No fucking way! Ben thought as he turned to completely face the limousine window. That can't be her!
And yet, there she was.
After arriving to the front entrance of the school, Ben had glanced out of the window for just a brief moment when he caught sight of a familiar figure. It was the same princess from his dream with a silver tiara placed in her purple hair. Standing around here were three teens about her age, but with questionable choices in color scheme for clothing. The other girl wore a simple, royal blue dress that matched her royal blue hair, where a gold tiara with red jewels rested in her hair. The oldest teen boy wore a mixture of orange and red, wearing a muscle shirt to show off his biceps. The youngest boy, probably a year or so younger, had curly white hair while his clothing where black and white with just a 'splash' of red, almost like a dalmatian.
Parking the vehicle, Hades announced, "We're here. Don't worry about your bags. Someone will retrieve them and take them to your room. Try not to fall when you climb out."
Heeding the king's advice, the group tried to be as careful as they could as they exited the vehicle, though some did push the others out of the way so he could be first. Almost like instant karma, Chad fell face first on the pavement, eliciting a few laughs from Lonnie and Doug at seeing his misery. When the three mentioned before exited the vehicle, Ben stepped out next to help the remaining girls. Audrey climbed out with no problems, but Ben had to steady Jane since she was clutching Dude in her arms like her life depended on it. It was a wonder why the dog hadn't made a squeak of discomfort yet.
When he exited the driver seat, Hades came around the vehicle with the other children as he gazed around at the entrance. Sighing when he noticed no other students were there to greet the Isle children, Hades encouraged, "Although not many are here, this is a momentous occasion. It's—"
"The day we show six people where the bathrooms are!" the purple-haired princess proclaimed in a lavishly official tone, almost mocking in a way.
Caught off guard from hearing the declaration, Ben couldn't help the genuine laugh that escaped his lips. Those that came with him from the Isle stared at him in surprise. That was the first time they had ever heard him do such a thing. They didn't think he knew how to laugh, whether it was evil or not.
Smiling at the reaction, the girl wondered teasingly, "Over the top?"
"Just a little bit," Ben agreed as he smiled; another unforeseen concept he has never done before! "You've made it up with your first impression."
"I'm glad to hear it." The girl held out her hand to Ben. "I'm Mal, daughter of Queen Maleficent and King Hades."
Cautiously, Ben extended his arm out to shake the princess's hand. "Ben," he greeted. "I'm . . . just 'Ben'."
Although she found the particular phrase curious, Mal decided to ignore it for a moment as she gestured to the three next to her. "These are my friends: Princess Evie, Jay, and Carlos. In a few moments each of us will take a couple of you on a tour of the campus."
Before more could be said, there was a light 'cawing' noise coming from above. When they adverted their gazes to the particular direction, they noticed a peculiar raven circling around them.
"Diaval," Mal acknowledged as she regarded her father with a look of worry in her eyes. "Do you think it's something serious?"
"Hopefully not. I'll have him find you if necessary," Hades promised before he turned his attention to the new students. "Do you have any questions for me before I go?"
"I do," Chad stubbornly claimed. "What kind of perks do the three of us"—he gestured to himself, Audrey, and Ben—"get for being royalty?"
The three friends looked at the daughter and father for the answer, wondering how they would break the news. They appeared tense, almost as though they knew the teenager wouldn't like the answer.
"I'm so sorry," Mal sincerely apologized. "But your families have no royal status in Auradon."
"We are working with the other monarchs to change that," Hades quickly reassured. "Your parents and grandparents did horrendous deeds that made your statuses not valid in Auradon. Nonetheless, Audrey and Ben, we did manage to move some living situations around so you two can each have your own room as a way to compensate you for the status removal."
"What about me!" Chad demanded. "My status is gone too!"
Hades narrowed his eyes at the impatient boy. "But you need to learn to be selfless and to share," the king reminded. "If I recall correctly, your mother wanted everything and believed she deserved to have anything she wanted. We assumed you would be the same, so you will share a room with Doug so you can start to learn to not be selfish. If you want to complain, I'm sure my daughter or I can find a suitable replacement for you. I've heard from many people that 'Aziz' would have been a better option."
Bitterness overtook Chad when he heard the other teen's name, though he reluctantly stayed quiet in his attempt to get the subject over with. However, someone just had to ask—
"What about Ben's status?" Lonnie wondered, ignoring the glares she received from said boy. "He's the 'Prince of the Isle'."
The four Auradon residents whipped their heads to the boy in question, surprised to hear the statement. "It's just a stupid title," Ben explained as his glare sharpened on his friend. "I was given it because I lost my temper on my friend and everyone heard about it."
"Considering what Aziz did, I wouldn't call him much of a friend," Lonnie retorted offhandedly.
"Enough," Hades intervened to prevent a full-on argument. "If he wishes, Ben's title will remain. If not, then we won't refer to him as such. Now, I really need to go before my wife sends Cerberus to find me."
Mal snickered as she recalled, "You had bite marks on your arm for weeks and the bump on your head didn't go down for months!"
