Best Room Competition
Lee raised an eyebrow as he walked into Fumikage's room. It was dark, almost pitch black, with skulls and other kinds of dark decorations. They'd already been to Midoriya's who had All Might decorations everywhere. Figurines, action figures, posters, bedding, slippers. Everything. Fumikage's fit his Quirk perfectly.
"Please leave," Fumikage said.
"A sword?" Midoriya asked. "So cool!"
"Get out!" Fumikage snarled.
"Do you know how to use that thing?" Lee asked. "Because if you do, I'm definitely going to ask you to teach me."
"Out!" Fumikage snapped.
"Alright, alright," Lee said. "Next up?"
"Aoyama," Mina said.
They headed to Aoyama's room and stopped. Disco ball, suit of armor, a half-dozen mirrors, and everything glittered. Aoyama was, for same reason, standing in a wannabe ninja pose in the center, leaning forward with his arms raised and hands hanging limp and one foot raised.
"Aren't you dazzled?" Aoyama asked.
"Shiny," the class said.
"No, no," Aoyama said. "It's not shiny, it's magnifique."
"Exactly what I pictured," Uraraka said.
"Honestly I was expecting a little more," Mina said.
"This is turning out to be really fun!" Uraraka said. "The last person one this floor is..."
She stopped as the entire class stared at Mineta, standing in his cracked open door, drooling, panting, and eyes glazed over, curling a finger at them.
"Hey, come on in girls," Mineta said. "I've got so much to show you."
Everyone turned, walking away.
"So, the third floor?" Uraraka asked.
They headed up to the third floor, but Ojiro's room was...plain. Almost painfully so. There were no decorations beyond his laptop and something hanging above it. Except, the more the girls commented on it, even asking if he had unpacked yet, the lower his tail hung. Iida's room had one entire wall lined with book shelves, then once they were full, he'd piled them on top of a short bookshelf. And once that was full, he'd piled them from the bookshelf to the corner on the floor, once again reaching the ceiling. He also had a massive shelf lined with spare glasses, which he claimed were because he expected them all to be broken during training. Next was Denki's room, which was decorated about like Lee expected from him. A dozen hats, a black comforter with two diagonal yellow stripes, a black area rug, and a black and dark blue tiger print curtains.
"Really?" Most of the girls asked.
"This is the store in the mall I'd avoid," Kyoka said.
"What!?" Denki said defensively. "I-It's perfect!"
Next up was Koda's room. A turtle-themed bed, a round, grass-colored rug under his table, a bear and giraffe stuffed animal on the bed, his corkboard was decorated with family photos with a bear head sticker in the bottom left and a rabbit on the bottom right, lime-green curtains, and a rabbit with a bed for it on one side, a food and water tray on the right, and a sort of litter box beside the foot.
"He has a rabbit!" Uraraka, Toru, and Mina squealed. "It's so cute!"
Uraraka and Mina, both of whom had taken one of Iida's spare glasses, rushed forward to pet the obviously tame pet excitedly.
"Hey, no fair!" Denki complained. "We don't get pets! You're trying to buy the judges love!"
"Good move, Koda," Lee said, patting him on the back. "Your friend's adorable."
Koda smiled and Lee turned to the girls.
"Alright you two, more rooms to see," Lee said.
Both sighed but nodded, walking out.
"Man, this sucks!" Denki complained. "I feel so judged right now."
"Hey, what a coincidence," Ojiro said. "I don't feel great. At all."
"Same here," Fumikage grumbled.
"And moi," Aoyama agreed.
"I got you," Lee grinned. "Hey girls."
They stopped, having been heading to the elevator.
"There are two more rooms on this floor," Lee said. "Fair's fair. If you're going to judge us, we're going to judge you."
The girls all looked around at each other before turning back to the boys, who all began to agree, Mineta louder than most. Then, the girls all grinned, nodding.
"Yeah!" Mineta said. "Their interior design skills should be held to the same standard as ours! Maybe even higher! Show us those dorms!"
"I'm into it!" Mina smiled, clapping.
"It can be an actual competition," Lee said.
"Okay, so like, what are the rules?" Mina asked. "Are we figuring out who has the best taste in the class, or just the overall coolest?"
"Wait, we're doing this?" Kyoka asked.
"Uh, this doesn't have to be a contest," Ojiro said.
