It was four am and the kids had barely slept any that night. In fact, they hadn't even left their places on the couch until Sue had come back home explaining to them that they were going to be staying some where safe and that they needed to pack.

Which led to them going back to the Fabray manor first for the triplets and back to the Corcoran home for the twins.

The triplets packed all the clothing and necessities they would need and some other things like their laptops and such. Whatever they wanted for their own entertainment but everything else was to be left behind.

The triplets felt fear while packing. Sure there was some form of relief with knowing they were leaving the manor but at the same time they felt like it wouldn't matter anyway. None of them voiced those thoughts though and continued packing.

Sue had wanted them to do so while the neighborhood was still asleep. She didn't want anyone knowing what was happening or whom the kids had left with.

Everything was to be as inconspicuous as possible. Sue waited outside until finally the triplets came out with their duffle bags, school bags, etc. Then they drove to the Corcorans'.

Rachel only had to grab her duffle bag that was already packed as always. Skyler had to pack but it didn't take long. Eventually they were on the rode again just as dawn approached.

By the time they pulled up to their destination the morning sun was upon them. The teens looked around at the 7 acres of land and the one small quaint house with a old barn a good distance away.

"Alright, everybody out." Sue instructed.

The kids followed suit, following Sue to the house as the older woman opened it.

"Have a seat." Sue said as she gestured to the sectional couch in the living room, the second they walked through the door. The tired teens followed and sat.

"So, this place isn't spacious enough for everyone to live comfortably. It's only a two bedroom house but after myself and a buddy of mine cleared out the attic we were able to get enough room.

So, Shelby and I have discussed the living arrangments. The master bedroom will be shared by Shelby and Judy. Skyler and Charlie you'll share the second bedroom, next to the master bedroom. Sam we cleared out the small office space to use as a room for you since you're the only boy here and lastly, Quinn you'll be rooming with Rachel in the attic."

It was a difficult decision to put Rachel in the attic but Shelby knew that if Rachel had to be any where near her, she would either sneak out or storm out and no one wanted that.

So to give Rachel space they decided on the attic and since Quinn was the only person Rachel could stand being in the same room with, it was a no brainer.

"This stay isn't permanent like I said but it's somewhere to be until we can make better arrangements. For now, Skyler and Charlie there are two twin beds in your room. Sam we purchased a air mattress for you, same for Quinn and Rachel. They're already prepared we also got each of you knew sheets and blankets, they should be on your individual beds. So, rest up if you can and remember that you are safe here."

"Excuse me, Ms. Sylvester.. but what about our mom?" Sam asked.

"Shelby is currently at the hospital handling that and your mom will hopefully be transported here soon. So if you hear anything or multiple people don't worry that's most likely them."

The teens nodded.

"Alright well, head up to bed. If you can't sleep there's food so get whatever you need."

Sue could tell the weight was becoming heavier on the triplets shoulders. They looked worn out and scared in their own worlds. She hoped that soon things would get better.

The teens stood up somberly as they each began looking for their individual space. Quinn sighed as she reached the attic followed by Rachel. The brunette hadn't said anything else since she let Quinn touch her belly.

Quinn wanted to ask some more questions. She wanted to take her mind off of what was happening and Rachel seemed to be her only light in the darkness. She watched the brunette drop her duffle bag next to the air mattress and slip off her shoes to lay down.

Rachel's body was screaming exhaustion. The brunette bit her lip to keep from letting out the very deep aching moan of relief her back felt as she laid down. She had wanted to sleep hours ago at Sue's house but didn't because for some god forsaken reason her conscious did not feel right about leaving Quinn up and alone. Now she's mentally berating herself because her back is killing her and her feet are aching.

Quinn slipped off her shoes and hesitated for a moment. She didn't want to sleep alone in this new place. She felt fear pricking at her heart. She swallowed thickly, thankful they had bought each of them the queen sized air mattresses as she walked over to Rachel's bed.

The brunette was just dozing off when her eyes snapped open once more at the sight of the blonde standing above her. Quinn bit her lip self consciously not sure if she should ask or not. Rachel rolled her eyes and huffed as she scooted than adjusted her place on the bed to give Quinn more space to lay down. The blonde smiled sadly as she slid in using the quilt to toss over them.

She hesitated once more before scooting closer to Rachel but instead of the normal two feet of space it was now one since this was no longer Rachel's larger mattress.

"Thank you, Rachel." Quinn whispered.

It was silent so Quinn figured Rachel fell asleep but her eyes pricked with tears when she received a reply.

"...Your welcome."

It was gruff and slightly clipped with annoyance but those two words filled Quinn with something akin to cuddling. She felt protected and the sad anxiety she felt mere seconds prior evaporated in to nothing, that combination had her eyes closing before she could do much else.

Charlie and Skyler entered their room. It was a medium sized room. Both beds being across from each other.

