-Thomas lay on the twin bed of the guest bedroom at Mrs. Marlena Evans' home. The whispers coming from the living room stirs his heart with curiousity. The adults were talking, and Thomas senses they were talking about his parents.

What were they saying? Did something happened to Mommy and Daddy?

Thomas remembers he was in the middle of a Nintendo Switch gameplay of Mario Kart 8 DX before bed, when Uncle EJ and Ms. Belle rushed in and asked for Charlotte.

We're leaving the house kids, Uncle EJ said.

Where?

To my mother's home, Ms. Belle Brady said. She was a friend of Uncle EJ. You know Mrs. Marlena Evans right? My mother?

Thomas thought, a quick stop before visiting Grandma and Grandpa in Boston tomorrow? They didn't reply.

Where was Mommy and Daddy? No response.

Maybe they had some things to take care of. Mommy and Daddy were very busy people.

But the whispering he is hearing from the adults shortly after their babysitter settled them down to sleep in is making him nervous. Something else has happened to Mommy and Daddy.

He looks at the time-11:30 PM. He has never gone past his bedtime before, which was 10 PM.

-Charlotte: Tommy?

-Thomas: Hm?

-Charlotte: Are you sleeping?

-Thomas: (pauses) No.

Pause between the siblings.

-Thomas: Are you sleeping?

-Charlotte: (pauses) No?

-Thomas: (laughs) You lyin'.

-Charlotte: Am not!

-Thomas: (laughs) Yea you do.

-Charlotte: I'm tellin' Mommy!

Thomas stops laughing and lets out a sigh.

-Charlotte: You not sayin' anything.

-Thomas: No.

-Charlotte: You always say something when I say I'm tellin' Mommy.

Thomas stays quiet.

-Charlotte: What's wrong Tommy?

Thomas shifts to his side and lays eyes on his baby sister who lay on another twin bed next to him. Her big bright eyes looks at him with curiousity.

-Thomas: I think something bad happened to Mommy and Daddy.

Her big bright eyes reflects his worry.

-Charlotte: What? What makes you think that Tommy?

-Thomas: I don't know. I think... (glances over at the closed door) I think the adults are whispering and talking and sayin something bad happened at home.

-Charlotte: I don't want bad things to happen at home.

-Thomas: Me neither.

-Charlotte: Tommy? What if something really bad did happen at home?

Thomas shifts and sits up on his bed.

-Thomas: Can I tell you a secret?

Charlotte shifts and sits up on her bed also.

-Thomas: I met the Tooth Fairy in the basement when we were playing hide and seek.

Charlotte gasps.

-Charlotte: Really? Is she super nice? Did she give you a dollar? (cocks head on one side) did you lose a tooth?

-Thomas: No. No. and No.

-Charlotte: Huh?

-Thomas: The Tooth Fairy is a he.

-Charlotte: Huh? Is that possible?

-Thomas: Yeah. And he was not nice. He was very demanding. and he was talking too much. And he did not give me a dollar.

Charlotte blinks at Thomas, then laughs heartily.

-Thomas: Shh!

Charlotte puts her hands over her mouth, but continues to laugh quietly.

-Charlotte: Sorry.

-Thomas: What? What's so funny?

-Charlotte: You didn't get a dollar because you did not lose a tooth.

-Thomas: Oh! Okay. Well, one day I will lose a tooth and I will go down the basement and make him give me a dollar.

-Charlotte: (laughs) Okay. Well, my front tooth is getting loosey. So, when Mommy or Daddy pull it out for me, can you have the Tooth Fairy take it, so that he can give me a dollar?

-Thomas: (smiles) Okay, Charlotte. I will take your tooth to the Tooth Fairy. It's a promise.

Thomas settles back to his bed and so does Charlotte.

-Charlotte: Tommy?

-Thomas: Yes Charlotte?

-Charlotte: Mommy and Daddy are gonna be okay right?

-Thomas: Yeah. They are going to be okay. (turns to Charlotte) Even if they not here with us right now, they will always be with us (pats hand in heart) in here.

Charlotte smiles back at her brother.

-Charlotte: Yeah. Just like the Tooth Fairy. He is always watching.

Charlotte slowly closes her eyes and drifts off to sleep. Thomas lay back down in bed and stares at the ceiling

-Thomas: Yes. Always.
