Chapter 2: Welcome To Summerville

They finally reached the infamous hit town known as Summerville as Phoebe just can not wait to surprise John first thing tomorrow morning. Now, she has to wait until they unload and unpack before settling. But first, they had to find the house that their grandfather had left them and hope he has an insurance policy. They used Trevor's GPS on his phone to help find the house and soon since his phone is on low battery. So far they were driving away from the small town itself and found themselves with farm fields left and right.

"And there it is." Trevor pointed out before putting his back in his pocket.

"Home Sweet Home," Callie said when seeing the house.

Phoebe looked out the left window to see their new official permanent home. Their new place is a farmer's house with good acres of land with nothing growing. Nothing but medium-sized half-brown grass. Upon entering the entrance they saw handmade signs and debris in the front. They saw bold yellow painted words with a warning and a Bible verse.

"Huh, you do not see that every day," commented Phoebe while eyeing the debris fence.

"No kidding," responded Callie when driving down the drive path.

Once they reached the house and parked the car, they exited the vehicle and approached the front door. Callie checked to see if the doorknob is unlocked so they can start settling in. Unfortunately, the door is locked and the caregiver is nowhere in sight which resulted in Collie telling Phoebe to break the lock. Phoebe used her locksmith skills as she grabbed her tools and picked the lock.

"This is breaking and entering," said Phoebe, picking the lock with no struggle.

"It is not breaking and entering when this is our new home, Phoebe," said Callie, waiting patiently for the door to be open.

"Well, if you ever play Grand Theft Auto then this convinces you otherwise," commented Trevor, checking to see how much battery life he has left on his phone.

"Almost got it. There." Phoebe break the lock and pulled her two little helpers out of the key insert.

Opening the door and getting inside the three can see that the inside of the house is exactly what the outside of the farm looks like. Ancient. Ancient as seeing things that you would expect to see in a museum. Strange objects are everywhere as far as the eyes can see. An old fat tv set in the living room along with tons of papers of whatever it is on them. But what stands out are the stacked books. Books that were stacked up were too high and too neat. Which impressed and surprised Phoebe.

"Who stacks books like boxes?." Trevor examines one of the stacks before looking at Phoebe. "Do you have any idea what would do this?"

Phoebe looked at those stacked books again before looking back at Trevor. "No one. No one would be able to stack books like this much less be able to stack them in order from accurate size."

"You don't say." Trevor smiled at his baby sister. "I bet John has the answer."

Phoebe folded her arms and smirked. "Yeah, John would have a logical answer about it. As a matter of fact, he once told me about the only person that would do some wild book stacking is the Gray Lady."

"The Gray Lady?." Callie approached her kids after done looking in the dining room.

Trevor started chuckling. "Phoebe please do not tell me that John believes in the dead old head Liberian that goes by the name of the Gray Lady, who haunts New York City's public library?."

Phoebe sighed as she too did not believe it herself. "Yes, he does, Trevor. I remember him saying that the Gray Lady was the very first ghost that the Ghostbusters had encountered. He told me during that time they did not have their...what was it again?. Ah, yeah, he said they did not have their proton packs or traps to capture the ghost."

"Care to explain a bit more about what John told you when the Ghostbusters meet the so-called ghost in the library?. In detail." Callie asked when grabbing a seat on the couch.

"We do have time in hearing about your boyfriend's obsessed information about the so-called Ghostbusters," said Trevor, sitting down beside his mom on the couch.

Phoebe sat down in the old armchair and propped her feet on the footstool. Even though she loves John to death she still dislikes his interest in the paranormal and ghosts, much less believing and knowing absolutely everything about the Ghostbusters themselves.

"Well..." Phoebe began to tell the given detailed information that her boyfriend told her when he was giving her a foot massage that night on her bed, as the two were having a sleepover at her home.

"Ha!." Callie laughed a little after hearing the shared story. "There is no proof of a ghost librarian roaming the public library to this today."

"Yeah, and that eyewitness from the retired librarian was probably suffering from delusion." laughed Trevor.

Phoebe chuckled as she too agreed with what her mom and older brother is saying. "That was exactly what I told John. He told me I was in strong denial. Then he told me that they returned to settle the score with the ghost librarian and managed to capture her with the help of their rookie Ghostbuster."

"Seriously?. A rookie Ghostbuster?." asked Trevor, in doubt.

"What is so special about the rookie that John informed you about?." asked Callie, feeling entertained.

Phoebe thinks back to what John told her about the official rookie of the Ghostbuster. He told her that this guy is the reason why the four busters were still alive and went to great wild crazy lengths into saving New York and the world itself from some occult architect.

"John said that the guy whose name is Bryan Welsh was the Ghostbusters experimental equipment technician, whose job was to test out untested equipment for them on the field. He says that in 1991 they were originally supposed to have a look at the National History Museum's new exhibit until their secretary had radioed them. Saying that there was a massive disturbance at the public library." said Phoebe, scratching her head to help remember the other thing about the situation.

"He mentions that they were trying to obtain a book from the Gray Lady that would help with their investigation. Something called the Gozerian Codex. Sounds like a bunch of horse crap to me, but I will tell you the story details he told me that he and anyone else who still remembers the Ghostbusters, believes that it is none fictional." said Phoebe, starting to tell the tale to kill some time.

Trevor shook his head after hearing Phoebe. "When I see John, I tell him that the Ghostbusters are full of shit."

"Good luck with that one, T." Phoebe placed her feet off the footstool. "John will still be in denial and still defend the Ghostbusters no matter what anyone says or thinks."

"Well, Phoebe you may not like what John thinks about the foolishness of ghost activity with little to no evidence of anything supernatural." Callie got up from the couch and was satisfied with being entertained. "But it is one of the things you love about him. Yes or No?."

