
"Since Sonny Carisi came into my life and showed me how limber skaters can be. Obviously you know." He watched Olivia get quiet. "Are you saying you haven't had sex with that woman?" Olivia shook her head. "Why in the world not?"
"Because I want show her that she means more to me than sex. And I hope she thinks the same thing." She confessed her insecurities.
"Are you stupid?" Rafael smacked Olivia's knee.
"Excuse me?" Olivia didn't like being insulted as she tried to be honest with someone.
"Olivia Benson, look at me," Olivia looked at Rafa hazel eyes. "That girl is so in love with you everyone can see it. Even when you two were cursing each other you two were waiting for a room. You are more than just sex with her. And the look you have on your face just talking about her. You're in love too."
Olivia sighed out a smile, "You don't know that" She saw Alex walking in the distance. "Excuse me." She walked over to Alex and Liz. "Hey what happened."
"Nothing, I have meds to help the pain." Alex walked over to Barba, who was sitting with all the bags.
"Nothing, are you sure? She said you are good to skate," Olivia asked her girlfriend knowing she watched Alex's ankle rolled.
Alex didn't want to think about what the doctor suggested, "Yes, I'm fine,"
"Alex." Olivia reached for Alex's hand.
Alex quickly pulled back her hand, "Drop it Olivia." She stood in front of Rafael. "Thank you for watching our things." she sat down in Olivia's seat.
Olivia looked at Liz who rolled her eyes at the situation.
The four eventually boarded the plane. Alex and Olivia had a quiet flight. They talked about the potential skaters Olivia might run into. Alex fell asleep on the flight on Olivia's shoulder. They arrived at the hotel and Rafa immediately left the four to meet up with Carisi.
Alex and Olivia were waiting for the elevator. They were holding hands, "Tomorrow is Pairs and Dancing so we will have the day all to ourselves." Alex smiled inching closer to Olivia.
"So we can sleep in, have a nice breakfast and relax at the pool."
"Sounds like a plan." She saw Jessica Russo coming towards them. She took a big step back.
"Good because you need some sun."
"Alexandra Cabot." A familiar voice walked behind them.
Alex quickly pulled back her hand, "Jessica!" Alex smiled as responded in a fake tone Olivia's never heard. She turned around and hugged her competition. "You looked amazing."
"Thank you. Not all of us have had a rebirth in our routines." Jessica looked at Olivia. "And who are you?"
"Hi, I'm…"
"This is my dear friend Olivia." Alex interrupted the introduction. Olivia was confused about Alex's actions.
"Just a friend?" She looked at Olivia and Alex, "Well Olivia if you want to have a time this weekend. Come find me." She smiled at Olivia while walking away.
Alex walked away, "God she's just horrible." Alex stepped on the elevator.
Alex and Olivia walked into their suite. Olivia placed their bags down in the middle of the room. Alex sat down on the bed. She smiled at Olivia who was checking out the room.
"We should take advantage of the hot tub in there." Olivia smiled at Alex who wasn't really given a reaction. Olivia walked closer to Alex. "Or I'll just go down stairs and gamble the night away, clearly you'd rather be alone."
"I never said I want to be alone," Alex looked at her girlfriend.
"Really you have been cold to me since the ice rink. And your friend really Alex." Olivia snapped at Alex.
Alex was trying to replay her jump in her head on what she did wrong. "You know what Olivia this weekend isn't about you. I'm sorry I didn't tell Jessica you are my friend."
Olivia was trying to figure out what was going on with Alex who isn't being forthcoming. "I know you are hurting and you won't tell me or Liz, but don't take it out on me."
Alex began digging her middle finger in her thumb, "I'm not taking it out on you. There is nothing wrong, you two need to stop making a simple sprain into something worse."
"Okay it's not. But do you want to explain what happened downstairs?"
Alex began to scratch her neck, "I… I'm not officially out in the sport, or to my sponsors. Jessica Russo, who always wants what I have, would love to have them."
"You're serious?" Olivia scoffed at not knowing what to think, "So all this pressure home to everyone knowing we are together, just to tell me that we are hiding in the closet for the world." Olivia didn't want to look at Alex. She began putting their things away.
"Olivia, I know this is a bad excuse, but this is my life." Alex stood up.
"This is my life too," Olivia turned to look at her girlfriend as they were sharing their first fight. "And I thought this was our life."
"Skating is my life," Alex quickly put in the facts. Olivia knew that when they met and before they became official. "and if you can't accept that then there…" Alex dug her nail deeper into her knowing she would regret the following words.
Olivia's gut dropped hear Alex's words. Alex was ready to throw her away, after one fight. She could also see Alex was stressing out about the littlest things. It was interesting to see Alex react faster with a rival than with her mother. "Alex," Olivia took both hands and to see the small amount of blood Alex created on her neck. "Look at me and breathe." Alex looked into Olivia's brown eyes. "I don't want to fight. I know skating is your life, a warning would have been nice." Olivia shifted one of Alex's hands into one of hers as she cupped her cheek with the now free hand. "If you think your ankle it's fine to skate on, all I can do is to support you. It's your call."
Alex needed to look into her brown eyes. She hasn't looked into them all day. "Olivia…"
"Breathe." She said softly, feeling okay even though they were fighting.
They stared into each other's eyes for a moment to get back to the wave link. Alex nodded at Olivia, "I'm sorry." She knows this weekend isn't Olivia's fault and needs to take out her stress on Olivia.
"Me too." Olivia pulled Alex in for a hug. "You're going to win this weekend. You just need to remember to breathe." Olivia kissed Alex's cheek.
I hope you enjoy thanks for all the Support