The blonde and brunette worked in silence as they began unpacking their things. They didn't know how long they'd be there but at least if they had some sort of normalcy visible it'd make the situation better.

Skyler had finished putting everything away first. She sighed as she climbed in the bed but it wasn't a tired sigh it was a sad one.

Charlie had shut down again and she didn't know how to reach her. She didn't know the right words to say without pissing her off because she's beginning to understand the girls emotional patterns.

The tiny unseen pinches or facial quirks that use to be unreadable she can now read. She's becoming so insanely adjusted to the equation of Charlie that she understood in that moment that Charlie wasn't going to bed.

The blonde was currently trapped in her mind and there were so many emotional receptors firing off at once. She knew that if she even hinted that maybe the blonde should try to rest it would cause an explosion.

She knows it's not her responsibility to try and help Charlie. She knows she doesn't have to try and be that shoulder the blonde needs but she wants to be. She just isn't sure if Charlie wants her to be. It's confusing to her but it's not.

It's clear as day that Charlie has anger issues and she doesn't know how to channel it and that's okay because Skyler herself still has her own anger issues. She's just had a lot of therapy and now knows how to control herself better.

So she understands Charlie in that aspect and she also understands that right now Charlie needs to be alone in her thoughts. So right now she knows it would be appreciated more if she went to sleep and give Charlie time without her eyes tracking her every move.

"Good night, Char." Skyler said softly, before laying down and turning away from the blonde and facing the wall.

Charlie's eyes shut as she fought to hold back her tears. "Good night, Sky.." The blonde replied sadly.

It didn't take Skyler long to fall asleep but the second Charlie knew she was she bit her lip to hold in her sob as her tears fell uncontrollably, her heart contradicting her tears because she was filling with hellfire in anger.

She wanted to leave. She wanted to leave in search of her father and kill him for what he's putting them through. For what he did to their mother. On the outside she looked like a scared little girl but everything in her wanted to destroy her dad. Castrate Puck and just fuck the world in it's entireity.

Sam walked into the tiny office room and looked at the small space. He sighed as he dropped his duffle bag by the door.

He walked over to the air mattress and sat. The silence was deafening.

He felt like he wasn't even in his own body. He felt lost and depressed and wished he could stop the emotional current hitting him repeatedly.

It wouldn't go away no matter how hard he tried. He was exhausted and though he laid down and got comfortable, he still couldn't sleep.

It took seconds for him to succumb to the onslaught of tears as that day replayed in his head. The same thoughts that refused to let him sleep.

His father beating his mother to an inch of her life. He, himself coughing blood as he tried to stand on shaky legs after have his breath beat from him. Quinn, Charlie, all their cries of pain collected together.

It was too much for him and he sobbed as he curled in a ball as fear took hold of him that his father would win, that he'd find them and it'd only get worse.

Sam felt anger growing in him along with his fear. He felt rage and couldn't understand why his father is the man that he is.

Why couldn't he love them? Why couldn't he love them enough to be better than he is? His mother is an amazing woman, so why couldn't his father cherish that? Cherish them?

The questions, anger, sadness, and fear swirled deep and kept stabbing him with the truth that he'd never get answer.

"I need the address to make sure Mrs. Fabray is transported accurately." The doctor replied for the thousandth time. You could hear the lilt of angered annoyance in his tone.

Shelby smiled calmly for the billionth time as if this doctor didn't faze her one bit. In a sickly sweet tone she replied. "Once again doctor, it's strictly for the safety of my sister that the hospital has no address."

"Ms. Corcoran, it's hospital policy. We can't simply let you leave with a patient just because you say you are her sister. Especially, in her condition. The address will be protected because we have a confidentiality agreement between doctor and pat-"

"Yes, I'm well aware but forgive me if I'm wrong but my niece told me that you are actually on a more than business terms with my brother in law. That you play golf together which brings about the question of conflict of interest, now are you going to stand here and lie to my face about it?"

"W-Well I-That's not- It isn't-"

"Save it, my sisters lawyer is back with official escort. Now if you will kindly move we'll be on our way." Shelby sneered just as Kevin arrived with two men in medic uniform.

"Hello again, doctor. I trust you aren't giving either of my clients any trouble?" Kevin said. The doctor clenched his jaw.

"No, not at all. I was just asking Ms. Corcoran for the address for hospital documentation as to where Mrs. Fabray will be held for the duration of her recovery."

"I see, well here you go." Kevin said with a smile as he handed the doctor a folder.

The doctor smiled wickedly at Shelby before opening the file and began to read only for his smile to drop.

"Those are the legal documents you asked for and as you can see Mrs. Fabray herself has signed her agreement that vital information-addresses being one of them- is not to be given to anyone other than Ms. Corcoran or myself. Thank you for your concern doctor but you can go now." Kevin finished with a sneer of his own full of assertiveness.

