Poor Jamie has to lay down the law with his darling firstborn once again after one too many sassy comments. She may or may not learn a lesson from this one. If spanking is a trigger for you, please don't read this chapter.

"Hey, have you guys thought about what you want to be for Halloween?" Eddie asked as everyone took a seat at the table for breakfast.

"I'm going to be a dinosaur. RAWR!" Sawyer said as she threw her hands in the air.

"A dinosaur? Don't you want to be a pretty princess?" Jamie asked… knowing the answer.

Sawyer wrinkled her nose. "Dinosaur. RAWR!"
He died out laughing. "One dinosaur it is. Kenz, Connor, what about you guys?"
"I want to be a Hobo," Connor answered. "Can you draw me a beard like Uncle D?"

"5 o'clock shadow?" Eddie smiled. "I think I can handle that."

"Kenzie Reese, what about you?" Jamie asked.

"I don't know about me but I do know what I want Finn to be."
"What's that?"

"It's a surprise. Me and Connor have a plan."

Eddie looked at Jamie who just shrugged. "Ok. What do you need?"

"Just a sweater… and khakis."

"Easy enough. Figure out what you want to be though so we can get your outfit too."

Kenzie shrugged.

"So what are we doing today?" Eddie asked.

"I thought we'd take a day trip," Jamie suggested. "Hardington's Farm is open and has lots of cool stuff that I think these guys might like."

"Oh fun!"

"What's that?" Connor asked.

"There's a big corn maze, pony rides, a giant potato sack slide, corn kernel pit, rope tunnels and swings, a bounce house, zip line, pumpkin cannon…" Connor and Kenzie's eyes lit up. "Sound good?"
"Sounds amazing!" they both shrieked.

"Good. Eat up so we can get ready and get out of here."

"Hey, can Sean and Jack come?"
"I can call and ask. I'm not sure if Uncle D is working or not.

"And Nicki?" Millie asked.

"And Grandpa and Pop Pop?" Sawyer added.

"You guys want this to be Reagan Family Fun Day?"

The kids nodded excitedly. "I'll give them a call and see."

Eddie collected clothes for each of the kids while they enjoyed their waffles. As soon as they finished their last bite, Connor and Kenzie took off to their room to get ready. "I wanted to wear my grumpy t-shirt," Kenzie frowned as she walked in and saw the jeans, a thermal, and a flannel laid out for her.

"Put it on over the thermal, under the flannel, and when you get done, come downstairs and I'll fix your hair." They got ready and both grabbed a beanie before running back downstairs, excited to see if the rest of the Reagans would be joining them.

"Aunt Erin and Nicki are coming," Jamie said as he ended the call he was on.

"What about Uncle D?"
"Aunt LInda said when the boys woke up, she'd ask if they wanted to join us. Uncle D is working."

"How about Grandpa?"

"I think he's working this morning. He and Pop may join us for lunch."

The kids were buzzing with excitement the entire way to the Farm. When they arrived, they were about to bounce out of their skin. Nicki and Erin were waiting for them at the gate, having already scouted out all the fun stuff to do.

"I want this guy!" Erin smiled as she took Finn from Eddie.

"He's getting heavy," Eddie said as she happily handed him over.

"Squishy goodness," Erin said as Finn gave her a huge smile. "I love it. You guys go have a ton of fun. Me and this guy will be just fine."

"Dad, let's go do the maze!" Connor yelled as he pulled at Jamie's hand.

"I wanna go bounce!" Sawyer squealed as she pulled at Eddie.

"Hold up," Jamie instructed, getting above the noise. "Let's go over some ground rules. "We'll get to do all the fun stuff, but first, you three," he pointed at Connor, Kenzie, and SAwyer, "do not go anywhere without one of us with you. Understood?" The kids nodded.

"And today's a good time to practice self-control, so wait your turn if someone is in line in front of you," Eddie reminded them. "We have plenty of time to do it all today, so no pushing or shoving. Be polite."

"Can we go now?" Kenzie asked.
"Yeah. Let's go. Who's with who?"

