"Let go," I mumbled in my godfather's tight embrace. He did.
"Sorry, it was a lot to wake you up and break the seal."
"From my inability to go back outside, I'd say you didn't break it entirely."
"We woke your consciousness up, you should say 'thanks'," Tobirama snarled at me. I actually looked ashamed and got up.
"Of course, sorry. Thank you for helping." He seemed taken back. "I know I don't do it often, but the situation is too bad for me to go in a screaming match with you." He pursed his lips and nodded, accepting my apology. "So?"
"You fought against Kakashi and his team." I frowned at oji-chan. "Nidaime-sama managed to get in control so there was no real wounded and he used my kunai to send Sasuke a message, but it was exhausting."
"Possessing my body usually requires a lot of you, so with a puppet seal it's even worst," I commented idly. "Thanks Tobirama." He waved me off and I walked past him.
They had like a window from where they'd see and hear everything from my point of view. I usually just needed to think about waking up to go back to the real world when I'd be there.
I stretched out my hands and touched the window, trying to force my way out.
"Okay, it's hard, you've got my respect guys," I muttered. Eventually, an image appeared on the glass. I widened my eyes. "Shit, am I really giving Itachi a run for his money?"
"Someone else you think invincible?" I shrugged at the Second.
"Itachi and Sasuke had their surgeries recently, they probably can't use their eyes like they wish they could." I pursed my lips at Hashirama's words.
"Makes sense, but Itachi used his Susanoo and Mangekyo, I'm still flattered." I took a deep breath when I saw her making a water clone beneath Itachi and use it as a marker.
I kneed him in the face and gritted my teeth, my hands clenching on the glass.
Suddenly, I was outside. I took a deep breath and raised my left arm toward the seal on my forehead but my right hand grabbed it. I clenched my teeth, forcing with my left hand, but I was sent back in my mind. Oji-chan caught me before I fell, meters away from the glass. I blinked in shock.
"The hell?"
"Ushio is good?" Minato said with a nervous smile. I glared at nothing and jumped on my feet, stomping toward the glass.
I put my hands on it and saw Itachi's conflicted eyes as he had a kunai on my neck. I...I didn't want to die, but I made him promise me to kill me immedi…
"NO!" I yelled in horror when the second he doubted was enough for me to turn his kunai against him and dived it in his chest. "LET ME OUT!" There was a burst of energy coming from me, that pushed the three Kage away.
"As you wish." I looked up, above the glass, and paled.
There was the face of the Shinigami. Purple demonic face, sharp jagged teeth, long shaggy white hair, two small horns emerging from it and bright, yellow eyes. The rest of his body emerged from behind the glass and I stretched out my left hand. He...it grinned and took it.
I felt the seal snapping, like something else in the Shinigami seal, and I was back in the real world. I was in front of Itachi.
"Itachi?" I whispered in horror.
"You're...so annoying to...to fight against…" he stuttered, clearly in pain and struggling to utter a few words.
"Itachi-san!" Sakura screamed, running toward him.
I jumped back and grabbed my head, a tear running down my cheek as I faced the ground. I...Itachi, I…
I stabbed him in the chest!
I raised my head and caught his eyes. I shot him a tearful look and took off.
I…
I…
Dad would pay.
I turned left, my feet leaving solid ground for the lake.
"Nee-chan!?" I turned my head to look at Naruto with wide eyes. He widened his own eyes. "Shit, Nee-chan!" He ran after me.
"Stay back!" I screamed at him.
"Screw you!" he yelled back, running after me.
We ran past Kakashi and Yamato. Kakashi ran after us as well and I turned left again once in front of the entrance of the Tower. It was a big, stone door, wide opened. I ran through it, Naruto behind me, but I heard the door closing behind us and Kakashi yelling something. There were stairs going up in a circle, along the walls and I sped up.
There were clan's symbols illuminated by the light of the candles and torch on the walls, but it was old and gloomy. I stopped on a landing probably near the middle of the Tower and blew the stone doors opened.
All of the torch along the walls were on. My dad had his back to me, staring at the...machine in front of us. While the side of the room I was at had a straight wall, the rest had the same circular shape as the rest of the Tower. My father was probably two hundreds meters away from me, in front of a console. Behind it was four clear pillar going up and down. On each side of the console were railings as behind them it was void.
Dad turned around.
"What the hell do you want!?" I screamed at him, fists clenched by my sides in anger. He pointed at himself.
