I know I already said this, but I just want to be super clear: I am using mostly the manga for reference.

The major differences between the anime and manga start in Episode 15/Chapter 13. If you have only seen the anime, please note that this means I will be disregarding pretty much everything that happens after Episode 17 (and plenty of stuff that happens between Episodes 15 and 17 too...)

Last Time:

He had felt the energy when she attacked the moth. It almost burned. Like holy water.

He then remembered the first encounter they had.

The first time they shook hands.

She said something about static shock back then.

But what if?

Magic and Exorcism

Chapter 16: Out of the woods, into the fire

Harajuku, Tokyo:

Amanda was sipping her 2nd cup of espresso when Clara jumped, nearly making her spill the contents on the cup.

"What's wrong?" Erica asked

"Bianca..." Clara murmured, frowning deeply, "I felt her magic!"

Amanda quickly downed the rest of her espresso and rose to her feet, a determined look now present on her face.

"No." Erica intervened, "We need to let Professor Avalon know first."

"But she could be in danger!"

"Exactly why we need to talk to him." Clara argued, "If the situation is what he says it is, we'll need him with us."

"Fine." Amanda grumbled and fished her phone out of her pocket, "I'll call him."

The two watched as the brunette started pacing while waiting for Avalon to answer.

Clara went back into her meditation.

"Can you see anything about her surroundings?" Erica asked, "Is she safe?"

"There's a dark energy around her." Clara frowned, "I think she's fighting something."

"Shit."

True Cross Academy - Lowest Level Forested Zone:

There was a genuine sigh of relief among the group and they reached the campsite with the lantern still passive, but burning.

Bianca was shocked to find Izumo and Takara back as well, each with a burning lantern of their own. Sugoro reflected her surprise as he started shouting, "The heck?! Y'all are back before us?!"

"I just made my familiars do it." Kamiki shrugged, "Takara was even quicker though."

Takara's bunny puppet then scoffed and insulted them in a condescending tone that made Bianca want to rip the thing off the smug ventriloquist's hand and shove it down his throat.

Her thoughts were interrupted by Shiemi gasping in pain and grabbing her neck. Both her and Rin quickly checked up on the small girl, however Rin immediately seemed to shrivel up and excuse himself.

"It hurts..." Shiemi grumbled softly.

"Do you think you sprained it?" Bianca asked softly.

Shiemi took in a sharp breath as she tried to look up "P...probably..."

"Wait a second..." Shura squinted at them, "If all of you are back...who fired the flare then?"

Bianca now frowned, recalling the flare being shot a few hours ago.

"Bianca-chan..." Shiemi asked, her voice weak, "Did you...and Rin...have a fight?"

Bianca frowned and shook her head, but she had a vague idea why he seemed upset. She dreaded it, but knew she'd have to confront him about his heritage before it was too late.

Before she could dwell on the thought much longer, there was a loud shout from the forest. A few moments later, she felt a familiar dark presence as the green haired demon from the park appeared with a large hobgoblin.

"Oi, don't just stand there doing nothing!" Shura shouted at the group as she drew her sword. She then smirked at the demon, "I've been waiting for ya..."

The demon ordered the hobgoblin to attack as Shura summoned her familiar with a whistle.

Izumo nearly jumped out of her skin as the large snake familiar rose from within the campfire right next to her. It started glowing along with the runes on the magic circle they had drawn earlier that day, forming a barrier that threw the demon and the hobgoblin back into the surrounding forest with overwhelming force.

There were a few moments of silence as the group tried to process the events that had just occurred.

Suguro was the first to speak, "Was that a total barrier?!"

"Yeah." Shura nodded, "It's made to protect everyone inside it, and it will repel nearly anything. We're safe for the time being."

"Who the heck was that guy even?" Izumo asked in panic.

"Sensei, is this also part of the training?" Miwa asked.

Shura took a deep breath and started tying her hair, "Training's over, kids. We need to prepare for Amaimon's attacks."

"A..Amaimon?!" Izumo screeched, "As in one of the Eight Princes of Hell?! The King of Earth?!"

"Yeah." Shura nodded as she walked to the nearest tent and picked up a container from a supply chest. "He's a big shot, and no match for any of ya. I'll soak you guys in concentrated holy water to help with the defence, so come here."