"Au contraire," Lee said.
"Hey, you're not French!" Aoyama accused.
"Neither are you," Kyoka countered.
"A contest will both keep us entertained, and ensure we keep our rooms organized and clean," Lee continued, ignoring Aoyama.
"Excellent point," Momo said. "We'll finish the boys first, then do the girls on the way back down."
"Works for me," Mina smiled.
"To the fourth floor!" Uraraka cheered, running for the elevator.
The others all followed, and a few minutes later, they stepped out and headed for the rooms.
"Let's see, who else was on the fourth floor?" Uraraka mused. "Lee, Bakugo, Kirishima, and Shoji, isn't it?"
"Where is Bakugo?" Iida asked.
"Ah, he thought this was lame so he went back to his room to sleep," Eijiro said. "I could use some zees too."
"Then we'll do your room next!" Toru said as she and Mina ran for his door.
"You can sleep all you want after!" Mina shouted back at him.
Legacy, are you done mining the computer? Lee asked.
"I just finished," Legacy said. "She didn't have anything useful on it."
It's alright, Lee thought. Go ahead and shut the computer down. I'm not ready for anyone to see you.
"Okay," Legacy said.
"Not that I care, but you might not get what I'm going for," Eijiro warned before opening his door.
One wall had a poster with waves on it with the words "Congrats" and "Big Catch" on it, he had a punching bag, his clock had arms off the side that were flexing, he had a green camouflage blanket on his bed, a cardboard box in the middle of the room that still wasn't unpacked, a small flame-shaped lamp on his dresser along with some books and an action figure of one pro hero or another, and a ton of other motivational posters.
"A den of manliness," Eijiro grinned, flexing.
Mina nodded mutely.
"If I found out my boyfriend had a room like this, I'd dump him," Toru said.
"Let that be a warning to you," Denki muttered to Lee, nudging him with his elbow.
"Don't make us revisit your room again, Denki," Lee smirked, Denki deflating.
"It's so bold!" Uraraka was saying. "Makes me wanna work out!"
"You get it!" Eijiro grinned.
"Next up, Shoji!" Mina said cheerfully.
"You're not gonna find anything interesting here," one of Shoji's tentacles warned.
That was, apparently, understating things. When they opened the door it was empty. Like, a pile of blankets and a pillow and a small table, empty. That was it.
"Uh...more like nothing at all, dude," Mina said.
"So you're a minimalist, huh?" Todoroki asked.
"I've just never understood why someone would want to fill their room with junk," Shoji said.
Mineta walked over to the blankets, reaching under them and searching between the folds. "Guys like this always have a super pervy side."
"Lee's turn!" Mina almost sang.
"Sure," Lee said. "Just, bear in mind, I didn't bring a lot. Just a few pictures, my exosuit and exoskeleton, and some clothes."
He opened his door and stepped out of the way, letting the girls in to inspect.
"Who's this cute girl?" Uraraka asked. "There sure are a lot of pictures of her. Fourth girlfriend?"
"That's Amy," Lee said.
"Oh, it's...your sister," Uraraka said, carefully setting the picture back down. "Um...sorry."
"It's alright," Lee said, using his leg to keep Mineta from going in to see a picture of Amy.
The girls walked back out and Lee closed and locked the door.
"So, to the final floor?" Lee asked, the mood brightening again.
"Yeah!" Mina cheered, everyone heading for the elevators.
"All done!" Toru said.
"We'll start with Sero!" Mina decided.
"We seriously doing everyone?" Sero asked.
He opened his door as soon as they reached it and everyone stared. It was awesome. There was a cloth hanging on the right wall with stripes and a line of triangles, a bedspread decorated with white circles with blue four-point stars in them, then the rest brown with some light tan stripes, a small square table, a low hammock by the far wall besides a foldable changing divider, a sort of tribal design carpet, a bamboo dresser on the left side, a cloth hanging over it sectioned off into squares with each square having a separate design, and two diamond-shaped pieces of decorated wood to the right of that cloth.
"Oh wow!" the girls all said.
"Exotic!" Mina cheered.
"Its lovely!" Uraraka agreed.
"Sero, I didn't peg you for someone who'd like this stuff," Kyoka said.
Sero laughed confidently. "Yup, that's me, always the wild card."
