If We Hold On Together was sung by Diana Ross, co-written by James Horner, Barry Mann, and Will Jennings. This song was originally featured in The Land Before Time.
This is for the ending of Shattered Faith. I've decided to include this song due to how beautiful it is. I'll be back someday with a new story for the Straw Hats, one that focuses on them trying to fix their relationship with Luffy. For now, this will have to suffice.
NOTE: Chapter 14- The Kind now has a One Piece opening song for this story. Check it out if you can!
(Song: "If We Hold On Together" by Diana Ross)
The song starts as Luffy sits on the figurehead, holding his straw hat and looking at the sun. Multiple people he knew appear as images next to the sun. Shanks, Ace, a young Sabo, Dadan, and Makino materialize as Luffy looks up, feeling downtrodden, and with green eyes.
Don't lose your way
With each passing day
You've come so far
Don't throw it away
A straw hat flew in the wind, as one memory played out in the sky. It featured Shanks giving a young Luffy a hat. A straw hat. The action made the boy who would be captain cry, though he tried hard not to.
Live believing
Dreams are for weaving
Wonders are waiting to start
The next memory showed Ace, Luffy, and Sabo as kids, playing pirates in a treehouse. Another one featured a devastating fire, then an angry Ashley grabbing an axe and attacking an older Luffy. Luffy had tried to dodge her, but then the image fades to the last one. This one had Ace leave his brother, setting off to become a pirate.
Live your story
Faith, hope, and glory
Hold to the truth in your heart
Now, the sky slowly turns orange as the Thousand Sunny is anchored in the sea of cherry blossoms in the Cherry Triangle. Luffy, showing his black beady eyes again, went off the figurehead to see Nami, who was at the helm.
If we hold on together
I know our dreams will never die
The camera cuts to Zoro, leaning on the railing and looking down at the ocean. He could see Kuina in the reflection, holding the Wado Ichimonji, smiling at Zoro. The swordsman smiled back to her, as the blossoms floated to cover her image.
Dreams see us through to forever
Where clouds roll by
For you and I
Usopp was sitting on the railing of the observation deck, arms crossed and sighing to himself. He gripped his arms tightly, with an image of his mother appearing next to him. Sanji was in the kitchen, disposing of his cigarette. A blonde woman was watching him, then vanished into the air, as the cook felt unnerved. He tried desperately to light another cigarette, with little success.
Souls in the wind
Must learn how to bend
Seek out a star
Hold on to the end
In the infirmary, Chopper adjusted the bed. A hand belonging to Dr. Hiriluk stirred along a page of an open book on Chopper's desk. The human doctor smiled, having seen his son for one more time. He disappeared in the air, taking the reindeer off guard.
Valley, mountain
There is a fountain
Washes our tears all away
Inside the library, Robin sits on the bench, reading to herself, but looks around the room, feeling like she's being watched. Outside of the ship, in the ocean, there is Jaguar D. Saul, with Nico Olivia sitting in the giant's shoulder, looking on with pride in them. Franky, finishing up on stitching up the torn sail in his weapon room, rests in a chair. Tom was behind him, admiring his work and new workshop.
Words are swaying
Someone is praying
Please let us come home to stay
In the men's dorms, Brook is sitting against a wall, slumped. He could see images of Yorki, the Rumbar Pirates, and Octaviana, his first love, in a lavender gown. He took off his hat and started to weep for them. Henley lays against a wall outside, thinking of his adopted father, Gibbs, a swordfish fish-man. He buried his head with his hands, lamenting to himself.
If we hold on together
I know our dreams will never die
The giant, blue sea snake, Cobalt, rises from the ocean to look at the sun. After catching a glimpse, he sinks back into the sea, as the G-13 base is shown next, with many battleships in the docks.
Dreams see us through to forever
Where clouds roll by
For you and I
On one ship, there is Beau-Père, wearing an arm cast for his left arm and some bandages, standing on the deck with his head down. He opened his eyes, having finished saying his peace to his sister, Belle-Mère. He then walked off of the empty vessel, as a breeze kicked in, letting his jacket flutter about.
When we are out there in the dark
We'll dream about the sun
The scene goes to a black void, with Luffy in the center, in chains, and without his hat. He drops down to the ground on his knees, with severe despair being his only blanket. He sobbed, letting tears stream down his face. Then, a light shines in front of him, making him look at it.
In the dark we'll feel the light
Warm our hearts, everyone
Nami walks in from the light wearing Luffy's hat, with a black eye and some bruises. There was a bit of blood dripping from her right shoulder as well. She bends down to him, putting the straw hat on his head. Luffy was surprised at Nami's actions, but felt at ease when Nami smiled for him. This made him smile too, despite the water leaking from his eyes.
If we hold on together
I know our dreams will never die
The black smog from the floor started dissipating, and the ground became a large stained glass painting, with Luffy's friends and allies up from the East Blue to the Grand Line making up the content. The chains on Luffy disappeared. He was suddenly hugged by Nami, who stunned him with the action.
Dreams see us through to forever
As high as souls can fly
Where clouds roll by
For you and I
This final scene shows Nami, having a bandage over her right shoulder and a medical eye patch, embracing Luffy in the middle of the deck. The captain grinned as orchid-colored static electricity coat him and Nami, even around the ship! After the electricity dissipated, he let go, seeing Nami's sweet smile, he looked out at the sea of blue and pink.
The song ends as he places his right hand up to where his heart is as the Straw Hats' Jolly Roger flutters in the background.
