He found the seraph blade on the sidewalk. It was deactivated. Then he heard a sound. A quiet whining from one of the house entrances. Quickly, he made his way over to the house and found the woman on the steps. She was holding her leg. When he came closer, he could see blood coming out of a bite from her upper leg. He kneeled in front of her, but she tried to move away.
"Stay put. You are only making it worse.", he commanded, and she must have heard the urgency in his words because she finally stopped running from him. He looked at the wound. Nothing too bad. Probably gone when applying an Iratze.
"Did you kill the demon by yourself?", he asked and raised his eyebrows in surprise when she nodded.
"Not the typical mundane?", she offered, and he nodded.
"Have I been wrong? Are you a shadowhunter?", he asked and got out his stele from his back pocket. Suddenly she was all of fear again. She tried to get as far away as possible. He raised his hands ins defeat.
"Ok, ok... so no shadowhunter. But you know what this can do to mundanes, right?"
She nodded. Her eyes still focused on the stele. Her breathing became heavy and she closed her eyes for a moment.
"Let me help you. I am not using this. Promised."
She just nodded. She must really be in pain. After being so furious before she became now very still. He got near her again and noticed sweat building on her forehead. But even with that, she was holding up pretty well. He'd seen mundanes dying on a Ravener sting in this time. He ripped out some fabric of his shirt and tied it around her leg to stop more poison flowing through her system.
"What's your name?", he asked. He wanted to keep her awake.
"Sue...", she mumbled weakly.
"That's quite a nice name, love. I am Jace and don't worry. I will bring you to someone, who can help you."
She jolted awake by the mention of his name and looked at him again.
"Jace Wayland?", she said full of surprise.
"Oh, am I this popular in the mundane world?", he chuckled lightly. But her knowing of his full name was creeping him out a bit.
"Jace Wayland...", she mumbled absently and then looked at him again. Slowly she took his hand and squeezed it weakly. "Do not take me to the institute. Please. Whatever happens, please just take me to this address."
Slowly, because of the pain, she got a piece of paper out of the pocket of her coat and handed it to him. He looked at it and recognized the address.
"Where do you know Magnus from?"
"He's my friend. I know he will help me. I- If you want to help me... be quick. I think it's getting worse..."
She moaned quietly and held her leg. Jace decided once again in his life to follow his gut and not the rules. He would take her to Magnus.
He left her with a promise to come back in a minute and got his motorbike from three blocks down. It really wasn't a minute later he arrived back at the house entrance. She had fallen unconscious, but when he lifted her up in his arms, she came back.
„Please, Jace...", she began with her voice becoming weaker. „Just take me to Magnus'. He can help me. Not to the institute – please."
Her voice was so full of fear that he answered without hesitation.
„Of course. I promise."
She sighed and relaxed in his arms. The next moment she was unconscious again. Jace held her tight to his chest and kicked the motorcycle he luckily had with him back to live. He drove as reckless as he dared, to get her the fastest to Magnus' Bane – supreme warlock of Brooklyn and his brother-in-law.
