Chapter 15: Paper Moon

Vivian's POV

The following days have been quiet. Sam and Dean were resting while I kept guard of the Bunker while getting supplies for the boys. Castiel had left right after I went to get groceries. Something about a woman in the car. I did not pry and minded my own business.

Mainly took advantage of the bathroom and kitchen. I was utterly surprised to discover there was an actual bathtub in the shower room. Had to wait late in the night before enjoying a nice long hot bath in the tub and relaxing. If I had the opportunity, there be candles lit around and music playing. Unfortunately, I didn't, and I didn't want to wake the Winchesters. But I must say, it felt nice to take a hot bath in a clean environment.

As for the kitchen, it brought good memories of using these types of appliances during the day. I got the fridge stocked and began meal prepping some dishes. It was nice to cook and bake. Especially when it is not wild game meat and ingredients that can only be found in stores. It was nice, as I cooked and baked.

Sure, the Winchesters can cook, but I enjoy cooking. It was a hobby I had when in Mullen Haven. And the last several months, I didn't have the privilege until now. Therefore, I cooked. Making dishes that can be oven-ready.

Sam was thankful as he enjoyed the meals he ate. Although, Dean has not come out of his room. At first, I thought it was Dean recovering from the exorcism and comprehending what he has done. However, after the third day, I sensed he was avoiding me. Not that I could blame him after what happened between us.

We did something that can hold consequences. Yes, we were safe with a condom. But it doesn't resolve the issues. Our relationship before the whole demon situation was similar to…I don't know - a babysitter. Making sure the mark was not acting up. And yet we had sex because something happened. I don't know how to describe it. It was like something snapped inside us. Something turned off our violent tendency and change those emotions into something else.

I managed to suppress those emotions afterward. It's hard to regret such a thing when I actually enjoyed it. It should not have happened, and it did. Yes, I am an adult, except…there were too many red flags or taboos. I was a Cambion, and he is a human. Of course, he was a demon at the time, but I try not to be intimate with someone I work with. Well, someone who is associated with Cain.

It just happened.

Let alone me being slightly immortal.

Aren't I a cougar, I thought bitterly.

I was prepping a lasagna when I heard someone enter the kitchen. I turned around and saw it was Dean. He stopped seeing me, slightly surprised. He stared at me for a long time.

"Need something, Dean?" I asked.

That snapped Dean out of his train of thought, "Sorry, thought Sam was here."

"He should be resting," I said.

"And you're cooking a Lasagna?" he noted. "At this time?"

"Just prepping some meals," I explained, going back to assembling the pan. "Heard that you're gonna take a break. I thought I make things easier. Probably been a long time since you boys had a proper cooked meal that wasn't from a fast-food joint."

"Um…thanks," Dean muttered, walking over to the table.

"I can cook you up some breakfast if ya like?" I offered. "Eggs with bacon and toast?"

"Sure," Dean accepted.

"How do ya like yer eggs cooked?" I asked, washing my hands.

"Scrambled," he answered.

I nodded as I started prepping for breakfast. We were silent for a moment. Yet, I can sense there is something on his mind. Although, I decided for him to address the elephant in the room. I got half the food cooked, only waiting on the toast when Dean added.

"How long do you plan on staying here?" he asked.

"Just a few days," I answered. "I don't want to impose on your…property."

"Right," he said, rubbing the back of his neck. "Um…Vivian, what happened between us… I'm sorry."

"For what?" I asked.

"For umm-"

The toaster popped as the bread was done. I grabbed the toasted bread and put it on the plate setting it in front of Dean.

"For being a prick and asshat towards you," he answered. "And…what we did."

"We did a lot of stuff. You got to be specific," I murmured, grabbing the jam for him.

"Look, I'm not the kind of guy who pressures women into sex. And what happened between us, it won't happen again." He said.

"Dean… it's alright. The mark did something to us to stop the fighting," I assured, handing him the condiments. "Let's put it in the past."

"Yeah, I mean from what I am told I'm descended from Cain and Able, so that makes you – what…my aunt," he guessed. "Let's not tell Sam that."

I only nodded.

