A/N: So, I know I have not written in a while. Its been almost two years. So, I apologize. I have been writing quite a lot, as I explained in the author's note in the last chapter, and haven't been doing so on my fanfictions. So, here I am apologizing and, well, not necessarily promising to do better, but I will attempt to get a chapter for one of my fanfictions out at least once a week, though it might be once a month depending on what's happening IRL. Anyways, yes I was aware that Mineta was expelled, and I explained why he was still around in this chapter. I also hope to help explain why Midoriya's personality seems to change so much. Or at least hint. I do have some plans for this you know, I am not just going out and writing willy nilly. Anyways, thank you for coming back to return readers and I welcome new readers. I hope you enjoy it. Also, before I introduce the new student replacing Mineta, I hope you don't have a problem with OCs.
Chapter 5
"You in position?" Midoriya whispered into his headset.
"Yeah, I'm ready," Bakugou replied, earning a grin from Midoriya, he could hear the smirk on his voice.
"Alright, get ready. I know where they are, we were right, they're coming in through the back door." Midoriya tuned out Bakugou's grunt of confirmation and prepared his quirk. He reached into the shadows around him, deep from the lack of light. He drew them closer to himself and submerged himself, becoming one. He knew he was now practically invisible to the naked eye, and soon the door to the building was opened and Momo walked in, her eyes glowing green with night vision goggles as she aimed- oh shit was that a Glock? Night vision? He held his breath, hoping that the shadows wouldn't seem abnormal to the green tint of night vision. Momo's eyes glanced over his position, before looking away. Tsuyu came out from behind her, following her deeper into the building.
Midoriya let out the breath he was holding. He wasn't expecting a gun. It was probably rubber bullets, but he knew those would hurt. He put a hand up to his headset.
"They're coming your way Bakugou, get ready." he waited for a second, sensing their auras go around the corner. "Now."
"Eat shit fuckers!" he heard over the line and he sighed, followed by the sound of an explosion. "Flash Grenade!" Immediately Midoriya ran out of his position, appearing behind the now blinded and deaf duo, pushing out his hand.
"Rib Cage!" and out of his palm came spikes of bones in the shape of a rib cage, surrounding the closest girl to him, Momo, and trapping her in a cage of bone, which immediately tightened. He wrapped her up with the capture tape he held in his other hand.
"Villain team wins!" he heard All Might over the intercom and he grinned, seeing Bakugou with Tsuyu wrapped up as well.
"Good match, Momo," Midoriya smiled. Momo smiled back, though her eyes were slightly squinted.
"What?"
Midoriya laughed and together the four walked back into the monitoring room. Immediately Midoriya and Bakugou were swarmed.
"Midoriya that was so manly!" Kirishima exclaimed, a shark grin spreading across his face. "Those bones were so cool! And with how well you blended into those shadows, it was awesome! Bakubro, that flashbang was cool as well!"
"Midori! That was so good!" Mina exclaimed, grinning.
"As expected of our class rep," Tenya said, adjusting his glasses.
"Yaomomo, good idea with the night vision, but was the gun really necessary?" joked Jirou.
"Enough!" All Might exclaimed, and everyone finally calmed down. They returned to where they were observing. "All right, can anyone tell me who was MVP?" he asked the class. Momo and Midoriya raised their hands.
"Yes, Young Yaoyorozu?"
"I believe it was Izuku, sir. He came up with the plan and executed it perfectly. With my night vision goggles, it was even more potent, and I believe he also likely predicted our opening. He knew that I required time to create new objects, so he took advantage of that. We were outmatched."
"What? No, it was Bakugou, who was MVP, without him it wouldn't have worked at all! I didn't predict anything-" Protested Midoriya
"No, I agree, you were the MVP, nerd. And Yaoyorozu was right, you did predict everything, except maybe the gun." Bakugou huffed. Midoriya rubbed the back of his head.
"Yeah, the gun was unexpected. Good thinking though, Momo. Rubber bullets?"
"Rubber?" Midoriya paled, "Kidding," Momo giggled. Midoriya sighed.
"Good, yes, Young Midoriya was MVP of that match. The next match will be Young Todoroki and Young Ojirou as the villains versus Young Jirou and Young Kirishima. Good luck."
The four left to go to the battle simulation area, and Momo leaned over to Midoriya.
"So, who do you think is gonna win? I feel it will be Todoroki and Orjirou though." Midoriya nodded.
"I agree, though the hero team could win if they play their cards right. Kirishima's quirk is Hardening, while Jirou's is Headphone Jack, which allows her to do multiple things, however, I am assuming those boots of hers are speakers, which could act like Present Mics quirk. If she uses those, Todoroki's quirk could be blasted apart while Kirishima goes against Ojirou, taking his hits. Also, Jirou will know exactly where the bomb is. I wonder who will win," he dissolved into a puddle of muttering, earning a smile from Momo and a tiny smirk from Bakugou, who nudged him.
"Nerd, you're mumbling again."
"Oh! Sorry…" he looked down, twiddling his thumbs.
"Villain team wins!" Midoriya looked up and frowned. It looked like Todoroki froze them before Jirou could use her speakers. Unfortunate.
The rest of the class went by relatively simply. Midoriya loved taking notes of his classmates' quirks and ideas on how they might work. Of course, Bakugou teased him relentlessly about it, though not with the anger and hatred he would have had before. Midoriya was grateful for that.
Their group of friends walked out the gate of U.A talking amicably together. Momo and Izuku were deep in a conversation about nerd stuff, with Bakugou occasionally offering some input. He was smart, he just didn't like being associated with being a nerd. Tsundere. Midoriya eventually brought up an interesting question.
