~Sabrina~
Day Five:
A few minutes later…
I dug through my suitcase. I had no idea what to wear. How nice was the restaurant? Did I need to wear a dress? How much makeup should I put on? I wanted to bang my head into the wall. I could ask Puck, but he'd laugh at me if it was just a little restaurant on the corner, and I was too dressed up.
"Daphne!" I called.
"Yes?" Her voice echoed down the hallway, she must have been in the bathroom.
"Come here!" I said.
I heard the bathroom door shut, and a few seconds later, she was standing in the doorway, panting.
"I'm going out to dinner with Puck tonight," I told her, lowering my voice.
"No way!" She said, grinning. "Is it a date?"
This is exactly why I hadn't told her earlier.
"Yeah, I mean no. I mean I don't know." I said, exasperated.
Was it a date? I didn't want to tell her it was if we were just going to dinner as friends.
"Okay… well, what do you need?" She asked.
"You need to go find out what Puck's wearing," I told her, hoping she'd agree.
"He's wearing khakis and a dress shirt. I mean, I'll go see…"
I narrowed my eyes. Had he already told her?
"Did you already know?" I asked.
"No…" She said slowly. "I'll go see what he's wearing."
Before she could leave, I grabbed her wrist and pulled her down to the floor.
"I don't know have anything nice, as his outfit." I groaned. "Where'd he get khakis?"
She smiled and pulled a long wand out of her waistband. The fairy godmother wand. I braced myself as she spun it three times. I grimaced as the star came down on my head.
"Wow…" Daphne breathed.
"Wow…" I repeated as I stared at myself in the mirror.
I looked pretty. I was wearing a white romper, that covered the blisters on my back, that had begun to scab over. The material was light, but it felt soft and good on my skin. I smiled at the reflection.
"Okay, makeup time!" Daphne said, gleefully.
I made my way over to my suitcase and grabbed the pink bag that contained all of my makeup. I dumped it on the floor and got to work. I grabbed the tube of concealer and smeared it all over my face, hoping it would cover the red sunspots. Next, I put on a layer of mascara.
"Daph, can you plug in the curling iron? It's in the bathroom." I said to my sister, who was watching me intently.
"Yes sir!" She saluted me and leaped out the door.
I laughed to myself. She was truly one of a kind.
"Done!" She panted, as she tumbled back into the room, seconds later.
"That was quick."
"I know, I'm just so excited! Puck and Sabrina, together again!" Daphne giggled.
"We're not together. Don't say that." I scolded.
I wondered if we'd ever been together again. We lived close enough, that if we made an effort to come to see each other, it could work. But did he care enough to make an effort? When we'd first moved, Daph and I came up to Grannys almost every weekend. We missed everybody too much to stay away. But slowly, as we'd all gotten older, the fun of it had withered away. And little by little, the weekly trips turned into monthly trips, and the monthly trips had shrunk down to an annual trip for Thanksgiving, or whatever other holiday was near. It was just harder in high school to make time to go see Puck. But of course, when I saw him, it was like nothing changed, and I had never left. The kisses, the laughs, the pranks, the inside jokes, all came flooding back every time I stepped foot in Granny Relda's little yellow house.
"Yet, not together yet." She corrected me.
I rolled my eyes at her. She was relentless.
"Oh, Sabrina!" She gasped. "What if he asks you out tonight?"
She flopped backward onto the floor. I rolled my eyes again.
"That would be so romantic. Don't you think?" Daphne asked.
I wanted to tell her that I didn't even know if I wanted to be with him, but after the other night, I knew that sound traveled in this house.
"Maybe," I nodded, putting my products back into the makeup bag.
"Okay," I announced.
"We're trusting you to stay home, so I don't want any funny business." Puck said, sternly to Red, Daphne, and Pinocchio, who were all sitting on the couch.
"Puck, I thought you were the king of funny business…" Daphne said.
"I'm taking a break for the night." He explained.
"Ooh," Daphne wiggled her eyebrows. "A break for Sabrina."
Puck shook his head and laughed. I was impressed by how mature he was acting. Maybe the magical clothes he had on were messing with his head. I wondered if they were messing with my head too. Mainly, because I was trusting Red, Pinocchio, and Daphne to stay home alone for a few hours, but also because I thought he looked attractive.
"No letting strangers in, don't leave the house, lock the doors, call nine-one-one if there's an emergency, and only call us if someone dies. Sounds good?" Puck asked.
The three of them nodded. It sounded like he had gotten the rules directly off of a parenting website. I glanced at his hand and had to do my best to hold back my laughter when I saw the rules he had just recited sloppily jotted on his palm.
"We'll be back at nine," I said to them.
Puck took my hand and we turned to start walking towards the door.
"One thing before you guys go." I heard Daphne call.
"Yes?" I turned back to look at her.
"Remember to use protection." She smiled, innocently.
"What are you gonna get?" Puck asked me, as he drank his lemonade.
"I don't know yet, do you know what you're getting?" I answered, taking a sip of my own lemonade.
"Already decided in the car, I'm getting a spicy tuna roll." He grinned.
I searched the menu again. Everything looked so good.
"I think I'll order the shrimp tempura roll," I said.
"Tem-purr-uh," Puck corrected me. "Not tem-pure-yah."
"No, it's pronounced tem-pure-yah." I frowned.
"No, it isn't."
"Yes, it is."
"Fine, but only for you. Tem-pure-yah."
We both started laughing, earning a few dirty looks from the other tables. But that just made us laugh harder.
"Miss, Mister? Would you like to order an appetizer before dinner?" A waitress asked us.
I looked over at Puck, who was looking at me.
"Sure," I said. "We'll have two orders of seaweed salad."
