Six Weeks Later
"The fu…" Kimberly trailed off as she felt herself being teleported and she froze as she landed in the dark room. "Tommy!"
She was met with silence and she gulped. Her hands settled against her, obviously pregnant, belly and she tried to calm herself. This was not the first time this had happened in her lifetime. She would be okay, everything would be fine. She just needed to find him.
"Tommy!" Kimberly yelled again as she heard someone move next to her and the fear gripped her. Where was she? And where was her husband?
"Who are you?" a voice asked right next to her ear and she screamed. She did not recognize the voice and she could not see what it had emanated from.
"Tom-my," Kimberly came out as a strangled sob and she sunk to the floor. She felt a presence land next to her and was shocked when the lights suddenly came on and she was scooped tight against a familiar chest.
"Jesus…what happened?" Tommy muttered as she managed to lift her head from his chest and saw the startled college students staring at them. They were vaguely familiar, but she didn't know why. "Cam- what happened to her? Why is she here?"
"We didn't do anything. She just showed up and started yelling for you," Cameron replied and she felt the ground start to shake under them. As the siren blared, she met Tommy's eyes. The Command Center had pulled her out of harm's way, even if it had terrified the both of them.
"Dr. O…" Julia started and she saw the glare come off Tommy.
"Go- do your job," Tommy barked and she met his gaze. "I didn't know that it would do this…if I had known…"
"Where are we?" Kimberly whispered as she wiped her eyes and nestled in closer to him. She found herself pressing her head against his chest and closing her eyes as she listened to his heart beat. She desperately wanted to feel safe and this was the only place that she felt safe.
"Under the dojo. The Command Center surprised me with…well…a mini Command Center a few weeks back. The stairs over there pop up in the storage closet," Tommy stated and she felt herself nod. After their session with Dr. Schutlely, she had realized that losing Tommy was her biggest fear. Removing him from her life was something she could live with. Having him taken away? It terrified her. She knew she could not survive it.
They had talked a lot about her fear since then and she had seen Tommy compartmentalize so much. She knew that things were happening in the Power Ranger world. She knew that things were changing, but when she had asked him to keep her in the dark, he had shut it away from her completely. Now, it seemed to be crashing into her life again. However, she could feel how grateful Tommy was that they were being kept safe. That the Command Center had decided to move her to safety before him.
"Are you okay?" Tommy whispered and she realized how long she must have been silent. "Kim…"
"Mostly terrified, but also glad that we're safe. I was in the middle of getting ready for the day, so…" Kim trailed off and she welcomed his smile and found herself laughing as her make up landed behind him with a crash. "Thank you."
"If I had known the Command Center would do something like this- I would have warned you. When you asked that I keep this away…" Tommy trailed off as she cut off the rest of his sentence with a kiss. She felt the relief flood him and he responded to her kiss with a ferocity that surprised her. She was forced back to reality as the ground shook again.
"Go, give advice. I'll find a spot to get ready," Kim stated and she watched him jog off towards the monitors. He quickly put on a set of headphones and started talking the rangers through what he was seeing. She saw a door off to the side and when she stepped through it, she was surprised to find a fully functioning bathroom. The Command Center was definitely pulling out all the stops with her at the moment. "Thanks for keeping us safe."
A warm breeze blew past her and she smiled. If she had learned anything- that was just the Command Center's way of saying 'you're welcome'.
