Authors note: So I've finally come back to dabble in this a bit. I have gone back through and did a bit of editing but the story is still the same. I'll be adding a new chapter soon for those of you who have read this story and are still interested in seeing what happens next. For any new readers who have made it this far in the story i really appreciate you for checking out my writing. That is all :)

The Enchanted Forest,

Jack's eyes shot open, and he saw that he was no longer outside in the forest but lying safe on a soft bed. He slowly sat himself up and messaged his temple. "What a nightmare," he said, remembering the giant wolfman. But when he looked around, he knew either he was still dreaming or something strange had happened to him. He saw he was in a room that looked like it was straight out of a nobleman's castle from medieval times. The curtains were drawn closed and dim candles lit the room. He could feel the worry inside him, but he refused to panic.

He then noticed his uniform was gone and he worse a pair of loose brown trousers and a white shirt. They too looked matched the time period of his surroundings. On a table near his bed, he saw his uniform. It looked freshly laundered and his Victoria Cross and the photo of Carina lay on top of them. Everything began to come back to him. He thought of Iris and wondered if she was ok. He tried to stand but was too weak. He put his hand to his left side and felt no bandages or blood. He lifted his shirt up and saw his wound. "How," he asked in disbelief. The wound was gone, and a fresh scar took it place. How long had he been lying here?

At that time there was a knock on the door and a beautiful woman with long dark hair wearing a white dress fit for a queen opened the door.

"Good morning," she smiled. "I don't mean to bother you. I was just checking in to see how you're doing."

"I'm…surprisingly fine," he said. "Who are you and where am I?"

"Well for starters, I'm Snow White and you're here at the royal palace, safe and sound."

There was a short moment of silence and Jack started to chuckle and then exploded with laughter. Snow was both worried and slightly offended. "What do you find so funny," she asked.

"Snow White? As in Snow White and the Seven Dwarves," he asked.

"Um, yes," she said giving him a concerned look.

"And I suppose there's a Prince Charming as well," he asked trying not to laugh again.

"Yes. His names David but we call him Charming. It's a long story. Are you sure you're alright? Here, let me let some light in." Snow stepped over to the windows and drew back the curtains lighting up the room. Jack squinted a bit, but his eyes quickly adjusted.

"I'm sorry Miss but I'm still having trouble understanding what's going on. Maybe this is just a nightmare brought about from my mother reading me too many of Grimm's fairy tales and I'm in a field hospital."

"Field hospital? Are you a soldier of some sort," Snow asked.

"Yes, actually I am," Jack replied.

"Well, you must be a well-trained one to have lasted so long against a werewolf like you did. It's a good thing I and Charming had been in the area looking into the sightings of the Evil Queen or we wouldn't have heard the loud noise from your magic weapon."

"Magic weapon? You mean my rifle," he asked.

"If that's what it is called then yes."

"So that was you who killed the beast?"

"It was. I fancy myself pretty handy with a bow," she smiled.

"Don't be so modest, Snow," said a man at the door. "She's the best shot in the Enchanted Forest and possibly everywhere else." As he stepped into the room Jack could see him more clearly. He had dirty blond hair, clean shaven and dressed like a prince.

"And now you can see why we call him Charming," Snow smiled.

"Wait a moment," Jack asked. He motioned for Snow to come to him. She did and she sat on the side of his bed. "Give me your hand." She cautiously gave him her hand. He touched her hand and it felt real. Soft and warm. He moved his hands around the sheets, and he could feel them. He could feel the warm sunshine on his face through the window. He still doesn't believe it, but the senses don't lie.

"So, this is real? You are both real," he asked in confusion.

"It's as real as me standing here in front of you right now," Charming said. "So, what land do you hail from?"

"England," Jack said.

"I can't say I've heard of it."

"That's so strange to hear someone say," Jack said. "Where I'm from my home country is in the middle of a great war that practically almost the whole world is fighting."

"That's horrible," Snow said sadly.

"It is. I've seen a lot of friends die over the past few years."

"We've seen our share of war as well," Charming frowned.

"The girl you found me with, Iris. Is she ok," Jack asked.

"She's just fine," Snow said as she took Jacks hands and placed the min hers. "You don't have to worry about her. She's safe and recovering in the next room." Jack could see the kindness and assurance in her eyes, and he couldn't help but smile.

"Thank you for helping us," Jack said.

"What kind of Queen and King would we be if we didn't aid those in need," Snow said.

"Well, your Majesty I'm sorry for laughing earlier," Jack said sincerely. "I just found this all hard to believe…still do."

