"I thought there is no way getting into Idris, but with a portal by the clave.", Sue wondered as they stood inside the small backyard of Sue's rental complex. She had assured the others that no one is ever coming or even looking here.

"That's just the case, if you don't have your own warlock at hand.", Jace stated and took the backpack from Alec.

"I knew you were kind of cool, but that cool?", Sue said with a winning smile to Magnus. She took her own small backpack and readied herself for whatever was coming next. She had only used a portal once and that was with Magnus all these years ago.

A few weeks had passed since Jace suggested the plan to go to the surroundings of Idris. Sue had to call in sick with her work at a bookstore for a few days because her wound only healed quite slow. Jace kept her company almost the whole day, although she stayed at Magnus' and Alec's place. After she felt better, she went back to her place, but – as promised – Alec and Jace took turns to keep an eye on her. Nevertheless, it was mostly Jace who sat in the comfy reading chair in the children's books department reading Alice's wonderland during her working hours. Sometimes he would fall asleep. When this happened, Sue would feel bad because she knew he did this between his shifts as a shadowhunter. Every time he woke up, he would find a cup of tea or some sweets on the table in front of him. Jace smiled to himself thinking about these occasions.

"Ok, boys and girls, get ready.", Magnus said and clapped his hands as blue sparkles emerged from them. Sue's heart began to race. With a whirling gesture of his hands, Magnus created a glimmering portal just beside the dumpsters. Behind the portal you could faintly see some green hills and blue sky. She remembered those from her earliest memories. Jace took a step to the portal, his gaze locked with Magnus', who nodded. Then he took Sue's hand and just before stepping through, squeezed it tightly.

"See you soon.", he managed to say to his brother and Magnus, before a cold shiver ran through their skin and then they only felt the light morning sun of the blue sky of Idris.

Idris was even more breath-taking than Sue remembered. The lush green grass fields and the mountains in the far distance made her heart go lighter and her sorrows weaker. She turned around and took a deep breath. Unbelievingly, she felt home.

"It's beautiful, isn't it? Every time I visit, I tell myself, I need to visit more often.", she heard Jace say and looked at him. His tall figure suited the surroundings. He belonged here. He smiled at her and pointed to a landmark just behind her.

"I think we should go this way first. It was a mostly unpopulated area in the past and today no one is living there. But there are a few old houses we could check out."

She nodded – still a little dazed of the landscape and Jace. He started to go to the pointed direction, and she followed him. She was relieved that he walked slower, because she was still a little weak. Without doubt he knew that, and this was the reason he did not use his full power. Jace was one of those persons, who pays attention to all of the little details in his surroundings. That made him a good shadowhunter and that was why he could foresee many attacks – demonic or human.

They walked silently next to each other. Sue was at ease with that. With Jace it was just simple not to talk. She didn't feel pressured as with almost everybody else. She didn't need to explain herself because he read in her what was necessary. As they walked, the scenery didn't change much. And she didn't recognize anything. The green hills became wider and the sun got higher to the point that it was almost in zenith. Sue felt more and more exhausted but didn't want to say anything. She kept looking for a house in the distance, for a familiar patch of land, but there was only grove after grove and lake after lake.

Suddenly Sue heard a rustling sound behind her. She turned to the bushes at the side of the grove they walked past. She looked at Jace in alarm, but he had already turned around and mumbled Mutuol as he drew his seraph blade from his belt. Sue fumbled at her own belt, but Jace laid his free hand on hers. A high-pitched squeak was heard from the bushes and a huge wild boar emerged a second after that. Jace lifted his blade, ready to strike, but Sue squeezed his hand tightly. She shook her head. The boar didn't come any closer but was visibly distressed.

"Let's just leave.", she whispered and tucked at his hand. Slowly they walked backwards and tried to make as little sound as possible. They were a good 50 meters away when three other, tiny creatures appeared. Sue started to smile and looked at Jace. He seemed surprised, but started to smile at her, when he saw her face. Three little babies who would have no mommy if Jace had stroked. She felt relieved. The settling down situation was abruptly disturbed by a hissing sound and a loud squeaking. They both looked back and saw the mother boar running towards them – her babies right behind her. Jace was faster than imaginable, but to Sue's surprise, he did not fight, but turned again and pulled hard on her hand to get moving.

