Good day to all! I'm back with another chapter for you all as things start getting tense. Ainz is now aware of everyone and the plot thickens. In this chapter characters are introduced and I have a few that I'm going to be spending a lot of time giving personality. If you see character issues or storytelling mistakes please let me know so I can work on them.
For all of those interested I am working on a light novel, hence the time between chapters, that and my other fanfic, and I can post story elements and excerpts at the end of these if you would like to see that then please let me know in the reviews as well as critic the fanfic. Please keep it constructive by providing a way it could be better and once again thank you all for reading! I am motivated by you all, you're amazing!
I do not own either of these franchises and would never claim to do so.
Berenice Gabielli, formerly Sternritter Q, the Question, was sitting in the lounge that was shared among herself and her fellow unit commanders. Since she was in charge of her own unit, the Inquisitors, she only had to report to Kurosaki, however that did not ease her mind at all. She had been brought back to life along with many of her comrades from under Yhwach but instead of Yhwach they had to follow Kurosaki and Aizen. The orange-haired kid may have killed Yhwach but she wanted to know how. He was on the special war potentials and because of his ability to grow and adapt. Did he adapt to the Almighty? However he did it she could feel the power of the Almighty when he unleashed his spiritual pressure on them and it sent shivers down her spine.
"So you're here too?" Berenice left her musings to discover the source of the rhetorical question. Quilge Opie had entered the room and taken a seat across from her. Nodding in acknowledgement moved to resume her train of thought before she was interrupted yet again.
"What happened to you?" She didn't have to read too far into the question to understand what the Jail was getting at. Leaning back she propped up her feet on a coffee table that sat in the center of the lounge.
"Well you could say that I was visiting a friend and his murderer. We didn't get along too well." Quilge attempted, and failed, to hold back a chuckle.
"So that's how it was, to be fair I didn't fare any better." This piqued her interest,
"Oh?" Quilge simply nodded in response to her inquiry.
"Indeed, I held Kurosaki in Hueco Mundo for a considerable amount of time but then he broke out, if what I saw is to be believed he must have Quincy blood in him. He used Blut Vene against my Jail and he fled however I almost had him again before somebody killed me from behind. Not the most elegant death. Better than yours it would seem." She could only giggle inside as she maintained her aloof exterior appearance.
"Che, you should have made a counter for that, instead of just sealing him you should have just killed him on the spot, he was strong then but I doubt it would have taken too much out of you." Quilge mulled over her words for a moment before accepting the comment as a compliment.
"That may have worked. It would seem, if the Heat is to be believed then Yhwach betrayed us either way so maybe it was for the best that I gave him my strength earlier than have to come to terms with the auswahlen." She could only nod, she had been so isolated with the training of her soldat that she hadn't heard news of this till now. If that's the case then maybe it was good that Kurosaki had killed Yhwach. Shaking those thoughts from her mind she set her sights forward.
"Do you think Kurosaki will be any different?" The former Jail brought a hand to his chin in thought before sighing.
"I can't know for sure, we have been given our schrifts back and our Vollstandig but he is with Aizen of all people so if that is any indicator then he may be no different and for all intents and purposes he might just be a puppet at the tip of Aizen's fingers. For now the best course of action is to just move forward with caution and see how events play out. However I have sent spies around to keep tabs on the hollows as well as the other quincy here so maybe we'll be able to glean more information as time goes on from them." Berenice nodded in acceptance of his words.
"I'll allow you access to my inquisitors as long as you help me."
"Then it's agreed. This conversation never happened." Berenice couldn't help the smile that crawled across her features after Quilge had vanished in Hirenkyaku. This was going to be so much fun.
Kneeling before Aizen was a figure surrounded in black. The figure's small frame was accented as they kneeled low before the madman. His soft smile deceiving any who might look upon it.
"What have you to report Stinger?" The figure seemed to shiver in response. Voice quivering in barely restrained anger.
"It would appear that the quincy command is unhappy with your presence. Lord Ichigo is a common ally of the hollows and quincy. He is accepted, you, however, are not Sir." Aizen sat down after the report and leaned back in his chair, propping his leg up as he continued to look down on the individual kneeling before him.
"Thank you for the report Stinger. If I need you, I will call. Now return to your chamber." With a low bow the figure vanished in shunpo. The cheshire grin that had sprouted across his face was now the dominant feature.
"I'll have to thank Szayel, he has outdone himself."
Slowly removing his mask, Ainz glared at the cowering humans before him. They had not heeded his warnings. They had not accepted their fate and when they knew they had lost they tried to grovel and beg for mercy. All after insulting his name, his protection of the town of Carne village and underestimating him.
"What was that you said to Gazef, cease your futile resistance and just lay down like a good dog. As an act of mercy, I'll make sure your death is painless!" It took all of a few seconds to kill the mages and send Nigun back to Nazarick.
