Round One: School Competition
Lee sighed, testing his exoskeleton's flexibility and wincing. It was at reduced by at least half, and he had no way of knowing if it would withstand any kind of impact. Just then, Mera shouted in surprise.
"What!?" He shouted. "There were a hundred and twenty students taken down! A single person managed to do that in just one attack!?"
Lee's jaw dropped.
"That actually surprised me so much that I'm awake," Mera said brightly. "I assume we'll see a lot of people passing from now on. Everyone, let's get this out of the way so I can take a break. Good? Good."
Lee sighed. If someone had that kind of power, any kind of tournament battle would be hard. He sighed, dusting himself off and turned back to the Ketsubutsu students, preparing himself for whatever came next. He looked around, but frowned. The earthquake, and subsequent demolition of the surrounding area, had separated them. He was alone. He turned as several voice cheered and laughed. He quickly moved closer, peeking around a rock in time to see Mina barely managing to fend off a hail of incoming balls. Just as he arrived, the same long-haired boy as before hurled a handful of balls, which began to arc around behind Mina. Lee shot forward, catching them all and hurling them back at him, only for him to avoid them. He began to catching and return all of the other balls as well, and after a few seconds, they stopped being thrown. Lee skidded to a stop, watching them carefully.
"Are you alright?" Lee asked.
"Yes," Mina said. "What's the plan?"
"We're getting out of here," Lee said. "Are you ready?"
"Yeah," Mina said.
Lee spun, grabbing Mina and taking off, streaking between the rocks for a few seconds before skidding to a stop beside Toru, who was unconscious. Except, her shoes had fallen off, and he only knew she was still there was because her gloves were full and shifted slightly when he arrived. He set Mina down sighing.
Legacy, do it, Lee said.
Legacy allowed him to see Toru and he knelt, quickly slipping her shoes onto her before gently lifting her into his arms. He looked around before noticing a small gap in the rocks where a fallen chunk formed a sort of cave or lean-to.
"Over here," Lee said, quickly hurrying into it with Toru, Mina following.
"What's the plan?" Mina asked.
"We'll have to out smart them," Lee said, kneeling and shaking Toru gently while having Legacy stop him from seeing her, not that what he had seen wasn't already imprinted into his memory. "Toru, time to wake up."
Toru groaned, stirring slowly before gasping and covering herself.
"Don't worry," Lee said. "I can't see you."
Toru nodded and sat up, looking around. "What happened?"
"Shindo had a power that allowed him to vibrate the ground and break it apart," Lee said. "When I used my exoskeleton to see how strong the vibrations are, it also damaged it, so I'm not sure how long my exoskeleton will hold out."
"Can you fix it?" Mina asked.
"Not without Momo," Lee said. "And even if she were here, there's no time. We'd need to disassemble it to figure out what's broken first, then swap out the part and put it back together."
"Let's see, where are we at now?" Mera suddenly said. "Things have been moving a lot more quickly. Looks like fifty two, make that fifty three, have passed. And looking on the other side of things, it seems two hundred thirty examinees have failed. Less than half the spots are open. Now's the time to move. Don't dally kids."
Lee sighed. "Looks like we'll have to work fast. Mina, can you draw a few students in? It doesn't matter if there are too many. I'll worry about getting them set up for your points."
"Alright," Mina nodded.
She stepped out, carefully walking around a stone, seeing a large group of students heading toward them. "Oh crap! I knew I should have gone with him!" She ran back over to them and ducked into the cave. "I counted eight."
Lee nodded and shot out of the cave to hide behind a massive chunk of stone. After a moment, the other students arrived, balls in hand, only for Lee to speed out, tripping them all.
"Move!" Lee ordered.
Mina and Toru both scrambled out of the cave just as Lee spun his hands, forming a tornado and blowing all of the other students into the cave where they were spun around and around. Then, he dropped them. They all groaned, lying on their backs and struggling to not vomit and Mina, Lee, and Toru rushed in, each of them taking out two students, then Mina and Toru taking out the last two. Once they were done, they walked outside just as their targets beeped and flashed blue for a moment.
"Students who have passed the exam should congregate in the anteroom," a feminine voice said from their targets. "Chop, chop!"
"Which way's that?" Mina asked.
"Not sure," Lee said. "You two want a lift?"
Toru and Mina hesitated before nodding. Lee picked them both up and shot out of the destroyed area they were in. After a few minutes of running, they reached a hallway with a sign directing them to the anteroom. After a few minutes, they arrived and found that from their class, only Todoroki was present. They walked over and Mina and Toru sat on the bench with him while Lee leaned back against the wall.
"Took you long enough," Todoroki said.
"I wanted to help the rest of the class," Lee said. "But we got separated, so the three of us ended up having to do it ourselves."
"Well, you three made it, so it looks like you did well," Todoroki said.
"Yeah," Lee sighed, glancing at his exoskeleton. "I suppose."
"What's this I suppose stuff?" Mina asked. "You did great! You made a tornado by waving your hand in a circle! Twice!"
"Wait, you did what?" Todoroki asked.
"I just wave my hand fast enough that the friction heats the air and moves it in a circle, then the different temperatures start to move and chase each other and it creates a vortex," Lee sighed.
"You say that like it's not impressive!" Toru said.
Lee sighed, shrugging. "I guess."
Mina walked over, putting her hands on her hips and glowering up at him. "What's going on with you?"
"What do you mean?" Lee frowned.
"You've been moody and distant for days!" Mina said. "What's wrong?"
Lee sighed, looking off to the side, unable to look her in the eye. "Nothing. I'm just...trying to focus on the test."
"So we're just distractions?" Toru asked. "Fine. have it your way."
"We won't distract you anymore," Mina said.
They began to walk away and Lee opened his mouth to stop them, only to find he had nothing to say. He groaned miserably, sitting against the wall, resting his face in his hands.
"What's wrong, Lee?" Su's voice asked.
He looked up, seeing her walking over with Shoji, Momo and Kyoka walking over to talk to Mina and Toru. "It's nothing."
"He accidentally insinuated that Mina and Toru were distracting him from the exam, and they got mad," Todoroki said.
"What's going on with you three?" Su asked. "Actually, you four, since things have seemed weird with you and Yaoyorozu too."
"It's...complicated," Lee sighed. "It's really complicated."
Su cocked her head to the side. "They miss being around you, you know. Whatever's going on, they all still care about you."
"I know," Lee said miserably. "It's complicated."
Su nodded. "Alright. Just, try not to take too long to figure things out. Otherwise you'll end up hurting all three."
Lee nodded mutely and Su walked off to talk to the other girls while Shoji leaned against the wall beside Lee. Lee looked up at a screen that was displaying footage of the ongoing test, and as time passed, more and more students passed. Then, suddenly, Aoyama's navel laser shot into the sky. Other schools' students swarmed it, but at the same time as they did, the remaining students from One A arrived. Koda had birds swarm through the to distract them before Fumikage blocked off their escape routes. Then, Mineta began to rapidly hurl his hair balls around the area, trapping everyone. Then, it was a simple matter of everyone collecting points. Within seconds, all of One A had passed the exam. Lee smiled proudly. They did well. he was amazed their entire class had passed. The other students from One A who were in the room began to cheer, now including Uraraka, Midoriya, Sero, Denki, Eijiro, and Bakugo who definitely didn't cheer. Lee stood, heading to the back of the room where a magnetic key was located to remove the targets. He took them off, then walked over to a bench nearby, sitting down and again testing his exoskeleton's flexibility. It was getting worse. He shook his head slowly. Whatever the rest of the exam included, his exoskeleton would definitely not withstand it.
