Chosen of the Wind

[I do not own Moana or How to Train Your Dragon.]

Enjoy the product of months of 'oh people still like this?' And 'it's kinda decent?'! Tell me what y'all think, please! The reviews I've gotten still warm my heart and make me want to finish for y'all. Really, really makes me want to finish a project for once in my life. Even if I take forever.

—I have been neglecting to mention Hiccup's helmet and will try to remember it more from now on. The beginning of this chapter he has it on! Tamatoa's song is in bold, and I used my own punctuation and stanzas to give some more flair to the lyrics.—

Tid-Bit Notes: Also, sorry this might be messy, but I have worked on this in bits and pieces over all this time. ALSOALSO! I have updated past chapters, some typo fixes, a few tiny context fixes, just edited a bit. - artisticRadifyer

Summary:

After fighting the Red Death and a murderous tyrant by the name of Drago Bludvist, Hiccup wouldn't think he would have any more outstanding adventures as big as those. Yet, he must set off to try and stop this 'Darkness' that is spreading across the Barbaric Archipelago. Meeting two people who will not work together, being on a time limit, and trying to keep himself alive around God's, a Demigod, two limited-power elements, and a mentally challenged chicken does not help anything.

Chapter 5 - Tamatoa

The next few seconds of falling, went from light, to pitch black, to glowing, to drenched. The water had bubbles streaming everywhere in spirals and a current propelled them deeper and deeper.

Hiccup saw specks below them that were probably their companions, and worried about the end of this trajectory.

Moana was just a teen and Maui probably wouldn't catch the girl, even if he realized she had jumped down so quickly after him. They didn't need any injuries on this mission; but with the speed the water sucked them below, someone could at least sprain a foot if they didn't slow down.

The duo saw the glow around them brighten and Hiccup found what looked to be the surface of the water racing toward them. They burst through the end of their ride, but instead of the water being below them, Hiccup realized it was still above them; which caused his senses to be thrown for a loop. Toothless' wings unfurled from their previously curled positions at his side and they were wrenched a bit from the sudden catch of air.

Hiccup's mind was still dizzy between Toothless' jerky flying and his body's sense of direction, but he caught a glimpse of Moana tumbling down the side of a land structure below them. The pair righted themselves and took off in the direction Hiccup saw Moana fall.

They encountered beasts almost immediately, and blasted a few that attack, including a huge thing that loosely looked like a malformed Bewilderbeast. Hiccup looked for Moana as much as he could without crashing or getting hit. Right when they spotted her, the duo had to swerve around a geyser that shot straight up in front of them. Circling back, they saw she was gone.

Hiccup has Toothless land to get some cover from the creatures everywhere. The Berk pair found they didn't need to look for the southerners as the voices of their companions ended up being nearby. The two argued over something, and, after a brief pause, Hiccup heard Maui say,

"Except… Maybe as bait."

Hiccup switched from approaching to spying, and he and Toothless creep forward to a spot to eavesdrop easier on the conversation.

The plan they come up with is to have Moana distract Tamatoa so Maui can grab the Hook. Hiccup's opinion of Maui is rapidly plummeting, putting a girl who seems to barely have any experience in such a dangerous position. Hiccup would say that Moana would be capable, but Maui also didn't tell the girl, or Hiccup, anything regarding what Tamatoa is (seeing as monsters are a thing here, which means this place was definitely not Helheim. Maybe the translating thing he received from Njord didn't have the right equivalent?), any advice on how he fights, or any weaknesses.

The two southerners had now gone inside the cave, and Hiccup waited a few moments before he and Toothless followed. They lingered in the doorway to scope out the place. Hiccup took a moment to pull out some extra cartridges for his sword, and to check the straps on his helmet and parts of the duo's shared harnesses.

Moana was sarcastically doing her part of the plan near a huge pile of riches. Banging a small drum with a bone that was shaped like a combination of a hammer and axe. "Wow!" Bang. "A shiny, glittery cave!" Bang. "And just like me," Bang. "it is full of sparkly treasure." She does three more beats in time with each word she said next: "Sparkle. Sparkle. Sparkle."

Maui had retreated behind a rock and whisper-yelled as he leaned over it to encourage Moana's performance. "You're not sellin' it!"

Moana brought the items in her hands up to indicate the plan, matching the volume Maui used. "This is stupid! I'm just gonna walk up and get it!"

"You go up there, and he will kill you. Just stick to the plan."

Bang, bang, bang.

"Oh! When he shows up, keep him distracted. Make him talk about himself. He loves to talk about how great he is."

Hiccup was not impressed with the timing, lack of more information, and the almost brush-off delivery of Maui's advice. The male southerner wasn't giving the teen very much to help her succeed.

"You two must get along swell!" Bang.

"No, not since I ripped off his leg."

At least now Hiccup finally knew there was a definite weakness to exploit.