"I'll take Sawyer to the bouncy house," Eddie said. "Kenz, want to go with us?"

"That's for babies."

Sawyer stomped her foot. "It is not!"

"Hey, don't start," Eddie warned. "We're not fighting today. Kenzie, go with Daddy. We'll catch up with you guys later."

"Nic, come with us!" Connor yelled as he and Kenzie ran off with Jamie trailing behind.

By lunchtime, the Reagans had conquered nearly all of the Farm. Sawyer was obsessed with the pony rides and the corn kernel pit. Kenzie and Connor were having the time of their lives on the zipline. Frank and Henry arrived in time to watch them on their final ride before Jamie told them it was time to break for lunch.

"Can we go stay and watch the fireworks tonight?" Kenzie asked.

"Nope. We need to think about heading home soon. I know two Reagans that need a nap and two more that it wouldn't hurt."
"But…"
Jamie raised his eyebrows signaling an end to the discussion. "No."

The Reagans all made their way back to their cars after one last activity of their choices. Jamie was right. They were about two minutes out of the parking lot before all four of the Reagan kids were sound asleep. "I have a feeling they will sleep awhile," he said as he grabbed Eddie's hand and placed a gentle kiss on it.

"They had fun today."
"I know… I think they would've spent the night if we let them. What's on the agenda this week?"

"We've got parent-teacher conferences on Tuesday. Finn has a doctor's appointment on Wednesday. Kids have Fall Break on Friday and we have to finalize Halloween costumes sometime before Saturday because that's when we have to take them trick or treating. We also have to squeeze in a haircut for your son sometime this week or he's going to start running into the walls because he can't see."

"He does love his hair he can flip."

"Yeah but I don't think your dad and grandpa love his hair he can flip."
"True."

"Did any of you guys ever have long hair?"

"Are you kidding me? Those two cowboys were ex-Marines by the time we came along. Absolutely not. We always had fresh cuts."

The plans didn't exactly get derailed, but they did have to alter just a bit. Connor and Kenzie had spent the entire week making plans for how they were spending their off day from school with Jamie, but on Thursday night, he got a call that there was an officer down and had to go into work. Unfortunately, the officer didn't make it and Frank called an all hands on deck to track down those responsible.

"Where's Dad?" Connor asked as he and Kenzie bounded down the stairs Friday morning.

"Back at work," Eddie answered as she screwed the lid back on Sawyer's sippy cup and continued feeding Finn his breakfast.

"What? He was supposed to spend the day with us!" Kenzie huffed.

"I know. But something came up and he had to go in. It's ok. We can still do all the things."
"No we can't. We can't play roller hockey with Finn and Sawyer. And we can't go to the movies with Finn and Sawyer. We can't do anything because of…"
"Don't finish that sentence," Eddie instructed. "We will make the best of it today. End of discussion."

"UGH!" Kenzie grumbled.

"Change your attitude, please."

Unfortunately, Kenzie's attitude didn't change. She was grouchy for much of the day, annoyed that her and Connor's great plans had been ruined and the fact that she had two younger siblings who seemed to do nothing but slow her down. Eddie did what she could to go easy, considering she knew they were disappointed. Still, it was trying and Jamie could tell it when he finally made it in.

"Get the guy?" she asked as he walked in, exhausted.

"Yeah. We got him. There was a standoff and he knew there was no way out. He started firing and we went in full force. He came out in a body bag."

"Good," she sighed as she got his plate out of the oven and had a seat across the table from him.

"How did things go here?"
She sighed. "It was a day."
"Let me guess. A certain 7 year old girl was less than pleased that plans were changed?"

"Yeah. It was rough."

"Sorry, Babe. I'll talk to her tomorrow. Just an attitude or was there more?"

"Attitude. Disrespect. You know, the usual when you aren't here and she isn't getting her way."

"Ah. If that's the case, we may have to do more than talk."

"It's ok. Maybe it will be better tomorrow. I'm not sure though. She was less than excited when I told her that we would have to go to a funeral before they got in their costumes for trick-or-treating."