"Who, me? You're going to see in a second. Thanks by the way, I couldn't have dreamed of a better outcome!" I blinked and felt seals being broken on my body.
I crumbled on the floor in pain. My right side was burning and aching like never before. I bit my bottom lip to keep myself from moaning in pain. Not only that, but my sternum was aching as well where Itachi elbowed me, it hurt to breath.
And the exhaustion.
"Nee-chan!" Naruto knelt next to me and lifted my upper body. "Nee-chan, it's really...the seal's gone and…" I shook my head when he was about to pull a scroll from his hip holster. "You need it!"
"Behind you…" I whispered weakly. He blinked and tensed at the cackle behind him.
Naru gently put me back down and turned around, Kurama's chakra slowly escaping in the air in invisible waves.
"What do you want bastard?" he growled dangerously.
"The key." Naru stopped moving forward as my father talked. "You see Naruto, eighteen years ago I was put in a stasis seal in that very room before the Eien Hansen was sealed. Entrance, weapon, all of it. So I need the key to unseal it." His eyes found Naru's and he grinned, pointing at him. I could feel Naru tensing. "And you, dear nephew, you brought me the key on a silver platter when you followed my daughter!"
"How…"
"You're still insane!" I spat at my dad. "Naru, get out of here, now!" Dad slammed his foot on the ground, black fuin symbols shining blue around Naru.
Adamantine Chains wrapped around his legs, arms, neck and waist and brought him to his knee while he growled, trying to resist. Then, two ropes of fuin symbols rose from the floor and crawled on my cousin, slipping under his top to reach his seal.
I think.
"See Naruto." Dad moved aside, showing a huge seal on the console. It was dark brown. Dad tapped his finger next to it. "This seal is sealing off the weapon. It's a blood seal." Oh no. "If it had been made by an Uzumaki, I wouldn't have an issue. Thing is it was not made just by any Uzumaki. It was not made just by an Uzumaki. No, this blood seal will break with Uzumaki blood, Namikaze blood and Kyuubi's chakra." Dad looked coldly at Naru. "And you, Naruto, happen to have the three in you." I crawled to be able to look at Naru.
He was shocked.
"What's Namikaze blood?" Dad raised a brow.
"Seriously? You didn't know Kushina was your mom, now you're telling you don't know…" He sighed. "Namikaze Minato, it was your father's name. He also happened to be the Fourth Hokage. Kushina, your mom, was the Kyuubi's jinchuuriki and used some of its chakra to make sure the seal would not be broken by anyone." Naru froze.
"Wha...the Fourth was...my dad?" He looked at me in confusion and I looked down, nodding against the floor.
Dad burst into laughter.
"Basically, you're the only person in the world who can unseal that damn Tower Naruto, and you came running right into it!" He bent on his knees, still laughing. "Oh God, I can't...Konoha's secrecy is so fucking funny!" He straightened up after long seconds and wiped a tear. "Seriously, I can think of a reason or two they wouldn't tell you who your parents were but...I mean, hello, of course it's gonna be known one day, might as well control it or it will be used against you." He snorted, trying not to laugh again. "I almost feel sorry for you. I always wondered why you had your mom's last name and I thought it was maybe because Minato got himself a lot of enemies during the last war." He shook his head. "Let's go back to business."
"Akane." I frowned and failed to get up, Dad casually lifting Naruto's clothes to expose his seal.
Dad's seal was deep in it.
"You were strangely quiet."
"Earlier, something snapped in your seal. It was what your mother did years ago to keep Kyuubi's chakra from attacking you."
"I see."
"Let me in control."
"But..."
"Please." I sighed and left him.
I was back with Tobirama and Hashirama and I blinked at oji-chan.
He was in Kyuubi mode. I could feel my body healing thanks to Kurama's chakra. I watched Dad started to break the seal but Oji-chan, in my body, used the Rasengan on him. Dad dodged, but barely and Minato, in my body, stood in front of his son.
"You're…" Dad started, only to lose his grin and took a defensive stance.
"Nee-chan?" He turned my face to look at Naru and smiled at him.
"Sorry, Akane is not in control right now. You could say I'm her Kurama." I raised a fist in victory on my side and Tobirama slapped me behind the head. I weakly glared at him.
"Hey, who the hell are you possessing my sister's body like that!?"
"I just told you Naruto. Now go in tail mode to break the seal around you. Go as high as you can without losing control." He blocked Dad's fist. "I'll hold him off!"