Before the pair could head on their way a small explosion caught their attention off by the treeline. Albedo moved into a defensive stance and Ainz simply observed the 4 figures that stood in observation. Their features were striking, a large variety of hair colors with red, orange, blue and black. He held his arm out and Albedo calmed down as the orange haired one approached Ainz. Ainz attempted to read his MP but what he saw told him that this was unlike those smallfry he had just beaten. This man was a being of nigh, equal MP to his own. Now that was not the determining factor in PVP however he had to keep that fact in mind before he started a fight.
"Good evening, my name is Kurosaki, Ichigo. Pleasure to make your acquaintance." When Kurosaki had finally reached the two he introduced himself and Ainz was convinced that he was from another world, that name was too japanese to just be a coincidence. No wonder he was this powerful, however he wasn't from his guild, maybe another person that got stuck after the cancellation of Yggdrasil.
"Well met Kurosaki, I am Ainz Ooal Gown but please. Call me Ainz." Carefully watching the orangettes gaze, Ainz took great care to not let any detail leave unseen. The young man looked around his own age. Maybe friendship can be made. He did appear to have strong allies.
"You must forgive my subordinate, he gets a bit reckless and managed to leave our base without proper supervision." Ainz nodded in understanding.
"You are forgiven, however I do wish to know something. Are you from Japan?" Ainz couldn't help the smile form internally at the reaction Ichigo gave. Albedo was giving him an odd look, he would have to deal with that at a later point in time. For now he needed to discern whether this man was a friend or an enemy, he was not one of his old comrades so his previous hesitation and desire to bring him back to the guild had vanished. He did not have the years of trust with this Ichigo as he did with his old comrades.
After composing himself Ichigo responded to the question.
"Indeed I am from Japan, I do not recall there being any undead in Japan that act like you though." Albedo was about to interrupt but Ainz raised a hand and silenced her.
"But you are familiar with undead are you not? Or were your words misleading?" Ichigo took a moment to think about the further questions.
"There are undead but I have only seen one that held a fully bone body and he is now dead." This Ichigo sounds like he or someone he knew had killed this other Eldarlich. Although he did not refer to the game so maybe this is someone from another world that is unlike his own. That thought required further explanation, if that was the case then Ichigo is a complete unknown to Ainz and just the thought of that sent chills of fear down his exposed spine.
"That is intriguing. Before I part ways with you I would give you a warning, this town is protected by the name of Ainz Ooal Gown. Do not attack it or I will kill you." He put his aura into it and Ainz could swear that Albedo was shaking to an extent however it didn't seem to have an effect on Ichigo. It would appear the orangette was stronger mentally than originally guessed. He would have to plan out his next move with caution in mind.
"Very well, I'll keep your words in mind." After giving a low bow, Ichigo turned about and vanished with his underlings at a speed Ainz could barely follow. The only thing that Ainz could put into words after seeing their speed without the aid of spells was 'fast'.
"You idiots!" Ichigo smacked Grimmjow upside the head once more. The panther frowned as Ichigo admonished him for his actions.
"Do you have any idea what could have happened to you if you had attacked him, you would have died!" Pinching the bridge of his nose the orangette let out a deep sigh.
"Yeah, yeah. I know, could've died, yadda yadda. Get over yourself Ichigo. I'm not the weakling you beat with just your bankai, I've gotten my segunda etapa and you're even more powerful. I could've taken him had you let me."
"That's not the point, that lich had more than double the reiatsu of a captain. He was at the level of Yamamoto. You couldn't take him even if you had your segunda etapa. The only people able to actually compete against his raw strength are myself, Aizen and the guard and even then that's not taking into consideration the tactics and experience that he may possess that might give him the edge even against the guard. It would be best if we avoid hostilities against him. You would be able to take the warrior that accompanied him though."
"Che," Grimmjow still wasn't convinced. Ichigo closed his eyes before continuing. There would be no argument that he could come up with that would not leave room for Grimmjow to argue with him.
"Now, I expect a full report within the day. I want one from each of you as all three of you observed Mr. Ainz' display of power over the humans before I arrived. You're dismissed." Waving them off, Ichigo made note of the gazes of disdain from Bazz and Bambi however it did not bother him too much. They would learn and if it took them getting beat up a little bit then he didn't pay it too much mind.
Ichigo had gone over the report from the soldat not too long before he left to deal with the Grimmjow incident and had already ordered Szayel to produce standard attire that would fit the themes of this world. Simple ware that they could use when scouting out the various towns and kingdoms that dotted this world. What he also needed was a map, perhaps he would send out those two soldat since they have experience now. Once they acquire more of said experience they would prove valuable in briefing the nature of the various towns and also provide good training instructors for when children eventually start to populate the area.
Ichigo put a hand on his chin. He pondered his next words before acting.