"Let's keep moving," Toru suggested.
"Next is Todoroki's room, right?" Momo asked.
"Let's get this over with, it's late," Todoroki said, opening his door.
Everyone stared, dumfounded. It was amazing. It was decorated like an antique-style Japanese house so perfectly that Lee actually felt like he was looking through a portal. The room was even shaped differently to the others.
"So Japanese!" the girls gaped.
"It was even built differently!" Denki gaped.
"We've got these kinds of floor mats at my home," Todoroki said. "They're much more comfortable than hard wood."
"This isn't your house!" Denki snapped.
"How did you remodel your entire room in just one day!?" Mineta demanded.
"With hard work," Todoroki said, everyone staring at him.
"That's...holy shit, Todoroki," Lee said. "You should have gone into work as a home designer."
"I agree," Denki said. 'You are a beast."
"You'll make such a good pro!" Toru said.
"Pretty boys always have tricks up their sleeves," Sato complained as he stepped out of the room.
"Cheer up Sato," Lee said. "You can't be worse than Mineta and we didn't even see his room."
Sato sighed, opening his door. "Anyway, it's a pretty boring room."
"All of them are after Todoroki's," Eijiro said.
Sato had a yellow tablecloth over his coffee table with orange lines in squares, a small counter-top oven, a shelf of tableware, a cook book for sweets, eggs and milk still sitting out, and a pair of oven mitts beside the oven.
"Something smells good," Ojiro said. "What is it?"
"Oh crap, I forgot about that!" Sato panicked. "I finished unpacking really early so I started baking a chiffon cake!" He quickly opened the oven and shut it off. "I thought we could all eat it together. It hasn't been iced yet, but...want some?"
"Yeah!" Mina, Uraraka, and Toru all cheered.
"The strong guy's an expert baker?" Denki and Mineta gaped.
"You got icing ready?" Lee asked. "Or at cold-mix ingredients?"
"Yeah," Sato frowned.
"May I?" Lee asked.
Sato handed him a bowl, a whisk, and gestured to the ingredients around the microwave. Lee smiled and activated his Quirk, arms blurring as he rapidly mixed the ingredients into icing in about thirty seconds, then decorated the cake in even less time. All of them stared in surprise before cheering.
"I totally forgot Lee could cook!" Uraraka said.
"That was awesome!" Mina cheered.
"Let's dig in!" Toru cheered.
"It's delicious!" Uraraka said. "So fluffy!"
"I could eat it every day!" Toru agreed.
"Forget Sero, this is unexpected," Mina said.
"I think it's great that you have such a fun hobby Sato!" Momo smiled. "Would you bake something to go with my tea one day?"
Uh...I seriously did not expect this reaction," Sato said, blushing. "Mostly I bake for part of the training for my Sugar Quirk. Store-bought sweets can get pricey."
"Well, that's it for the boys," Mina said. "Now it's our turn ladies!"
"Oh man, that's so many rooms," Kyoka said. "Shouldn't we turn in?"
"Come on Jiro, live a little!" Mina said.
They headed back down to the third floor, starting with Kyoka's.
"This is kind of embarrassing," Kyoka said, opening her door and ducking her head.
Her room had red and black checkered ceiling, a white and black border under it, three band posters on the left wall, a black tarp-sized poster filling the right wall with the band name "Deep Dope" written on it, a complete band's worth of mics and instruments with an electric guitar and base, drums, amps, speakers, a keyboard, recording equipment, record players, CD players, cassette tape players, and a massive shelf filled with albums, CDs, and cassette tapes.
"Whoa!" Denki gaped. "You've got so many instruments!"
The others all walked into the room to look around as Kyoka tapped the tips of her earphone jacks together nervously.
"It's because Jiro's totally punk rock!" Toru said.
"Can you play all these!?" Uraraka asked excitedly.
"Yeah, at least a little," Kyoka said, sounding like it was a disappointment somehow.
"Your room's girlier than this," Denki said to Aoyama.
"Because I've got style," Aoyama said, raising a hand over his head.
Kyoka spun, driving a headphone jack into one of their ears each, using her amplified heartbeat to cause both of them incredible amounts of pain. "We're done here!"
"Don't listen to them, Jiro," Lee said. "Your room's awesome."
"Thanks," Jiro said, pulling her earphone jacks back.
