Sorry for the wait, but here's the second part of the gym battles, I know the gym battles have been a but repetitive, but that stops now! Anyway, enjoy the chapter!
"Which of you wants to battle next?" Daisy asked. Renée and Diego still had to battle, Renée stepped forward.
"I guess that's my cue!" Daisy noted, she stepped onto the battlefield with Renée.
"Well Renée, let's not waste any time! I'm good at Double Battles, you have to be smart in them or else it could end up being two against one!" Daisy explained. "So this battle will be two on two!"
"That's fine with me!" Renée responded.
"Then let's do this! Cloyster and Luverin!" Daisy sent out her Cloyster, Luverin was revealed to be a female Luvdisc, it even had a small crown accessory.
'I only have two pokemon, and Growlithe is a Fire Type so this can't be good... wait, if Cloyster is a part Ice type, maybe I have a chance!' Renée thought to herself, she sent out the only 2 pokemon she had. The others seemed a bit concerned at this fact.
"A Fire Type? Bold choice!" Daisy noted. "You're free to make the first move!"
"Ok, Flaaffy, use Charge Beam on the Luvdisc and Growlithe, use Flame Burst on Cloyster!" Renée ordered, Flaaffy shot out its Charge Beam while Growlithe shot a thin flaming bullet towards Cloyster at a high speed.
"Luverin, use Agility!" Daisy called out, Luverin sped away from the Charge Beam, but Daisy was too slow to call out a command for Cloyster, it ended up getting hit pretty hard. The Flame Burst (as the name says) exploded on contact with Cloyster sending smaller flames everywhere, one of which actually hitting Luvdisc! Though it didn't do much damage due to Luverin being a Water type.
"Oh no!" Daisy said in shock, she quickly regained her focus. "Cloyster, use Shell Smash!"
Cloyster began to crack, it broke out of it's shell and became not only faster, but much more powerful as an attacker.
"Flaaffy use Shock Wave! Growlithe, you use Flame Wheel on Cloyster!"
Flaaffy gathered electricity and shot out a bluish-white lightning Bolt at Luvdisc. Growlithe charged towards Cloyster in a blazing wheel of crimson fire.
"Luverin use Aqua Jet on Growlithe and Cloyster use Icicle Crash on Flaaffy!"
Luverin dashed towards Growlithe, a stream of water trailed behind it. Cloyster formed 3 sharp icicles from out of thin air and shot them at Flaaffy, the attack boost it gained from the Shell Smash caused Flaaffy to take extra damage.
"Luverin! Cloyster! One more time to finish it!" Daisy ordered. Renée had to think fast if she wanted to win.
Without her calling for an attack, Renée's pokemon began to attack. Growlithe charged towards Luverin with its fangs glowing yellow. Flaaffy charged electricity, just as it would for Charge Beam, but instead of shooting a beam of electricity, Flaaffy threw a large ball of electricity at Cloyster. Both attacks had hit their targets, Luvdisc's low stats didn't help it stand up to Growlithe's Thunder Fang. However, despite Cloyster having reasonably low Special Defenses and lowering them due to Shell Smash, Cloyster was still barely able to stand up to Flaaffy's Electro Ball.
"O-oh my! This certainly isn't good..." Daisy said in worry, though her worried expression quickly went away and Daisy quickly composed herself. "But I cant give up! Cloyster, use Rock Blast on Growlithe!"
Cloyster shot out a barrage of rocks at Growlithe, Growlithe had no chance to stand up to the attacks and quickly went down. Renée didn't seem too shocked at Growlithe getting knocked out, this is a Water Type gym after all, she was actually more surprised at the fact that Growlithe now had a move to cover one of its weaknesses.
"Ok Flaffy, let's end this! Use Charge Beam!" Renée ordered, Flaaffy shot the beam at Cloyster. Cloyster stood no chance at taking this attack, Flaaffy's Special Attack was already decent enough, but with the boosts from Charge Beam, it was a force to be reckoned with.
Daisy let out a disappointed sigh. "I guess I lost, but it doesn't matter. I had fun, that's what battles are about right?" Daisy recalled her pokemon into their pokeballs. "You're certainly a great trainer Renée, I know you'll go far!"
After hearing that, Renée had difficulty keeping in her squeals of joy.
The sun was beginning to set, there was time for one more battle. Thankfully, this was the last battle of the day. Diego and Misty took up their places on the arena, both of them had confident aura about them.
"Alright Diego, this'll just be a regular battle. No gimmicks, no tricks, just a normal battle for the Cascade Badge! The battle will be 3 on 3!" Misty announced.
"I hope you're ready for the toughest trainer you've ever faced!" Diego said.
"Ok then, Staryu come-"
Misty was about to send out her Staryu, though a different pokeball opened.