"And I don't want to look like that for your coronation," Hades insisted before placing a loving kiss on his daughter's forehead. "I'll see you soon, Mali."
As his daughter smiled at the affection, Hades almost impatiently hurried off to see his wife. They had a suspicion regarding Maleficent's recent illness and hoped it would be true. However, if it's true and Mal finds out, this 'illness' may delay her coronation. . .
"So, you're the son of Beast," Mal presumed before she tilted her head curiously. "Does he shed much?"
"Eh." Ben shrugged carelessly at the question, joking, "He doesn't get on the couch."
The four friends allowed themselves to chuckle lightly at the harmless joke. Ben's attention was completely on Mal, noticing the way her eyes literally glowed as she laughed, just like they did in his dreams.
"Est-elle tout ce dont vous rêviez?" Audrey teased, snapping Ben out of his daze.
"Oui," Ben agreed without hesitation. "Mais elle est plus belle."
Mal snarled her nose at the conversation. "Excuse me?"
"They speak in French so no one can eavesdrop on their conversations," Lonnie explained with an annoyed eyeroll. "Ben taught Audrey how to speak the language when they were kids, so they're the only ones that can speak it, besides his father, of course."
For some reason, Mal tensed at the information. Gesturing between the couple, she wondered, "Are you two dating?"
"Not my type," came the immediate and rushed reply.
"I'm not into princes or royalty," Audrey further explained. "There's only three on the Isle, and two have ruined my views of princes. I prefer a normal guy that is muscular or athletic, kind, can calmly break up a fight without losing his own temper, and is smarter than he lets on."
"I think I know the perfect guy for you," Evie claimed with a soft smile. "You and Lonnie will be touring the campus with me as your guide. If we see him, I'll introduce you." The blue-haired princess turned to Ben expectantly. "And what type of girl should I set you up with?"
"Not interested in prissy pink princesses," Ben claimed before he turned to Audrey. "No offense."
"Just a little bit," Audrey teased, as though it was a part of their usual conversation routine.
"Before we separate for the tours, there's a few things I need to discuss," Mal informed as she decided to get back on the main focus. "I'm sure my father told you about taking Remedial Goodness, but you will also be required to participate in at least one extracurricular activity. For the boys, tomorrow after we've set you up to try out for Tourney—"
"I'm not big on Tourney," Doug interrupted with a careless shrug. "Or sports and physical activity in general. Do I have any other options?"
"How about band?" Carlos suggested. "Your family used to sing as they work, right? Maybe band would be the best fit for you."
"If not, you have until next semester to find a suitable activity," Mal quickly reassured before she adverted her attention to another student. "Lonnie, ROAR isn't available until the next semester, but you will still try-out for it tomorrow after school. My cousin, Uma, is the captain of ROAR, but she is also the captain of the cheer team. During ROAR season, she struggles to maintain her authoritative roles in both sports. Maybe if you're good enough, you can be the assistant captain or even co-captain."
"Wait a sec, you're into Tourney?" Jay raised a pleading eyebrow at Evie. "Want to switch Lonnie for Chad?"
"You wish," Evie retorted playfully. "You got him for a reason. You can knock him down a peg or two."
"Jane, you have permission to wait until next semester to join an extracurricular activity so we have time to help you get over your anxiety and shyness," Mal continued before Chad could figure out what the other two meant. "As for you, Audrey, the cheer team is an option and you'll try out for it at the same time tomorrow. There aren't that many members, so Evie and I occasionally have to fill in whenever needed. The Tourney boys spot Uma and I whenever we do a flip or stunt. Uma doesn't allow anyone else to do a stunt for safety risk, especially since there are so little members."
"Why only you two?" Audrey questioned.
"Since we have immortal blood in us, me being the daughter of a god and Uma the grand-daughter of a god, we would heal quicker if we were to get injured," Mal informed, speaking as though that was a typical question. "The school nurse has the gods' food, ambrosia and nectar, under lock and key in case Uma and I need it. If a 'mortal' tries to eat it, they would die. Meanwhile, we can eat a limited amount before we would become affected by it."
"Anyways!" Mal exclaimed to get the subject changed. "We should get started on the tour. As you may have figured out, Chad and Doug, Jay volunteered to show you around while Evie offered to do the same for you, Audrey and Lonnie. Jane, I'm sure my father told you about Carlos leading you around campus. While he's doing so, Carlos will teach you how to make Dude behave and will try to make Dude less vicious, so he doesn't hurt any of the students on campus. You will also be rooming with Lonnie. Ben, you have the pleasure of being stuck with me."
Ben raised a curious eyebrow at the information. "And why am I with you?"
"Because your 'beastly' temper can't beat my godly temper," Mal teased with a certain glint in her eyes. "Unless, you think you can prove me wrong."
"Elle flirte clairement avec vous," Audrey informed the Isle prince. "Demandez-lui déjà!"
"Je viens de la rencontrer!" Ben sternly reminded. "Rejoignez-moi dans mon dortoir après."
"Curfew is at ten on school nights," Mal interrupted with slight annoyance in her tone. "If we want to meet it, we better get started."
