Emily Takes Care
Written by Davey Moore
(Note: I originally had Helen Farrall as the writer for this episode, but I thought I'd give her Diesel's Tall Tales considering how well she's written the three starring characters there in the current series, and how well Davey's handled the trio of female characters here)
It was a beautiful spring morning; Emily was happily running her passenger route along the Main Line back to Knapford Station, and remained in high spirits as she chuffed steadily along.
PEEP-PEEP!
"Good morning, Percy!" she greeted, as the saddle tank engine approached her up ahead.
"Good morning, Emily!" Percy whistled, as he carried on with his milk tankers behind.
Next, Emily approached Nia further in the distance, as the Kenyan engine came down the line with some stone trucks.
"Hi, Nia!" she greeted.
"Morning, Emily!" Nia greeted back. "How are you?"
"Good, thanks, Nia! Won't be long before I have these passengers back to Knapford Station before my next job today!'
"That's great, Emily! Just having these stone trucks delivered to Ffarquhar!"
PEEP-PEEP!
"Keep it up, Nia!" Emily whistled cheerfully.
"You too, Emily! Have a nice day!"
She smiled happily as she carried on with her stone trucks, watching the birds chirp and fly over her.
Emily finished her passenger run at Knapford, just as Gordon was about to leave with the express.
PEEP-PEEP!
"Good morning, Gordon!' she greeted.
"Sorry, Emily!" Gordon suddenly blurted out, much to her surprise. "No time to chat! The express waits for no engine!"
Then he pulled out of the station as soon as his guard's whistle blew.
POOP-POOP!
"Express coming through!"
Emily watched after him with surprise, then sighed lightly.
"Huh," she wondered.
"But, sir, I promised I'd get around to it after I'm done with my passenger run!"
Emily's thoughts were suddenly interrupted by the sound of Thomas' voice as she suddenly saw him out of the station conferring with the Fat Controller.
"No excuses, Thomas," the Fat Controller said firmly. "May I remind you that the quarry run is something I've been reminding you to do for this past week, and you haven't been doing it. Percy has!"
"Please, sir," Thomas begged, as Emily inched slowly closer. "Just let me Annie and Clarabel out once. Then I'll get right to it over my break…"
"No, Thomas!" the Fat Controller boomed. "You must get around the quarry run today before you do anything else."
"But, sir, what will I do about Annie and Clarabel?" Thomas inquired.
"Hmm…" the Fat Controller wondered, thinking hard.
He looked over and saw Emily slowly pulling into view.
"Ah, Emily," he sighed with relief. "Come on over here. I would like to have a word."
"Yes, sir," Emily replied, and made it quickly over beside Thomas and the Fat Controller.
"How may I be of help, sir?" she asked.
"You have no job at the moment, do you, Emily?" the Fat Controller asked.
"Erm, not that I know of, sir. At least not till my next passenger train is due out, so I have quite some time to spare."
"Excellent!" the Fat Controller beamed. "I was wondering if you'd like to take Annie and Clarabel out while Thomas is on his quarry run."
"Huh?" Thomas wondered, raising an eyebrow at such a thought.
"Absolutely, sir!" Emily cheerfully replied.
"Very well then. They're waiting in the carriage shed. I suggest you get going now."
"I will, sir!" Emily promised, then looked over at Thomas. "Don't worry, Thomas. I'll keep them well looked after."
Thomas was surprised, yet speechless.
"Erm…thank you, Emily," he replied, then whistled as he headed off to collect his trucks.
"I sure hope Annie and Clarabel will be alright," he thought to himself.
Annie and Clarabel were fast asleep in their shed, when…
PEEP-PEEP!
Annie awoke with a start, then looked over to see the back of an engine that didn't look like Thomas.
"Wake up, Clarabel!" she gawked.
Clarabel yawned and opened a sleepy eye.
"That sure didn't sound like Thomas," she wondered sleepily.
"It's not!" Annie confirmed, sighing dully as Emily backed down onto her and was coupled up. "It's Emily."
"Oh, yes," Clarabel responded. "I remember all too well."
"As do I," Annie hastily added, then raised an eyebrow with suspicion as Emily pulled them along out of the carriage shed.
"Just what do you think you are doing, Emily?" she asked.
"Where's Thomas?" Clarabel asked.
"Thomas has a quarry run he owes to the Fat Controller," Emily remarked. "So this morning, I'll be taking you out instead."
"Well, I say," Annie wondered to Clarabel from behind. "She does seem sure, doesn't she?"