"Stop interrupting me Minato," Dad growled quietly in anger. I had never heard him like this, and saw such a murderous look in his brown eyes.
They engaged in a fight, Oji-chan adapting well to my body and moving in a way it wasn't used to. Dad was fighting back. Chains, water, hiraishin…
It was a shit show.
Finally, Naruto broke the seal around him and put some distance between himself and the fight.
"Oji-chan, we're changing again and I'm sending you in a clone!"
I was back in control, next to Naru. I made an ice clone and activated the Claw.
"What the…" my cousin started but the Claw was on my clone.
It changed into Oji-chan. He cracked his neck.
"That's better," he commented. Naru pointed his finger at him, gaping.
"You're the Fourth Hokage! How's that possible!?" Minato shot him an amused look.
"The Fourth Hokage?" he repeated.
"What else?" Dad facepalmed.
"Did you forget what I said?" Naruto became livid and Minato attacked Dad.
"That's...is that really…" I grabbed Naru by his shoulders. "How...he's dead…"
"I'll explain later Naru, we need to get out of here." He looked at me, lost, but nodded.
We went for the door.
"You're not leaving!" Dad barked at us, chains coming at Naruto.
My legs moved before my brain could understand. Huh...it was probably what happened for Fubuki as well back then. It was just instinct.
Pure instinct.
Naruto fell on his ass, blood on his jacket and horror written all over his face. I fell on my knees, coughing blood.
I had three chains in me.
Damn...it hurt like hell. I looked up from the floor at Naruto, barely registering Oji-chan screaming my name.
"You...okay?"
"Nee-chan?" he called me, terrified. I smiled at him.
"Good...you're okay…" He looked down and tears started falling as he saw the blood.
I wasn't sure if I wanted to look down.
"I'm sorry…" He grabbed my shoulders.
"That's okay...I mean...Sakura-chan can fix you nee-chan...I...I just need to get you to her! Yes, that's all I…" I shook my head.
"I hid so many things from you...thinking I'd protect you from...from a useless burden…" I coughed, barely tasting the metallic taste of blood anymore.
"You'll tell me later!" I cupped his cheek.
"I never...thought I'd leave...leave this place alive…" He shook his head, biting his bottom lip. "Now I...I understand onii-chan...I wonder...I wonder if he felt...the same wh...when he died in...in front of Sas…" I wondered if he felt the need to say everything to Sasuke before he died or if Itachi just...didn't have any doubt about taking everything to his grave.
"Stop talking! You need to keep your strengths!" I shook my head and touched his seal with my left hand.
In the blink of an eye, we were in the bijuu mindset. Kurama was no longer caged, standing behind Naru as I had the Shinigami behind me.
"What...is that?" Naru asked slowly with wide eyes. Kurama breathed out heavily through his nose, his eyes observing us coldly.
"That," I pointed at the Shinigami, "is my Kurama." I raised my top, showing the similar seal I had to his. He was completely lost. "And it is the reason I've traveled to talk to jinchuuriki, this place is. It is also the way I broke Yagura's and Isobu's genjutsu back then."
"But what is it?"
"The Uzumaki clan was famous and feared for its power, right?" He nodded. "They developed a way to get stronger very fast. They made a pact with the Shinigami, the deity of death. Uzumakis feeling a lot of regrets toward something could summon the Shinigami and their soul would be sent back in their body before that something. In exchange, the Shinigami would take half of their vitality and would take their soul the moment they die. That's what happened to me nine years ago." He blinked and narrowed his eyes.
"You...you do look different. Your teeth…" I smiled.
"This is the appearance I had when I summoned the Shinigami and died. I was almost thirty-eight." He pursed his lips and looked at Kurama.
"Is that what you meant by 'she's older than she looks'?" Kurama scoffed and turned his head away. Naruto looked back at me with a conflicted expression. "You never...why didn't you tell me?"
"I didn't want to burden you with that, and you were young anyway." I looked down. "And a part of me didn't want you to know how I was when I was younger. However, I messed up a few things. Sasuke for instance, I did give him a lot more attention than you." He looked down. "I was so scared of him turning into a criminal and temporary Akatsuki member that I watched over him a lot and was sure you'd be fine because you turned out perfectly fine before without Mom or I." I pursed my lips. "I...before, I didn't meet you before I was twenty-two and a half. I didn't want to meet you."
"...because you blamed me?"
