Chapter 67: The Psychic Sniper

Greninja and Noivern soon joined Frost and Cynthia away from the fight as they came to check on their trainer.

"Noivern..."

"Gren gren."

"I am fine, both of you don't worry too much," Frost replied as he patted both of them.

Having listened to Cynthia's pleas Frost decided to not join up with the other Rangers currently fighting the giant humanoid.

"Champion," Frost called out to Cynthia who was too busy watching Rain to correct Frost for using her title.

"Huh.. yeah what's up?"

"Get ready," he told her.

[What?]

"Alright, but what is the plan?"

"Don't worry once Rain's done explaining it to the two of them she'll glance back at us when she does so look at her," Frost explained sternly.

"Look at her?"

"Didn't you figure her out a few seconds ago?" Frost replied with a wink.

"Oh," Cynthia replied in affirmation.

Rain was a Psychic the rare race of humans capable of using extrasensory perception, she knew only a handful of them and each came with their unique ability so she guessed Rain was capable of telepathy without any indication from her ranger escort.

Frost who was sitting down with his back resting on a wall took out a small pouch with pills inside as he gulped down two of them. It was the same time when Rain who was busy with Stone and Ember looked back and Cynthia caught her form with her grey eyes.

There was no way to explain what just happened.

"Wow.," Cynthia muttered as such a vast amount of information just got sent to her mind.

[So that is how she Diantha feels when fighting with Gardevoir.] Cynthia had been in normal telepathy with Gardevoir before but this was just plain insane.

"Did you catch it all?" Frost asked as he stretched his arms and got back up.

"I did... but are you sure you are okay?" she asked him as he smiled.

"I'll be fine Champion it's not like I am the one doing the fighting."

Cynthia would have been skeptical about this but knowing the entire plan in her head she sighed in relief at the fact that Frost wasn't actually fighting.

"So you ready?" Frost asked again as she hadn't replied yet.

She simply nodded and that was all it took Frost to get fired up.

Both whistled to alert their flying companions as they flew right back into the action.

The second Rain saw Frost and Cynthia begin to move she commanded

"Ember! Stone! Get moving."

Both of them nodded and the three of them coordinated in complete sync.

The distraction was Ember as with sheer grace she leaped at the humanoid to keep its focus on her so that Rain and Stone could begin setting up the trap.

A spool of wire was thrown at Stone by Rain who promptly caught it and tied it around the nearest stop sign.

Passing the spool back to Rain who ran straight to the humanoid and called out to Ember.

"Em! Get it closer."

"OKAY! HERE WE GO!" she yelled in between of a flip as she darted under the swing of the humanoid and continued towards Stone who was standing near the edge of the street.

In the sky Frost commanded

"Noivern Flamethrower!"

The flying/dragon type reigned down flames just ahead of the path the robot was trying to take making it stop to reconsider.

"WE NEED MORE HEAT!" Rain yelled as Frost called out.

"EMBER!"

"RAPIDASH FLAMETHROWER!" the redhead commanded as the fire horse immediately joined the fray with a powerful move of his own.

In the slight moment of hesitation from the giant humanoid Rain jumped in and wrapped the wire around one of the humanoid's wrist, quickly retreated afterward.

As the humanoid tried to attack Rain its attention was quickly occupied again by Ember who jumped towards it again, since the explosives were still with her the robot couldn't simply ignore her.

It was clear that the robot couldn't handle multiple opponents at once especially if they were this well coordinated. There was no gap in their attack everything they did against it they did with sheer precision and timing.

The robot was getting visibly pressured but unfortunately for it, this wasn't the end as seemingly out of nowhere without any sign a yellowish purple streak of light struck the humanoid in the back with such force that it lost footing and had to step forward... right into the melted asphalt of the road.

"NOW GRENINJA HYDRO PUMP!" Frost yelled as with the help of Garchomp's Hyperbeam an opening was made.

When the steam settled the Humanoid's feet were stuck deep in the asphalt of the road effectively making it immobile and when it tried to move its arms one of them got caught in the wire trap laid by Rain who by now was anchored on a car far back still holding the wire in her hands.

In desperation, the robot swung its other hand to save itself but here came in Stone who activated his Auran ability for the last time tonight and caught the arm mid-swing with both his hands.

"Yes!" Cynthia exclaimed as the giant was finally tamed and Ember who with a slight run-up executed a few front flips to gain enough momentum to land right on top of the 7-foot tall humanoid.

"Sorry dipshit but this is happening," she told the humanoid while staring into the camera lenses as she placed the explosives in the gap made by Frost and pulled the pins on them.

The fuse was long enough to give her time to jump off the robot and just as she landed the explosives went off.

BOOM!

The armor near the chest of the robot was completely blown to Smithereen as it revealed the soft metal covers underneath which were also partly damaged by the explosion.

"Go Rain!" Frost yelled as Ember quickly ran to the blue-haired sniper who was currently struggling to keep the wire taut.

"SWITCH!" she yelled as Ember took the wire from Rain's hands but in between this exchange, the robot went into high gear as the hydraulics in its arms moved once more and tried to set themselves free in a last-ditch effort.

This sudden pull took Ember by surprise as she couldn't get a good grip on the wire before it was pulled out.

"FUCK!" she cursed as this mishap had the risk of a giant humanoid setting itself free.

Lucky for her Cynthia and Frost had the presence of mind to step in to save her as they grabbed the wire from behind Rain.