"Don't worry," Jamie said. "I'll take care of it."

Saturday morning, Eddie's mom came over to keep Finn and Sawyer so that the rest of the family could attend the memorial service for the fallen officer.

"Why can't we stay home?" Kenzie whined as they drove to the church.

"I'm not leaving four of you with Grandma. Besides, it will mean a lot to Grandpa if you go and listen to his speech. Have a good attitude, please."
"But we've heard Grandpa a thousand times. And we'll see him tomorrow."
"Kenzie Reese, that's enough," Jamie said as he looked in the rearview mirror. "We're almost there. As soon as it's over, we'll come home and get ready for trick-or-treating, but we are doing this first. End of discussion."
Kenzie sat there for a moment kicking at the back of the seat. "We don't even know this person. Why do we have to go?"

Jamie took a deep breath. Eddie looked over at him and tried to explain before he lost his cool. "We go to honor all those police officers that have lost their lives… like Uncle Joe. And to be there for the family of this officer. It's not about us. It's about them. Now drop it. We'll be there in a few minutes."

"Can I at least sit with Sean and Nicki?"

"No. You're sitting with your mother and me."
"But WHY?"
"You are already in trouble for your attitude yesterday. You are sitting with us for the same reason you sit with us at church. If you don't, you'll talk and be disruptive. And you will not be disruptive during this service. We all have to be on our best behavior. Understood?"

Kenzie rolled her eyes, which did not go unnoticed by Jamie. "You are out of chances. You have exactly two miles to change your attitude or you are going to have a very hard time sitting on the pew during the funeral today."

"Stop," Connor finally whispered, looking to his sister. "You're going to get in trouble."

"What?! I don't want to go to this stupid funeral. Do you?"

That was it. The absolute last straw. Eddie saw Jamie's jaw tighten. She turned around with purpose and looked Kenzie right in the eye. "Do NOT say another word. Do you understand me?"
"Yes ma'am," Kenzie mumbled, realizing that she may have just pushed things a bit too far.

No one said a word as they pulled into the parking lot. Jamie took off his seatbelt and turned to look at the twins. Hop out and stand by the car until Mommy and I get out. He looked over to Eddie. "Is that old slapper still in the glovebox from our trip to the beach?"

"I think so. You want it?"

"The stupid funeral comment did it for me. I've had enough of this attitude. It has to go and unfortunately, your daughter doesn't seem to want to wait until we get home."
Eddie dug around in the glovebox and pulled out the small leather slapper and handed it to him. He got out and slipped the slapper into his pocket before grabbing Kenzie's hand as Eddie took Connor's hand and led them to the church. They were early as always. As they walked into the foyer, Jamie spotted the family down front. "You guys go take a seat with Dad. Kenzie and I will be there in a few minutes."
Kenzie's eyes got huge. He really was going to follow through on his promise. She instantly regretted everything she had said.

Eddie made her way down to where all of the Reagans were seated on the first two rows, talking quietly.

"Where are the rest of them?" Danny asked.

"Well," Eddie began, "my mom came over to keep the little ones and Jamie and Kenzie will be joining us shortly."

"Everything ok?" Frank asked.

"Your granddaughter wasn't too excited about coming to a funeral on Halloween and she smarted off one too many times. If you hear wailing coming from the back of the church, it is probably not someone overcome with grief. It's probably Kenzie because her daddy is blistering her backside in the family bathroom."
Danny just chuckled as he shook his head. "Can't you control your sister?" he asked Connor as he put his arm around his nephew's shoulders.

"I tried. She won't listen," Connor sighed.
"She's Irish," Henry said. "It's in her blood."

Meanwhile, Jamie led Kenzie straight to the large family bathroom just off the side of the foyer. He took a seat on the chair in the corner and positioned his daughter right in front of him. "Kenzie Reese, why are you in trouble?"
"I didn't want to come to this funeral."
"No, it's because you've been disrespectful since we left the house today and from what Mommy told me last night, you were pretty disrespectful to her yesterday too. Would that be a fair statement?"
"Well! It wasn't fair. She wouldn't let us do what we wanted because the little kids were with us!"
"Um. I think she told you that you could do all the things you had planned… you just chose to have a very bad attitude for most of the day. Would that be right?"
"Maybe…" Kenzie grumbled as she looked at her feet.