"Aizen?" He called out to the empty room, it didn't take long to get a response. Stepping out of the shadows was the man Ichigo had called out for. Glasses gleamed in the false sunlight filtering through the windows.
"Yes Ichigo?" That smile bothered Ichigo, Aizen was up to something and Ichigo needed to know what exactly that something was, however this took precedence.
"You are aware that we will be running into a housing situation are you not?" Aizen nodded and adjusted his spectacles before responding to the inquiry.
"Indeed I am, I already have Szayel and his subordinate working on constructing a vast city around the underground complex. It will be in rings, there will also be an above ground settlement but that will be solely for the farming and will consist of only that aspect of production and the housing necessary for the production we require." Ichigo gave a slight nod. So Aizen was a step ahead as always. He needed to find something to hold Aizen down. He's been scheming, might as well try asking.
"Aizen, have you been scheming behind my back?" It sounded dumb but what was Aizen going to do, lie and prove Ichigo right or tell the truth?
"Yes I am, however if I say any more then that would be telling." The smirk was all Ichigo needed to see before he put that situation to rest. Whatever it was it wasn't negative to him, yet. If that was the case then it wasn't something to be worried about, regardless even if it was a plan to go behind Ichigo's back then what all could Aizen do to beat him or restrain him. Nothing. There was nothing the madman could do that could harm him so Ichigo decided to relax and just roll with the punches. See what life had in store for him.
Lille sat in his study going over the reports from Grimmjow and his group before he passed them onto Ichigo. He had to correct much of their writing and adjust grammar but overall it wasn't the most tedious task he had been asked to accomplish.
"What do you want J?" Quilge bowed as he entered the room. He had been surprised at being found out. Lille didn't even act surprised. He wasn't about to play any games that the other sternritter wanted to play. He had greater plans to take care of as it was.
"I would be shocked but the X-Axis was his majesty's bodyguard for a reason." Lille scoffed.
"Don't waste my time J. State your business and leave. I have important work to do." Quilge frowned behind Lille's back before regaining his composure.
"Very well, I came to inform you that a little birdie flew into my cage and oh did it sing for me. It sang a song of conspiracy and my worry is what if that song was sung to his majesty? I doubt he would be so kind as to overlook heresy within his domain, don't you think Lille?"
The former leader of the Schutzstaffel grit his teeth. The snake backed him into a corner. Maintaining his composure was key in this situation, he had to show that he wasn't going to accept being toyed with. He still held a position of power over the J. After a moment's hesitation Lille resumed his paperwork, never once looking up to Quilge.
"What of it? I'm sure the lords are fully aware of all that is happening within this complex and I am sure that if enemies were found within this glorious kingdom that the lords would have them dealt with accordingly." Lille could feel Quilge tense up in a moment of anger before he relaxed.
"I merely wished to inform you of the dealings within the Nachtreich. Nothing more." With a curt bow Quilge exited the room leaving a puzzled Lille. How could Quilge have knowledge of the plan, nobody spoke to him, he wasn't sensed nearby, was he the shadow? Too many questions and not enough answers.
"Would you stop pacing? You're making me nervous." Stefan about faced and sat down beside the equally anxious Bridgette. They were currently sitting outside Liltotto's office as they waited to report in.
A soldat stepped out and ushered Bridgette and Stefan into a small office that was spartan in nature. Sitting in the middle of the room was a desk that held reports that almost hid the lithe form of their boss.
"Thank you for coming as quickly as you have." Sliding across manilla folders to both, Liltotto sighed as their eyes grew wide. Before they asked she continued. "You both will be sent up for early promotions and we have another mission for you. We need scouts to assess the defenses of the person identified within these reports." Passing another folder across to the two soldat, Liltotto dismissed them.
Once outside the office Stefan pumped his fist in excitement. They were finally getting noticed by the higher ups.
"You hear what she said?" Stefan had grabbed onto Bridgette's arm like a child and she had to fight the urge to punch him in the face. Somehow she managed to maintain her composure and just shove the over excited soldat off of her.
"Yes but did you forget she just said the promotion would be sent up, it hasn't been approved yet ya know?" Stefan shook his head in response.
"I couldn't care less about the promotion, I'm giddy about the mission! We're going to investigate the powerful people. That means Lord Ichigo has faith in our abilities!" Bridgette couldn't help the small amount of red that creeped into her cheeks. Shaking her head she brought her mind back to reason.
"Or he thinks we're expendable. We're low ranking, I don't even understand why they had us come all the way up to Commander Liltotto, we could have just as easily been tasked out by our Sergeant or even Corporal."
"You worry too much Bridge!" Stefan waved off her concerns and as Bridgette thought over his words, he did make a few good points. Maybe it was best not to really think about it too hard. After all, they did successfully complete their last mission and were some of the most experienced in this world at this point in time.