"I see. Well.. Alright." The doctor nodded before walking off to sign the release forms.

"Kevin, I swear I'm going to treat you to a two month vacation with pay." Shelby smiled happily.

"I won't say no to that. Now, let's get moving. We're running out of time."

Sam couldn't sleep and had gone to the kitchen to make a sandwich. It has been two hours since they arrived and under different circumstances he'd take in the view of the land and bask in it's beauty but he couldn't. He was too sad.

He just finished making his sandwich and took a seat at the breakfast bar when the last person he expected to see awake entered the kitchen.

Rachel froze at the entrance of the door. She and Sam locked eyes before she rolled hers and began to turn away to leave.

"You don't have to leave." Sam spoke up as he stood before she could. Rachel's steps faltered.

"I know you don't like people around-" Sam began.

Rachel furrowed her brow at him and he stuttered to correct himself.

I-I mean-not like I know you, know you. I just mean you don't like people-"

At that Rachel raised her brown in a 'What the fuck?' look causing Sam to become flustered once more.

"Not that I think you're hateful or anything! I just-I mean-You-I'm sorry this is coming out wrong. I swear I'm not trying to offend y-"

"Dude chill." Rachel replied. "I get it."

"Oh thank god." Sam said in exasperation as he collapsed back on to his stool while face palming in embarrassment.

"Do you always talk like you have a jacked up motor in your mouth or..?"

Sam looked at the brunette in shock that she was actually speaking to him.

He cleared his throat and did his best to relax as to not make the situation seem bigger than it is.

Something he's learned that Quinn does when she talks about her dealings with the brunette.

"Uh.. No actually. You just caught me off guard." He replied.

Rachel stood in the doorway and the room filled with awkwardness. Sam sat back to continue eating his sandwich.

"Please, don't let me run you out of here." Sam said.

The brunette nodded and walked to the fridge but said nothing.

Sam ate his sandwich quietly as he subtly took the brunette in. He had wanted to get to know the brunette for some time now but knew it would be weird and not at all appreciated by Rachel.

However; He concluded that if they were going to be in each other's space for the duration of their stay at the house than why not try. He knew exactly what he wanted to say first even if it would seem random to the brunette.

"Thank you, Rachel."

Rachel froze as she just shut the fridge door after grabbing the water bottle she had come to the kitchen in search of. She turned to him with a furrowed brow, her posture tense with warning.

"What?"

"I said thank you." Sam reiterated.

"What the hell are you talki-" Rachel began already on the defense with her anger beginning to boil.

"Quinn."

The brunette's eyes flashed with something. It was soft but guarded in recognition but she didn't say anything.

"I don't know if you know everything nor do I know anything about what you and Quinn talk about but what I do know is that because of you I see a difference in her."

"See, she use to have this.. darkness in her eyes. Something that goes deeper than anything I've seen in my mother and Charlie-hell even more than my own. It's always been there since we were old enough to understand who our father is and how he treated us, especially Quinn."

"Even when she's at the top of the pyramid-which is her favorite place to be-that darkness is still looming. Her eyes never really have anything in them. They're usually vacant unless she's putting on a show for who ever is watching."

"Every time Char and I are around her it always feels like we're on borrowed time. Like she doesn't really belong to us. Like she's ready to leave."

At that Rachel's eyes shot to Sam's and he saw the moment the meaning of his words hit and if he's being honest it looked as if the air had just been sucked from the brunette's lungs, though to anyone she may look like she hadn't reacted at all.

"But now Quinn seems-I don't know-Lighter somehow.. And I know that has everything to do with you. I've wanted to thank you for a while now but I know you don't know me. I know you like your space and privacy and I respect that but I have to tell you even if this is the only time we ever speak, that I appreciate you more than you'll ever know because thanks to you I can see it in my sister."

Rachel furrowed her brow and found her lips parting as she unconsciously stood on the edge of her metaphorical seat to know. "See what?"

Sam smiled sadly as his red glassy eyes locked with curious brown. "She's going to stay now. She going to live because you've given her what I guess she didn't really have before.. purpose."

With that Sam grabbed his plate with his Sandwich and glass of juice and walked to leave the kitchen so Rachel wouldn't feel uncomfortable.

"Sam.." Rachel called out low soft and the blonde turned to her at the entryway. "I'm sorry.."

Rachel felt so awkward and didn't know why she felt compelled to say anything but she felt a strong urge to give the boy something of reassurance. "About your situation, I mean."

"I appreciate it, Rachel." He replied sadly.

Sam turned to leave once more before Rachel's mouth open again with her mind damning her to hell for being nice to boy.

"Sam.."

Sam turned to her once more.

"You feel like going for a walk?"

Sam's eyes welled with tears as he was hit with something fierce. Wondering if this is what Quinn feels like when Rachel throws her a line. Like she's saving you.

"Yes actually, I can't sleep so that'd be great."
