Sylvia Sanchez (Suzume) - Ouran High School Wednesday, April 13th
I walked through the halls determined to escape the host club's meeting today. I had a pounding headache from getting drunk alone last night. My mother hadn't come home from Tamaki's again. Just as I thought I was free I was picked up by two strong hands. I resisted with all my might but the hands that grabbed me were like iron rocks. I looked up to see a tall haired boy with spiked hair. "Put me down," I growled.
"Sorry Suzu-can," a light voice responded. I looked down to see a small highschooler. "We have strict orders to take you to the Host Club today."
"Fuck you both, let me down," I hissed.
"No," the boy who carried me said. I raised a brow at his deep tone of voice but made no further oral complaints. I simply settled for trying to wriggle out of his grip. I finally managed to do so as soon as we were outside of some gated garden. I blinked as I saw all the sakura trees in bloom. It actually looked quite beautiful.
"Excellent job Honey-senpai, Mori-senpai," Tamaki gushed. I glared at him as soon as I was put on my two feet at last by my forceful kicking.
"Figures you'd send someone to drag me here," I huffed in annoyance. I dusted myself from their touch and looked around. There were lots of empty tables and chairs with pastries being brought out by a male student.
"Don't say such cruel things, princess," Tamaki pleaded.
"Stop calling me princess," I growled. "My name is Sanchez Suzume NOT princess."
"Who is she boss?" a mischievous auburn-haired boy asked. I blinked.
"She is the daughter of one of my maids," he explained. "She's a commoner just like Haruhi."
"So you brought us another toy," a second one commented. They were twins it seemed. And very annoying ones, I thought to myself.
"I'm no one's pet," I spat in disgust at the notion. "What do you want now Tamaki?"
"Mommy, Suzume is being rude to Daddy," he cried to Ootori-san.
"Remember what I told you Suzume," he smiled sweetly. I glared and crossed my arms.
"So what was the point in bringing me to a stupid host club Mommy," I grinned in delight at his scowl.
"To welcome you to Ouran since I didn't give you the grand tour on your first day," Tamaki told me with hopeful puppy eyes. I was immune as my dislike of the blonde could hardly be contained. Tamaki was always used to getting his own way like any other stupid rich kid. It was sickening just how spoiled he could be.
"I have homework to do," I semi lied as I hardly did any homework other than my math work as my classes were painfully easy.
"I figured you'd say so," Ootori remarked. I have a special solitary table for you to work as we get ready during the next half hour for the flower viewing. When the guests come you can select a host on the house."
"Oh joy," I said sarcastically.
"Sit with Taka and me," the little host whispered into my ear. I blinked at how quickly he did that before returning to his original place, perched on his friend's shoulder.
After this, the excitement about me seemed to quiet down temporarily and I worked on my math homework silently. Hiro called me in the middle to angrily complain that he came to pick me up and I never showed up. I was going to be forced to take the bus home today.
"What's your name?" a voice asked me. I realized it was the boy who was setting the tables earlier.
"Sanchez Suzume," I replied.
"I'm Fujioka Haruhi," he introduced himself. "I'm sorry for their rude behavior toward you earlier. Tamaki-senpai and Hikaru-san and Kaoru-san can be a bit much."
"So the twins are named Hikaru and Kaoru then," I mumbled to myself.
"Hmm?"
"Nothing Fujioka-san," I waved him off.
"You can call me Haruhi," he told me.
"You can call me Suzume then," I told him with a slight smile. I appreciated the effort in apologizing for the other idiots in this club.
"Sure Suzume-senpai," he smiled back. "Kyoya sent me to ask about what host you want to request." I glanced up and realized that the host club was now filled with guests. I watched a few scenes occur between Tamaki and his guests with displeasure before looking back to Haruhi.
"What's the name of the two boys who brought me here?" I asked.
"The blonde is Honey-senpai. He's a third year. And then Mori-senpai is his cousin. He's also a third year."
"The twins?"
"Hitachiin Hikaru and Kaoru."
"I'll request Honey-senpai and Mori-senpai," I stated quickly after that.
"Let me walk you there," he offered.
"Thanks," I nodded. I put my books away in my backpack and followed Haruhi to where Honey and Mori's guests were. The girls glanced at me but didn't say a word.
"Yay Suzu-chan is with us Taka," Honey cheered when I was seated. I gave him a tight-lipped smile.
"Ah," Mori-senpai returned. I glanced at the tall senior with interest because of his immense strength at being able to hold me down the whole walk over here. He had a dark blue kimono on with black pants.
"Let's move on to me making tea for you lovely ladies," Honey gushed eagerly. I got out of the chair along with the other girls and followed them to a spot on the grass with a blanket laid out and things to prepare tea. Honey began to mix the tea and it was evident that he was overdoing it because it was splattering outside of the cup. Everyone including myself was at a loss for words. The general question was who should tell him he was losing all the tea.
"Misukuni," Mori-senpai said. "You've lost too much."
The blonde senior looked ready to break into tears. "I'll take it," one of the girls quickly offered.
"How did you know this amount was perfect? You're so amazing Honey-kun." the other young lady declared. I rolled my eyes as Honey perked up after their compliments. I suddenly felt a hand on my shoulder and realized it was Mori-senpai. He brought a finger to his lips which surprised me. I didn't respond in any way except ducking out of his touch.
We enjoyed our pastries after the tea incident. The girls asked Honey questions and he eagerly responded to them all. I wondered why Mori-senpai didn't talk at all. He was just observing quietly. I pondered about asking myself for an explanation but decided against it. It would seem like I was very invested in the host which wasn't the impression I wanted to leave.
