Testing

Lee watched their homeroom teacher, Shota Aizawa, called Eraser Head as a hero, as he explained that he'd be testing their Quirk abilities with eight tests, and that he'd be having the lowest-ranked one expelled. Lee had been assigned class One A. Among his classmates were a boy named Shota Todoroki, a boy rumored to be the son of Endeavor who had the right half of his hair white and the left red with a burn scar around his left eye, and his left eye blue while the right was brown. There was a boy there who was rumored to have destroyed the zero-point robot in his testing zone with a single punch to the head, but at the cost of obliterating the bones in his arm in the punch, and likewise breaking his legs jumping up to the head. His name was Izuku Midoriya, though one of the other classmates called him Deku. There was also a pale-blond-haired boy with the ability to send explosions out of his hands, and a chimp on his shoulder about being the most badass thing since All Might. His name was Katsuki Bakugo. He'd scored highest on the entrance exam with seventy seven points from destroying villains. However, in the secret second category of rescue points, for doing heroic deeds, he'd scored a zero. Midoriya, on the other hand, had zero combat points and sixty rescue points. Everyone else had scored with a mixture of the two.

"We'll start with a fifty meter sprint," Aizawa said. "Lee, Iida. you two are first."

Lee glanced at his opponent. A tall, bulk-muscled boy with blue hair, glasses, a stick up his ass about rules and regulations, probably no childhood friends, and a speed-enhancement Quirk called Engine that involved miniature engines in his calves, complete with eight exhaust pipes sticking out of the backs of each calf. He was fast, but nowhere near Lee's speed. The camera robot that was timing their race told them to begin and Lee exploded forward, clearing the distance almost instantly, the camera reporting half second. Iida, on the other hand, cleared the sprint in just over three seconds.

"At fifty meters, I can only get up to third gear," Iida muttered to himself, then turned to watch Lee for a moment. "How do you move so fast? I've never met anyone that fast."

"Neither have I," Lee said. "My Quirk doesn't have an official name, but I like calling it Mach."

"Catchy," Iida nodded. "How fast can you go?"

"Fast enough to regret my life choices," Lee said, walking away.

The tests continued. Gripping strength, which Lee was exceptionally average at, since his exoskeleton didn't augment his strength, the standing long jump, which he was able to do fairly well at by simply jumping faster than the others to fling himself, though not as great as a few of the others, repeated side steps, going for max number in a set time. Here, Lee once again shot down any of the others' attempts at trying to be the top by scoring well over a thousand each direction. Then there was the softball throw. As of yet, Midoriya had yet to use his Quirk, and had come in dead last every event. When Lee threw his ball, he used his speed to send it hurtling away, also at his speed. As a result, he got about six hundred meters. Then, Midoriya went, only for Aizawa to use his Quirk to shut off Midoriya's. He took a few minutes to speak to Midoriya before Midoria went to throw the ball again. When he did, his right index finger curled at the last second, the bones in it shattering, but sending the ball hurtling away. Lee narrowed his eyes. Apparently Midoriya's Quirk had as severe a backlash as he'd heard.

After Midoriya's throw, Bakugo went to beat the shit out of him and find out why Bakugo had never known Midoriya had a Quirk, only for Aizawa to intervene and stop him. Midoriya went around Bakugo, giving him a wide berth, before hurrying over to one of the girls in the class, a brunette named Ochaco Uraraka, who had a zero gravity Quirk that had earned her a score of infinity on her softball throw.

"Ouch, does your finger hurt?" she asked Midoriya.

"Oh, uh, no, it's okay," Midoriya stammered.

"Your Quirk's got some serious bite to it," Lee commented. "It's no wonder you haven't used it for the rest of the events."

"Yours is amazing," Midoriya said.

"Mine's broken," Lee grumbled, right hand curling and uncurling.

"What do you mean?" Midoriya asked.

"Nevermind," Lee sighed. "It doesn't matter."

Midoriya nodded and they returned to the tests. Sit-ups, which Lee aced with his speed, the seated toe-touch, which he was exceptionally average at, and finally, the long distance run. A mile-long run, which Lee finished in ten seconds, shocking even Aizawa.

"You just ran three hundred sixty miles per hour," Aizawa said. "That's the fastest speed quirk ever recorded."

"I know," Lee said.

"How were your parents not heroes?" Aizawa asked.

"Because I'm a first generation," Lee said.

Aizawa stared at him for a moment before nodding. "Everyone gather around for the results!"

Lee looked at the holographic list of names. He wasn't surprised by his name sitting at the top, or Todoroki being third, Bakugo being fourth, or Midoriya being dead last. He was surprised by a rather well-developed girl about his age named Momo Yaoyorozu being second. She was an emitter type, her specific Quirk, quite accurately, named Creation. She could generate any substance or object from her body, so long as she understood it's atomic composition, structure, and the method for creating it. Obviously, that didn't include living things. He wasn't sure how she'd scored second, but he was interested in making friends with her. She'd be useful for emergency repairs for his exoskeleton if he needed them.

