(My mind's just erratic, sorry. Got several stories up and unfinished, here I am starting another one...with thinking of uploading another maybe soon...My head hurts...well...and something else...but anyway, I wanted to do this story. I don't like everything in Grimm or in SVU as some might know with my other story (which I still want to continue and I will). Nevertheless, I hope I do this alright and make it impactful/interesting. Here's the first update.)
Chapter One: Preferred Victim?
(New York City, close to an hour later)
Sergeant Tutuola and Officer Kat exit a car. They have coats on and drink coffee to keep them awake and warm. Across the street they see a crowd gather with someone at the front raising their hands in the air repeatedly and erratically. Cops guard the scene and Fin sees a CSU man walking away from the scene and throwing up in a trash can. Kat grimaces at this.
"I already don't like this," Kat groaned.
"Yeah, me either. Those guys see a lot, so this has gotta be bad," Fin replied.
"So they called us? Why? I thought the cops said that this might not be sexually related," Kat replied.
"I don't know. But they said they wanted us down here for a routine check," Fin grumbled.
"Alright, let's go," Kat sighed.
The two walked towards the crime scene, taking sips of coffee.
"Excuse us," Kat said.
The two showed their badges to the cops at the scene, who nodded and let them through. Fin looked back at the man in glasses who was praying. He seemed somehow familiar to Fin, but his attention returned to where he was heading.
"Careful where you step," a CSU said.
Fin and Kat looked down. Small pools of blood were scattered on the ground. Bits of clothing soaked in blood and other 'things' drenched in blood was around as well.
"This doesn't look good," Kat said.
"It gets worse," another CSU explained.
They walked farther down the alley where they came upon the body. Kat's eyes went wide and even Fin was taken aback by what he saw.
"Holy shit," Fin whispered.
"I-I think I'm gonna be sick," Kat gagged.
The body had been shredded. The throat was torn out and the chest was ripped open. His eyes were still open, wide with fear. His mouth was open too, in a scream.
"What the hell attacked this guy?" Fin asked.
"Not sure, from the wounds it looks like some kind of animal," a CSU replied.
"It seems he may have tried to fight back. There's some gravel on his hands and a bit of an impression in both hands. He was holding stones," another CSU added.
"Didn't look like it helped him," Kat said.
Fin studied his the dead man's face for a little bit.
"Does this cat seem familiar to anyone? I don't know where I've seen this face before," Fin mused.
"I haven't seen him before," Kat stated.
Fin looked back at the crowd. His focus was on those who were gathered, praying.
"Be back in a sec," Fin informed.
Fin walked over to the crowd. He looked directly at the man with the glasses.
"Sir? Sir! Are you ok?" Fin asked.
"No...the Devil has taken God's chosen!" The man answered in a cry.
"God's chosen?" Fin asked.
Unbeknownst to anyone, someone in a hoodie watches from an alley across the street.
(SVU department, an hour or so later)
Fin, Kat, Rollins, and even Carisi sat around a table. Benson walked over towards them and dropped a file onto the table with a picture of the dead man on it, 15 years younger.
"Jason Lotrell, fifteen years ago he murdered his mother after he discovered she was having an affair with a Muslim man. He believed he was 'saving her' by stoning her to death," Benson explained.
"Biblical, Old Testament to be exact," Carisi informed.
"That man Fin brought back with him, Pastor Hensely. He was the one who put the idea in Jason's head to kill his mother and he got away with it," Benson added.
"Sick bastard," Kat hissed.
Rollins grabs the file and starts to read through it.
"Says here that Hensely believed Jason was God's sword and would lead the faithful against sinners and bring about righteousness to the world," Rollins paraphrased.
"I think I'm gonna be sick," Carisi said.
"You haven't even seen what happened to him," Fin scoffed.
"Ok, why is this even an SVU thing?" Rollins asked.
"Because this man murdered his mother without remorse and he may have tried to kill again tonight. But the only blood found on him was his. So check hospitals for recent injuries, assaults...you all know the drill," Benson elaborated then ordered.
"You got it, Captain," Kat said.
(A hospital, a couple of hours later)
The group had gone through the closest hospitals near where Lotrell's body was found. Fin came upon a young man being checked by a doctor with an older woman by his side.
"How you doing, kid?" Fin asked.
"Not great. Who are you all?" The young man asked.
"SVU, looking for witnesses to something that happened a few hours ago," Fin answered.
"What do you mean?" The woman asked.
"A man was killed, but we believe he may have tried to attack somebody before that," Fin answered.
The older woman and younger guy looked at each other with surprise and relief.
(SVU department, several minutes later)
The older woman and younger guy were in the interview room, not interrogation. The team was there, except for Carisi would watch from within Benson's office.