After everyone gathered around Shura, she started soaking them with holy water one by one.

Bianca was expecting the cold of the water, but not for the feeling of dread and despair that came over her as the cold water seeped into her clothes.

She swallowed hard.

This wasn't supposed to happen...right?

She was supposed to feel her light magic being boosted, right?

The sound of Suguro shouting something snapped her out of her panicked train of thought. Looking up, she noticed that he was pointing at Rin.

Shura scratched the back of her neck, "He's...uh...allergic to holy water."

Bianca almost choked on her own breath as Suguro raved over the half assed explanation. She looked over to Rin, and he quickly avoided her gaze once again.

Almost as if he was trying to avoid a conversation altogether, he quickly asked, "Hey, where's Yukio?"

Shura huffed, "He was in the way, so I sent him off."

Bianca frowned, feeling even more uneasy now. She noted some of her classmates frantically trying to call the emergency numbers and other teachers, but for some reason they weren't getting through.

Something was up, that much she knew. After all, Mephisto had instantly noticed the day she ended up transported to this very forest, so there was no way a high class demon such as Amaimon could just waltz in uninvited.

She sighed heavily and decided to seek Rin out. He needed to know that his secret was safe with her.

She spotted him with Shura, who was waving something thin and long, wrapped in red cloth in the boy's face while laughing. Bianca realised that it was the sword Shura had previously confiscated.

She took a deep breath and walked forward, Rin going quiet as he noticed her coming closer.

He attempted to smile, but it didn't reach his eyes.

"We need to talk, Rin." she stated simply as she reached them.

"S-Sure..." he said, still smiling awkwardly. "What's up?"

"Are you scared of my powers?" she asked, "You've been acting weird since I attacked the moth demon."

He broke eye contact, opting to stare at the ground.

"I don't care about your heritage, Rin." she reassured, "You've already proven you're not like Satan at all."

"You…" he nearly choked and he looked up again, carefully studying the emotion in her eyes, "You know?"

"About who your father is and your flames?" she nodded, "Yeah, I know everything."

Rin released a shaky breath as he finally relaxed.

"How did you find out?"

"I knew from the start." she murmured.

"What?" his eyes grew wide. "How?"

"It's a long story, but I'm not supposed to even be here. I arrived in this world by accident and stuck here for the time being." she explained, "Mephisto offered me a place to stay while I search for a way home...on condition that I do something for him."

"What did he want you to do?"

"Watch over you." she explained, "He figured my abilities could help if you ever lost control of your flames."

"Oh."

She noticed he seemed slightly dejected once again, so she gave him a soft smile. "I admit that I was scared of the idea of looking after Satan's offspring at first, but then I got to know you, and learned what kind of person you really are."

Rin finally relaxed completely, now smiling softly. Bianca was also smiling, relieved that she was able to reassure him that his secret was still safe.

"Moriyama-san, where are you going?"

The sound of Renzo calling out made her instinctively look up to search for the blonde, and to her horror she found Shiemi slowly stumbling out of the campsite.

"Oi, oi, oi!" Shura yelled out as she ran after the girl, "Someone stop her!"

Before anyone could reach Shiemi, she stepped out of the magic circle and Amaimon appeared once more, blocking off any chance of retrieving her safely.

"What did you do to her?!" Shura barked at the green haired demon king.

"I had a Chuchi lay eggs in her." Amaimon answered simply. "It took a while for them to connect to her nervous system, but she'll now obey all of my commands."

Bianca felt fury build up in her as the demon king bounded away with Shiemi in his arms.

Rin seemingly had similar murderous thoughts as he ran after them, screaming obscenities. He didn't get far, however, as the oversized hobgoblin from before jumped into view and cut him off.

Shura wasted no time attacking it with a slash of her sword. As it jumped back, Shura threw Rin's sword at him, "Go on ahead! I'll take care of this one!"

The young half-demon nodded as he ran after Amaimon.

Bianca wanted to follow, but Shura stopped her. "Even if you're from that place, you're no match for him."

Just as she tried to argue, a loud explosion was heard, followed by trees and forest debris thrown across the forest.

Bianca bit the inside of her cheek, knowing Shura was right.

As much as she wanted to help her friends, there was nothing she could do but let Rin handle this.
