Hey everyone,
I'm going to be honest with all of you; I had almost NO inspiration to write these chapters this month. The first half I worked on editing To Read Into The Universe and I got about 10 to 15 chapters in and after that a story idea that had been bugging me all month kept my attention for almost another week. I wrote 11 chapters in just three days, just to get the whole thing out of my head and even then I just wanted to write on.
I was actually planning to just write first page previews for all of these stories – bar Harrison and Harry, The Fidelius Kept Secret and The Unspeakable Escape Program which had chapters pre-written – and just promise you guys two chapters for next month alongside posting the 11 chapters of my new story this month. But I decided on the 22nd to just see how far I could get with all these stories and go from there.
Wish me luck,
Venquine1990
PS. I decided to postpone the Atlantica chapter for one more month due to time restraint. Sorry, but I hope you enjoy this chapter as well. Also Shout-out to Wishfull-Star, thanks for writing down your vote.
Chapter 52
Summoning Lessons and Historic Issues
31st of January 1996
Destiny's Haven
Jessica's POV
"Hey Sora, do you still have that little bit of lamp that Aladdin gave you to help you summon Genie from time to time?" I ask my brother, in an effort to keep my mind from imagining what my first time with Lea might be like. My brother shakes his head and says: "I lost it somewhere. But during my second journey, I got this charm that allows me to do the same." And he shows a silver pendant with a purple front and the lamp shown onto the purple front.
"Awesome, would you mind if we use it? I want to ask the genie that question about the cappuccino he mentioned." At this Sora smiles and then Riku says: "I got a better idea. Sora and I are going to test your skill with the Elemental attacks – not all of them, just the most basic of them – and then we'll see if you can learn summoning as well." This both really excites me and worries me as I remember how hard the summoning charm was to learn.
I mentally shake my head and think: "This magic is different. And I might get charms or gems or something of my own to help me summon my friends as well." And this makes me excitedly summon my Keyblade. Sora and Riku both summon their own and dad says: "Better do that in one of the other two rooms. I don't think there's enough space here." We nod and yet this time we head back to the room that still has my books in them.
Dad follows us and pulls his own wand out, casting spells on the seating area before he says: "There. Now you can use every element imaginable and we don't have to worry about the books getting damaged. Live yourselves wild, you three." And the man takes a seat in one of the chairs, the chair itself set in such a way he can watch us work. "Alright, let's start simple. Try a Fire, a Blizzard and a Thunder spell."
Riku instructs me and I nod at the man, feeling grateful as the movie we've been watching gives me a clear image of how to use these spells. I raise my blade above me and state: "Thunder!" And small bolts of lightning crash down on the ground around me, yet they only leave temporary marks before some form of magic seems to make those marks vanish. Riku conjures himself a shield and I smile at him, aiming my weapon and stating: "Fire!"
And to my amazement does a burst of flame that actually has the fire alive and moving like a fox's tail burst out of my weapon and hit Riku's shield. "Wow, that's interesting." Dad mumbles and Sora states: "Maybe, but I've never seen fire spells be used like that before.""No, but it does make sense. I'm guessing that you've always been more well-attuned to air-based spells?" Sora looks at this curiously and mutters:
"To be honest, yeah. When I cast an aero at a certain area, it gives me the ability to jump much higher than anyone else. And if I cast it as a shield, it blows around me much stronger than if Donald or Goofy were to do so." Dad nods and Riku asks: "More Veela lessons?" To which dad answers: "More Magical Creature lessons. Veela have the ability to sprout wings and have a strong affinity with wind-based spells, such as your aero and for us the Levitation charm.
Kitsune, on the other hand, have the ability to grow an incredible amount of fox tails, the amount usually dependant on the strength of the Kitsune, the strength of his or her mate and the strength of the bond between them, and are more attuned to Fire-based spells, such as Incendio and this fire magic. And that fox-tailed flame just further proves that our little Jessie is only a few days into growing her own tails, maybe even only one or two."
This really excites me and then the man smirks and says: "You better keep practicing. Because Fire is your main element, you're going to have trouble casting some decent Ice spells, as they are the counter/opposite element." At this Riku summons another shield and I snarl loudly: "Deep Freeze." But to my shock does dad get proven right as only a few weak snow flakes shoot out of my Keyblade, only shooting a few inches before dissipating.
"Told you." Dad smirks and I glare at him as he sounds way too smug. Yet then suddenly I sense magic at work beside me and turn to my right, shocked to notice a gorgeous looking chest appear beside me. "Hey, that might be Lady Destiny presenting you with your first summoning charm. Open it, sis." Sora says excitedly and I happily tap the chest with my Keyblade, causing for it to open. And with my reflexes still as fast as ever, do I grab onto the bracelet that jumps out.
I examine it and my eyes widen as I notice that each gem bead on the bracelet is a different color, yet their colors are also really dull and dim. "They will shine whenever you master their respective summon. And I added one very special one to the bracelet, but I must ask you not to practice that until the very last. Leave it my little surprise for you, my little sweet." I hear Lady Destiny whisper in my ear and this makes me giggle.
"What? What's so funny?" Sora asks as he and Riku come to stand with me and I explain what Lady Destiny just told me. "Well, let's try it out. See what these beads are about and who they summon." Riku says and I nod before Sora says: "Though be careful. Remember, my summon charms and gems allow me to summon beings from other worlds. But they are still the existing specie of those worlds and those usually don't have humans in them. Because your home world has more humans than other creatures, you might summon other people."
At this I nod, understanding the boy and why he wants to warn me about something like this and then ask: "Why don't we start with just summoning Genie first? So I can ask him my question." Sora nods and moves away from us, going over to stand at a blank empty spot in the room. He takes the charm in his hand and slaps it against his Keyblade as he yells: "Light." And in a flash of purple and blue smoke, the Genie appears.