"Hi, I'm Captain Benson of SVU. Thank you for coming in. Is this your son?" Benson started the conversation off.
The woman looked at the guy.
"No," the woman answered.
"Oh? Who is he?" Benson asked.
"He's my boyfriend," the woman answered.
"You lucky bastard," Fin chuckled.
Rollins rolled her eyes at this and Kat shook her head (in good humor though). The younger guys shyly smiled. Benson saw the ring on the woman's finger.
"But not your husband?" Benson asked.
The group looked at the two. Rollins looked at them with more anger than the others.
"Decided to have a little fun while your hubby's away?" Rollins scoffed.
"My husband would rather go on hunting trips than spend time at home with me. So yeah, I wanna have some fun while the bastard's out," the woman growled back.
Rollins didn't leave her gaze, but the woman's immediate response took her by some surprise.
"Look, we're not here to criticize you for who you want to sleep with," Benson sighed.
"It doesn't feel like that. That's not what I've heard about SVU when it comes to age gap relationships," the young guy replied, a little anger and serious skepticism in his voice.
"Don't go there, kid," Benson retorted.
The young guy's shy demeanor contorted to anger. There was an awkward silence for a minute or two.
"So, uh. As the captain was about to say, we need you to take a look at a photo of the deceased to tell us if you know him," Kat interjected.
The woman's angry eyes were on Rollins while the younger man's were on Benson. But both turned to Kat and nodded. Fin pulled out a photo of Jason Lotrell, dead at the scene.
"I-It's him...he's dead?" She gasped.
"This guy attacked you two?" Benson asked.
"Yes...he overheard how my husband is a rotten bastard and how I was going to get someone to finally be there for me. He spouted a bunch of religious crap and he threw a stone at me...but -" The woman started to explain.
"I got in the way. I couldn't get him, he just pelted me...I-I'm just glad you're ok," the younger guy said then shifted to the older woman.
She smiled.
"I think that monster was gonna kill me. One of my heels broke as I ran, but before he could throw another stone...he was gone. I closed my...eyes…*sobs*...he was gonna kill me! The bastard! B-But he was gone when I looked back at him," she cried.
The SVU team looked at one another then back to him. The younger guy put a comforting hand on her hand.
"She came back to get me and we ran...we don't know what happened to him...but now we do...who was this asshole?" The younger guy asked.
"...His name's Jason Lotrell...he murdered his mother fifteen years ago when it was discovered she'd had an affair with a Muslim man," Benson answered.
"That poor woman...he can burn in hell for what he did to her...and what he almost did to you," the younger guy said, shifting from Benson to the woman.
The SVU team looked at one another, unsure of what to say.
"Should we call your husband? Let him know you're ok? Or your relatives?" Benson asked, first to the woman then to the young man.
"My husband is off on one of those hunting trips I mentioned to you. I had planned for us to go on vacation for our anniversary today...but since he's skipped out...again, I decided to find someone else," the woman answered, a growl in her voice.
"And my family isn't too fond of me possibly being with an older woman. So it's our secret," the young man added.
"Or with a married woman," Rollins added with a scoff.
The young man glowered at her, his head bleeding again.
"Y-You're...um," Benson tried to say.
"And I imagine you're not to fond of age gap relationships either, or affairs, are you?" The young man asked.
"Well...it's just that-" Benson tried to say.
"Don't bother...I've heard what you've done to women who have sought the love of younger guys," the older woman snarled.
"Hey! They were criminals," Benson snapped.
"Maybe for something. But not consensual love. Now, is there anything else?" The younger man asked.
Benson and the others looked at one another, some angry and the others uncomfortable.
"We'll call and say if we need anything," Benson said.
"Come on. I can take you to my house. He's won't be back for a few more days. If you find ever who or what did this, give them a medal," the older woman chuckled, flirty eyes on the younger man.
He gulped nervously, but a smile was on his face. They then left.
"Was it them you think?" Rollins grunted.
"How? We talked to the doctors who examined them. Neither were in a position to kill Lotrell," Benson asked.
"Even if they were, can't say I'd blame them. Sick freak murders his mother for having a good time...this shoulda happened to every guy who would hurt a woman over that," Fin said.
"Fin, that's not how the law works," Benson argued.
"All I'm saying is that the world would be better off with freaks like him gone. And our jobs would be a lot easier too," Fin replied.
"What could have done this to him? Some maniac playing...I don't know what?" Rollins scoffed.
"Just gotta wait for the autopsy reports to come in. Were there any other possible witnesses?" Benson asked.
"Yeah...but not one you wanna talk to," Fin replied.
To be continued…
(I hope this was a good update and that this proves to be a good story. The gang from Portland won't appear for maybe a couple of more chapters or so. But they will.)
