There's something off about this girl.
First off, she'd been calling herself "Seven," which—what kind of name was that? She'd shortened it to "Sev" when someone had suggested it, as if she had no real attachment to what she was called in the first place. Very odd.
Then, there's the bizarre way she'd reacted to most of the questions that she'd been asked. When asked about her parents or where she'd lived in Atlas or anything along those lines, the girl had simply looked at the person asking the questions blankly, as if she didn't comprehend what they were saying. Nothing she was asked was very complicated, just some standard demographic questions so that they could attempt to start filling out the required paperwork so that they could start to organize some of the information about all of the refugees from Atlas and Mantle.
It could be trauma, she knows that. Confusion and memory loss aren't exactly an uncommon response for a child who's been through a traumatic experience, and if the kingdom of Atlas falling and being forcibly evacuated from the home you grew up in and being stranded in a foreign kingdom didn't count as traumatic, she doesn't know what does.
There's also the way that the girl seems so fascinated by mundane, everyday things—like the stray cats that roam in this part of the city, or the sky overhead. Again, it could be a trauma response, on top of being a very sheltered child. Even if she'd estimated that the girl should be about thirteen or fourteen (she'd seemed utterly baffled when asked how old she was), it's not exactly unheard of. Some of the wealthier families in certain parts of Atlas chose to raise their children very isolated from the rest of the world, which led to a lot of confusion as they got older and interacted with the rest of the world.
Although nothing about the girl seems to indicate that she was raised in any kind of a wealthy environment.
Perhaps a therapist could help. A professional would certainly be better equipped to recognize and treat signs of trauma, and they might be able to help tease out more information from the girl to help figure out who she is. Maybe they could help discover who the girl's parents are, if they're still alive, and reunite her with any remaining family she has.
At this point, it's pretty clear that the key to helping this girl is to figure out who she is.
There's something oddly familiar about her, too, something that she can't quite put her finger on. Maybe she'd seen her somewhere before the child was placed in her care? But no, that can't be right. The girl looks too distinctive for her not to remember meeting her before.
She's pretty sure that she'd remember where she'd seen someone with silver eyes like that before.
But anyway, she's definitely thinking that calling in a professional is the right call for this particular case. Both to help the girl, and for organizational purposes.
Otherwise, the girl seems to be doing well in her current placement. She's friendly and helpful, always willing to help with chores or chat with the other children. The only real problem that she's caused has to do with her spending so much time on the roof, staring up at the sky. She's either going to burn herself to a crisp in the harsh Vacuo sun, or at least damage her eyesight. So far, she doesn't seem any the worse for wear, at least.
With any luck, they'll be able to get to the bottom of her situation soon.