"Part of, but also because I caused Mom's death." He widened his eyes in horror. "After that, I stopped giving a damn about the shinobi world and anything related to it. Naruto was in Konoha. I knew who he was, but had no interest in knowing him. It was not until I went to Konoha with Sasuke and my twins that I met him."
"You had children?" he asked quietly.
"And they loved training with you." He smiled a little. "Naruto hugged me and called me 'nee-chan' immediately. I didn't understand why because I had not wanted to meet him for so long, happy to pretend he didn't exist. He just said he understood my reasons, and even if we had not grown up together and he had been with no family for a long time, we could be a family now." I clenched my top at my heart. "It was hard but eventually, we did become a family. When I arrived here, in front of Shisui before he killed himself…"
"Shisui-nii killed himself?" he mumbled with wide eyes.
"...and he brought us to Konoha with Mom, and then you moved in with us, I thought I could fix it. I thought we'd grow up together, but then Kiri happened, and you became a genin and I knew this whole Akatsuki would start soon and Sasuke would try to leave the village…" I sighed. "In the end, I guess I sacrificed you in a way. Mom was here, so you weren't alone. Yet, when I see your graduation picture at Mom's, I can't help but think I should be on it."
"...that's okay, we still have time. Once Sakura-chan…"
"I've always had faith in you though," I continued, ignoring him. "I knew I'd be proud of you, and this time I'd be able to watch, even from afar! No matter the distance…" He looked at the Shinigami behind me.
"Nee-chan, what kind of distance are you talking about? And stop avoiding my ques…" I hugged him tightly.
"I love you so much Naru, and I'm sorry you felt like you came second so many times because of how things were the first time around, even if for you it's just your life. I wish...I wish Mom will see the day she'll meet her grandchildren this time."
"Nee-chan, stop saying stuff like that! You're making it sound like goodbyes but it's…" I let go of him and went to Kurama. He eyed me suspiciously.
"I've always known there was something wrong about you," Kurama stated. "Calling us bijuu by our names and insisting Naruto asked for mine was too weird." I smiled faintly.
"And you felt your other half in me as well, didn't you?" He grinned, showing his sharp fangs and breathed out. "The Akatsuki is led by the man who extracted you from Kushina. He's planing to get the Juubi." Kurama narrowed his eyes and lowered his head so that it was in front of me. "I'm aware that you don't like humans and shinobi at the moment, I can't really blame you as you've been used as a weapon so many times before but…" I looked above my shoulder. Naruto was too stunned to say anything. "But you've lived with Naruto and saw him grow since he was born. He's not there yet, but he'll show you. He'll show all of you." I raised my head to Kurama.
He twitched and tried to claw me. His claw was stopped by purple energy and the fox looked back at the Shinigami.
"Now now Kurama, you should know better. You've met my friend before, or have you already forgotten?" He bared his teeth at me.
"You insolent brat!"
"You're still nicer than Shukaku." I was spun around by Naruto. He was panicking now.
"It doesn't matter!" I blinked. "How old you are or...or what's sealed inside of you, it doesn't matter nee-chan! I've always known you like that, you never told me but I've always known you like that so it doesn't matter and if anyone gives you shit about this then I'll deal with them!" He sniffed. "You were sent in custody for defending me from some shop owners and people in general because I have Kurama sealed inside of me, I'll do the same!" I chuckled. "What's fu…" I flicked his nose, making him shut up. "Please don't leave where we can't follow…"
I gazed at him softly.
"I'm sorry Naru, it seems I do not have the choice and we're running out of time." I looked at my hand, slowly disappearing.
"What!? No!"
"It's the death I wanted," I told him more firmly. "Fubuki...onii-chan died protecting me and I've always wanted to have a meaningful death like his. I never thought it would be at the same place by the same person but...ultimately, giving my life so that you can live yours is more than I could ask for." I grinned at him. "I'm proud of you Naru, and I love you. Keep working to become a good Hokage." A tear fell and we were back in reality.
I fell forward next to Naruto. I faintly felt oji-chan going back in the seal as I couldn't…
I blacked out, bleeding out from my wounds.
"He's stable," Sakura said in relief, the green glow around her hands disappearing.
Itachi was still unconscious though, but his life was no longer threatened.
"What were you doing while he was fighting?" Sai asked her as Sakura went to heal him.
"I investigated that...wall around the Tower. I'm not an expert, but it was almost brand new and the source seemed to come from the entrance. I wanted to investigate more but Itachi-san…"
"Brand new…" Sasuke mumbled, staring at the Tower. "Maybe that Ushio did it, but then the entr…" Sasuke widened his eyes. "Oh shit!" He left.
