Heroing 101: Costumes

Lee leaned back in his chair and yawned, covering his mouth. the spine of his exoskeleton flexed as easily as it ever had before it broke. He was glad to have his normal exoskeleton back finally, even if Amy had been a bit late with it. Unlike the other, which was always covering him, this one had the appearance of a skeletal system outside his body, though he kept it under his uniform which kept most of it hidden, and the arms of it were able to collapse onto his back without hampering his flexibility at all. When deployed, they had splinted metal hands to go outside of his own, and metal rods running up along the front and back of his arms. The exoskeleton's spine was actually fused to his actual spine, a very painful augmentation for his spine, and one which initially saved his life before becoming the base for his exoskeleton. The bottom of it was at his tailbone, and the top was just below the notch at the back of his skull, with a small blue light glowing at the top of it, one which he refused to state the purpose of. His lower body, while free of an exoskeleton, did have his boots. As they were entirely metal, and extended up to his knees with a kneepad included, they were able to be removed by twisting a latch on each side, which would allow the front and back of the boot to separate enough for him to take the boot off or put it on. And thanks to the special metal they were made of, he never had to worry about the latches breaking, because they'd withstood his Quirk since he'd gotten them. Though he had to have new ones made every so often as his body grew.

"I...am...HERE! ! !" their current class's teacher, All Might, the most powerful and famous hero of all time, shouted, stepping into the room with a red suit with a white circle on his chest and shoulders, white lines connecting them, a blue cape, and white and blue pants, yelled. "Coming through the door like a hero!"

He was a behemoth of solid muscle, had messy blonde hair, the front of which stuck up in four spikes, had a huge, confident smile on his face, and had everyone in the class, male and female, fangirling instantly. Everyone but Lee. He wasn't Lee's favorite hero. He had an annoyingly loud, confident laugh, and his catch phraze was "Hope has arrived, because I am here" which just generally set Lee off from arrogant-level confidence.

"Welcome to the most important class at U.A. High!" All Might was saying. "Think of it as Heroing One-Oh-One! Here you will learn the basics of being a pro, and what it means to fight in the name of good!" He turned away, lunging to the side and flexing. "Let's get into it!" He spun back toward them, holding up a card that had the word "BATTLE" on it. "Today's lesson will pull no punches!"

"Fight training!" Bakugo grinned.

"Real combat?" Midoriya asked worriedly.

"Sucks to be Midoriya," Lee muttered to himself. "Or Midoriya's opponent."

"One of the keys to being a hero is...looking good!" All Might shouted, spinning and pointing to a section of the wall as it slid out, numbered containers filling it, and several more that also slid out from the wall. "These were designed for you based on your Quirk Registration Forms and the requests you sent in before school started!"

Everyone began to cheer and Lee stared at the container that should be his.

"Get yourselves suited up, and then meet me at Training Ground Beta!" All Might instructed, the class once again cheering.

A few minutes later, Lee stared at his reflection in the mirror. He had on a black metal half-mask covering his nose and mouth with an air-filter that was strong enough to allow him to breathe even chemical weapons without harm, but which didn't hamper his breathing any, a sleeveless black shirt that was tight over his exoskeleton, a pair of black pants that were tight, but not enough to ride up, or make his manhood stand out awkwardly, and a pair of fingerless, bicep-length, black gloves. He stared at his reflection in the bathroom mirror. His eyes glowed sky blue softly, the same color as the lightning his Quirk released from his eyes for apparently aesthetic purposes, though the glow was from something else entirely. He sighed, walking out of the room and left the building, running to Training Ground Beta and arrived before anyone else besides All Might.

"Wow, you really are fast," All Might said, still smiling. "You're going to be an interesting one. But, do you have spare exoskeletons? One your Quirk Registration Forms, you mentioned-"

"I have one spare, and my sister and friend are working on figuring out how to make an upgraded version," Lee interrupted. "And I'd appreciate it if you kept quiet about why I wear them. At least for now."