"And I was lying," Aizawa said, turning off the hologram. "No one's going home."

Everyone stared at him, deadpan as he smiled widely, though his eyes didn't move, making it look both creepy, and false.

"That was just a rational deception to make sure you gave it your all in the tests," Aizawa said.

Midoriya, Uraraka, and Iida all shrieked in disbelief and surprise, and Midoriya actually looked like he might pass out.

"I'm surprised the rest of you didn't figure that out," Momo said. "I'm sorry, I guess I probably should have said something."

Lee stared at her for a moment before grinning and shaking his head. She was a sharp one. he'd have to be careful or else she'd figure out his Quirk's downside without him wanting her to.

"That's it, we're done for the day," Aizawa said. "Pick up a syllabus from the classroom and be ready tomorrow morning." He turned to walk away, pausing to give Midoriya a slip of paper and telling him to go to the school nurse.

"You were incredible!" an invisible girl said, stepping up in front of him, the only thing visible being her school uniform. "Your Quirk is so cool!"

"My Quirk is a curse," Lee said, turning to walk away, only for a girl with short, messy pink hair, slightly lighter pink skin, a pair of short, thin horns that hooked forward, and eyes with black sclera and yellow irises to step in front of him.

"Your exoskeleton's so cool!" she beamed. "Does it have anything to do with your Quirk?"

"Yes, now please leave me alone," Lee said, moving to go around her, only for the invisible girl to step in front of him again.

He sighed heavily, accepting that they weren't going to leave him alone. He wasn't really sure how to handle them. normally, people avoided him because of his exoskeleton, but these two seemed bound and determined to be his friends. He tried to hide how badly he was panicking inside, instead focusing on walking over to Momo. best to make a halfway decent impression, just in case he really did need her help with his exoskeleton.

"You're Momo Yaoyorozu, right?" Lee asked.

"That's right," Momo nodded. "You're the fastest man alive. I think I'll call you flash, after that really old American comic book."

Lee grimaced. "Please don't."

Momo grinned. "Well, what should I call you then?"

"Why not Lee?" Lee asked.

Momo sighed. "Gosh, you're so boring. And you're making your fangirls jealous by talking to me instead of them."

Lee sighed, glancing back at them, the pink one being somewhere between pouting and glaring at Momo, while the invisible one's sleeves were forward, as though she had her arms crossed, not that he could see it. "You think they're going to stop being fangirls any time soon?"

"Only if you stop being so awesome," Momo said.

"Oh God, not you too," Lee groaned.

"No, no," Momo smiled. "I just know how to recognize greatness when I see it, and your speed is great."

"Yeah, well, you better get on the band wagon while it's still empty," Lee grumbled. "We could use someone who can make us seatbelts and airbags for when we crash."

Momo laughed. "So, what is the exoskeleton for? It doesn't seem to enhance your strength any."

"It doesn't," Lee said. "It's to help deal with the...backlash of my Quirk. An emitter-type friend of mine created the parts, and my sister, who has a super-genius Quirk, put it together."

"Ah hah," Momo smirked. "So that's why you came over to talk to me. You're hoping to have me be your emergency repair kit."

"I mean, that's not the only reason, but if you wouldn't mind making a new part if one breaks I'd appreciate it," Lee said.

Momo snorted, shaking her head. "We'll see. Come on. I'd like to enjoy a bit of my life before our teacher puts us through hell to train our Quirks."

"Good point."

They began to walk toward the school building, only for Lee to stop, sighing and turning back to the other two, motioning for them to catch up. Both squealed excitedly and ran over. Momo shook her head, smirking, and the four of them headed inside. Once they had their syllabuses, they left the school, heading toward the station.

"Let's go shopping!" the pink girl, Mina Ashido said, getting ahead of the other three and turning around to walk backward.

"Sure!" the invisible girl, Toru Hagakure, agreed.

"Yeah, I'm kinda strapped for cash," Lee said.

"If you need something, I can pay," Momo offered. "My family's pretty well off."

"Thanks, but I'd rather not accept charity unless I have to," Lee said. "I do appreciate the offer though."

"Then you can be our bag holder!" Mina smiled.

"Yeah, I actually have some stuff to take care of," Lee said.

"Please!" Mina pleaded, doing a decent job making puppy-dog eyes at him.

Lee groaned. How was he supposed to say no when she made a face like that? To say nothing of the fact that she and the invisible girl were the closest he'd ever come to female friends who weren't his sister. And Momo, if he managed to not annoy her. He finally relented and Mina and Toru cheered. Lee rested his face in his hand, steeling himself for a long shopping trip of obviously excitable girls going to every store and buying anything they could get their hands on.
