Here is the next chapter. For this chapter I wanted to portray Minerva's bitter side over the fact that Harry is not in her house. She is very bitter indeed and will take much time to get over it. Please read and review it and we'll see where it goes. Love Moon xxx
Harry continued to eat his breakfast as the entire hall cleared. He was thrilled to be able eat at his own pace without needing to rush. He was very much still reeling from what Severus had told him about his father. As Severus had said he'd been a dark asshole and he knew it too but you did know you were getting that with him. He resolved to ask all the teachers about his parents after each of his first lessons in those classes to see what they said to him. Thanks to Vernon and his ramblings Harry was very adept at telling when someone was telling you what they thought you might like to hear instead of the actual truth and so he would be able to see if they were hedging a bit with him. Half an hour later he finished his breakfast and studied his timetable briefly. He now had Transfiguration class. He made his way to the class following the map on the back of his schedule and made it just in time.
He entered the classroom stunned at the cat sitting on the desk. He went up to the cat and began petting it. "Oh my goodness you're so cute aren't you? Hello sweetie! Don't you worry you poor thing we'll find your owner. Minnie take this poor lost cat and keep her safe until you can find her owner. Please put her in a cage and feed her some treats!" he said kissing the top of a horrified McGonagall's head who was carefully put into a cat carrier and escorted out of the room. They all waited for Professor McGonagall to turn up stunned when she did so ten minutes late with her hair in a mess.
"Mr Potter! That will be fifteen points from Ravenclaw for silliness. I am that cat. I was using a form of transfiguration to show off what transfiguration can do like I do in all of my first lessons with first years! It is meant to demonstrate how great Transfigurations and now no one will be amazed by it. Good job there!" she scolded yet again a bit like Dumbledore seeming annoyed that she couldn't show off for everyone because no one would be in awe of her now. What a disappointment she was turning out to be.
"Excuse me ma'am but how was I to know you weren't a lost and scared cat? That's not a very intelligent thing to do. You know the more intelligent thing to do would have been to explain yourself and then demonstrate it. Either way it is indeed a cool ability. I am happy for you that you can do this as it is a skill I have not yet mastered!" he said as she rounded on him looking furious. That fucker wasn't even in her house like he was meant to be and now he was being a smart arse too. Damn it. She'd take every point off Ravenclaw if she had to. Then he'd learn.
"Mr Potter you will never learn this skill and I can guarantee it! You don't even learn that ability till seventh year unless of course you break the rules like your father did and learn in your fifth year. Then again he was very talented and a Gryffindor to boot so it didn't matter nearly as much as it should have even if your mother did wait until she was of age to do it. Moving on for today's lesson you must take a match stick from this box and pass it on. Once you have your match stick we'll be changing it into a needle" she said passing back the box of matches while suddenly looking at Harry with such sadness it highly confused him.
She was very sorry for him because he'd lost his parents and this much was obvious but she was also very angry with him for interrupting her trick meaning that she missed out on the usual adoration her students gave her. Why was she so all over the place emotionally and why in the hell did it show so easily? She was living up to her houses traits a little too much by having no tact and just barging into things guns blazing no matter the situation.
Once everyone had their match sticks he practiced turning it into a needle using wandless magic and got it on the first go. He turned it back before she could see him however determined to do it with his wand. He waved his wand a couple of times but eventually got it right.
"Wow Harry how did you manage it so quickly?" asked Terry getting Minerva's attention immediately.
"I just imagined what it would look like as a needle and waved my wand the way it describes on the board. If you visualise what you want to happen clearly in your mind and then cast the spell it can be easier!" he said as Minerva arrived at his desk sneering at him slightly still extremely fucked off he wasn't a Gryffindor member like his parents had been. Neither was Neville Longbottom either and he was also a disgrace in her opinion.
"I see you thought you'd show everyone up by coming first like most unsporting people do. Take five points to Ravenclaw for a spell well cast but next time for the love of Merlin allow someone else top come first. I wouldn't want people to start thinking I have favourites. WHAT THE HELL?" she suddenly screamed alarming him as there was a blast sound from the back of the room where her shouting had made Ronald Weasley jump in his casting and he'd somehow managed to not only enlarge his match but set fire to his desk. He suffered slight burns on his face and hands although most of it did affect the desk.