Eventually, I glanced around the room and observed the other hosts. Tamaki was very outright flirtatious making various young ladies swoon. I nearly gagged watching him. Tamaki wasn't attractive in the slightest in my humble opinion. He was spoiled rotten to the core like most of the other student body in this school. The Hitaciin twins were flirting with each other which grossed me out. How could you fall for incestuous love?
When our time was up I walked over to where Kyoya was. "Can I go home now that time's up?" I asked him.
"Yes for now that is enough," he responded. "Tamaki also wanted to invite you to the host club ball this Friday."
"We'll provide you with a suitable dress," the twins chimed in.
"No thanks," I answered blandly.
"You don't have a choice," Kyoya stated dryly.
"I do have a choice. Fire my mom for all I care but leave me alone,"I bluffed.
"But Suzume-san," Tamaki pleaded, joining the conversation. "It'll be lots of fun for a young lady such as yourself."
"I said no so give it a rest Tamaki. It's not like you actually care about how I'm doing."
"Please come Suzu-chan," Honey-senpai begged wrapping himself around me.
"Ah," grunted his taller cousin. I blinked in surprise and cursed. I was beginning to have a soft spot for Honey's size and stature. He seemed like a small child instead of a grown high schooler.
"The dress better be long-sleeved," I warned.
The twins cheered along with Tamaki. I rolled my eyes and sighed.
Mariana Lorena - Ouran High School Wednesday, April 13th
I ran a finger through my hair and sighed. The students were quietly working on their English exercises I had given them. I glanced at the familiar small blonde boy. He glanced up at me and smiled cheerfully before diving back into his work. I didn't have a chance to react but I was amused. Haninozuka definitely put a lot of effort into his work, scoring nearly perfect on everything. All of the students had a long way to go with pronunciation though which was probably due to a lack of native English speakers teaching them.
I glanced down at my phone and reopened the text I received yesterday.
Mariana, I miss you. We need to talk. Please call me or text me. I love you. My fingers danced over the delete key before I simply exited my text messages. I angrily messaged my sister last night about giving my number to my ex-fiance but she simply laughed it off.
I jumped at the sound of the bell and recollected myself as the students began to hand in their worksheets. "Good work," I told them. The students all filed out of the classroom. I put all the papers into a file and grabbed my belongings. I sighed and thought back to the text message. It was truly pointless to try and rekindle something being so far away and after everything that happened.
My legs carried me towards where the faculty meeting would be held. I felt a bit annoyed about having to do two faculty meetings a week but at least I wasn't alone. I sat next to Mishi-san and paid close attention as Chairman Suoh began the meeting.
"I want to discuss the schedules for our observations this week," Chairman Suoh began. "We will also be preparing for when middle school students come to visit the campus in a month." Papers with rotation schedules were handed out. I glanced at it and sighed seeing that next week I would be observed. I hated observations to the core, it was so much pressure. "We'll be providing feedback on student engagement, lesson effectiveness, and curriculum development," Suoh continued.
He went over common mistakes from last year and overall goals for the faculty. I took notes in English on his words and glanced over to Mishi-san who was also writing things down. He handed out more paperwork on the Spring Visit coming up. I read over the words and frowned seeing that I would need to use a translator for some of the words but I got the gist of it. We would have to make a good impression on incoming students.
At the end of the meeting, Chairman Suoh said, "Lorena-san if you'd stay a moment."
"Yes sir," I nodded.
"I'll see you at the elementary building," Mishi-san whispered to me. I gave her a thumbs up and waited quietly as the other teachers left. Some of them glanced at me curiously but I ignored it.
"How did it go yesterday with Sanchez Suzume?" Suoh asked me.
"It was fine," I answered with a sigh. "We didn't talk a whole lot, I wanted things to be a simple introduction for the first day."
He chuckled and nodded. "I'm sure you'll make excellent progress with her. I've heard from Kagame-san that you already received a gift from a student. You must be doing a great job."
"Ah," I smiled in embarrassment. "I was surprised by that but yes I am enjoying teaching here so far."
"If you manage to get Sanchez up to par I'll hire you on the spot and finance your college," he grinned cheekily.
"Huh?" I muttered in surprise.
"Have a wonderful afternoon Lorena-san," he beamed sending me off. I grabbed my stuff and shuffled out of the classroom. I bit my lip as I walked down the halls. Having my entire college education paid for was beyond a dream but would I really be able to help a former gang member? And not only that but Sanchez had experienced a lot of trauma in her past. I thought back to her file and the other articles I was able to find online. It would take a lot more than what I felt capable of to really make sure she succeeded here at Ouran.
"Is everything alright Lorena-san?" Mishi san asked me bringing me back from my reverie.
"Yeah," I told her with a false smile. "I just had a dumb message from my ex-boyfriend last night."
"Ah the one who cheated on you?" she questioned.
"Yep," I sighed with a small laugh. "He asked my sister for my number."
"Hmm," she hummed. "It's for the best that you ignore it."
"Oh, I will don't worry about that."
"What did Chairman Suoh want?"
"Nothing special," I shrugged. "He just asked how the meeting with Sanchez went."
"How did it go?" Kagame-san asked butting in. I jumped in surprise that he was there. He should be in the high school building.
"It was fine," I said trying not to be annoyed by Kagame-san's hovering.
"She's a very charming student," he gushed. I sweatdropped unsure that charming was the right word. She certainly wasn't stand-offish but she wasn't exactly welcoming either. The way she flew out of the library was a clear sign that she was only doing the mentoring thing because it was forced upon her.