"Very well," All Might nodded, just as the others began to arrive from the tunnel. "Here they are. They say the clothes make the pros young ladies and gentlemen, and behold, you are the proof!"

Lee looked at the class with a raised eyebrow. Bakugo had a pair of grenade-shaped gauntlets, a sleeveless, black shirt with a red "X" across the chest, an open metal collar around his neck, black pants and boots, and a black half-mask over his eyes that made the top half of his face look shadowed menacingly, and which had large, black explosion-shaped fins on the back of it, reaching back from his head, both fins with orange outlines to complete the explosion appearance. Lee kind of liked it. Uraraka had on a bodysuit with black sides, light pink up the middle and on the shoulders as well as wrapping around between her legs, a light pink belt, and light pink boots and thick, pink, metal bracelets. Iida had a suit of medieval-looking armor with exhaust pipes on the backs of his calves and two small smokestack-shaped wings on his helmet. Momo was wearing a crimson leotard that was open down the front from the top to just below her navel, revealing a wide strip down her considerable cleavage and her flat, smooth stomach, white border on the shoulders where the leotard lacked sleeves, and a pair of yellow utility belts around her hips, both sitting low and acting sort of like a dangerously short skirt. Mina had on a blue one-piece suit that sat low on her own sizeable chest, and included full pant-legs and tan half-jacket with the collar lined with fluffy white fur, the bodysuit being covered in purple in the appearance of either spots or paint splatter, but he wasn't sure which. She also wore a white half-mask over her eyes. Lee didn't see Toru or Midoriya, so Midoriya was probably at the back, and either Toru was too, or she was taking full advantage of being invisible and was naked.

"Take this to heart, from now on you are all heroes-in-training!" All Might declared. "This is getting me all revved up! You look SO COOL! ! ! Now, shall we get started, you bunch of newbies?"

He turned, walking away and Lee turned, walking over to the others, Iida nodding to him.

"Your suit is strangely fitting being plain like that," Iida said.

"Half my costume is my exoskeleton," Lee shrugged. "Personally, I think your armor's better. My exoskeleton isn't a choice."

"You ever going to tell us why?" Iida asked.

"Maybe someday," Lee shrugged.

"Hey Deku!" Uraraka greeted suddenly as she was pulling on a helmet with pink-tinted glass in the front, reaching about six inches out from her face. "I love your costume! Not too flashy, you know?"

Lee turned to Midoriya, who was wearing a pale green jumpsuit with white boxes on the sides, a full cloth mask with a pair of rabbit-ear-like pieces shaped the same as All Might's hair spikes and with white teeth painted along the bottom, white gloves, a red belt with pouches on the sides, black elbow and knee guards, and red sneakers.

"No need to ask where he got the inspiration for the mask," Momo said as she stepped up beside Lee.

"That's true," Lee said. "Now, yours on the other hand..."

"Do you like it?" Momo asked.

"It's a little...open," Lee said.

"Well, yeah," Momo said. "I need my skin exposed to use my Quirk. I'd have made it more open if I was allowed, but there were restrictions."

Lee took a few seconds to try not to imagine a more revealoud outfit on her. As he was finishing banishing the images that formed anyway, Mina stepped up in front of him, along with a floating pair of gloves with accompanying shoes below them.

"Oh God," Lee said. "Toru, please tell me you have a super hero costume that turns invisible with you."

"No one knows how to make one!" Toru said, suddenly embarrassed, left glove moving up to where her arm was probably covering her breasts and her right glove moving to cover thin air, likely where her legs met. "Please stop staring!"

"You do realize you're invisible, right?" Lee asked. "I couldn't stare even if I did try."

"He's got a point," Mina said. "What do you think about my costume?"

"Why do you all care what I think?" Lee asked.

"You're our friend," Momo said.

"Really?" Lee asked. "Yesterday I felt like a pack mule."

"That's what boys are for on shopping trips," Mina laughed. "You did a really good job, though."