"Great going Potter! Now because I was focused on you and why you just had to come first he got hurt! Are you proud of yourself? For Merlins sake Weasley shut up and go to the hospital wing. I swear Potter one more slip up and you'll end up in detention and on your first day of classes no less. That would be a record for you wouldn't it?" she snapped as he reeled and then snapped back himself not caring about what happened to him at all after that point.
"It's not my fault your shouting scared him so much he set everything on fire. If you'd spent less time screaming at me and more time teaching he'd probably be ok. I am not at fault because he couldn't focus he is. You don't want an enemy of me. I don't remember my parents and I am very sorry I am not in your house like everyone keeps telling me they were but I need to be own person and if that makes you angry then so be it. I cannot help that" he said as she rounded on him practically purple with rage.
"You could ask for a resorting from the hat at any stage. It doesn't have to be the end of the world you know. You can make this all better so quickly. Stop screwing up so damn much. Why in the hell were you not in my house and why was I lumbered with the likes of Weasley?" she cried out in agony as she burst into tears and fled from the room all without giving him any punishment or finishing the lesson. People were highly confused as to what to think of him now.
"Oh Harry why didn't you just let things be? Why did you have to be all awkward? Not only did I not get the house I wanted she's mad you weren't in her house! No one cares that I truly wanted it and am depressed because I'll never be in it now. All anyone ever cares about is the fact that you're not. If I asked for a resorting I probably wouldn't even get it! It's all anyone has talked about since yesterday and I'm tired of it! Thanks for ruining my first damn lesson!" Hermione snapped as she too cried and ran from the room clutching her book bag and things in her hand. Everyone was more stunned at her outburst then McGonagall's as hers had made even less sense.
"Look Harry it's not your fault. I dunno why she was crying for but trust me if she's that mental we don't want her!" Seamus Finnegan shouted out as Minerva once more entered the room looking very stunned and speechless.
"Mr Potter I am sorry. I have always missed your parents and when you were born we'd all fantasize about how you'd be in their house when you grew up. They'd spend hours thinking about what your best subjects would be and how you'd bring the Gryffindor Quidditch team glory year after year. You weren't sorted there and that was so very hard for me to take. I know your parents wouldn't have liked it one bit especially not your father and I feel so guilty. I'm so sorry you didn't end up in their house and further sorry I took it so badly. Please take ten points for Ravenclaw. You're right had I been more focused Mr Weasley wouldn't have behaved in such a foolish manner. As for Miss Granger she has demanded a resorting which will be happening in a moment here in this classroom as it doesn't warrant the whole great hall seeing it!" she said producing the hat as Hermione re-entered the room still crying. It was after all there in the charter that students could request a resorting at any time and as many times as they wanted. The hat was placed on her head from where it promptly shouted for all to hear.
I thought I told you no yesterday. You do not demand anything from the sorting hat. I am afraid I will never be able to sort you anywhere other than Ravenclaw because if I did it would be Slytherin and you wouldn't last ten minutes in that pureblood infested backwards house. You are not to request a resorting again. I will not be forced to comply either. As a sentient being myself I have the right to refuse to resort anyone again and I am exercising it. Get to RAVENCLAW and stay there or get out! The hat snapped shocking everyone. Unfortunately Minerva had seen it do this before and no matter what the student in question did it would not go near their head again much less resort them.
"But why doesn't it understand I just wanted to be as cool as the headmaster. Is it really that bad that I wish to be so like someone that amazing!? Why does everything stupid always happen to me?" she asked crying once more as Minerva looked very suddenly years older than she actually was.
"Miss Granger we cannot always have what we wish. Mr Potter's parents all wished for him to be in my house alas it wasn't meant to be nor was it meant to be forced upon him. You are not meant for my house because you're too smart for it. I am aware I probably shouldn't say that but that is the truth. I have seen your work so far and if it is anything to go by you will be a fine student once you relax. You can still be just as great as the headmaster from any house and as soon as you realise this you'll be fine!" she said as Hermione rushed up to her whispering in her ear as Minerva blushed.
"Yes I see. Well come with me to the hospital wing it's alright. Everyone read chapter two for their homework. Come along!" she said in a soothing tired voice. Hermione had gotten her period that day and had thought she might be dying hence the constant tears and tantrums. She'd not thought she'd live long enough to be as great as him. Over all it had been the most whacky first lesson he'd ever had.