"Still think you're taking this too much in stride, we can't throw caution to the wind cause we got a few bonus points." Her friend barely acknowledged her counter and she chose to drop it in exchange for prep. First things first, food.
Lille leisurely made his way to Askin's room. Upon entering he was met with a few familiar faces. Quilge and Berenice were waiting along with Askin. He carefully observed Quilge after recalling how peculiar he had acted during that encounter.
"Great, now that everyone is here, let's talk about our favorite Lord, Aizen." Everyone's attention was drawn to Askin after he addressed the group. "I'm sure we're all in agreement that he's messing with all of us?"
"Indeed, either he or one of his minions visited me in my office, disguised as the J." Quilge barely let his shock show but it was enough of a reaction for Lille to be sure that it wasn't him and that he was who he claimed to be.
"If that is true then he could play the part of any one of us, how would we be able to tell if we were ourselves?" Askin nodded at the question.
"Already got you Quilge, we all have a code that we use around each other with special phrases that we'll use to identify each other and if one of us does not know what the code is then we know that they're either Aizen or another hidden spy and we just don't talk around them." Watching each of the other quincy with caution, Lille focused on Berenice who had yet to speak during the entire session.
"What do you think, Q?" Addressing her and calling her out, he could see that she wasn't comfortable, maybe they had a spy already among them. Collecting herself she let a grin settle on her face.
"Sounds devious, I'm in. However I must ask, wouldn't the code fail?" Askin frowned. Lille took her words and was slowly putting the puzzle together. "If the Daten is to still be trusted then he could just slowly piece it together, he does still have his skills even if he's supposedly working with us. It wouldn't make sense for him to not keep tabs on us. Hell, what's to say he's not listening in on this very conversation right now? Nothing. I say we piece the code and have our own between each of us that's unique to each person so it's harder to piece together and also come up with other tests for each other that are individualized and not standard."
"I'm surprised you put so much thought into this? Sure you aren't a spy Bri?" Askin barely dodged the arrow that had hit the wall behind him. Berenice dissolved her bow and sat back down.
"I have to think about these things due to leading the Inquisitors. It's my job to think like Aizen and if I can think of it then so can he. There's nothing we can do to stop him from breaking our codes after time so the best thing we can do is stall for time. As much as we need to be ready and advance." Lille was liking where she was thinking and the fact that she planned that far ahead. He was actually kinda proud of her. He'd recommend her for a position among the Elite Guard with that foresight but she seemed to be perfect right where she was, almost as if it was foreseen.
The thought hit Lille like a ton of bricks and he froze for a moment, long enough to know that he couldn't be mistaken and that it might just be true. If his theory was true then maybe, just maybe. He smirked. So this was all a part of an elaborate plan. He could appreciate that, even if he was the closest to godhood he felt Berenice would figure it out in time and Askin wouldn't be far behind. Once they realized then it would be over so he would play their game and allow Ichigo's plan to move forward.
At this moment Ichigo had gained a lot of respect and surprisingly Aizen had done so as well. It was perfect.
Grimmjow stepped into the training arena. It was a massive dome that put Las Noches' artificial ceiling to shame. The barren landscape provided the perfect area to fight and unleash massive amounts of reiatsu.
A figure standing at the far end greeted his arrival with a wave. At this distance Grimmjow could barely make out who it was. Dirt and stone were blasted away as the panther took off in sonido.
Closing the distance with haste, Grimmjow appeared before the individual that had summoned him.
"Askin Nakk Le Vaar." The Quincy bowed low to his Hollow acquaintance.
"We meet again, although I fear our meeting will have to be much more concise than before. I really do hate wasting peoples time." Grimmjow grit his teeth.
"You're already wasting your time, get out with it." Askin feigned hurt as he let a smile slip onto his features.
"Quite. Let me cut to the chase my feline friend. I need your help." Grimmjow scoffed at the Quincy.
"What could you possibly need my help with? Not that I want anything to do with it." The panther crossed his arms as Askin deflated.
"Alright, guess it was worth a shot." Turning his back to Grimmjow, Askin sent a wave behind him. "Guess we'll just go fight Aizen by ourselves. Without you."
His attention now peaked, he appeared in front of Askin.
"What did you say?" Askin sighed and spoke slowly.
"I'm going to fight Aizen, you said you weren't interested so I guess we'll just have to leave you out." Pushing passed Grimmjow, Askin smirked as he felt a hand on his shoulder.
"You better not, not without us." The death dealing hid his smirk and faced the panther once more.
"Can you really speak for all of the rest?" He could see the hesitation in the panthers eyes.
"We have our reasons for hating him and I'm sure you have your own as well. We'll fight with you, if only this once." Askin held out a hand.
"I'm sure we have more in common than you think." Grimmjow dismissed the Quincy's remark and took the offered hand.
