Sports Festival: War Declaration Resolved
"This is going to be bad, isn't it?" Lee asked.
"Probably," Momo nodded.
In the arena, Midoriya and Todoroki were having a glaring competition. Midoriya was going to need his Quirk for this, and he was going to need to be careful about it. Because even if he beat Todoroki with it, he would then need to beat either Kendo or Iida, and then after them beat Bakugo, unless Fumikage somehow beat Bakugo. Because even Mina agreed she was definitely not beating Fumikage, though Fumikage had promised not to bee too rough.
"I doubt the ring will survive this fight," Mina said.
"Probably not," Lee agreed. "Both of them have enough power to destroy it. Wonder which does it."
"Both of these heroes in training have been front-runners in the Sports Festival, but which one will survive to go into the next round?" the DJ asked. "Prepare for Midoriya versus Todoroki! Begin!"
And boy did they. The instant the DJ gave the order, Todoroki sent a trail of ice taller than Midoriya at him, only for Midoriya to activate his Quirk for a middle finger flick with his right hand, obliterating the ice with a blast of compressed air and sending cold air scattering into the crowd. Todoroki had managed to withstand the blast using a wall of ice behind him to keep from being blown away, and as soon as the wind cleared, Todoroki sent another wave of ice at him, Midoriya sacrificing his right index finger this time. Another wave of ice. Another broken finger. Another wave. Another finger. That was it for Midoriya's right hand. When Todoroki sent his next wave, he sprinted along it. That way, when Midoriya fired off a blast from his left middle finger, Todoroki could jump over the blast, now directly over Midoriya. Midoriya leapt away and Todoroki's hand hit the ground in stead of Midoriya's head, ice bursting from the ground around Todoroki's hand as high as his shoulder. Todoroki spun toward Midoriya as Midoriya was still airborne from leaping away and sent a wave of ice at him. It caught Midoriya's foot, only for Midoriya to punch with his left arm. The resulting blast decimated every bit of ice and filled the stadium with a massive cloud of dust and a strong wind, but when the dust cleared, Todoroki had more ice in a wall behind him, keeping him from being blown away. A chunk of ice had fallen on him, but Todoroki pushed it off easily, standing. Todoroki thanked Midoriya for drawing the fight out, as him using nothing but his ice for so long was infuriating his father, who Todoroki hated, then sent another wave of ice at Midoriya.
"It's over," Momo said.
"Not yet," Lee said. "Midoriya's not done. Todoroki's not the only one with something to prove."
Then, just as the ice reached Midoriya, a massive explosion of power slammed into it from Midoriya, obliterating it and sending Todoroki skidding backward to the very edge of the arena before he managed to catch himself. Lee narrowed his eyes, staring at Midoriya's hand. It looked like Midoriya's right index finger was darker than the rest. He'd reused it.
"You're trembling, Todoroki," Midoriya said. "It's easy to forget that Quirks are physical abilities. And that means, there's a limit to the cold your body can take, right?" He began to lift his right arm his entire body trembling, probably on the verge of shutting down from pain. I get it. Usually you'd make up for the drop in temperature by using the heat from your left side. But you refuse to do that now. Listen, we're all giving it our all. To try and win. To make our dreams into a reality." He turned his hand palm up, curling his fingers toward his thumb. "To become number one! You think you can win with half your strength!? look at me, Todoroki! You haven't managed to put a single scratch on me yet!" He clenched his hand into a fist, and Lee could imagine the sound, and feeling, of Midoriya's broken bones grinding and popping. "SO COME AT ME WITH ALL YOU'VE GOT! ! !"
"Midoriya, what are you trying to do here?" Todoroki growled. "You want my fire? What did my monster of a dad bribe you or something? Now I'm mad!"
Todoroki charged, but the moment he pushed off the ground into a leaping attack, Midoriya shot forward, preparing to punch Todoroki in the gut, by the look of his right fist's position. Lee narrowed his eyes, preparing himself for the chance of seeing Todoroki's insides. And he landed it. Except, instead of breaking his arm, or Todoroki, he simply launched him, though not before Todoroki froze Midoriya's left arm from wrist to elbow. Todoroki pushed himself up, coughing and swaying, before sending out a wave of ice, though it was slower than before. Midoriya leapt out of the way, and Todoroki moved in, only for Midoriya to again dodge out of the way, then flick a blast of compressed air into Todoroki, launching him again and rebreaking another finger. Todoroki began to fire off more ice attacks that Midoriya dodged before firing off another flick. They continued to fight, continuing to fire off attacks at each other, Midoriya breaking his fingers over and over. Finally, he couldn't even make a fist, so instead, he used his cheek to flick his thumb at Todoroki. Todoroki was blasted, but caught himself almost instantly.
"Why are you putting yourself through this?" Todoroki demanded.
