Beasts of Vengeance
(Hey everyone, this is a story I came up with a little while back. It invokes certain means from both shows and presents them from another perspective with certain events that happened in both shows. Some of this will be unpopular with certain events and characters from both shows, especially SVU, but it's something I feel that isn't explored and should be presented. Regardless, I hope this is a thought-provoking story and has a unique meaning about certain people and events, both in fiction and our world.)
Prologue
(New York City, outside Metropolitan Detention Center)
A man in his mid-thirties is led out of the jail by guards. He has no possessions in his hands. A smile is on his face. Outside the fence, several people cheer when they see him. Some hold signs with words and images speaking about 'true Christianity', of 'righteousness', etc. The man's eyes fall on an older man in his late forties at the head of the crowd. He wore the same glasses the man last saw him with. The guards opened the door to the fence. The crowd practically mobbed the man.
"The Lord has set you free!" One said.
"God's sword has returned!" Another praised.
"Praise be to Christ!" A third proclaimed.
The older man in glasses approached the freed man with open arms and a smile on his face.
"Do you hear them, son?" The man asked.
"Yes, sir," the free man answered.
"Angelgrove! Jason Lotrell has returned to us!" The older man proclaimed.
The crowd's cheer became louder and louder. The guards looked at one another, uneasy.
"Come, son. Let's go celebrate," the man said.
"Thank you, Pastor Hensley," Jason said.
"Jason!" A voice cried out.
Jason and the crowd turned to see a man in his fifties or sixties approach while someone in a hoodie walked down an alleyway.
"Jason!" The man repeated.
"Dad?" Jason asked.
Matthew Lotrell looked beaten down, his eyes were full of worry and with dark rings around them.
"Son, don't go with them. Please," Matthew said.
"Father, we are God's chosen. I must go to lead them into the righteous future," Jason replied.
"No, son. Hensley poisoned your mind and heart. What you did -" Matthew tried to say.
"She destroyed herself. I saved her. She dishonored you and I had to make it right," Jason interrupted.
"By killing her?! My wife! Your mother!" Matthew cried out.
The crowd started to object.
"Whores must be cleansed!" One called out.
"Sinners must be punished!" Another shouted.
"People! People! Please! Let them speak! Jason can convince him to join with us," Hensley said.
"Join?!" Matthew scoffed.
"I loved my mother. But she destroyed herself by falling into temptation. She committed adultery, she betrayed you. Despite her false pleas, she needed to be saved," Jason argued.
"Your mother was so beautiful. I was angry when I learned what she did...but...but in a moment of weakness...I almost...I almost seemed glad that she was punished...that I wanted her to be punished in some way like so many husbands have and do when they learn their wives cheated," Matthew said.
"And those women will be punished. Their souls will be saved from the weakness of the flesh," Jason replied, a huge smile on his face, feeling triumphant.
"But then I realized something...what I felt...made me know I deserved to be cheated on...I wasn't good for her," Matthew said.
"No! No, she was weak. Your anger was righteous," Jason said.
"No...she deserved the world...and when I learned that she had cheated...and died...I knew I couldn't give it to her...I've spent the last 15 years...punishing for not being able to help her...to save her...from you...like so many women should have been saved by the men that hurt them," Matthew retorted.
"No, I saved her!" Jason said.
"Mr. Lortrell, your pain is misplaced. Your wife gave in to the temptation the Devil laid before her. Your son did the right thing," Hensley interjected.
"You killed her as much as he did. Son, please...please you killed your mother! Your mother! She loved you!" Matthew said.
"It was my love that made me save her. My anger was there, but love was what guided my actions," Jason replied.
"No, it was hatred. You hated your mother and so did this man who poisoned you against her," Matthew argued.
"God speaks the truth to me...and he spoke through Pastor Hensely that day. I don't regret what I did and I never will," Jason said.
Matthew looked at him, unable to say anything.
"You...You...You're a monster," Matthew said.
Jason's smiled faded, he seemed shaken. Hensley's frowned.
"That's enough. You can go. We are taking Jason to celebrate your triumphant return," Hensley said.
"Yes, pastor. My father is just going now. He needs to pray for forgiveness for his mistakes," Jason added, a frown on his face.
"You're not my son...you stopped being my son when you decided to murder your mother," Matthew said.
"I saved her!" Jason screamed.
"No...you didn't," Matthew simply said.
"You're wrong! I will save all sinful women like her!" Jason cried out.
"It should have been you found on that floor," Matthew said then started to walk away.
Jason started to tear up, his mouth trembling. Hensley shook his head.
"You are going to hell! God will punish you for vile beliefs!" Jason shouted out after him.
Matthew stopped and turned around.
"Then I'll see you there...for what we both did to your mother," Matthew replied then walked away and out of sight.
Jason's mouth trembled and his nostrils flared. Hensley put a hand on his shoulder.
"Don't let the words of heathens deter you, son. Come on," Hensley said.
(Another part of NYC, an hour or so later)
Angelgrove rented out a pizza place. The employees looked nervous as they served the people there. Jason barely managed to eat a slice. The others smiled and laughed, except Hensley.
"Jason, it's ok. In time, your father will beg forgiveness for his sins and realize the truth," Hensley said.
"What if he doesn't? What if he believes the Devil's lies? I have heard that sinners are still not being punished, not being saved. A few brave souls are doing God's work, but even some of them are being destroyed by those sinners who are set against them or by those the brave are trying to save," Jason replied.
"They wouldn't be tests if things were easy. The Lord will see us through," Hensley said.