"Psy-ai-ai!" The pokemon said. Diego scanned it with his pokedex.
'Psyduck, the Duck pokemon: It has mystical powers but doesn't recall that it has used them. That is why it always looks puzzled.'
"Psyduck?! You haven't popped out of your pokeball in years! Is something wrong?" Misty asked. Instead of getting an answer, Psyduck stepped onto the battlefield, Misty understood what it wanted to do and let Psyduck battle.
"Alright Pikachu, let's go!" Diego said, sending out his Pikachu. When Misty saw Diego's Pikachu, she couldn't help but think about her own travels. Though this sense of nostalgia didn't last long.
"Pikachu, use Thunder Shock!" Diego commanded, Pikachu let out a small electric Bolt towards Psyduck. It hit it's target dead on, but it didn't seem to do any damage.
'Well Diego's certainly as confident and rambunctious as him...' Misty thought to herself.
"Psyduck, use Psychic!"
Psst k's eyes and body began to glow blue, Psyduck began to form a ball of energy with blue swirls inside of it. Psyduck launched the ball of energy towards Pikachu, the orb was extremely quick, too quick for Pikachu to see. It ended up getting knocked out by the attack.
"Woah! How is that even possible?!" Renée said in disbelief, Julia was also stunned at what just happened.
"Well Psyduck may be a derpy Water and Psychic type pokemon, but appearances can be deceiving!" Jack stated, though he was still thoroughly shocked as well.
"Oh man..." Diego said. He cautiously sent out his Zubat. Since Psyduck is a Water/Psychic type pokemon, neither of Diego's remaining pokemon would match up well, Charmeleon is a Fire Type and Zubat is part poison. Though everyone knew a pokemon's type doesn't decide if it wins or loses.
"Ok Zubat, use Bite!"
Zubat flew towards Psyduck and bit it right on its forehead, strangely though, Psyduck did not even try to dodge.
"Psyduck, use Water Pulse!"
Psyduck reached out its hand and began to form a sphere of water, it then grabbed Zubat and removed it from its forehead (thankfully without injury). Psyduck then threw Zubat and then proceeded to throw the Water Pulse at it. Zubat had no time to recover from the throw and dodge the attack, it ended up getting knocked out as well.
"How does that Psyduck not feel anything?!" Julia said in shock.
"I don't think I've ever seen a pokemon so resilient!" Jack said, the sight of Psyduck's power left him gobsmacked. Jack began to think of the battle he had against Meridia and how her Clefairy dominated Jack's entire party of pokemon. Would this battle end up having the same result?
"Charmeleon, you can do it!" Diego said, sending out his starter pokemon. "Use Dragon Rage!"
"Psyduck, use Ice Beam!" Misty ordered, Psyduck opened its mouth, it sent out a soft white beam towards the blue flames of the Dragon Rage. The Ice Beam went clean through the Dragon Rage and struck Charmeleon down, knocking it out as well.
"W-With an attack that is weak to fire..." Renée said in absolute shock!" The others, including Misty's sisters were completely speechless. Diego recalled his Charmeleon.
"Diego, this loss isn't the end of the world. As a trainer you have to learn from your losses. Why don't you come back tomorrow and try again..." Misty said, Diego was understandably upset, though he knew Misty was right.
Some time later, the group was resting at the Pokemon Center for the night. It was around 7:45 p.m. Diego was thinking to himself while the others were getting ready for dinner, Jack approached his friend.
"Don't let this get to you dude..." Jack said. "It just means you have to give it your all next time!" Diego suddenly smirked.
"Yeah I guess you're right." Diego said, he stood up and began to head for the door.
"Where are you going?" Jack asked.
"I'm gonna get some more training in for tomorrow, save some dinner for me ok!" Diego answered, he left before Jack had a chance to say anything else.
Diego headed onto Route 4 to train, he sent out his 3 pokemon, they all looked upset at their loss. Pikachu looked dissapointed, Zubat looked as if it blamed itself, Charmeleon looked like it had its pride shattered.
"Look guys, I know our battle today was... unexpected, but we can't let it get to us! We tried our best and that's all that matters, now we have to take this loss and learn from it!" He told his pokemon, Pikachu and Charmeleon seemed to feel a bit better at Diego's words, though Zubat still looked hurt, Diego noticed this.
"Zubat, this wasn't your fault. You tried your best and I appreciate that!" Diego said, he smiled at his Zubat and Zubat smiled back at him (despite it not having eyes).
"Alright guys, let's get training!" Diego announced.
And part 2 of the Cerulean Gym battles is over. The next chapter will actually NOT be another gum battle, I want to give them a short break for now. As for Psyduck being a Water/Psychic type, since I altered pokemon's movesets, I changed their typing too. Though these changes won't happen for every pokemon. Anyway, I hope you enjoyed!
