Part Ten:

Kobra

Jason Burr arrived at a conclusion: Having your soul stolen wasn't all that bad. The company was quite diverse within the Soultaker Sword. He was locked up with philosophers, soldiers, generals, spies, politicians, billionaire industrialists, and even scientists like himself. There was only one thing they had in common: They were all enemies of Ra's al Ghul.

Jason was a single drop in a well of knowledge. The Demon's Head had made thousands of enemies in his thousands of years wondering the world. And Jason was learning from them all. He learned ideologies that could form a religion that would unite millions under him. He could formulate military strategies perfected through thousands of wars. He knew secrets that foreign leaders would beggar their people to keep hidden.

He knew the locations of secret caches of funds in the billions hidden in black market transfers. Martial arts mastered by sensei's hidden from the known world for his to use. If he had a body. Even the inner workings of the League of Assassins were now an open book to him courtesy of Silver Monkey. Bethany Ravencroft was as terrifying as she was brilliant. The inhuman experiments she conducted fascinated him as a scientist but horrified him as a human, but then Jason wasn't really human anymore. None of them were. That part was ripped away from them all.

But the one soul Jason was happiest to learn from was Edogawa, the father of his beloved Tatsu. That man loved her as much as Jason. It was beautiful as they told the other their memories of their brief time with her. Then came the greatest news Jason had learn since he was trapped within the jade sword. Edogawa Yamashiro accepted him as his daughter's beloved and knew Tatsu couldn't have found a better man.

Just when Jason thought he couldn't be happier, then came freedom. The Soultaker Sword's hold over them was released and they were free! It was glorious as they came spilling out back into the material world! Glorious revenge! While most of those inside the sword took care of Ra's al Ghul, Jason, Bethany Ravencroft, and Silver Monkey ripped Lady Shiva apart.

It was quite an uplifting experience, learning that he could kill evil people despite being dead. It would help him for what he had planned.

Jason sparred one last look at his beloved. With his mind expanded, it was clear to him now that she was Katana and their employer, Bruce Wayne, was the Batman. His love and benefactor were the two most generous people in the world. The least he could do was make the world a safer place for them.

He could do it now. Jason had gained tremendous abilities, prowess, and knowledge from his time within the magic sword. It was within his power to take over the world. He would rule it with an iron fist, leading it into an age of peace and order with Tatsu as his queen.

Jason left the Gotham City Dam. He knew what to do. With Ra's al Ghul's death, his empire would quickly fall apart. Only someone who knew the organization as well as he did now could gather up the pieces and rule it. He just needed a body.

The information gleamed from Dr. Ravencroft provided one. That woman was involved in a plethora of mad science ranging from experimental super soldiers like Margaret Sorrow and Eduardo Flamingo to, best for him, genetic engineered superior beings.

He learned from the well of souls that Lady Shiva had one commissioned twenty-five years ago when MI6 agent Alfred Pennyworth trapped Ra's soul within the Soultaker Sword. She feared that his body would perished by the time he was free and had a better body prepared for him to inhabit. But his body was preserved though pressurized gasses distilled from a Lazarus Pit, which he now knew the location of too.

That left a body for him that was the model of Friedrich Nietzsche's Übermensch. The League of Assassins had created the superman and that body would be his.

Free of all physical limitations, Jason's spirit traversed across the globe quickly until finally reaching a lab run by a bio-tech firm owned by a dummy corporation in Paris, France. Within its confines was the pinnacle of human achievement.

The body was magnificent. Tall, powerful, every bit the superman the League's scientists made it to be. It was like one of the action figures he played with, encased within a giant glass tube filled with clear fluid, a toy still in its packaging.

There were just two scientists in the lab with several guards. They were of no importance. Jason's soul entered the body, his essence filling the vessel, his avatar.

The staff outside the lab equipment jumped back when their test subject's eyes snapped opened and started moving, punching the thick glass tube. One strike filled it with spider web-like cracks and the second shattered it. The magnificent being landed gracefully outside on the lab floor and gazed down at the peons cowering before him.

The guards pulled out their firearms and took aim. Jason's superior reflexes and speed enabled him to dodge their shots. He grabbed both by their heads with his powerful arms and with the skills honed from countless martial artists' lessons, snapped both their necks. He dropped their dead bodies on the floor.

He paid them no mind. There was no heaven on earth that was not built on human bones.

"Wa-wa-wait!" One of the scared scientists raised his hand. "Da-da-do you know what you are? Who you are?"

Jason smiled, his superior intelligence working through thousands of processes within his super brain. An ancient wiseman shared with him tales of old deities that nations worshiped and waged war. Kali Yuga, an age of chaos that he would bring about to the modern world. What better name than the messiah of this dark time?

"I am Kobra, dear doctor. You will call me Master Kobra."

The Age of Chaos has begun.

I'm still confused why BtB had Jason Burr in the show and not be Kobra. Maybe they were saving that for season 2, which isn't going to happen unfortunately. I mean, of all the super nerds in DC's Who's Who, why him? Maybe the writers were going to bring in the Kobra Cult for season 2 is the only reason I can think of. Seriously, after Jason got killed by Lady Shiva, the poor fellow was never mentioned again. The guy was totally stuffed in a fridge!

It was tough writing this chapter. I was really hoping to have this done around the first of May but I was off by two weeks. Forgive me but this one was a tough story to write. Before I saw episode 13 Darkness I was utterly convinced that Jason Burr was going to kill Ra's al Ghul, take over the League of Assassins, rename it the Cult of Kobra, and use the Ion Cortex to become the show's new big bad. You can imagine my surprise when Lady Shiva just straight-up offed him and then was quickly forgotten. The least the writers could have done was give him a farewell scene with Tatsu but that scene was with her dad.

Jason gets no love. That's why I showed him some here. I based his Khan Noonien Singh body off of Kobra's design from the Young Justice cartoon. Kobra was so cool looking in the 'toon: pale skin, muscular body, and blood red armor. I hope everyone else believes I made that nerd into a credible threat ala Dr. Doom.

Until next time, read and review!
