ONE MORE TIME

Forty-Five: And They Live

It had to be no other way and Joan would blame Sherlock for the accident but as she was currently being rushed to the hospital, and she was in pain. She could be excused for laughing. He had been following a criminal and she had just come out of Tesco getting some biscuits and she was almost taken.

"This is no time to laugh," Sherlock told her as his eyes seemed to be moving around and grabbing at his hair.

"I'm fine," she replied to a small groan.

"Are you okay?" Sherlock asked

"I'm currently going into labor with your child,"

"I am very aware," Sherlock told her, Joan was looking around and she could see the medics holding their laughter. It should not be a laughing matter, but Joan could only have eyes for her husband who for an ex-dragon had been more worried and overly possessive than normal during the pregnancy. Now that it was time he was freaking out.

A Few Months Before

Mycroft stared at Joan who was looking at him with a smile.

"You know now that I am your sister-in-law, I would expect the kidnappings to stop," Joan told him grabbing the fruit that Anthea had brought in for her.

"I am trying to see how you are as Sherlock has not been as forthcoming," Mycroft told her.

"Your brother has decided that I need to be taken care off at all costs and has not left me out of his…" she didn't get to finish as Sherlock slammed the door opened and glared at Mycroft.

"What do you think your doing?" he spat out.

"He just wanted to make sure I was healthy," Joan tells him.

"You couldn't darken our doorstep instead?" Sherlock asked.

"How would I brother since you and Joan have been moving about for the past few months?" Mycroft asked. It was true Sherlock had been frantic and with the help of Gandalf they had been staying in a cabin with Elrond coming to check over Joan. They had finally returned to 221B a few weeks ago.

"I am protecting my wife," Sherlock pouted and sat down. Joan chuckled.

"Well, your son has been more active than normal, so the kidnapping settled him a bit,"

"Son?" Mycroft asked.

"Yes, we found a few days ago," Joan said smiling touching the bump and knowing she had gotten the drop on her brother-in-law and his snooping.

"Now if you are done kidnapping my wife, we need to leave as Joan has an appointment," Sherlock told him.

"You will have to inform Mummy about the gender,"

"My parents already did," Joan told him. "They have tea every two weeks apparently and they keep going to the theater,"

Durin Manor

Molly was getting used to coming home to this new place.

"I'm home," she said and turned to see Dis coming her way.

"Thank goodness your home, go tell your fiancé to get off work," Dis told her. Molly smiled at those words.

"He has been at it since the morning," Molly told her.

"Yes, I have been hearing screaming matches for the entire day," Dis told her. She had gotten used to the woman that had stolen her brother's heart and adored her because she was so shy.

"Well how about we go out Joan is back in town,"

"Really," Dis asked.

"Yes, and I know she needs some female interaction, Sherlock is driving her up the wall,"

"Well, it will be better than listening to Thomas," Dis said with smile. Both went out.

Joan was smiling at her group of friends surrounding her. They were eating lunch and just talking.

"How long is it now?" Ori asked her.

"Just two months left," Joan replied.

"Have you thought of names?" Molly asked.

"Yes, but we are keeping it under wraps," Joan told them, the woman groaned.

"Well at least Sherlock is not being overly protective anymore," Arwen told her.

"Well, we do catch criminals for a living," Joan said. She had been annoyed at the protectiveness until some idiot had decided to come into 221 B and attack them. Now of course it was more difficult to get inside.

"I suppose, now do you have the nursery ready?" Dis asked.

"Yes, curtesy of our parents," Joan said a smile. Sherlock's parents and hers had gone insane decorating the room for the baby.

Present time

Sherlock was walking up and down the corridor when Eric and Charles arrived with his parents.

"Sherlock?" he looked at them and Charles took pity on his son in law.

"Oh, she will be alright," Charles told him.

"Why aren't you in there?" Eric asked.

"Joan, mentioned to come outside," Sherlock told them.

"Well, we can keep you company while Elrond delivers the baby," Charles told him.

"I need to be in there,"

"Well go in there," Eric told him.

"Look at him," Joan whispered touching the little nose. Sherlock was looking at the baby and he was silent. Joan looked up at him and saw that he was feeling everything.

"You have to hold him," Joan told him.

"I..." Sherlock began before Joan passed him over the baby. He was sitting next to her and just looked at him.

"He is going to be a mix of us," he told her.

"People are going to start coming in," Joan said just to receive a kiss from Sherlock.

"Well, I hope we are not interrupting," they looked up to see her parents and his coming in.

"Let us see our Grandson," Mummy Holmes said.

"What is his name?" Charles asked. Sherlock and Joan looked at each other.

"Hamish Liam Holmes," Joan replied.

"Welcome to the family Hamish," Eric said with a smile.

A Few Years Later

"Papa, are you helping Uncle Greg?" the little boy running toward his Father was smiling brightly his curls bouncing all around.

"I am making sure he doesn't destroy the crime scene," Sherlock said with a smile and ruffling his hair.

"Can I go?" he asked with eyes wide that if Sherlock would have been alone, he would have said yes.

"Not yet," the voice that came out made both look to see Joan standing there.

"I want to be like you guys," Hamish told them.

"You still have to study," Joan told him.

"Okay," Hamish said, and she kissed his forehead.

"Now, I believe your grandpa is late," Joan said.

"I get to spend time with Grandpa Eric and Grandpa Charles?" with a bounce on his step.

"Yes," Sherlock said with a raised brow.

"I do not arrive late."

"You arrived just in time," Hamish finished for him.

"That is correct, now let's get going or Charles will be throwing a fit," Eric said with a smile looking at the couple.

"I can hear you," Charles replied.

"Be careful out there,"

"We always are," Joan tells him. As they watch them leave.

"Let's go Joan the game is afoot," Sherlock said with a smile as they run down the stairs.