"Indeed, Annie," Clarabel agreed, then went on, "she's taken us out quite a few times before, yet I wonder whether or not she can really be trusted."
"She means well," Annie admitted. "But nevertheless, it's best we keep an eye on her since I for one am not accustomed to being pulled by a main line engine."
"Nor I," Clarabel remarked, then remarked, "and if the first time she took us out had anything to do with it."
"Indeed," Annie groaned, reminiscing. "He said "we'll do"."
"How dare he say we'll do!" Clarabel moaned. "And especially without consent…"
"Shush!" Annie hissed, then said quietly, "everything is under control."
"Um, what are you two talking about back there?" Emily asked out of curiosity, as she approached Knapford up ahead. "Is everything okay?"
"Oh, yes, yes, everything's fine," Clarabel muttered.
"Oh, yes, indeed," Annie added, then reminded her, "you'd best watch where you're going, Emily."
Emily was puzzled.
"I've entered stations many times before," she replied, as she made her way into the platform.
She came to a hard stop, much to the discomfort of the coaches.
"My, oh my," Clarabel groaned.
"Watch where you're going, Emily!" Annie snapped.
"Sorry," Emily apologized, blushing a little.
Emily waited till all her passengers were onboard and the guard's whistle blew, before starting again.
As soon as Emily started, she quickly tugged at the coaches, causing them to groan. The passengers aboard quickly grabbed the handle bar while still trying to find their seats and the luggage inside Clarabel fell all over, much to the guard's surprise.
"By golly!" he gasped.
"Ouch!" Clarabel winced, then moaned, "I felt a little jolt in my carriages!"
"Try and be more careful, Emily!" Annie snapped.
"Sorry," Emily groaned.
"As you should be!" Clarabel remarked. "You seriously could have harmed your passengers!"
"I know," Emily sighed, as she approached the Junction, remaining somewhat unaware of her surroundings as she spoke to the coaches. "I promise I'll do better next time…"
"Watch out!" Rebecca shouted. "Red signal, Emily!"
"Woah!" Emily wailed, the coaches wailing after her.
She slammed her brakes hard in time to avoid a collision at a set of points, as Rebecca rushed through the points after the green signal on her line. Watching Rebecca roll away, she sighed sadly.
"That was very careless of you, Emily!" Annie scolded severely. "You could have caused an accident!"
"Or worse!" Clarabel noted. "You could have severely hurt your passengers!"
"Well said, Clarabel. Well said."
"I'm sorry," Emily sighed. "I just got a little distracted. That's all. I was just so nervous about the previous mistakes I made that I…"
"No!" Annie cut off. "That's no excuse, Emily! You truly are a reckless engine! You're not on the Main Line, you know!"
"Couldn't have put it better myself!" Clarabel added.
As soon as her signal turned green, Emily puffed sadly away; her journey out on the Branch Line was off to a rocky start, and the coaches weren't entirely trusting of her…
However, the fresh air and beautiful scenery all around her couldn't help but brighten Emily's spirits!
"La-la-la, la-la-la-la-la! La-la-la, la-la-la-la!"
"I say, Annie," Clarabel whispered, as they listened to Emily singing. "Whatever do we do now?"
"I'll handle it!" Annie whispered, then raised an eyebrow as she looked towards the front of the train,
"Emily," she demanded. "You're going to have to hurry it along a bit if we're going to make it anywhere on time!"
"Got it!" Emily blurted out.
She quickly picked up the pace, causing the passengers aboard to hold onto their seats, and the coaches to wail and groan.
"How's that?" she asked, out of curiosity.
"Much too fast, Emily!" Annie added
"Indeed," Clarabel agreed wearily.
"Sorry," Emily responded, then gradually slowed down.
"How about now?" she asked.
"Now, you're traveling too slow," Clarabel complained.
"I couldn't agree more, Clarabel," Annie added. "Much too slow."
Emily sighed with dismay as she carried on, approaching Dryaw up ahead.
Soon enough, Emily arrived at Dryaw Station to drop off and pick up passenger, though she was rather quick to let off steam!
As Emily let off steam, the coaches coughed loudly and the passengers covered their faces due to the smoke billowing across the platform.
"For buffers sake, Emily!" Annie shouted.
"Oh," Emily wondered. "Was that…too much steam?"
"Far too much steam!" Clarabel confirmed.
"Oh, sorry," Emily apologized.
"Don't apologize to us!" Annie scolded. "Apologize to the passengers!"