Bang. Moana startled as she processed what the demigod said and the drum stutters with the next Bang. "You ripped off his— Maui?"

The cave began to rumble, and with all the noise as cover, Hiccup and Toothless raced to a spot of coral and rock to be closer and hidden better.

The mound of treasure was lifting, and Hiccup tensed as he watched Moana slip from her perch on the edge of the pile. The back of the two giant shells she had on top of her clothes was snatched by a large claw, and she was brought in front of the largest crab Hiccup had ever imagined.

The crab chuckled. "What have we here?"

Moana gasped.

"It's a sparkly… shiny… Wait a minute." Tamatoa tossed Moana into the air to rid the bait costume she wore, and caught her by her midsection. "Ugh! It's a human! What are you doing down here, in the Realm of Mons—"

Moana had been switching her gaze between the enormous crab's eyes, unsure where to direct her attention.

"—Just pick an eye, babe. I can't—I can't concentrate on what I'm saying if you keep… Yeah, pick one, PICK ONE!"

Moana settled on the crustacean's right eye.

Hiccup had to bite his cheek hard in order to not make any noises. This Tamatoa was already shaping up to be someone Hiccup would love to annoy until they ripped their hair out. ...Or rip off treasure...? ...Annoy to death.

Tamatoa brought the girl closer to inspect the necklace that held the Heart. "Well you're a funny-looking thing, aren't you?"

Moana snatched the necklace to her chest, away from the tip of the claw that pulled it. "Don't! It's my grandma's!"

"'It's my grandma's!'" the crab mocked her. He then got in Moana's face. "I ate my grandma! And it took a week, 'cause she was, absolutely humongous. Why are you here?"

Hiccup was broken from his observations by a grunt, presumably from Maui, on the other side of the cavern.

Tamatoa slowly started to turn to investigate the sound, and Moana caught his attention with panicked, reaching arms,

"'Cause you're AMAZING!"

The crustacean snapped back to look at the human in his claw, and listened as she continued to talk and emphasize with hand gestures:

"And we mortals have heard of the Tale of the Crab, who became a legend! And I just had to know how you became so…"

Tamatoa leaned unnervingly closer.

"Crab...ulous? Heh..." she finished, folding her arms in front of her chest.

Tamatoa leaned in further. "Are you just trying to get me to talk about myself? Because if you are…" He straightened up eagerly. "I will gladly do so!"

Hiccup accidentally spoke his confusion out loud with Moana. "'Huh?'"

"In song form!" Tamatoa tossed a coin upwards into the water that pretended to be the sky, which rippled the surface and made the light in the cave glisten and streak across the walls and floor; along with the reflective treasure on the monster's shell.

Well, Tamatoa hasn't always been this glam—;

I was a drab little crab once.

Now I know I can be happy as a clam—;

Because I'm beau—tiful, Bay—Beh.

The song surprises them, but the Berkians quickly get over it; trying to stick to the main objective they were down here for. They let the crab sing as they make their way to a higher vantage point.

Did your granny say: "Listen to your— hea—rt?

"Be who you are— on the in—side—?"

I need three words to tear her argument a—part—:

"Your granny LIED!"

Seeing Moana helpless in the claws of their enemy, Hiccup and Toothless carefully watch for the missing limb on the spinning singer.

I'd rather be

Shiny~~

Like a treasure from a sunken pirate wreck—,

Scrub the deck— and make— it look

Shiny~~

Tamatoa settles, and the duo shift their position to line up with the less supported side.

I will sparkle like a wealthy woman's neck.

KKKCT!

Just a sec!

Don't you know—ah?

The decapod drew his own attention away from Moana, to the fish above them, and Hiccup figured they could still salvage the original plan the Southerners had. "Toothless, get us on the shell."

Fish are dumb—, dumb—, dumb—,

They chase anything that glitt—ers—! (beginners!)

Oh—! And here they come—, come—, come—,

To the brightest thing that— glitt—ers—!

Mmm! Fish dinners!

They both leap to the shell and immediately split directions: Toothless toward the Hook, where Maui approached from the other side, and Hiccup towards Moana to confuse the monster.

I just love freefood—.

And you look like seafoo

Hiccup sprung his flaming sword toward the gaping mouth Moana was being lowered to. It landed.

"AUGH!"

The humans fall harshly to the ground. They see the monster begin to retaliate, but he is interrupted.

"HEY! CRAB CAKE!"

Hiccup pays Maui no attention and drags Moana away to hide near the walls.

Toothless chose to crouch on the shell behind Maui, just out of Tamatoa's sight.

Maui wrenched up the Hook. "I'm back." He kisses the weapon. "It's Maui Time!"

Hiccup isn't surprised when Maui puts on a display of power instead of simply escaping right that second with the item. The man confidently activated the shapeshifting power, but it's clear after a moment he has no control over it.