"RUN!", he shouted, and pulled her behind him. Sue would not have imagined to ever run that fast. The road flew by as they ran into the woods.
"When I tell you to jump, you jump. Got it?", he said quickly.

"Yes!", she said out of breath. Trees were now left and right. Jace managed to dodge every single one in this speed. Sue was not sure how her feet managed to keep up with the pull of Jace's hand.

"JUMP!"

And she did out of pure instinct. The next thing she noticed was Jace right beside her on a large tree branch. He looked down and she followed suit. That had been a high jump. The wild boar mommy had just been meters behind them. She paced under the tree like a predator. "Funny", Sue thought, but then she saw it. The boar had red glowing eyes – possessed eyes.

"Jace…", she whispered frantically. He laid an arm around her shoulders. She knew he would notice, that she shivered.

"I know. It's possessed. The little ones as well. I have seen that before, but never this vicious."

The boar stood still for a short moment. Then another bloodcurdling squeak and a considerable blow hit the tree. Sue lost her balance for a moment, but Jace held her tight.

"I don't know who we pissed off, but there is someone…", he mumbled and looked like he was thinking hard.

"I will get down and try to lure her away. You wait here.", he said after two more blows to the tree. He shifted away from her to get a better stance.

"No, wait. Jace!", she said, but in this moment, another blow hit the tree and she lost her balance for good this time. The terrible sensation of losing her footing washed over her as she tumbled down to the direction of the daemon boar. Later she couldn't recall what exactly had happened, but she landed on her feet and next thing she knew, she was in a rush of running. Just as she cheered in her head for being very smooth, her left foot got caught in a root and she tumbled down hard. Her left foot sent a sharp pain through her whole leg. Fuck. That hadn't been necessary but again a typical thing that would happen to her. Desperately she looked behind her and to her despair the boar came up right after her. Numbly she fumbled for her seraph blade, but she knew, she would not be fast enough, and the name could not be spoken fast enough. Ronobel Ronobel Ronobel …she thought and to her surprise the blade shimmered in her trembling hand. The boar squeaked as in pain and wanted to strike, but in the next moment, it halted and collapsed dead on the ground - another shimmering blade stuck in its head and Jace hovering above it. Immediately after the boar was dead, Jace was next to Sue. His warm hands touched her shoulders.

"Are you ok? Did it hurt you?" His voice sounded genuinely worried. She couldn't say anything at first. She felt lightheaded when his hands pulled her up and his gaze brushed her face to look for anything alarming.

"No, it's ok, I think –", she started, but a loud "Fuck" came out of her mouth, when she tried to step back from his presence. Her foot. It hurt really bad. But not only the pain made her dizzy. His hands never left her body. He caressed her shoulders and then bent down to look at her foot. He touched her food lightly and again a piercing pain rattled through it. She inhaled sharply.

"It's seems you've broken or at least bruised your ankle.", he stated and sighed when he was getting back up.

"We need to find shelter and take care of this the mortal way.", he smirked. His smirk vanished, when he looked at her face.

"I am sorry. There was no other way. It would have killed you."

In this moment Sue realized that a creature was dead now. She looked away so he wouldn't see her tears. He stepped back immediately. Her gaze got back to the corpse and she saw three little bodies beside it.

"They fell dead the moment the daemon left them."

"Does this happen every time a demon leaves a body? I never learnt about that, when-", she halted and didn't finish the sentence. Jace ignored it kindly.

"If the body is too weak, yes. And they were only babies.", he answered. They stood silently a moment. Sue couldn't look away from the dead animals. This wasn't how she imagined her first hours back in Idris. Jace had looked over her shoulder out of the forest. His features relaxed a little. He looked back into her face.

"I have good news. There is a house over there. I think we can find shelter and take care of your foot there."