"I guess she'll never learn, Annie," Clarabel wondered.
"Quite right, Clarabel," Annie agreed. "Not unless she learns that we're not on the Main Line."
Emily sighed with dismay as her passengers disembarked and boarded the train.
Annie and Clarabel's criticisms were making Emily feel worse than she already did, but not for long…
HONK-HONK! HONK-HONK!
Emily's spirits were brightened when Bertie came into view and arrived just beside the platform.
PEEP-PEEP!
"Hello, Bertie!" she whistled cheerfully.
"Don't whistle until your passengers are all onboard, Emily!" Clarabel scolded.
Emily blushed a slight shade of red as Bertie remained friendly.
"Hello, Emily!" he greeted back. "Say, what brings you about Thomas' Branch then?"
"I'm looking after the passengers while Thomas is on his quarry run," Emily explained.
"Yes," Annie bluntly added. "But she isn't doing a very good job at it."
Emily sighed sadly, but Bertie smiled over at her.
Bertie could see that Emily was upset, and decided to think of a way to cheer her up.
"I see," he observed. "Well, how 'bout a race then? Bet you have as high of a chance of beating me as Thomas does."
Emily listened as the door slammed and Clarabel's guard's whistle blew, whilst thinking of the idea.
"My," she marveled. "That does sound like fun! But…"
"Absolutely not!" Annie cut off, and quickly pushed her forward, before firmly telling her, "don't even give in of such an idea!"
"It's bad enough she even thought of such before we put her in her place!" Clarabel added.
"But…I wasn't," Emily attempted to explain. "I only…"
"Enough, Emily!" Annie demanded. "Just focus on the tracks ahead of you!"
Emily sighed heavily and rolled her eyes as she continued, slowly beginning to lose patience.
What Annie and Clarabel didn't realize was that by being harsh on Emily over every mistake she made, they were causing her even more stress than she obviously had over making them…
At Maithwaite, Emily made the same mistake of whistling loudly as soon as she stopped at the platform and her passengers got off!
PEEP-PEEP!
Passengers disembarking the train quickly covered their ears and walked about the platform.
"Emily!" Annie snapped.
"Oops," Emily gasped. "Erm…was that too loud?"
"Far too loud!" Clarabel confirmed. "And what was it we told you back at Dryaw?"
"Erm…, not to wheesh too much steam?"
"Not to whistle till all your passengers are onboard!" Annie huffily corrected.
"Oh," Emily thought, rather dully.
"No respectable engine does so!" Clarabel remarked. "It's just improper!"
"Quite right, Clarabel! My guess is that that's how things are done on the Main Line!"
"Couldn't have put it any better myself!"
Emily rolled her eyes and waited till her all passengers were onboard and the doors slammed before whistling loudly again.
PEEP-PEEP!
"No, Emily!" both coaches cried out at once.
"You must wait for your guard's whistle to blow!" Clarabel scolded.
Emily sighed heavily and waited for the guard's whistle to blow, before giving a small toot of her whistle and slowly leaving the station.
"For buffer's sake, Emily! Hurry it along a bit!" Annie snapped.
"Sorry," Emily moaned.
She gradually sped up, as the coaches wailed loudly.
"Not too fast, Emily! Not too fast!" Clarabel groaned.
Emily abruptly slowed down, inadvertently bumping into the coaches behind him, causing their passengers to bounce up and down in their seats, and the luggage inside Clarabel to fall over once more.
"Oops! Sorry!" Emily muttered.
"That was very careless, Emily!" Annie scolded. "Very careless indeed!"
"Huh!" Clarabel scoffed, looking the other way.
Emily sighed heavily and continued along, slowly growing frustrated with the coaches.
On the way to Ffarquhar Station, Emily attempted to hurry it along a bit by gradually picking up speed.
"How's this?" she wondered, unaware of the red signal up ahead as she looked back at Annie.
"Watch out!" Annie snapped. "Red signal!"
"Woah!" Emily gasped, as she looked at the red signal right before her.
Annie quickly pinned her brakes to in time to allow Emily to stop right before the signal, allowing Henry to pass through with his own coaches.
"I thought you learned your lesson about signals back at Knapford Junction!" Annie scolded.
"I wonder if she'll ever learn at all!" Clarabel added, rather exasperated.
"Sorry," Emily muttered, gritting her teeth so as to try not to lose patience. "I'll do better next time."
She waited till her signal turned green before making her way along again, feeling rather exasperated.