Well, well, well—...

Little Maui's having trouble with his look.

You little semi—, demi—, mini—god—!

Hiccup observes Tamatoa's movements, which were keeping Maui and Toothless off-balance.

Owuh—ch! What a terrible performance!

Get the hook! (get it?)

You don't swing— it like you used to, man—!

He reloads a few backup Zippleback cartridges as Maui is thrown off, and waits for an opening.

Toothless was clinging to the treasure, and now leapt off, since he was unable to to strike with all the tossing.

Yet I have to give you credit for my— start—;

And your tattoos on the out—side—.

Tamatoa takes his time strutting closer to the yeeted Maui; toying with the foolish demigod.

For just like you I made myself a work of art—.

I'll never hide! I can't! I'm too

Shiny~~

As Maui is once more launched in the air, Hiccup runs forward to meet Toothless midway, his sword set to spray the first burst of gas.

Watch me dazzle like a diamond in the rough.

Strut my stuff! My stuff is so—

Shiny~~

The singer hopped over to the observing humans before Hiccup started spraying, and though Toothless is able to juke Hiccup away, Moana gets caught once more.

Send your armies but they'll never be enough!

My shell's too tough.

Moana is immediately tossed into a cage presumably made of rib bones. Hiccup almost began his ambush, but Maui now lay in the center of the fight. Even though the demigod could probably handle it, Hiccup wanted to avoid friendly fire as much as he could.

Mau—i— man—, you could try—, try—, try—,

But you can't expect a demi—god—,

To beat a decapod—! (look it up!)

As Maui got closer to the Hook, Tamatoa replaced his attention on the straining man. Dragging the demigod's body harshly against the ground, slamming a claw onto him, and viciously scraping him off the Hook before replacing it on the shell.

You will die—, die—, die—,

Now it's time for me to take— a—part—

Your aching heart—.

The crustacean punched the wall, and a second later the opening in the top of the cavern was covered by an object. The area was bathed in dark shadow for only a moment before parts of Tamatoa, the cavern, and Toothless began to glow

[Half Time Tempo Change]

Far— from— the— ones— who— a—ban—doned you—,

Cha—sing— the— love— of— these— hu—mans—,

Who— made— you— feel— wan—ted—.

Hiccup was completely baffled by his comrade's new colors. They looked nothing like the Inner Fire of his Alpha Nightfury. "Toothless. What in Thor's name. How ar— nevermind. No. Later."

You tried— to be— tough—;

But your armor's— just— not hard— enough!

Hiccup shoved his confusion away as best he could to focus back on the fight.

Ma—ui~~

Now— it's time— to— kick— your—,

High—neey~~

With the crab's attention solely on Maui for the moment, Hiccup and Toothless shifted their efforts to help Moana out of the cage she was already climbing.

Ever seen— some—one— so

Shi~neh~~

Soak it in 'cause it's the last— you'll ever see—!

C'est la vie— mon a—mi—!

I'm so

Shi~neh~~

When Moana landed on the other side of the barrier, the three allies noticed the glowing algae could be spread onto things.

Now I'll eat— you, so prepare your final plea—.

Just for me—.

Moana didn't even consult with Hiccup; snatching up a barnacle and slathering the bio-luminescence algae all over it.

You'll never be— quite— as—

Shi~~ny~~

You wish you were— nice— and—

Shiiiii~~~~neeeeeeeeh~~~~~~!

Maui was tossed in between Tamatoa's teeth, and Moana rushed past Hiccup to yell at the enemy.

"HEY! I got somethin' shiny for ya!"

The monster spit Maui out. "The Heart...of Te Fiti. You can't run from me!"

Moana gasps and takes off.

"Oh. You can. You keep surprising me!" The crab gives chase.

Hiccup and Toothless dodge out of the way, and the Nightfury blasts the complete set of legs to force Tamatoa to balance on the weaker side.

The blast also makes Moana stumble and the fake Heart flies forward.

Tamatoa ricochets himself off the wall and dives for the general ground the decoy landed in. He began frantically digging; declaring his want and need for the power of Creation.

The group meets in the entrance of the crab's home and Moana swiftly ducks under one of Maui's arms. Hiccup would have helped the demigod as well, but he then heard their enemy,

"Wait a minute." He scoffs. "I see. She's taken a barnacle...and she's covered it in bio-luminescent algae... as a diversion. Agh!"

The dragon and rider spin around and shoot the crustacean once more. They then turn again to follow their companions towards a geyser.

The geyser blasted the demigod and teen up to the suspended water. Hiccup and Toothless raced to get to the geyser before it stopped blasting, and Tamatoa recovered enough to be right behind them.

The two made it to the exit, and caught a brief glance of Tamatoa getting flung onto his back. The two Berkians pierced the water above and launched up to what Hiccup hopes is the regular sky, sea, and land.
