Alan Lawton has nothing important to do tonight, so he has the freedom to get comfy in his home. At the moment, he's watching TV. The channel is showing a crime film, albeit one that looks cheaply made, so he switches the channel. Now he's on a news channel, discussing a recent kaiju attack, which Alan would rather not watch if he wanted to stay in a good mood.

He shuts off the TV, before heading to his kitchen counter, pouring himself some coffee. Alan steps outside onto his balcony, gazing at the night sky. So many stars can be seen, a rare sight in cities due to light pollution. There are even shooting stars gliding across the sky.

Alan notices one shooting star that hasn't disappeared. In fact, it seems to be falling towards the ground. The star passes his house, before landing somewhere in the mountains, as he feels the impact. Alan knows that it wasn't a shooting star, but a meteor. He heads back into his house and starts dialing a specific number into his phone. He's calling his friend, Dr. Issaac Birch, an expert on geology. Alan already knows how excited Birch will be once he tells him about a meteor that crash landed in their home state.

"Hello?" asks a woman on the phone.

"This is Alan Lawton speaking," he answers. "Is Dr. Birch there? I have something important to tell him."