Emily soon reached Ffarquhar Station at the end of Thomas' Branch. She waited as her passengers disembarked the train and more hopped on, before letting off a little steam, though not as much as before…
"How did I do that time?" she asked the coaches, rather eagerly.
"You're learning a little bit," Annie admitted. "But you're still letting off too much steam!"
"Indeed, Annie," Clarabel added. "Far too much!"
"Only let off so much that it doesn't go beyond the platform!"
"Nor our faces!"
"Quite right, Clarabel!"
Emily frowned and waited till her guard's whistle blew, before whistling loudly and tugging too hard at the coaches, as she exited the station.
"Ouch!" Annie groaned. "What did we tell you about tugging too hard, Emily?!"
"Oh, what's the use, Annie?" Clarabel groaned. "She'll never learn! She's accustomed to rushing about on the Main Line!"
Emily rolled her eyes with frustration and pressed further on without a word.
As they headed the other way back from Ffarquhar, Emily started to feel a bit better as she made her way along, taking a moment to observe the lovely spring scenery all around her.
"Ah," she sighed, taking a deep breath to breathe in the fresh air, as the birds flew over her. "Now, this is more like it."
"Stop dawdling, Emily!" Annie scolded. "And keep your eyes on the track!"
Emily's thoughts were rudely cut off by the sound of Annie's voice, then she sighed with dismay as she continued along.
Up ahead, Emily spotted Edward coming down the line with a heavy goods train.
PEEP-PEEP!
"Hello, Emily!" the blue engine greeted.
"Hello, Edward!" Emily greeted back, and give him a loud toot from her whistle.
"Not too loud, Emily!" Annie snapped.
"My ears are hurting just listening to it!" Clarabel moaned.
"Don't you remember anything about what we told you?!" Annie wondered.
"I was only saying hello," Emily admitted.
"That's not an excuse!" Annie assured her. "The only time you should whistle loudly is at stations, and after all your passengers are onboard and your guard's whistle blows!"
"Couldn't have put it any better myself!" Clarabel wearily agreed.
Emily sighed heavily and felt rather flustered.
"Sorry," she told them, looking one way. "It won't happen again…"
"Red signal!' the coaches cried out.
Emily slammed her brakes hard and stopped in just enough time to allow Murdoch to whistle and pass by.
"Ugh! My wheels are aching!" Clarabel moaned.
But Emily took no notice.
"How did I do that time?" she asked eagerly. "Did I stop in time?"
"Only because we told you so," Annie remarked, raising an eyebrow.
"She'll never learn. Will she, Annie?"
"No, indeed," Annie agreed.
Emily rolled her eyes with annoyance, and watched as her signal turned green, before making it on her way again.
Emily found herself making the same mistakes over and over due to the coaches constantly singling her out harshly for every mistake she made; unfortunately, this was making it very difficult for Emily herself to learn…!
Emily seemed to be taking the rest of the journey rather slowly, as the coaches immediately began to notice.
"She's doing it again, Annie!" Clarabel complained. "Going too slow!"
"Pick the pace, will you, Emily?"
Emily sighed and rolled her eyes, and without a word, sped up quickly, causing the coaches to wail and groan.
"Now you're going too fast!" Clarabel moaned.
Emily quickly let off steam and gradually slowed back down to a snail's pace, much to the confusion of the coaches.
"Too slow! Much too slow!" Annie remarked. "We're not on the Main Line pulling an express or a heavy goods train!"
"Couldn't have put it any better myself!" Clarabel agreed. "Will she ever learn how to handle Branch Lines?"
Emily rolled her eyes and ignored them, before picking up the pace by a far amount. The coaches wailed and groaned once more.
"Too fast, Emily! Much too fast!" Annie cried out.
Emily sighed heavily and gradually slowed down, glaring back at the two coaches.
"This is exactly what we're talking about!" Clarabel noted.
"Quite right, Clarabel!" Annie agreed. "Emily is a very reckless engine! Very reckless indeed!"
At last, Emily lost patience and pinned her brakes hard, shutting her eyes and wincing as they screeched loudly. She just missed a green signal as she saw it turn red.
"What on earth are you doing now, Emily?!" Annie demanded.
"Doesn't she know a clear signal when she sees one?" Clarabel wondered.
"I, for one, wouldn't be the least bit surprised considering how many red signal she's almost missed…" Annie remarked.
PEEP-PEEP-PEEEEEEEP!
"That's quite enough from both of you!" Emily boomed.