Right. Then again, nearly everyone is descended from Cain and Able. You be surprised how many people are married to their loved ones. It is not severe as it was during the Renaissance of cousins marrying cousins between royals and nobles. From what Eve said, I might have slept with some cousins. Hell, maybe an uncle. I mentally shook my head, not wanting to think about it.

"Anyway, how are you feeling?" I asked.

Dean shrugged, "I don't know. It's hard to describe it. I did a lot of things I'm not proud of."

I nodded, making a plate for myself. Once I got my food, I sat across from him.

"I don't know what to say, for I never been in your shoes," I said. "but knowing your story, you managed to get back up. It might take some time, but knowing how you saved the world so many times, you managed to get back up."

Dean only nodded.

"Enjoy your break," I said. "I'll talk with Cain to get a better understanding of things."

Dean nodded again.

Nothing was said as we ate our breakfast in silence. It was clear Dean does not want to discuss what happened between us. And he brought up a fair point. However, there was a part of me that wants to talk about it. Something happened between us. I don't give in to sexual pleasures so easily with strangers; in the end, that is where we are left off.

Sam soon came in, giving a yawn.

"Mornin' Sam," I greeted.

"Morning Vivian," Sam replied back.

"There's some food if you want any," I offered.

Sam nodded as he went to grab his plate.

Ending possible conversation.

When it was time to go, I grabbed my bag and looked at the Winchesters. After no significant changes after Dean became human again, I thought it was best to leave them be. The last thing I want is to annoy them that they want me out of their lives while the mark is still active.

"Thanks, Vivian, for all you have done," Sam said.

"No problem, text me if anything happens with the mark," I said.

"Will do," Sam promised.

"I'll see if I can get any information from Cain. He has to know more than he's letting on," I said, looking at Dean.

"Yeah," Dean confirmed.

"Well, adios," I said and left the Bunker.

I secured my bag and made my way up the stairs. I stopped doing a quick glance at the Winchesters, yet more towards Dean. With nothing else to say, I left the Bunker. The moment I got out; I felt the repression of my powers gone as my energy returned. Taking a deep breath, I

teleported back to Alaska.

There was a three-hour time difference in which I gained three hours. And yet, I felt exhausted. Taking a deep breath, I entered the cabin to find Cain sitting by the fireplace sharpening a knife. He looked up, seeing me.

"How is your hunt for Dean?" he asked.

"I found him," I answered, coming over and sat by the fire.

"And why are you not with him?" he asked. "Shouldn't you be watching the demon?"

"Dean is no longer a demon," I said.

Cain's eyes widen when hearing this. I took the liberty to explain the exorcism that Sam performed on Dean. How the Winchesters managed to turn a demon into a human once more. Especially a demon possessing his own body.

"Hmm," was Cain's response.

"What do you think about it?" I asked.

"I'm impressed," Cain murmured.

I nodded, "I'm curious…if the offer was given would you take it. To be human again."

Cain paused, thinking about my offer.

Here was his chance to be human again. A chance to go to heaven. To be reunited with Colette once more. And possibly not have the temptation to murder and kill. Here was his chance.

Cain gave a solemn smile as he rested his hand on my shoulder, "My soul has been to hell. There is no chance for me to go to heaven."

I frown, staring out at the fire.

"Along with leaving you alone," he added.

"Papa," I said, using the European version.

"You have a long-life span than most of our kind," he murmured.

"Which kind," I countered.

"Vivian, you look like someone in their late twenties," he clarified. "You may live to five hundred, maybe even a thousand."

I sighed, knowing where he is getting at. Most of our friends are very distant, and Cain made sure to keep us away from demons. I will be lucky to meet a god or goddess, let alone an alpha. If there are any alphas left.

I was going to ask him more about the mark but decided not to. There was enough said, and Cain is known for people accepting the consequences of their actions. If I asked him, Cain would say, 'Dean knew what he was getting himself into.' Except Dean doesn't, not even Crowley told him the truth.

I took a deep breath and stared at the fire, trying to think of a plan to help Dean.

