They sat in the sterile waiting room, nervous and excited about what this appointment could bring. So much about their first pregnancy had not been normal and they both wanted to have a normal experience this time around. Tommy had taken the day off from the dojo and the university and they both knew it was just in case something had gone wrong. Neither of them knew if they would be able to stand something going wrong this time.

"Mrs. Oliver, come on back," the nurse said and Kimberly stood before quickly trying to find Tommy's hand. He had underestimated just how nervous she was about this appointment. He wasn't sure if this was how she had felt last time and he regretted how much time he missed last time. "How far along do you think you are?"

"Nine or so weeks," Kim said and her voice wavered. He glanced down at her and saw the tears she was struggling with.

"Have you had a miscarriage in the past?" the nurse asked and he felt her grip on his hand tighten. The silence stretched on and he gently squeezed her hand back. She didn't talk about it much, even with him, and he doubted she would easily talk about it with the doctors.

"Yes. Trauma induced," Tommy responded and the nurse looked up at him. "It was nearly four months in."

"I'm sorry to hear that, have you seen a grief counselor or anyone about it?" the nurse asked and Kimberly managed to nod. They had originally sought out therapists due to her miscarriage and had stayed for other reasons. "Is there anything that is bothering you?"

"The nausea is pretty horrific," Kim forced out and he wondered why she was fighting so hard to keep it together. Surely the nurses here had seen patients in all sorts of emotional states when it came to their first appointment. "I'm barely able to keep anything down and the only thing I've found that helps it- is him."

He snapped his eyes down to try to meet hers and she adamantly ignored him. He made her feel better? He had known that she preferred to sleep with her face buried against him now, but he had attributed that to her being more comfortable sleeping next to him. Not that she felt physically better when he was close.

"What about him helps most?" the nurse asked and he watched as Kimberly's face flushed red. He scanned back through his mind to think of what could possibly make her blush that much. "Do you need him to step out?"

"No. We just haven't talked about it. His smell helps a lot, sometimes just listening to his heartbeat," Kim said and the nurse handed her a paper gown. He hid his smirk as he knew how much she hated the garment.

"You can leave on your bra, the ultrasound tech will be in shortly and then the doctor should be in after that," the nurse stated before heading out of the room. He watched as her face got even redder and he pulled her into a quick hug.

"So that's why I find you with your face buried in my back some nights?" Tommy asked and he felt her nod against his chest. He smiled as he pulled away from her and watched as she switched out her clothes. This morning had not ended with him at the television station, but he considered that to just be luck. So far- they had not figured out what kept her from being sick in the morning, only what made it go away quickly. "We can find a better way for you to sleep."

"I'm not going to be able to sleep on my back much longer. I don't even remember rolling over to you most nights," Kim said and he marveled at how much her body had changed already. They had gotten reacquainted with each other's bodies over the last year and he found himself recognizing each small change that was happening now. "Yeah, I've got to get a couple new bras this weekend."

"Sorry, what?" Tommy said as he shook himself out of his revelry and noticed her walking towards him. The mischievous smile on her face let him know he had missed something she was going to make him pay for.

"New. Bras," Kim stated as his head was pulled into her breasts and he had to mentally remind himself where he was as she quickly released him and gave him a wink. If her goal was for him to be completely turned on by her, she had managed it.

"Let's pop you up on the table and take a look at what's cooking," the ultrasound tech announced as he and the doctor walked in. He looked over at the men and took in a breath. He had been warned there were a fair deal of men that would be seeing parts of his wife's body that he was not super happy about. On the other hand, he knew that neither of them wanted him to deliver a baby. "I forgot, you get a blanket."

He was amused by the ultrasound tech who helped Kimberly up on to the table and settled a blanket over her legs. His attention shifted as the tech continued to talk with Kimberly and he expected goop to be placed on her belly, but a wand came out and he gave it a suspicious look as Kim grabbed his hand. Apparently she had prepared a bit more than him and he found her eyes and saw the glint in them. As the ultrasound flickered on, he knew there was only one thing he was hoping to see, a heartbeat. They needed this baby to be healthy. He didn't know how they would deal with another disappointment in this area.

"Well, it looks like you've got a healthy thumper in there," Dr. Moracai said and he let out a sigh. He could see the heartbeat and felt Kimberly's hand tighten around his. "Oh, actually two thumpers."

"I'm sorry, did you say two?" Kimberly forced out and Dr. Moracai barely nodded. He had not found his voice, but he did manage to meet her eyes and smile. Twins. They were going to have twins.