The coaches quickly stopped in the midst of their ranting to the sound of Emily's loud whistle and gazed in surprise to listen to her. All at once, Emily settled down a bit and sighed.
"I'm sorry I snapped at you two," she apologized. "And I do admit that I'm only adjusting to how things run on the Branch Line as opposed to the Main Line. While I do take full responsibility for the numerous mistakes I've made, your constant ranting isn't really helping at all. Would you ever talk to Thomas that way?"
"Not necessarily," Clarabel admitted.
"And even Thomas can take risks by racing buses and bouncing his passengers about like peas in a pod!" Annie added. "But at least he knows how to run a Branch Line!"
"Therefore, we're more tolerant of him!" Clarbel noted.
Emily sighed and thought it all over, as she watched James whistle and pass with a long goods train.
"I understand your frustration with me over all the mistakes I've made so far," she told them. "But I never had any intention of racing Bertie despite your accusation that I did! And the things you say only hurt and make me feel even worse than I do over already making those mistakes!"
There was an awkward silence, the coaches thinking things over, as Emily took a deep breath.
"Look, I know how you two feel about me after having taken you out by accident on my first day. But I only thought you two were my coaches because you were the only two coaches in the Yard. And since then, even after I obtained coaches of my own, you two must have been very unsure about going out with me, and today, I only made it worse. Please, can you both forgive me?"
Realizing the errors of their ways, the coaches decided that they knew what they wanted to say to Emily.
"No, Emily. Forgive us, dear," Annie assured her, "We were the ones being too harsh on you."
"Huh?" Emily wondered confusedly.
"Erm, we were only trying to remind you of the mistakes you were making," Clarabel quickly added. "But perhaps we tried a little too hard and lost our patience."
"Quite right, Clarabel!" Annie beamed. "Couldn't have put it better myself."
Emily smiled at them.
"I accept your apologies," she assured. "And, I promise to be more mindful for the rest of the journey…given the chance, of course."
The coaches beamed at her, and Emily smiled right back, watching as her signal went green before whistling and heading off again.
"We promise to stop being so harsh," Annie decided.
"Indeed," Clarabel agreed. "Perhaps a little more patience will do."
"Erm, quite right, Clarabel, dear. Quite right."
Emily smiled as she continued along, the birds flying steadily over her as she chuffed through the countryside.
Throughout the duration of their return journey, the coaches were far more aware as they reminded Emily of what she had to do…
… … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … …
"Don't forget to pin your brakes now, Emily," Annie kindly reminded her, as they approached Maithwaite Station.
"I won't!" Emily promised.
She did so as they saw the station platform in plain sight up ahead, and gradually slowed down as she approached the platform. She wheeshed a bit of steam and smiled, as the passengers disembarked the train with no trouble at all.
"Impressive," Annie noted.
"If I may so myself," Clarabel added, then kindly reminded her, "now, Emily, dear, remember not to whistle until all your passengers are onboard.
"Sure thing!" Emily promised.
She waited till all her passengers got onboard and her guard's whistle before louding out a loud, long whistle.
"Goodness me!" Annie gasped. "Not too loud, please, Emily."
"Indeed," Clarabel dully noted.
"Whoops! Sorry," Emily muttered, as she slowly left the station.
"Not to to worry, dear. We live and learn," Annie assured her.
Emily smiled back as she gradually left the station.
… … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … …
As they made it along back through the countryside, Annie and Clarabel was very impressed by how vastly Emily was approving under their guidance.
Emily passed Edward and give him a slight toot of her whistle as Edward whistled right back at her.
"Wasn't too loud that time, was I, Annie and Clarabel?" she wondered, looking back at them.
"Not at all, dear," Annie beamed. "Just fine."
"Indeed, Annie," Clarabel agreed. "She's learning rather quickly, I'd say."
Emily closed her eyes and sighed, taking a deep breath and smiling as she continued steadily.
"But I will admit," Annie joked. "You are going a little too fast."
"Oh, I couldn't agree more," Clarabel played along, exaggerating. "Much too fast."
The trio shared a good laugh as they continued along through the countryside back towards Knapford Station.
The three friends arrived back at Knapford Station all in good time, just as Thomas arrived back from his quarry run.
"Thomas!" the coaches exclaimed with joy.
PEEP-PEEP!
"Hi, Annie and Clarabel! I've missed you both while I was out on my quarry run! At least I've learnt to keep more regular track of time with it!"
He proceeded to edge further up to the platform and stop just beside the Sterling engine, before letting off steam.