"I want to live up to people's expectations," Midoriya said, charging again. "I want to be able to smile, while doing something good for them! I wanna be a pro! Whatever it takes to be a hero!" He slammed head-first into Todoroki's gut as Todoroki was spaced out for half a second, throwing him backward. "That's why, I'll give it my all...just like...you should be!" He watched as Tododorki skidded to a stop. "There's no way I can know what you've gone through, or why you're even here. Your life has been so much different than mine. But right now, stop screwing around! If you wanna reject your father, fine. But you don't have the right to be number one if you aren't going to use your full power!"
As Midoriya began to charge again, frost began to grow to cover Todoroki's right side entirely.
"Shut up!" Todoroki growled.
However, as Midoriya neared him, he made no move to block or dodge Midoriya's next punch.
"That's why I'm going to win this!" Midoriya shouted, drilling his fist into Todoroki's gut. "I'll surpass you!"
Todoroki went airborne, the ice shattering from his body. He crashed down hard, but began to stand again.
"I will reject you," Todoroki growled. "I refuse...to use my left side."
"It's yours!" Midoriya shouted. "Your Quirk, not his!"
Todoroki stared at him for a long moment before flames suddenly exploded off of him, forming a massive inferno around Todoroki. Lee sighed. The fight was over.
"He's using his fire!" Uraraka gasped.
"The flames are so intense!" Momo said, shrinking back from them, ending up pressing closer to Lee.
"Midoriya's done what he wanted," Lee said. "He saved Todoroki, so now he's lost the fight."
"What do you mean?" Mina asked.
"Todoroki refused to use his flames because he refused to be like his father," Iida said. "He would rather lose than use them. If he's using them now, it's because Midoriya has managed to make him see that his flames are not his father's."
"Exactly," Lee nodded. "And now he's going to absolutely demolish Midoriya with them."
"You're helping your opponent," Todoroki said as the flames began to die down slightly. "You fool. Even though you want to win this battle. Now which one of us is screwing around?" Todoroki finished shrinking his flames down to only a massive blaze off his left arm and the left side of his hair. "I want it too. I'll be a hero!"
"Yes Shoto!" Endeavor suddenly shouted, walking forward to the railing. "Have you finally accepted your purpose? That's it! Very good! This is the dawn of a new era for us! With my blood in your veins, you'll surpass me! You will live up to the reason I created you!"
"Endeavor suddenly shouts words of...encouragement?" the DJ says, not at all sounding impressed or like he agrees with what Endeavor said. "What a doting father."
"Amazing," Midoriya said.
"Why are you smiling?" Todoroki asked. "With those injuries, in this hopeless situation, you must be crazy. Don't blame me for what happens next."
Then, Todoroki took a step forward with his right foot, ice shooting up around it as it hit the ground. Then, At the same time as Midnight and Cementoss moved to intervene, Todoroki sent a massive wall of ice at Midoriya, who leapt off the ground with his left leg, getting over the ice and flying at Todoroki rapidly. Then, just as Todoroki moved to fire a blast of flames more than powerful enough to erase Midoriya from existence, and Midoriya moved to use his Quirk in his right arm against Todoroki, five massive cement walls exploded up between them. Then, there was a massive explosion that completely obliterated the arena. The wind kicked up by the explosion was intense, though fortunately free of debris.
"Holy crap balls!" Mineta shouted as Shoji held onto him by the leg to keep him from being blown away.
"This is crazy!" Denki shouted.
"What's happening down there!?" Momo asked.
"The second strongest Quirk in the world is clashing with Midoriya's freakishly strong one," Lee said. "They'll both be lucky to avoid hospitalization."
Finally, the explosion ended and they all began to wait for the dust to settle. Lee slipped out from under Momo as it began to thin, ignoring the DJ's commentary, or Aizawa's explanation of the explosion's cause. He stared through the dust as it began to settle. For a moment, Midoriya was on his feet, though his left leg was broken, but after a moment, he collapsed. However, he was also against the wall of the stadium. Todoroki was staring at him in shock.
"There!" Midnight said. "Midoriya is...out of bounds! Todoroki wins! He advances to the third round!"
The crowd began to cheer, and Lee sighed as the robots responsible for carrying anyone injured to Recovery Girl rushed in for Midoriya. The moment they left, Uraraka did as well. Lee shook his head, leaning back against the railing.
"I'm so glad I didn't have to fight Todoroki," Lee said. "This was good for him, and it also would have hurt like a bitch to go up against that."
"Only if you didn't immediately send him out of bounds with your speed," Mina said, standing and moving out of his way, patting her seat. He rolled his eyes, accepting her invitation and she sat in his lap, Momo and Toru both leaning on his shoulders and slipping their hands into his. Lee heard Mineta grumbling behind him and twisted around, levelling a sinister, challenging glare at him.
"Something to say you little pervert fuck?" Lee snarled.
"No!" Mineta squeaked.
Momo tugged Lee's shirt, making him turn back around and she and Toru set their heads back down. "He's not worth it. Just leave him be."
Lee sighed, settling in for the next round.