Jason nodded. He took more bites from his slice. Hensley looked out one of the windows. He saw a woman exit a car. A younger man was on the sidewalk where the lady parked her car. The younger man was a little nervous when meeting her, but he had a big smile on his face. The older woman walked up confidently to him and kissed him. Hensley rolled his eyes at this with a frown. But then he saw a ring on one of the fingers of the woman and the younger man didn't. Hensley frowned more and his face shifted with rage then it seemed to subside.
"Jason," Hensely said then pointed to the couple.
Jason looked where Hensely pointed. His face contorted with several emotions and nodded. Hensley put a hand on Jason's shoulder and whispered a quick prayer. Hensley looked at the employees, they went into the back. Hensley nodded. Jason nodded and got up.
(On the streets, a few minutes later)
The woman and younger man walk down along the sidewalk, someone in a hoodie whose face they can't see passes them and nods to them. They then made a turn down another street with no one on it, a hotel not far from it.
"I-I've never done this before," the young man said.
"It's alright, no need to be nervous," the older woman said.
"I-I'm so sorry you have to feel to do this...I know your husband is-" the younger man tried to say.
"My husband is a heartless bastard who doesn't give a damn about me. Him not ever being at home when I'm off from work, him never being to try to please me in bed...never being emotionally available to me...even threw a lamp at me when I told him that I had planned a vacation for us to get away and spend some time together...but it got in the way of a hunting trip with his friends," the older woman hissed.
"I-I'm sorry...I hope I can help," the young man said.
"You being here is help enough," the woman said.
"No, it isn't," an unfamiliar voice said.
The two turned to see a man leering at them, stones in his hands.
"Who are you?" The woman asked.
"The Lord's sword," Jason replied.
"Hey man. Whatever it is you think you're doing you best walk away," the young man said.
"You poor lost soul. I know the flesh is weak and this Jezebel has turned you into an even more pitiable sinner. You two are about to destroy yourselves, I have to save you," Jason said.
He threw a stone at the woman. The young man instantly got in front of the woman. The stone struck the side of his head. He groaned in pain. The woman screamed.
"Run!" The younger man said.
He tried to charge Jason, but another stone hit his forehead hard and he was knocked to the ground. The woman was already running and she screamed. Jason ran after her. He corned her near an alleyway and the woman tripped, one of her heels broke. She groaned when she hit the ground.
"Please no!" The woman said.
"The wife is faithful to the husband and must obey him in everything, never betraying him," Jason said.
"My husband doesn't give a damn about me! Please!" The woman cried.
"You are unfaithful...like she was...and I have to save you before you destroy yourself," Jason said, readying to throw a stone.
"No! Please! No!" The woman cried out.
She closes her eyes, still begging. Then she hears something hit the ground and a grunt. She opens her eyes and sees the rock on the ground. She slowly gets up, taking off her other shoe to balance herself. She gasped and cried as she ran back in the direction of the younger man.
(An alley, a minute later)
Jason grunted as he hit the ground then stood up.
"Who dares stand in the way of the Lord's justice!" Jason shouted.
"I don't know about him, but I'm sure as hell standing in your way," a voice growled.
Someone in a hoodie walked out of the shadows and towards Jason then stopped.
"She was going to destroy herself and him! They fell to the temptation of the flesh! I was going to save them! To save her!" Jason said.
"Like you did with your mother?" The person in the hoodie said.
"You know?" Jason asked.
"I know you murdered your mother just because you didn't like she was seeking pleasure," the unknown person answered.
"She destroyed herself! Her pleas were the lies of the devil!" Jason said.
"She begged for her life like so many women have at the hands of men who hurt them. Your father was right about how she deserved the world, everything she desired. If only other husbands and men could realize that about women. But you, you never will...will you?" The unknown figure said.
"You speak the words of the Devil! I am God's sword! I am the one who shall lead the faithful and righteous into a world of purity. Sinners shall be punished and saved!" Jason retorted.
"You won't be leading anyone anywhere," the unknown person hissed.
Jason grabbed a broken brick on the ground and threw it at the person in the hoodie, who just dodged their head out of the way.
"This is for that poor woman and guy you assaulted...and for your mother," the person in the hoodie said.
The person in the hoodie moved his head violently. What Jason saw made his eyes widen in horror, his skin to lose all color, and made him scream in terror.
(Not that far away, a minute or so earlier)
Angelgrove walks out of the pizza place. Hensley leads them down a street where he saw Jason walk down. Hensley sees blood on the sidewalk and a small smile appears on his face. Then they hear screams but from only one voice. Hensley's eyes widen in horror when he recognizes the voice.
"Jason!" Hensley gasped.
The other gasp in horror in response. They approach the origin of the screams. As they get closer they also hear what sounds like the snarling and growling of dogs.
"Jason! Jason!" Hensely and the others cried out.
They hear the screaming and snarling stop. They come across an alley where they see more blood and a broken off part of a heel. They hurry into the alley and they cry out in despair and horror at what they see: Jason on the ground, dead. He was covered in blood and a large pool of blood grows around him. His face, throat, and chest are ripped open. Jason's eyes are wide with horror and his skin is drained of all color...except for the red of this own blood.
"Oh Lord Father in Heaven -" Hensely began to cry out.
The people around him pray and sob in despair. Not far away, someone in a hood watches them and then walks into a dark alley.
To be continued…
(I hope this a good start to this crossover story. I know it presents an already unpopular opinion about certain relationships. I also wanted to start this off with certain characters I thought in the L&O franchise that really should 'experience something' that really speaks out about what some people do (both in fiction and in our world)...and will continue to do so during different parts of the story. Nevertheless, I hope this is a meaningful and thought-provoking story.)