Dean's POV

It has been a few weeks since Vivian left. Dean thought it is best if she left in order for him to think. Every time he saw her, he gets flashbacks of what happened that very night. He tried hard not to think about how they fight, the sex, the conversation, and the car accident. Well, mainly the sex. That is a battle with his perverted mind.

So, when Sam recommended that they go to Washington state for a short vacation, he thought that would be a good idea. Get out of the Bunker and major cities. Away from possible causes to kill. The last thing he needs is to kill someone. He felt guilty about killing Lester. Despite the man being an asshat, he didn't deserve to die like that.

Once in Washington, they relaxed at a motel. It was calming to sleep in, get some breakfast, and do something…normal. The following day, he went to get some brochures to find what to do when spotting the local paper about a few killings in the area. Police are calling it an animal attack. Dean read the article, and based on the paper's tone, it sounded like his kind of thing. Thus, he took the paper and placed it in sight where Sam could read.

Anyway, he and Sam were by the coast sitting on two chairs with a cooler in between. It was a bright day that sunglasses were needed. It was rare for him to wear sunglasses, but today had an expectance.

Unfortunately, his mind lingers back to that night, mainly Vivian in general. There was something about her that intrigued him. He wouldn't call it love liked he had with Cassie Robison and Lisa Braeden. Yet, there was something similar to one another. Maybe because they can relate to the supernatural world they live in and the loss of their mothers. Raised by their fathers, training them for the cruel world they live in. Although John had him hunt while Cain, his daughter, to prepared. Along with their taste in music, attitude, and more.

Dean wasn't sure what it was. But he won't deny the fact he likes Vivian. And he treated her poorly. Let alone sleeping with her. He won't deny that was probably the best laid he got. However, it was motivated by the mark. It was too much, and he asked her to go.

Needing to change the subject in his head, he took a sip of beer, watching the scenery. Although there is one question, he needs to ask his brother.

"Hey, something I needed to ask you," Dean started.

Sam turned his head to face him. His injured arm still in a sling. "Shoot."

"You've been . . . kicked, bit, scratched, stabbed, possessed, killed. . . and you sprain your friggin' elbow?" Dean asked.

Sam went on the defensive as he adjusted himself, "Dude, it was more than a sprain. All right? And it was a friggin' demon, but. . ."

"But what?" Dean interrupted, chuckling. "That sling comes with a slice of crybaby pie on the side?"

Sam scoffed.

Dean stifled a laugh, "Please."

Both chuckled at that.

Dean took another sip of beer. As peaceful as its with crybaby here by the lake in Washington, it is not enough. He needed to do something. He needed to hunt, and what he read this morning says something. It wasn't the mark needs to kill. It was just Dean wanting to help someone before another monster takes its next victim.

"How you doing?" Sam asked.

"Golden, man," Dean lied.

"Come on," Sam disagreed.

"Seriously, I'm good," Dean assured. "I am. You know, we got…" he tapped the cooler. "Three more cases of this stuff on ice in the trunk. Taking some 'we time.' Best decision we ever made."

"Here that," Sam said to give a cheer.

Dean tapped his bottle with Sam's, both taking a sip.

There was a moment of silence.

"See that thing in the paper this morning?" Dean asked.

Sam took a deep breath, "Maybe it was an animal kill."

"It was three kills, and it was the same town, all within the last month," Dean reminded.

"Yeah, you're right." Sam agreed. "We should call some guys, have 'em fix it."

"Good. Smart," Dean replied.

"Done," Sam said, finishing the conversation.

Yet the hunter in Dean can't let it go.

"Or…we could be in and out. It's a milk run," Dean negotiated.

"Right," Sam said, contemplating. "Because that happens never."

Dean took off his sunglasses, "Look, Sam, what we're doing here, it's good, okay? You and me hanging out. But I need to work. I need this."

He needs to forget about the mark.

He needs to forget that he was a demon for a short period of time.

But most of all, he needed to forget about Vivian.

Sam removed his glasses and stared at Dean with a serious look, "If things go sideways. . . I mean, like, an inch, you gotta give me the heads-up."

"Done. You got my word," Dean promised happily.

He put his sunglasses on and got up. Not a second longer grabbed the foldable chair and carried it towards the Impala. A distraction is all he needed so he didn't have to think.