"Now after I spank your bottom, you better change your attitude or you will not be going trick-or-treating tonight. Do you understand?"
"Can I change it without the spanking?"
"Well apparently not because Mommy and I both asked you to do that on the way here and you didn't change it at all."

"Sorry," Kenzie muttered.

"I'm sure you will be," Jamie assured her as he turned her around, tucked the bottom of her skirt into her waistband, and pulled her over his knee. She cried as he spanked every inch of her backside with his hand. He stopped briefly and looked down at her. "Are you going to change your attitude when we go out there?"

"Yes sir," she sniffed. "Good. If not, I will spank you again when we get home. Understood?"
"Yes sir."

She started to get up when he put his hand on her back. "Not yet. We're not finished." She cut her eyes back at him as he reached in his pocket and pulled out the slapper.

"Oooh Daddy. Don't use that. My attitude will change. I promise." She flung her hands back to shield her backside.
"This isn't for your attitude today. We've already taken care of that. This is for yesterday. Don't you dare be disrespectful to Mommy again like you were yesterday. Do you understand?"
"Yes sir," she hiccupped as he moved her hands and gave her a few hard swats on her sit spots with the slapper.

He stood her up and put her skirt back in place before wiping a few tears from her eyes. SHe immediately began rubbing her backside furiously, trying to get rid of the sting.

"Daddy, that hurt!" she exclaimed.

"It was supposed to. You know the rules. Anytime you are disobedient or disrespectful, you are going to get a spanking… especially if you act ugly toward Mommy. What do you think you need to do to make it right?"

"Tell her I'm sorry?"
"I think that would be a very good idea." In a normal situation, he would've offered a bit of comfort as they again discussed the necessity of discipline, but they had a funeral to get to and he knew that he would revisit it with her when they got home. "We will talk about this more when we get home. Remember, the attitude better change or you'll get another spanking tonight. Understand?"

"Yes sir," she sniffed.

"Ok. We've got to go. Dry it up," Jamie directed as he got up and handed her a tissue to blow her nose. He gave her a couple of minutes to calm down, wiped her eyes once more, and led her out of the bathroom and down to the front of the church. "Sit," he directed to the spot in between him and Eddie.

Kenzie eased herself down onto the pew, not looking at any of the family. Erin furrowed her brow at her baby brother as he shrugged. Danny, again, just smiled and shook his head. He knew exactly what Jamie was going through and was just glad it wasn't him doling out the discipline anymore.

Jamie looked down at Kenzie and handed her his handkerchief to wipe her eyes while Danny turned around for a brief chat. "Hey, look at me." She slowly lifted her eyes to her favorite uncle. "Stop letting your mouth get your backside in trouble. Copy?"
"Copy," she muttered. "Uncle D," she said as she leaned up and whispered to him, "did Grandpa spank you and Daddy as hard as Daddy spanks me? My booty is on fire."

"Oh Grandpa definitely spanked harder than your dad does."
"Really?" she asked with wide eyes.
"Are you sitting down?" Kenzie nodded. "If Grandpa was the one back there and it was me, your Dad or your Uncle Joe getting the spanking, we wouldn't be able to sit through this service. Be thankful you didn't get a Frank Reagan Special… you just got a Jamie Reagan Classic." He winked at her as he turned around and the funeral began.

The Reagan clan made it home in plenty of time to get dressed before trick-or-treating. Lena had managed to get the two little kids down for a nap just before they arrived. Eddie sent Kenzie and Connor upstairs to take a short nap as well since it was going to be a long night. Neither of them were very tired, but they weren't about to argue. Jamie followed Kenzie upstairs and had the entire conversation he had wanted to have with her at the church, ensuring she understood why she was punished and that she was loved unconditionally.

"I'm sorry for what I said, Daddy," she said as she got up and wrapped her arms around him.