"It's fine," she smiled. "And you can just call me Snow. No need for all the formalities."

"I don't mean to be rude, but I must find a way to get home. Is there any way you can help?"

"We will do everything we can but for now you should rest and regain your strength," she said. "Tomorrow, we will sit down with you and Iris and discuss how you got here and how we can get you home."

"Yes, we will leave you to rest," Charming said. "I and Snow have a lot to do. Wedding plans to make."

"Congratulations," Jack said.

"Thank you," Charming smiled. "Also, food will be brought to you shortly and if you need anything just let us know."

With that Charming and Snow left the room closing the door behind them. Jack sat on the bed still trying to process everything. "Ok, let's put things in order," he whispered to himself. "I was magically sent to a place called the Enchanted Forest where Snow White and Prince Charming are King and Queen. I met the Evil Queen, fought a werewolf to save Iris and now I'm in a Royal Palace." It all sounded insane, but he had no other choice but to go along with it, dream or no dream. He'd have to if he wanted to find a way to get back to 1917. If he could get back.

He lay back in his bed and recited to himself, "There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy."

He spent most of the day in bed and slept all through the night. The next morning, he bathed himself, put on his uniform and went to check in on Iris. By the time he had entered the room he saw Charming and Snow sitting in chairs next to Iris's bed.

"Am I intruding," he asked.

Iris couldn't do anything but smiled when she saw him. "No of course not," Iris said. "Come in Jack."

"I'll get and extra chair," Charming said as he stood up and left the room.

"How do you feel," Jack asked.

"I feel find. The healers magic works fast. How's your side?"

"Fine, nothing but a scar," he smiled. "Magic. I've always though such things were fairy tales and nonsense but now I've seen it."

"There's no magic where you come from," asked Snow.

"No. None at all."

"A land without magic," she said. "Magic can help as much as it can hurt, and it always comes with a price. Charming and I know all about that."

Charming returned with a wooden chair and sat it next to his and Snow's. "Here you are," he said. Jack thanked him and sat down.

"Now that we are here let's talk about what happened," Snow said. "Iris you said you used a magic necklace to travel to another land?"

"Yes, it was during the war with the Evil Queen that I left. It doesn't seem so long ago that I left here and now the war is over. I suppose time works different here than where I went. I was told by my mother a long time ago that magic can sometimes be very strange. After I left, I ended up in a country called France and soon after a war broke out." She chuckled a bit, like it was a bad joke. "I left one war to end up in the middle of another."

"The necklace, where did it come from," Charming asked.

Iris was silent and her eyes went to the floor. "Rumpelstiltskin."

"You made a deal with him?"

"No…I stole the necklace."

"You stole from Rumpelstiltskin? Did you not realize how dangerous that was," Snow chimed in. "He could have killed you."

"At the time I would have rather been dead, your Majesty. Father gave us away to the Evil Queen, then mother died, and I was still left to serve her as a slave."

"Did you not try to escape," Charming asked.

"I did," Iris said. "But she would catch me, and the punishments were…horrible." They all could see the emotional pain in Iris's face.

"I'm sorry," Snow said and she gave her a hug.

"Thank you, your Majesty," Iris smiled.

"For the last time it's Snow," she replied. "Please continue."

"Yes, your Majes- Snow. It was the last time that I had managed to escape that while hiding in the woods I ran into a hermit woman who told me about Rumpelstiltskin and the necklace. She said it could take me to a land far away from here."

"I wonder why Rumpelstiltskin would want something like that," Charming asked.

"He's always collected all kinds of strange things. He has a lock of our hair you know," Snow reminded him.

"So, I snuck into his castle and stole it," Iris continued. "By the time he had seen me I had used the necklace and I was gone."

"So, he's probably the only one who knows how it works," Jack said. "We have to go to him."

"No, you don't understand Jack. He's a horrible creature and he would torture you for his own amusement," Iris warned.

"But I have to get back home. You know what's at stake for me. I don't know if Darren is alive or dead and Carina's waiting for us."

"Carina. Is she your true love," Snow asked.

"Yes," he replied.

A determined expression came across Snow's face and a fire was lit in her eyes. "Charming we've got to get him back home. Whatever it takes."

"I agree but I don't like it. Going to Rumpelstiltskin for anything is always dangerous." He thought for a moment. "Alright tomorrow Jack and I will go and have a talk with him. Iris will be safe here in the palace." Charming then looked at Jack and put a hand on his shoulder. "If this doesn't work, we will do whatever we can to get you home. I promise."