Phoebe could not help but blush. Smiling, Phoebe can not deny one of the things that she loves about her boyfriend. The two can click. And she just can not wait to see him physically again. After resting a little bit and getting ready to go and unload the car and start unpacking, they were stopped and distracted by wild shaking around them. It did not take long for them to comprehend what is going on and needed to find shelter.

"Earthquake!." called Trevor, trying to keep his balance.

"Get underneath the table quick!." Callie spoke before guiding Phoebe to the dining room.

As soon as all three got underneath the table and held on to dear life the earthquake started to calm down. Phoebe, her mom, and Trevor did not dare to leave from underneath the table until it is safe to do so.

"I'm guessing the papers in the mail did not tell you about Summerville having frequent earthquakes," Trevor asked his mom while holding on to one of the legs of the table.

Callie looked at Trevor. "No, they did not. It does not matter since we can not afford to relocate or anything."

Phoebe looked at her mom with hope. "Depending on how much money that grandfather has left us in his insurance policy, right?."

"What insurance policy?."

All three looked at each other before getting up out from underneath the table to see an older woman near the door that she recently opened. She looked at the three and had a good idea who they are and smiled at them.

"Oh, you must be his living relatives, yes?. Oh, my name is Janine. Janine Melnitz. I am the caregiver of this place." She said having her hand out to shake.

Callie smiled and shake her hand. "Yes, we are. Uhm, you questioned about the insurance policy. Why?."

Janine chuckled about this as if she told her a humorous joke. "I told that man that you are going to ask that question."

"So you are saying that my grandfather did not invest in an insurance policy?. Is that what we are hearing?." asked Trevor, in utter disbelief.

"Well, kiddo, unfortunately, yes." Janine adjusted her glasses while walking forward inside the house. "Your grandfather did not invest in any life insurance or any policies when he was alive. That is due to him not having any money to invest in."

Phoebe had a blank facial expression but is feeling some type of way. "So you are telling us that my grandfather who is my mom's dad is completely broke?."

"Broke as a joke. He invested what he has left in his bank account to get the things he needed," said Janine, with a sad smile.

Callie rubbed her hair in stress and had a disbelief look on her face. "That is some bullshit!. So he just left us this farm and that is it?."

Janine nodded. "Pretty much and what is on this property is yours. And between you and me, you guys had hit the jackpot based on his old professional occupation. Man, how I miss the good old days. Now, I just live off my social security checks and just visit old friends. Let alone go on a curse every so often with my husband who once worked for him and the other three as their personal accountant and tax attorney."

"I see." Callie managed to calm herself down. "During the remaining time of my father's life, what exactly did you do for him?."

Janine shrugged her shoulders. "I was the one who paid to install solar panels in this house since he can not keep up with the electric bill. So you guys do not need to worry about paying that bill because the sun is free. As for the house itself, it belongs to your family years ago which they abandoned. The bill that you have left to pay is the water bill. You have to get affordable house insurance since your father did not get one when was alive. Here is my number in case you guys want to talk for comfort or anything. None money wise of course."

Janine pulled out a card that contains her number and hand it to Phoebe who put it in her pocket. After saying goodbye she got into her car and drove out of Summerville and headed back home to New York. Callie managed to think on the positive side of things as she helped Phoebe and Trevor to unload the car. After taking their personal belongings and picking which room they wanted, they unpacked their things and headed out to go find some food to eat in town for tonight. They pulled up at a drive-in and indoor burger joint called Spinners Roller Hop.

Trevor took the opportunity to go inside and apply for a job to help out their situation while Callie ordered their food. Phoebe looked at everyone who was hanging out, talking amongst themselves, and just eating in their cars or at the tables. She received her food as soon as the waitress had rolled up her skates with the tray of food. Phoebe added some mayonnaise to her burger before taking a bite but stopped when noticing a familiar black boy. Seeing him at one of the tables eating and hanging out with a boy in front of him and laughing at the person's joke.

Phoebe felt her heart beating fast as she started to smile. "Mom, I will be over there."

Exiting the car she approached the black boy behind him and did what came naturally to her. She licked the back of his neck and got a funny reaction.

"Yo, hey?!." John got up to turn to face the person responsible and can not believe who it was. "P...Phoebe?."

"Surprise!." Phoebe said with great happiness with such emotion as she did not hesitate to hug her strong boyfriend.

John did not hesitate as well as he hugged his girlfriend back. He missed hugging Phoebe so much. He took the moment to sniff her hair as he loves the scent of her lemon-lime shampoo. The two broke the hug and leaned to kiss one another. The two made out on the spot and ignore the boy-teen workers of the restaurant hooting and howling at them to tease. The two broke the kiss and looked at each other with love in their eyes while holding each other.

"I thought you, your mom, and Trevor were moving to the house that your grandfather has left for you guys?," John asked while playing with Phoebe's hair.

Phoebe giggled. "We have and it is here, John. Our home is here in Summerville. We can go back to being together in person again."

"Oh, sweet." John was happy to hear this as he set her in the table seat and joined her. "Podcast this is my girlfriend, Phoebe whom I have been telling you about when we first met, let alone seeing her on the video chat."

Podcast looked at Phoebe and had his hand out. "It is awesome to finally meet you, Phoebe. Welcome to Summerville."

Phoebe shakes his hand with a smile. "Thanks. It is nice to finally meet you in person and not on the video chat."

Podcast chuckled. "Yeah, me too."

John shared his triple burger and fries with Phoebe who kissed him as a thank you before taking a bite of his chocolate blizzard ice cream. The three talked and enjoyed the night while Callie and Trevor watched and smiled at this before resuming eating their burgers and fries. Things were slowly starting to settle in.