"It's ok," Jamie assured her. "We all mess up. It's what you do next that matters."

"Hey Dad," Connor said as he climbed up on his bunk, "I'm not really tired."

"Well, just lay here and rest. It's going to be a long night."

"Ok."

Jamie joined Eddie back in the living room. "They laying down?"

"Yep. I had a good talk with Kenz. Connor said he wasn't tired, but maybe if they lay there long enough, they'll fall asleep."

"What a day," Eddie sighed as she snuggled next to him on the couch. "You ok?"
"Huh?" Jamie said, lost in thought. "Yeah yeah. I'm fine. These things always make me think of Joe… and then having to dish out discipline to my firstborn… like you said… it's been a day."

"We were all thinking of Joe today. As for Kenzie, that kid definitely deserved whatever she got. I can't take another day like we've had the past two. Especially if Sawyer starts to pick up on it."

"I don't think we'll have to worry about it. I wore her out."
"Did you use the slapper?"

"A little. I put her over my knee and used my hand for the most part. When I felt I had thoroughly made my point that her attitude needed to change, I reminded her that she would never disrespect you again before giving her a few swats with the slapper. Pretty sure she doesn't want another spanking for a long time. Her hiney was on fire."

"I would guess so. Thanks for putting a kibosh on the disrespect."

Jamie and Eddie both drifted off to sleep and enjoyed a nap before the nightly festivities. They woke up about half an hour later when they heard Sawyer running down the stairs. "Daddy, let's go! It's trick-or-treat night!"

Jamie went to help Sawyer with her dinosaur costume as Kenzie took off to help Connor get Finn ready. It was still a surprise to Eddie what they were doing to her youngest, but it was definitely worth it in the end.

"He's ready!" Connor yelled as Jamie and Eddie made their way into the livingroom.

They both began laughing hysterically when they saw Finn with khakis, a sweater, a mustache, furry eyebrows, and a little pair of glasses. "He's Grandpa!" the twins exclaimed proudly.

"That is the BEST costume ever," Eddie and Jamie both agreed. "I think Grandpa's house needs to be our first stop!"

"Kenz, do you want to put on an outfit to match Connor since you never picked anything?" Eddie asked.

"Not really. Daddy, can I wear one of your NYPD sweatshirts? I'll just be Detective Baez."

"Sure, Bug." Jamie went and found the smallest navy blue NYPD sweatshirt that he could find. That, coupled with black leggings, a yellow ballerina tu-tu, and her favorite boots constituted Kenzie's outfit.

"Remember," Jamie said as they headed out, "don't eat any of the candy until we get home and check it."
"What about Grandpa's?"
"Yeah you can eat Grandpa's… just don't mix it in with all the other candy so that you know which is his."

They all loaded up and headed to Bay Ridge. Frank and Henry both lit up when they saw Finn. "Those two did it," Eddie smiled as she pointed to the twins. "Isn't it the best?"
"It's great!" Frank exclaimed. "You all look great. Let me see what all we have here. It looks like we hav a hobo, a very fancy NYPD detective ballerina, and a dinosaur."
"RAWR!" Sawyer yelled.

Henry gave each of his great-grandchildren a giant size of their favorite candy bars. "Mr. Goodbar for the detective, Butterfinger for the hobo, a Hershey for the dinosaur, and a can of puffs for the Little Francis."

"What do we say?" Jamie directed.

"Thank you, Pop!" they all said in unison.
The Reagan/Janko clan made their way through Bay Ridge stocking up on enough candy to get them well into the new year. By the end of the night, they were all exhausted. The kids were fast asleep when they got home, so Eddie and Jamie both made two trips to the car to unload. Eddie carried in Finn and Sawyer as Jamie carried in Connor and Kenzie.

"We survived another Halloween," Eddie yawned as they walked back downstairs to lock all the doors and turn out the lights. "Want to celebrate by raiding their Halloween candy?"

"I don't think so," Jamie yawned. "I'm exhausted. How about we go crash?"

"That sounds good," she smiled.