"Alright, everyone gather around!" All Might called, everyone walking over.

"Sir," Iida said, raising a hand. "This is the training zone from our entrance exam, correct? Does that mean we're going to be conducting urban battles again?"

"Not quite!" All Might said. "I'm going to move you two steps ahead! Most of the villain fights you see on the news take place outside, however, statistically speaking, run-ins with the most dastardly evil-doers take place indoors. Think about it. Back-room deals. Home invasions. Secret underground lairs. Truly intelligent villains stay hidden in the shadows. For this training exercise, you'll be split into teams of good guys and bad guys and fight two-on-two indoor battles."

"Christ I hope it's a big room," Lee grumbled.

"Isn't this a little advanced?" a girl in a green body suit with a pair of gold googles on top of her head like frog eyes asked, also happening to be a girl who did the fifty meter and long distance run both by hopping like a frog.

"The best training is what you get on the battlefield!" All Might said. "But remember, you can't just punch a robot this time! You're dealing with actual people now!"

"Sir, will you be deciding who wins?" Momo asked.

"How much can we hurt the other team?" Bakugo asked.

"Do we need to worry about the losers getting expelled like earlier?" Uraraka asked.

"Will you be splitting us up based on chance or comparative skill?" Iida asked.

"Isn't this cape crazy?" the obviously gay guy with a bellybutton laser Quirk asked, indicating his sparkly purple cape.

"Everyone chill out," Lee said. "Give the man a chance to answer questions before bombarding him with more."

"Thank you," All Might said. "I actually wasn't finished talking yet. Now, listen up!" He pulled out a script book and opened it. "The situation is this! The villains have hidden a nuclear missile somewhere in their hideout! The heroes must try to foil their plans! To do that, the heroes have to either catch the evil-doers or recover the weapon! Likewise, the bad guys succeed if they can protect their payload or capture the heroes!"

"Sounds like a classic action movie setup," Midoriya mumbled loudly.

"Time is limited and we'll choose teams by drawing lots!" All Might announced, holding up a yellow box with "LOTS" written on the front.

"Isn't there a better way?" Iida asked.

"Think about it," Midoriya said. "Pros often have to team up with heroes from other agencies on the spot. So maybe that's the reason we're seeing that here!"

"Yes I see," Iida said. "Life is a random series of events." He bowed to All Might. "Excuse my rudeness."

"No sweat!" All Might said. "Let's draw!"

Team A was Midoriya and Uraraka, who Lee would be surprised didn't end up a couple soon. Team B was Todoroki, who wore a white collared shirt, brown suspenders, and had the left side of his body encased in ice, hiding the red half of his hair and the mark on that side of his face, paired up with a guy with six arms, all connected by webbing. Team C was Momo and a short pervert with detachable black balls of hair in a mohawk, which could stick to anything and which he could bounce off of. Team D was Iida and Bakugo. Team E was Mina and Lee. And the only other team Lee payed attention to was Team I, which had Toru on a team with a blond guy wearing a martial arts gi who had a tail with blond fur at the end, and blond fur on his left shoulder.

"I'm so glad we're partners!" Mina cheered, hugging his arm.

"You're really easily excited, aren't you?" Lee asked.

Mina simply smiled up at him, Lee sighing heavily.

"I declare that the first teams to fight will be...these guys!" All Might shouted, holding up a black ball for the Villain team marked "D" and a white hero ball marked "A".

"Pour Midoriya," Lee sighed. "Fighting Bakugo right off the bat. He's toast."

"He's got that awesome Quirk, though!" Mina said.

"Yeah, which is an all or nothing strike," Lee said. "It packs enough power to kill, and he can't dial it back because there's too much. And in addition, it also shatters his own bones, which means if he misses, he loses by default."

"Oh, I didn't think of that," Mina said.

All Might dismissed the rest of the teams to the monitoring room to watch and they all filed away, Lee pausing to wish Midoriya and Uraraka luck, then following the others.