"Hey, wasn't Mineta expelled?"
"Oh, I talked to Aizawa-sensei about that. It takes a while to expel someone, especially when they go to such a prestigious school. Mineta's parents weren't very happy about it and tried to fight it. So anyway, he should be gone by tomorrow." Momo explained. Midoriya nodded, before his expression darkened a bit, something that did not match his adorable face.
"I am glad, I really dislike perverts." He mumbled, glaring at the ground. Bakugou looked over at him curiously. He has never seen Midoriya act like this before. His panic attacks rarely were as bad as they have been recently either. Or at least the ones he has witnessed. Midoriya never had an issue with crowds too. Weird.
"Hey, Izuku, have you noticed that you've been changing a lot recently? You seem to be having mood swings or something." He brought it up. Midoriya blinked at him.
"Really? I guess…" he started mumbling to himself. Midoriya never noticed, but yeah, sure he was extremely nervous before, but he has never panicked that bad before. He cries a lot, but he never, well. He never had to completely separate himself for a long time. And the day of the entrance exam, he was extremely confident and outgoing, completely unlike him. Did it have something to do with his quirk?
"It's probably just puberty," Bakugou says with a smirk. Izuku shoots him a mock glare, before smiling softly.
"Well, it only occurred after I-" he cuts himself off. Momo didn't know that he hasn't had his quirk all that long, and he really, really didn't want to explain to her how it awakened. God knows his mother didn't know the truth. He hoped it stayed that way. He coughed. Bakugou picked up on his hesitancy and correctly guessed why. He played very slightly before changing topics. Midoriya was grateful for that.
That night Midoriya was dreaming again. This time, things were a bit more clear. He was standing alone in the dark, his skin bare to the world. Suddenly, the darkness was replaced with a blinding light, before fading out. He was standing in a bar, now, standing behind the counter where the bartender usually would sit. He seemed to be cleaning a cup. Sat in front of him was a young man, a faded blue colored hair pooling around his shoulders and his lips were in desperate need of chapstick, a scar going over one of his lips. If he wasn't completely covered in wrinkles from sleep deprivation and if his lips weren't so chapped, he might have been called attractive. Might have. He was speaking to Midoriya.
"Tomorrow. Oh, I am so excited. The final boss will finally be defeated! This dungeon will be the easiest thing ever, especially thanks to the buffs Sensei has given us. Our secret weapon. All Might won't know what hit him. What do you think, Kurogiri?" The man grinned. Midoriya felt himself speak, though it was weird. He didn't feel any lips moving.
"I think we shall succeed, Shigaraki Tomura. Tomorrow, All Might shall die." Shigaraki grinned and started laughing out loud before the room went dark once again. Midoriya felt himself panic a little. Did they want to kill All Might? How, what, why? He's All Might!
Midoriya sat up quickly in bed, sweat draped over him like a cloak, drenching his sheets as he breathed heavily. That dream… Why did it feel so real? Was it real? Maybe a part of his quirk? How? A quirk simply didn't branch out as much as he did. What was the common factor? Every quirk had something binding it together. He couldn't just have mind-reading, regeneration, bone, shadow, and blood manipulation, and the ability to sap people's strength from them. Quirks just wouldn't allow it! Midoriya looked at the time. 2:00 AM.
Midoriya got out of bed, resigned to not getting any sleep for the night, and decided to hop onto the computer to see if there were any tying common factors. Mythology maybe? There were dragon quirks, and Midoriya even heard of a Greek Pro Hero who had a quirk that emulated all the abilities of the mythological Greek God Poseidon. Though quirks that had something related to mythology were often rare and powerful, maybe Izuku had one?
Blood and Bone Quirks. Midoriya began his search for things similar to his own. But even then, they all only could manipulate one of the two, unless they were a body quirk. But that didn't explain the shadow manipulation or the mind-reading. Or the sapping of strength. A vampire maybe? But he didn't need to drink blood. He kept searching and searching until he found it.
"A Reaper or Necromancer. There's Reaper lore in pretty much every culture on Earth. It goes by 100 different names. There may be more than one of them. Reapers stop time. You can only see them when they're coming for you. Sometimes Reapers are depicted as beings of shadow who steal the souls of the damned, other times their ferrymen who guide souls to the afterlife. Sometimes they can raise legions of the dead to serve them. Sometimes they manipulate the very body of mortals to their whims."
Oh. So that's it, huh? Out of all the things Midoriya has searched, only this came close. A Reaper. Necromancer. But Midoriya couldn't raise the dead to fight for him, could he? But… he never tried. And the soul-stealing would explain the strength-sapping. Because it wasn't just strength that he sapped from people, it was vitality, speed, cognition, everything was enhanced. Whenever he sapped strength from someone, time seemed to slow.
Midoriya let out a shaky breath. So his quirk wasn't Umbrakinisis, huh. Reaper. That's it. But he refuses to acknowledge it. Not until he is sure. He has to know. Midoriya quickly got dressed and snuck out of the house. He let out a shaky breath again and began his journey.
It took an hour, but he made it. He should have enough time to test it then get home and get ready for school. The Musutafu cemetery. Kami, forgive me for what I am about to do. Midoriya walked forward. He gulped. He could see auras in the ground. Black auras. He gagged. He could sense corpses too. He never noticed, but… Midoriya shivered. The April air was freezing at 3 am. Midoriya took a deep breath and focused on the corpses. Then he… he pulled. And out of the ground came a black mist that condensed into a black skeleton, the black mist filling the rib cage and floating lazily around it. Purple flames filled the eye socket and it looked towards Midoriya, expectantly. Or at least as expectantly as a skeleton could.
Midoriya vomited.