"And two orders of miso soup." Puck added.
The lady nodded and scribbled the requests onto her notepad.
"We'll have those out as soon as possible."
Puck brushed his hand against my thigh under the table.
"Can't keep your hands off me, can you?" I laughed.
"I'm trying my best."
I glanced out the window that sat beside us. There was a seagull sitting on a palm tree, a few yards away from the restaurant. I could hear it squawking obnoxiously. It reminded me of my sister.
"I wonder what Daphne and they are doing," I said.
"I don't know what Daph's doing, but Pinocchio's probably balls deep in Red right now."
"Puck, he's twelve." My mouth dropped open.
"I'm kidding." He said, looking away.
I gave him a look.
"Kind of." The boy muttered.
I shook my head, laughing at his dumb joke.
"Did you ever find out what was going on between them?" Puck asked, turning back so he was facing me.
"Yeah, I thought you were listening to that night, how'd you not hear?"
Puck shifted uncomfortably in his seat, and I immediately regretted my words. He was silent for a few moments.
"I heard some of it…" He trailed off. "I woke up when I heard my name, but I didn't hear anything before it."
"Oh," I nodded. "Will you pretend this conversation didn't just happen if I tell you what exactly is going on?"
"Yeah," He grinned.
"I think Red told me this happened back in March, but it might've been the end of February." I started. "She said it had been raining all week and Granny hadn't let any of you guys out of the house in days-"
"Ohh, I remember that. I was in trouble for dying the toilet water green. The toilet's still kinda stained." Puck admitted.
"Okay…" I giggled. "Anyways, I guess the rain stopped and she made you three go outside."
"And then I flew off to find the biggest mud puddles."
"Of course you did." I rolled my eyes. "But then they were walking in the forest, and I guess he kissed her."
"Hmm…" Puck crossed his arms. "I think our first kiss was better."
"Yeah, the screaming monkeys really added to the experience."
"They were apes."
"Sorry, I meant the screaming apes really added to the experience."
Puck grinned. I felt a tap on my back and turned around, to find a small girl holding a tray of food. I spread my napkin across my lap as she set the bowls and plates in front of Puck and I.
"This is amazing!" Puck exclaimed, with a mouth full of seaweed salad.
"That's why I ordered it for you, bug-brain," I mumbled as I swallowed a warm spoonful of miso soup.
"How's the soup?" He asked, ignoring my insult.
"It's hot," I complained, blowing on my spoon.
Immediately, Puck fished his hand into his glass of lemonade and grabbed a couple of ice cubes. He plopped the ice into my bowl, sending soup splashing across the table.
"Oops," He laughed, sheepishly.
"I cannot deal with you." I giggled.
If Puck had pulled something as stupid as that any other time, naturally, I would have blown up at him. But, I was in such a good mood, I didn't care about the hot soup dripping down my leg.
Moments later, another waitress showed up at our table. She eyed the soup droplets but said nothing. I did everything I could not to burst out laughing.
"Have you two decided what you'd like to order?" She asked.
"Yes," Puck said immediately. "I'd like one spicy tuna roll, one Seattle roll, four California rolls, two rainbow rolls, and just one spider roll, with soy sauce on the side. Oh, and another order of miso soup. "
My eyes widened. Where was he getting the money for all of this? I felt the waitress's eyes on me and looked up.
"I'll just have one shrimp tempura roll, please."
"Nah, Brina, get another!" Puck urged.
I looked at him suspiciously.
"And a spider roll, if Mr. Moneybags is okay with that." I shrugged.
"More than okay." Puck grinned, as he leaned back in his seat.
After we finished devouring every last bite of the sushi, which was the best I'd ever had, the same waitress we had ordered from brought us our bill. I gaped at the number staring back at me. It was over two hundred dollars.
"Puck, I know it's rude to ask, but where are you getting the money for all of this?"
"I'm not." He stated.
"I'm not dine-n-dashing at a place like this."
"Who said we were?"
I rolled my eyes. Puck got out of his seat. He grabbed my hand and pulled me up.
"Everyone!" He yelled.
The entire restaurant turned to look at us. I groaned as I realized what he was about to do. A few people started recording as he got down on one knee.
"Sabrina Grimm, I know we're still young, but it would make the happiest man on earth to be with you forever."
He winked at me, forever was a long time when you weren't able to die.
"And that's why I'm asking you this." He dug through his shorts pocket for a moment before he found what he was looking for.
He fumbled with the ring for a second, before regaining his composure.
"Will you marry me?"
As much as I didn't want to play along, I knew we had to find a way to pay for the food.
"Yes! Yes, I will marry you." I exclaimed, throwing my arms around him.
The restaurant exploded into a series of clapping and congratulations. For good measure, I shed a few fake tears, and he made a big deal of wiping them away, before picking me up. I watched as one of the chefs walked over to us.
"Dinner is on us, and congratulations to the happy couple!" He clapped Puck on the back and squeezed my shoulder.
"Thanks, man. I struggled not to laugh. As much as I hated to admit it, Puck was one of the smartest people I knew.
"Well, that was fun." Puck stated as we pulled back into the driveway of the beach house.
"Very." I agreed. "I'm glad we're engaged now."
"Don't worry, Grimm. When I propose to you for real, it won't be in the middle of a sushi restaurant. Maybe in the middle of a public restroom, or a gas station or something cool like that, but not a sushi restaurant."
I giggled, but my heart was pounding at the thought of a real proposal one day.
"Well, we should probably go check on everyone inside." Puck unbuckled his seatbelt, and opened the car door.
"Probably."
"Wouldn't want to leave them for too long, and end up with any pregnant eleven-year-olds."
"Puck, stop it." I swatted his arm.
"Never."