"Next is me!" Toru cheered, opening her door. "Welcome in guys! What do you think?"
She had pink drapes with cherries on them, a pink-and-lighter-pink checker cloth hanging along the top of them, a half-dozen stuffed animals, white pillow and comforter combo, both with pink flowers, a purple pillow with red ribbon in a bow on the front, a string of five triangular flags in a semicircle on the right wall, a pink shelf with purple and blue striped bins serving as a dresser on the left side, a pink desk chair, a pink desk, and a round pink tea party table decorated with hearts.
"Now this is girly," Denki said. "So pink."
Mineta rushed into the room, reaching for a bin, only for Lee to smack his hand.
"No touching," Lee said. "The room looks great Toru. It fits you perfectly."
Toru blushed, smiling. "Thanks!"
Mineta began to wave his hand between the dresser and his face, sniffing. "Plus Ultra."
"Get away from there Mineta, you perv!" Toru snapped.
Lee nudged him with his foot like a misbehaving dog and Mineta walked out peacefully.
"We can do mine next!" Mina cheered, leading everyone else away, Lee hanging back with Toru.
"I love your hair," Lee said, smiling at the ponytail she'd put it up in.
Toru's face turned scarlet. "U-Uh, thanks!"
Lee chuckled. "You don't need to be embarrassed."
"I'm not," Toru said. "I'm just not used to someone actually being able to see what a mess I look like."
"You don't look like a mess to me," Lee smiled. "You look beautiful."
Toru smiled. "Thanks. Do you actually like the room?"
"I love it," Lee smiled, kissing her.
She smiled, kissing him back for a few seconds before pulling back. "Um...when we're wearing costumes..."
"I'll make sure I can't see you," Lee promised.
"Thanks," Toru smiled.
Lee gave her another quick kiss before they quickly left her room and caught up to the others just as they were leaving Mina's room, Mina locking the door since both Toru and Lee had seen it before. They headed to Uraraka's room, but she had gone super basic too. She had a laundry hanger, a fan, cookies and a tea pot on her table, a basic dresser and desk with a family photo on the dresser with a cactus, and a metal TV stand with an open shelf made up of thin metal rods.
"Yeah, it's not very interesting, I know," Uraraka said.
Almost everyone made disappointed noises and moved on.
"Is this okay?" Ojiro asked Fumikage. "It feels dirty seeing so many girls' rooms up close. This is your private space."
"Forbidden gardens," Fumikage said.
Lee glanced at Sero, seeing him dragging Mineta in a tape cocoon. He chuckled and shook his head.
"So, which of our rooms did you like better?" Mina asked, wrapping her arms around one of his.
"I bet he's going to say he liked them equally," Toru said.
"Actually, I'm a little biased to Mina's this time, because I helped her decorate after I finished mine early."
"Aw!" Toru whined. "I should have asked for help like I wanted to."
Lee chuckled. "But aside from me helping, yes, I liked them equally."
"Oh, I knew it!" Toru said.
"You're impossible!" Mina laughed.
"The last one up is Yaoyorozu," Denki said as they reached the fifth floor.
"The thing is...I maybe miscalculated a few things," Momo said, hesitating to open her door. "My room's a little bit more cramped than I intended."
She opened the door and Lee had to restrain a laugh. She had brought a California king canopy bed with cream-colored drapes which rested against the right wall and reached almost to the left wall, a fully-loaded bookshelf to the left, a vanity beside that, then a full writing desk wedged between the bed and the wall, complete with a feather quill and an inkbottle.
"And maybe not as creative as some of yours," Momo added.
"That bed is huge!" Denki shouted. "You can't even walk in here!"
"It's my furniture from home so I thought it'd fit," Momo said. "I had no idea how small these dorm rooms would end up being."
"I have many questions," Lee said. "For example, how the hell did they get that bed in here? That frame doesn't come apart."
"How do you know that?" Mineta asked from his tape cocoon."
"Secondly, Momo, this room's not small," Lee said. "Your room is the size of the average apartment."
Momo smiled sheepishly, shrugging. "Oops."
He sighed, walking the two feet into the room he could go before reaching the foot of the bed. Momo was lucky the door opened outward. "It's still a beautiful room, thanks to the furniture."
Momo's smile grew a bit more confident. "Thank you."
