Ishiró was getting better.
Their flying had improved much in the year and a half since they'd been born. As the child of Godzilla and Mothra, they had scales as well as light streaks of fur covering their small, snake-like body. Their spotted wings were tiny, but still capable of flight due to Ishiró's light weight. Like their father, they ate large amounts of meat every day. And like their mother, they held great care towards the Earth as well the people who inhabited it. Though unlike either of their parents, they seemed to be fixated on exploring the world of humankind.
With their parents still asleep, Ishiró had snuck out from their cave to visit the famous New York City. With its tall buildings, bustling streets and all-encompassing lights, the city was easily one of Earth's brightest glowing beacons. As such, Ishiró found the location irresistible. As they flew through the starry sky on the night of New Year's Eve, they could see hundreds of thousands of people on the streets and in their homes getting ready to welcome the new year. And Ishiró, of course, was determined to be a part of the celebration.
As they neared Times Square, they could see an enormous crowd gathered around a tall structure with a glowing, metallic sphere perched at the top. Confetti flew through the air as a handful of joyful people stood in front of a recording crew. They were clearly ready to commence the beginning of the new year. And so was Ishiró. As the large digital clock struck 11:59, a large team of people off to the side of the street began to prepare a set of fireworks. Ishiró loved fireworks. They reminded them of the stars they would see whenever their parents allowed them to go flying in space. Knowing the fireworks wouldn't hurt them, Ishiró got an idea.
Once the countdown of the final ten seconds started, Ishiró watched from far away to determine where the fireworks would be fired into the sky. Upon finding where they would appear overhead, the small dragon got into position and readied their wings. They heard the crowd chant in unison as the sphere began to descend.

With that, the sphere fell into place and the fireworks were released. And as soon as they were, Ishiró flew into view. As the fireworks bursted over the crowd, Ishiró flew in between the gigantic sparks of light and color. The crowd exploded into cries of shock and astonishment. Believing Ishiró's appearance to be a part of the planned display, they erupted with cheers and applause. Ishiró had never felt so happy in their young life. For just this one night, they could celebrate with the people of the Earth without worrying about them bringing out any tanks. The new year was here and Ishiró was thrilled to be there to witness the event along with those their parents protected.
Upon returning to their cave roughly an hour later, Ishiró was met by Godzilla and Mothra, who were predictably upset that their child had left the cave in the middle of the night without their permission. And when Ishiró informed them of where they had been, the king and queen of the monsters forbid their child from ever doing so again without first letting them know. Despite this though, Godzilla and Mothra still took a moment to celebrate the new year along with Ishiró. Staying by their side, the king and queen flew with Ishiró high into the stars above, looking down upon the billions of people on Earth taking part in the same celebration. It was a beautiful sight that giant monsters rarely got to see, let alone experience. As colorful lights decorated the entire world, Godzilla, Mothra and Ishiró never felt closer to the people of the Earth. They had spent all of last year watching over them. And they wouldn't want the new year to be any different.
