Summer was halfway over, and Shaggy was having the time of his life. He got a dog and made 3 new friends within a few weeks and even better, none of them cared about his habit of being nude. In fact, Shaggy's confidence had increased to the point where he was walking around everywhere naked, and nothing ever happened. His parents ultimately gave up trying to restrict Shaggy's habit, but they did tell him that while it was okay to do it in their neighborhood, he might get in trouble if he did it anywhere else.

Today, Shaggy was going to have a get-together with Fred, Daphne, and Velma and he offered to buy the snacks. He went to the local supermarket by himself (Scooby had to stay outside because the store didn't allow animals inside), got a basket, and grabbed some snacks. The other customers in the store were shocked to see a naked boy enter but none of them said anything and avoided eye contact with Shaggy.

When Shaggy got everything he needed, he went to the front counter to pay for the items. The cashier, who looked like he'd seen everything, had a bored look on his face and rang up Shaggy's items.

"So, kid, what's with the birthday suit?" asked the cashier.

"I don't know. It's fun to walk around naked, I guess." said Shaggy.

"Alright. You do you. The total is $19.69." said the cashier.

Shaggy pulled $20 out of his backpack (which he wore whenever he needed to hold on to things), gave it to the cashier, who then rang him up and gave him his change and bagged his items.

"Have a good day." Shaggy said to the cashier before leaving.

"You too, weird little dude." said the cashier.

Once Shaggy was out of the store, he walked with Scooby towards Daphne's house.

"You look really excited, Shaggy." said Scooby.

"I am. I get to hang out with my new friends and walk around wearing nothing. What's better than that?" Shaggy responded.

A few minutes of walking later, Shaggy and Scooby arrived at Daphne's house, and they entered Daphne's living room, where everyone else was waiting.

"Shaggy! You got the snacks?" asked Daphne.

"Yep. They're right here." Shaggy said before showing off his bags of snacks.

"Awesome. Today's going to be great. I can feel it." said Fred.

The four friends and Scooby just sat down, talked, and ate snacks together for about an hour. Until Velma brought up something that caught everyone off guard.

"Guys, have you heard about a ghost sighting near here?" asked Velma.

"Ghost sighting?" asked Shaggy.

"According to multiple eyewitnesses, a ghost is occupying the Rigby House and disturbing people in the neighborhood." said Velma.

Both Shaggy and Scooby were spooked by the information, while Fred and Daphne were more skeptical.

"Velma, come on, a ghost? Who honestly believes in ghosts and haunted houses?" asked Fred.

"Apparently, quite a few people according to my research." said Velma.

"So, why are you telling us this? You want to investigate the ghost?" asked Daphne.

"Yes. I want to do exactly that." said Velma.

"What?! Why? Why would you want to go towards the danger? That ghost could be terrifying." said Shaggy.

"Shaggy, you're not afraid of walking around naked, but you're afraid of the mere reference of a ghost?" said Velma.

"Look, ghosts, monsters, and stuff like that creep me out, so I'd rather not think about it." said Shaggy.

"But getting back to the investigating, who wants to join me?" asked Velma.

"Sure, I'll do it." said Fred.

"Why not? It could be fun." said Daphne.

Shaggy looked at Scooby with worry in his eyes before saying, "I might as well come too. Hopefully, nothing super scary happens."

"Great. Let's go." Velma said before she and the gang left Daphne's house and went straight to the Rigby House.

When they got there, they agreed to split up, so they could cover more ground. Velma went with Fred and Daphne, while Shaggy stayed with Scooby. As Shaggy and Scooby slowly went through the house, the vibe became increasingly unsettling for the both of them.

"Shaggy, I don't like this." said Scooby.

"Me neither, bud. This place gives me the creeps." said Shaggy.

As they were walking, Shaggy and Scooby looked at all the various pieces of media around them. It was all a bunch of old, vintage shows like The Jetsons, The Flintstones, and Yogi Bear.

"Geez, this Rigby guy must be pretty old to have all of these lying around." said Shaggy.

They didn't know it yet, but the infamous ghost was right behind them. Scooby sensed something was behind them and turned around, only to freeze up in terror.

Shaggy noticed this and said, "Scoob, what's the matter?" before turning around and having the exact same reaction as Scooby.

The ghost then went for Shaggy and lifted him up in the air and said, "You will leave this place! Or you will suffer the consequences!"

Shaggy had limited options in his current position but there was one thing he could do. It was gross and he didn't like it at all, but desperate times called for desperate measures. He peed on the ghost, who then let him go and extremely grossed out. In that moment, Shaggy was thankful he drank a ton of soda at Daphne's house. And if that wasn't enough, Scooby then bit the ghost's ankle, causing him to scream in pain.

"Don't ever hurt Shaggy!" Scooby said after he left go of the ghost's ankle.

After all that, Shaggy and Scooby made a run for it. They quickly caught up to Fred, Daphne, and Velma, but unfortunately, the ghost was chasing after them.

They were about to run but Velma noticed something about the ghost. It was attached to a wire that was connected to the ceiling. With this new info, she came up with a plan.

"Okay, everyone run upstairs!" said Velma and everyone followed her.

Once upstairs, Velma told the gang about the wire and Fred quickly grabbed an antique sword that was nearby. The 'ghost' then 'floated' right where the gang was and tried to scare them as hard as he could. But they were having none of it, as Fred threw the sword at the wire holding the 'ghost', which he successfully cut and the 'ghost' fell right down to the ground, face first.

The gang then went downstairs to see the 'ghost' and if he was still alive. When Daphne touched its' face, she could tell something was not right. It felt less like skin and more like a fake mask. She tugged on its' face, until it slid right off, revealing that the 'ghost' wasn't a ghost at all. Instead, it was…

"Mr. Rigby?!" the gang said all at once.

In a shocking twist, it was Mr. Rigby, the man who owned the house, who was terrifying the neighborhood. And in an even more surprising twist, Shaggy and Scooby found a secret room that contained a bunch of stolen electronics. They just unintentionally exposed a criminal and they thought they were just dealing with a grumpy old man.

The police came to the house shortly afterwards and arrested Mr. Rigby for his crimes. But before he could get in the police car, he said, "And I would've gotten away with this, if it weren't for you meddling kids and your weird, talking dog!", before being shoved into the car.

"Well, look at that, we solved a mystery and a crime in the same night." said Velma.

"Yeah, and it was actually kind of fun. Scary but fun." said Shaggy.

"We did good for a couple of kids. Maybe we should do this again." said Daphne.

"Absolutely." said Fred.

"Definitely." said Velma.

"Sure. What do you say Scooby?" said Shaggy.

"I'm in." said Scooby.

"Great! We could be the best mystery solvers this city has ever seen." said Velma.

"Yeah!" the gang said at once. And that's how over the course of a summer, Shaggy went from a lonely kid to an integral member of Mystery Inc.

Hope you enjoyed the story. Once again, it was weird writing this, as I still haven't seen Scoob! (and I have no desire to), but it was fun. This chapter was directly based on the scene in the movie where Mystery Inc. truly forms, with some changes here and there. I also threw in some fanservice by referencing other Hanna-Barbara properties. I MIGHT make a sequel to this, but it won't be for a while. Additionally, I'm working on other stories, new and old, so stay tuned for more updates. Other than that, I hope you all have a wonderful day. Bye for now and stay safe.