"Sai, do you think you can carry Itachi-san?" Sakura asked him, her eyes darting between him and where Sasuke took off. Sai nodded.
"No problem." He drew a bird and they took off, Itachi between them.
When they arrived at the entrance where the whole group but Naruto was, they saw Sasuke being blasted away in a tree. They both jumped down and Sai put Itachi against a rock.
"Kakashi-sensei!" Sakura called him as they met up with their team. Sakura blinked at Hinata, who was scanning the Tower with her Byakugan, but there was no Naruto in sight. "Where's Naruto?"
"Inside. He followed Akane and the door shut itself before I could follow them inside," Kakashi growled.
"How's Itachi?" Yamato asked them.
"He's fine, I had to do a minor surgery to heal the heart muscle directly. He should wake up shortly, Sasuke made a seal for that." Speaking of Sasuke, he walked to them, blood dripping down his forehead and a heavy scowl on his face. "Sasuke-kun?"
"You talked about a 'wall'?" he asked her rudely. She nodded. "If I'm right, Ushio must have made a seal to seal the entrance himself. Basically...we broke the seals made by the Fourth, but it activated his own. The wall was like a big lock. He adjusted the seal in order for it to lock the Tower once he had what he wanted inside."
"Naruto and Akane." Sasuke nodded at Yamato.
"He must have used his own blood so that the seal recognized them as Uzumakis." Sasuke scratched his head. "That's insane, the chakra that made that wall all went straight to that door once these two entered the place to lock it. It's above high level Fuinjutsu."
"Can you break it?" Kakashi asked him. Sasuke pursed his lips and looked at Hinata.
"All seals are broken the same way, but as the chakra from that seal surrounded the Tower, I think there must be markers around we didn't see to make it stable."
"We need to cut the power," Hinata finished for him, already searching.
"Hinata, Sasuke, you…"
"Stoppppppppp!" a high voice screamed at them. They turned around to see a man clad with an Akatsuki coat. Sasuke tensed at the orange mask on his face. "Ushio-senpai asked Tobi to not let you in!" Sakura widened her eyes and shot Sasuke a look, remembering the Haku mission.
"Sasuke-kun...Tobi…"
"Yeah." Kakashi put a hand on his shoulder.
"Sasuke, work with Hinata, we'll hold him off."
"Time your attacks right," Sasuke whispered harshly to him. Kakashi nodded.
"I know. Teleportation and phasing, right?"
Yamato and Sai engaged him, Sakura and Kakashi using this opportunity to attack. Of course, Tobi dodged, pretending to be in a bad situation. After dodging several attack, he teleported next to Itachi.
"I'm going to take care of the weak o…" Itachi turned into crows when his hand touched his neck. "What?"
He moved his empty hand in front of his chest, the kunai digging into it and blood spurting from the wound. Itachi kept his hold on the kunai, his sharingan burning in his eyes.
"Ah, you pretended to be unconscious to get me to attack you!" Tobi exclaimed, flailing around. "That's not fair!" He phased in the ground, reappearing on a tree branch as Itachi went to his group. Tobi pointed an accusing finger at the Hatake. "You knew it!"
Yamato felt a sharp burn on his hand and looked at it. He widened his eyes and opened his mouth, but a loud noise, followed by a roar, interrupted him. They all looked at the Tower. On the side was an almost complete Kyuubi.
"Naruto!" Sakura yelled. Yamato looked at his hand in horror.
"Eight tails. Naruto has eight tails."
"The seal's almost broken then," Kakashi added in a somber tone. He looked back at Tobi, who was staring at the display as well. A form emerged next to him.
"We can't get in," the white side told the man.
"That Uzumaki sealed everything and made sure we wouldn't be able to look at them."
"Ushio really did betray us in the end to fulfill his own wish," Tobi said in a much deeper voice. He looked at Konoha. Kakashi and Itachi were staring at them. "You do know if the jinchuuriki let loose like that it must be because of a very intense fury? Akane must be dead." Itachi glared.
"Isn't that annoying for you too, Yondaime?" Not that he could see it, but Tobi frowned behind his mask.
How did Kakashi know that?
"Whatever you had planed for her was ruined by her dad," Kakashi continued.
Akane didn't tell him who that Uchiha truly was when she told him everything.
"I'd rather be rid of Ushio and losing her as well than having this guy around."
Rubble from the Tower kept falling in the lake.
What was going on inside?