"SORA! SO GOOD TO SEE YOU! IT'S BEEN AGES! YOU SHOULD COME TO AGRABAH MORE OFTEN! YOU WON'T BELIEVE WHAT I'VE DONE WITH THE PLACE! OH, AND DID YOU HEAR! ALADDIN AND JASMINE GOT MARRIED! OH, IT WAS SO EXCITING AND SO ROMANTIC! AND I GOT TO BE BEST MAN TOO! BEST MAN! Or better said, Best Genie, but whatever! And Abu and Rajah carried Jasmine's gorgeous train and –."
"Genie, it sounds amazing, but can you please give me two minutes? I want to introduce you to my family." Sora interrupts the excitable blue ball of wonder and magic and while I think: "And I thought he was going out of his way when Sora first met him." The Genie looks up and instantly poofs over to Riku and me. "You must be Riku! I can't tell you the amount of times Sora told his friends that he was looking for you! So good to finally meet you!
And – you are?" This makes dad shake his head in shock and Riku also seems to try and bring some life back into his limp arm as it had been shook ferociously while the Genie was talking. "My name's Jessica. Sora is my brother, but he was taken from us and our world when he was born. I've also believed myself an orphan for the last fourteen years, but Sora being a Veela, a magical creature, helped our family get back together.
By the way, it's an honor and a pleasure to meet you, Genie." Genie blinks at me and then turns to Sora as he says: "Wow, I like her." Making me giggle before I say: "Also, did you know that, in my world, there's this guy named Walt Disney who actually invented stories based around your home world and the home worlds of others? We just watched Sora first meeting you and it made me curious about something."
"Anything I can help with?""That's kind of why Sora summoned you. You see, as far as I know, if I were to place the timeline of your world into the timeline of my world, your world would be a good several centuries behind mine. And you mentioned something that, as far as I know, wasn't going to be invented for hundreds of years. So I guess my question is; how do you know about a cappuccino?" Yet at this the Genie turns somber.
"How? That's easy, kid. The magic of the lamp that I was stuck in until Aladdin freed me. It isn't just housed in the Cave of Wonders; that's just one of its homes. It jumps from world to world and ends up – with me inside it – wherever someone has real desperate need for a simple quick solution to their problems, more often than not jerks and bastards like that no-good Jafar." At this I nod, even though I really feel for the guy and say:
"So you know about Cappuccinos, because you went to a world where they already existed, right?" The Genie nods and says: "I – heh, don't ask me, alright? I'd rather never think about that period of my life again." At which I can't help but ask: "Can I have one?" And the Genie seems to really cheer up, snapping his fingers and conjuring a small cup of coffee as he says: "You get me, kid." At which I nod at him in honest empathy.
"So, want to try out one of yours now, sis?" Sora asks after I make sure that my drink is the right temperature and take a few sips. I nod at him and take another look at the beads on my bracelet. And my eyes widen when I notice one that has a very familiar beak and wing aimed in opposite directions of each other. I spare a quick glance at my dad and then move over to the open space where Sora was at earlier. And as if driven by instinct, do I say:
"Honor!" Intriguing my brother, yet I focus deeply on the grey bead that starts to shine brightly before a gust of wind, covered in the same grey colored feathers, starts to float and blow around me, causing for a small, harmless tornado to erupt around me. Yet it takes only a minute and then, when it's gone, do I feel a strong beak lying itself on my shoulder.
I smile and look to my side where a gorgeous, majestic bird that has its rear end looking like a horse and who has sharp orange eyes gazing straight into mine has come to stand. The Hyppogriff craws softly, yet then suddenly seems to see something. And to my shocked horror does it rear up and raise its claws straight at my face.
"Jessica!" I hear Riku and dad yell in concern and Sora shouts: "Genie, safe her!" And the Genie snaps his fingers again, causing for me to feel as if I suddenly disappeared, only to reappear right beside the blue wonder. It takes Buckbeak the Hippogriff a minute to notice this and he turns around, actually screeching at me yet again. But then dad comes to stand between us and shouts: "Beaky, easy! Calm yourself! She's not a predator! She's Harry!"
And to my utter relief does he seem able to get through to the raging beast, who calms down and twists his head to look at me over dad's shoulder. And while I had expected the attack to be because I didn't show the noble creature the respect it deserved, do I make sure to lock gazes with him before slowly bowing down. And this seems to make Buckbeak recognize me as he calms down and bows back, making me smile and sigh in relief.
"Okay, what just happened?" Genie asks and dad sighs as he says: "Beaky is a Hippogriff. A creature that is part horse, part bird. And both creatures have a natural enemy in foxes and felines, which Kitsune either descend from or can be like when they descend from the Potter line. And unfortunately, my little girl just happens to be both. Only the last time that she met with Buckbeak, she was still Harry, a male, and not anywhere close to her Kitsune inheritance."
He turns to me and says: "Sorry about that one, sweetie. I should have remembered to warn you about that." This really worries me and I ask: "Dad, what about Hedwig?" But the man smiles and says: "She's been around you this entire time, sweetie. She's had these past five days to get used to you coming into this inheritance, don't worry." And as if she knows that she's the topic, does my gorgeous white beauty fly in and land on my shoulder.
Good on you, Hedwig,
And I got to admit, I am BEYOND happy with this chapter. It might not be as long as the Atlantica chapter might have been – not by a longshot – but I am still very happy with it. It gave a bit more backstory to Genie, including the whole thing with him distrusting his masters and not believing Aladdin would free him right from the getgo, gave us some more history into Veela and Kitsune natures and even mixed that with Keyblade magic.
Yeah, I'm happy,