"I bet he likes them equally," Mina whispered to Toru, who snorted.
"Nope," Lee whispered. "This one's my favorite. I can fit my whole harem in that bed."
Both laughed, smacking him on the shoulder.
"Come on," Mina said. "Let's all head downstairs and vote on whose room was the best."
Everyone cheered and they all headed back downstairs, writing the name they were voting for on slips of paper and putting it in a box. Finally, Mina picked the box up and turned to them.
"Alright everybody!" Mina sang. "Has everyone got their votes in? Remember, you can't pick yourself guys!" She quickly counted out the votes silently. "And now, here are the votes of the first 'Best Room Competition!' Minus Bakugo and Su. Drumroll please!"
Lee held up his phone, an actual drumroll playing from it.
"With a total of five votes, the overwhelming winner of this totally awesome contest is...Rikido Sato!" Mina said.
Sato's jaw dropped as he pointed to himself.
"By the way, all the girls voted for you, because that cake was delicious!" Mina said, she and every other girl in the room, including Toru, drooling at the thought. "I want some more."
"That's why!?" Sato asked.
"You villain!" Denki and Mineta both shouted. "Aspiring heroes shouldn't resort to bribery!" They began to lightly punch at him, Sato fending them off with his arms.
"It wasn't on purpose!" Sato said, though he was trying not to laugh, which kind of weakened his argument. "What the heck?"
"Is it over?" Todoroki asked. "Can I sleep now?"
"Yes, and since you had cake, don't forget to brush your teeth," Iida said, miming doing so.
"Thanks for sticking it out," Midoriya said as Todoroki walked away.
Lee glanced over at Midoriya, realizing that he had his arms unbandaged now, revealing dark red skin on his right upper arm where his arm hadn't finished healing yet.
"Hey, Todoroki, wait a minute!" Uraraka called out, Todoroki turning back to her. "Deku and Iida, you too. Yaoyorozu, Kirishima, Lee, you have a sec? It's really important."
Lee sighed, understanding what was going on and nodding, the group in question walking over, following her outside.
"So, uh, where are we going?" Eijiro asked, only to stop, as did Lee, as he spotted Su standing outside.
"Right here," Uraraka said. "Su said she had something to tell everyone."
"You guys know I'm pretty straight forward, and always speak what's on my mind," Su said. "But sometimes, I don't know, I'm at a loss. Remember what I said back at the hospital? When you were talking about the rescue?"
"Yeah," Midoriya said. "Every word."
"My heart was hurting, and the things I said must have upset you," Su said, lowering her head.
"It's okay, Su," Uraraka said, stroking her back comfortingly.
"Despite my warning, you still went and saved Bakugo," Su continued, voice thick with emotion. "I didn't know that until this morning. I thought I'd stopped you, but it turns out I was worthless. A complete failure. And suddenly I had no idea what to say. I didn't think I deserved to joke around and have fun with everyone like usual. But..." she raised her head, letting the light expose her tears. "It made me so sad to be without you. That's why I wanted to talk to you, even if I'm still not sure how I'm supposed to be feeling. I wanted you to know so that we could talk and hangout and have a good time again." She began to cry, ribbiting as she usually did.
"It's not just you who thinks that," Uraraka said. "Everyone felt pretty bad and wanted things back the way they used to be before. That's why we did the room contest, to bring us closer together, and make us feel like a class again. It's all we could come up with, so please don't feel like we were trying to trick you or anything. Look, what I'm saying is..." she took a step forward, raising a fist and putting on a fake smile. "Let's all work hard at our training and be good friends again, okay?"
"Su!" Eijiro said, taking a few steps forward, eyes watering. "I'm sorry! Thanks for telling us how you feel!"
"It's okay!" Momo said.
"I apologize!" Iida said.
"You shouldn't feel bad," Todoroki said.
"Asu...Su," Midoriya said.
"Listen," Eijiro said, grabbing her by the shoulders as she began to cry. "I won't make you sad again!"
"Me either!" Momo agreed.
"We promise!" Iida said.
"From now on, we'll be model students," Lee said. "Just like Aizawa wants us to be, and just like we should have been from the beginning."
"Right!" Eijiro said.
They stayed outside, comforting Su for a while longer before all heading back inside, everyone heading to bed.