"Hello, Emily!" he greeted. "How did your journey out out with Annie and Clarabel go?"
"Not bad, Thomas," Emily muttered.
"Ahem!" Annie coughed, beaming at her from behind.
"I mean, I…"
Thomas shot her a look of surprise, as Emily took a deep breath and looked over at her friend.
"I did make some silly mistakes along the way, but I've learnt quickly from them."
"Indeed," Clarabel quietly remarked, chuckling slightly along with Annie.
"But it was rather eventful in the end," Emily went on. "It was an excellent learning experience learning how Branch Lines run differently things on the Main Line, despite all the slip-ups I've heard along the way…"
"Huh?" Thomas wondered with confusion.
"She did a fine job, Thomas!" Clarabel admitted.
"Quite right, Clarabel," Annie added. "She did learn fast, and in fact, I'd say she did better than we'd thought."
"Oh, thank you, Annie and Clarabel!" Emily beamed. "Point is, Thomas, I'm just glad to be back on schedule with my own passengers."
Thomas watched Emily be unhitched from Annie and Clarabel and chuff slowly off to fetch her own coaches, then chuckled as he switched tracks and backed down onto his two faithful coaches. By this time, Emily had already fetched her coaches and rolled up into the platform besides her, both their passengers hopping quickly onboard and their guards' whistles blowing.
"Goodbye, Emily!" Annie called, as Thomas pulled them away.
"Nice going out with you!" Clarabel added.
"Goodbye, Annie and Clarabel!" she called back, as she exited the station. "Nice going out with you too! Maybe we can do it again sometime!"
"Again?" Annie gasped, eyes widening.
"Oh, my," Clarabel sighed, flustered at only imagining the thought of it.
Thomas chuckled loudly as he hurried quickly along.
Annie and Clarabel's day out with Emily was full of surprises, but they soon found out even Thomas had a few things they managed to get on him about.
"I do say, Thomas," Annie pointed. "You are going a little too fast."
"Quite right, Annie," Clarabel agreed. "Much too, much too fast!"
Emily chuckled, witnessing the commotion as she passed by, as Thomas managed to express a slight chuckle as well and sighed happily as he continued along out of Knapford Junction.
Well, here we have it. For the first time this set, a Steam Team member officially gets the starring role, and it's one I've never used before. Exploring Emily's dynamic with Annie and Clarabel in a similar fashion that it was from the get-go when she first arrived was fun to do; the coaches are pretty used to her by this point, to an extent where they're able to have fun with her in No Snow For Thomas, but they remain not entirely trusting of her due to the incident when she first took them out, and keep in mind that she is a Main Line engine, and judging how James handled them in JBS in Thomas' absence; they remain alert to how Emily handles them, though perhaps they try a little too hard to convince her of what she's doing wrong and are therefore too harsh on her, making it difficult for Emily to learn from her mistakes. I will admit, it's an aspect of Annie and Clarabel I wasn't sure about until the outcome of all this and it ended up being a blast to write, and I do think that the way Davey Moore had written them in The Railcar And The Coaches as they squared off against Daisy and began to use their self-defensive side is a good candidate for being an inspiration towards how they're written here. Anyway, feel free to leave your thoughts on this story. Next up in line is my first returnee for Set 3, one whose made an explicit cameo here, so as always, stay tuned for…
Peace At Last - Murdoch is transferred to Vicarstown to help out with the goods duties, however he is immediately unsettled by the loud, noisy environment, and finds himself constantly late with his trains attempting to seek the peace and quiet of the countryside.
Put Upon Peter Sam - Peter Sam is always keen to help other engines in a state of bother, however his generous nature is exploited when Rheneas is in need of repairs and other engines bribe him into doing their work as well as his own.
Edward And The Cabbages (based on the story of the same name by Christopher Awdry) - James is late delivering some passengers for Edward's train, and as the #2 blue engine attempts to make up for lost time, his wheel goes missing in a cabbage patch, which is later discovered by the farmer.
All Steamed Up - it's harvest festival time, and Isobella has to pull the float with the choir on it when Trevor breaks down. Isobella doesn't want to miss out on the fun the other vehicles have while she is off-site, but soon finds that fun is what she can make it.
Playing Ghosts - Mike doesn't believe Jock's ghost story that his driver told him and calls him silly, so Jock devises a plan to pay him out, which backfires as he also scares Bert and Rex in the process, and causes all three engines to be too scared to come out of their sheds!
