Spyro Bridge Across Worlds Remake

The Lone Defender
Cyril dove down more after blasting five more sets of Dreadwings, yet the swarm kept on coming. He needed to focus on the ships at hand rather than the flying beasts, but that proved to be a challenge. He knew that he couldn't utilize his blizzard ability, but he could do something else. It was a risky procedure as he would be in range of cannon fire, but he would be able to do more damage to the ships directly.
As he dove within cannon range, he created a very large ice spike in the water that tore a large hole into the side of the ship causing it to sink. He pulled up as he heard the sound of cannon fire as he went back up to battle against the Dreadwings. He took down another three sets of Dreadwings before going back for the next ship. Cyril knew that it was unlikely he would survive this battle, but at least he would take down as many ships as he could. He managed to escape once more after sinking the second ape ship, but the shrieks of from the Dreadwings was getting worse as one nearly got him hit by cannon fire.
"Sir we just lost two ships in our fleet." The crew from one of the ships spoke up.
"Blast that dragon, send out the archer squadron to take it down!" The ape captain shouted.
"Ai, Ai sir the dragon will not get out of here alive!" The crew replied.
As they signaled the next squadron of Dreadwings to ascend to take on the dragon, Cyril took down two more ships and another twelve sets of Dreadwings.
Cyril had taken several blasts from the Dreadwings and a couple of cuts from them, but he still managed to stay airborne. As he noticed the next set of Dreadwings ascend he groaned. "Ah great that is the last thing I need. Archers on Dreadwing back, well this battle just got more deadly."
He focused more of his blasts on the archers before diving back to attack the next ship. Cyril had to shift left and right to avoid the arrows being shot at him as he ice spiked his fifth ship. While most missed him, a few wound up sticking in him.
He shrugged it off as he decided to take on the sixth ship which he wound up spiking as well, while avoiding the blasts from cannon fire as he ascended again. He had quite a few arrows in his wings and back, but he wasn't going to let that stop him as he blasted the non archer type Dreadwings before going after the archers again. He didn't want the melee fighters to get too numerous. He managed to take down two more ships, but the arrows were beginning to take a toll on him.
"Sir we are down eight ships, but the dragon appears to be more sluggish now!" The crew spoke up.
"Excellent perhaps the Terrablade squadron can finish them off." The captain replied.
"I wouldn't advise that sir, some of them are clearly deranged." The crew warned.
"I don't care, I want that dragon taken out of the sky!" The captain shouted.
"But sir…" The crew warned.
"Just do it now!" The captain shouted.
"Very well sir, but its your funeral." The crew replied shaking their head.
Cyril managed to destroy three more ships bringing his total ship kills up to eleven. He was literally covered almost everywhere with arrows and was leaking blood, his wings had many arrows in them which made flying difficult. He needed to rest and heal, but he chose to fight on. The villagers were counting on him and he didn't want to let them down. As he went after the twelfth ship, he heard the sounds of hyena laughter. Cyril groaned at the thought of fighting these freaks now. Its was bad enough fighting them uninjured and he had to deal with them now with all his wounds.
The Terrablade squadron was like a lab experiment gone bad, these were apes who had become hybrid animals made from hyenas, wombats, and eye eyes. They were really skilled fighters and worst of all they could use a dragon's own element against them. One of the apes launched a fury of fire against Cyril.
"Ahh hot, hot, hot, hot!" Cyril shrieked in pain as one of his wings was on fire.
He managed to hold steady enough to sink another ship with his ice powers before diving into the water. The water cooled off the fire, but now he had to deal with cannon balls.
Most of them did miss, but a few destroyed his scales causing him to tumble back into the water again. He managed to pull out again and used a more powerful ice bomb to blow most of the Dreadwings out of the sky. It also frosted a lot of the ships and knocked down some of the mainsails. Cyril didn't like using it as it since it required a lot of elemental breath to use, but at least now he had a bit more breathing room. Unable to change direction a few ships collided with each other tearing small holes into the wood frame.
"Grrr blast that stupid dragon! He took out most of the Terrablade squadron with that attack!" The ship captain shouted.
"Not all sir, I count about eight left. Plus he is leaking quite a lot of blood now. He won't last much longer." The crew replied.
"Very good and finally we will be rid of that pesky dragon Cyril for good!" The ape captain shouted.
Cyril managed to take down two more ships as his vision began to waver from the loss of blood. He knew that his time was drawing to a close and that he would only have enough power for one more blast. He decided to go after one of the biggest ships as a grand finale. He moved left and right to avoid most of the shots, but a few managed to score causing him tumble into the water with a splash. Yet despite that set back and missing a few more scales and blood draining from him he pulled himself out of the water again as defiant as ever. When he was just a few inches away from the big ship, cannon fire shredded his wings and did a lot damage to his body because of the more powerful cannons that were there. Before he sank below the ocean waves he had a smile on his face as he managed to sink the main battle cruiser with one last ice spike. His great battle would go down as legend and people would one day see him as less of a monster but a great fighter who gave his all.
"The battle is finally over, the dragon is now gone!" The crew spoke up.
"Excellent, now that Cyril is out of the way we can finally take back Munitions Forge!" The ape captain smirked.
(Author's notes: I have to say this one of the best chapters that I have written in quite a while. I feel that I have set up the scene quite well in Cyril fighting on his own against impossible odds as a true legend. One of the nice things about this part of the story is that it adds quite a great deal of tension to the battle.
I enjoy creating dynamic pieces like this as it adds quite a great deal more depth to the original story.)