"RAIN! GOOOOOO!" Frost screamed as he struggled to keep the humanoid steady without an anchor.

Her back being covered Rain ran towards the humanoid and rolled in between its legs now standing face to face with the mechanical giant.

She de-chambered her sniper rifle and placed a different type of bullet in the chamber as she pointed the now loaded sniper at the exposed chest of the humanoid she said a few parting words before pulling the trigger.

"Goodnight"

Frost instinctively covered Cynthia's ears as the loud sniper shot echoed through the streets of Lumious.

The loud boom was enough to startle Cynthia who almost shrieked as the shot was fired.

[What the hell was that, no way that was a normal bullet.]

"Champion are you alright?"

Cynthia snapped out of her thoughts when Frost who had his hands covering her ears asked with concern in his tone.

"I am fine thanks for that I didn't expect it to be this loud thank you for your help," she admitted rather shyly as both of them dropped the wire they was holding on for dear life a few seconds ago.

He smiled at her before turning to face the others.

"Is everyone okay?"

"I... am... fine...Leader." Stone and Ember both replied in between deep breaths it was clear to him that they had exhausted themselves trying to fight the giant.

While Stone was suffering from his Aura being depleted Ember was simply out of breath trying to keep the humanoid busy.

"Good, go back you two I and Rain can take it from here."

[NO!] Cynthia thought angrily.

"I can still keep going, Leader!" Ember's voice broke through.

Frost smiled at her calmly as he replied

"I know that Ember but we need someone to take Stone back since he can't move right now."

This wasn't fair she thought, she wanted to help him and he refused her straight up.

"Leader...can't the Champion take Stone back?" she tried to reason.

"Yes! I can take him back." Cynthia surprisingly agreed but Frost knew she had her own reasons for that.

Cynthia agreed to Ember's idea only so that Frost wasn't without backup since there was one humanoid still left.

"That won't work and you know why Ember so don't try it." his voice was sharper much more threatening than before.

And it clearly worked since Ember backed off as she recalled Rapidash back.

[This man is trying to get himself killed.] Cynthia was having a full-blown argument in her head.

Rain put the sniper rifle back on her back as she joined them.

"Frost take a breather you are overdoing it."

"YES finally someone actually understands," Cynthia exclaimed.

"I am fine Rain besides I can't rest yet there is still one left," Frost told her in defense.

"I know that but are seriously considering to fight it when you look like a train ran over you,"

"I am."

Rain sighed knowing this argument was going nowhere and will probably be a waste of time knowing Frost for so long.

Sighing in defeat she gave in

"Fine, Ember get stone out we can deal with the rest."

"Rain you cannot be going along with this." Cynthia countered.

"I am sorry Champion but I am and please don't concern yourself with this idiot he can handle it... even if it breaks him.." she whispered the last part so as to not say too much.

Cynthia was speechless, she gazed at Frost who was now checking in on Stone who was lying on the ground panting heavily.

[His body is hurt all over... and yet he just smiles...why?...how?...what happened to him that made him like this?... I don't want him to hurt himself more...I...I want to help him even if it is small I want to lift his burden.]

"If you actually tell him that he might actually be speechless." Rain told her out of the blue.

"Huh! No, you didn't just do that!" Cynthia replied cheeks red.

"Oh, I am sorry that was supposed to be private." She tried to evade the subject teasingly.

"YES, IT WAS!" Cynthia screamed which got Frost to look at her confused.

"What happened?" he asked once returning to the two ladies.

"Oh nothing Champion here was just expressing her conce...mufgfg"

"NO STOOOOP!" Cynthia was blushing an even deeper shade of red now.

Tilting his head in confusion Frost decided to ignore the subject for now as he left them he told Ember one more thing as she began to leave with Stone.

"Ember... don't trust the Kalos branch meet up with Spark and Leaf and stay together."

Ember knew Frost had a different gaze for it most of the time he looked lazy or uninterested but he had a sharp gaze when talking about things seriously honestly it was what she liked the most about him... a dual personality to cater to all his needs. Frost was cold-hearted but at the same time he was kind and warm she didn't get how he managed to keep himself in check or was he even trying to do that. Since the start, she knew this man was strong, and with each passing mission, it was clear that her leader was someone who always sees a mission to the end.

"Yes Leader," she replied quietly.

His gaze softened as he told

"Good work Ember you were great out there."

She smiled at his remark as she helped Stone get back on his feet.

"Stone rest up you did well." Frost gave his parting words as he turned around to face Cynthia and Rain who were still bickering about something in between themselves.

"Leader," Ember called out to him and he stopped in his track.

"Be careful and Good luck." she voiced out as he simply hummed in response and left.

[Once again left behind] her mind voiced gloomily as she continued to stare at Frost's retreating back.

"He'll be fine, although I also wish he takes it easy sometimes."

That was an unexpected thing from Stone who stared at her face.

"I know right, but then again he wouldn't be our Leader otherwise," she replied.

"You've got that right," he added as both of them left the rest to their two seniors.

It was already way past midnight by now, Frost stood silently staring at the Moon when Greninja hopped in front of him.

"Greninja..gren?"

"I'll be fine you did great work buddy rest for now," Frost informed as his Pokemon nodded and the red light of his Pokeball engulfed him.

Noivern who still remained cooed as Frost patted him

"I'll still need you Noivern we need to move fast from now on."

"Noi Noiveen!"

"That's the spirit." Frost smiled as he finally faces the two bickering women.

"Both of you lets go."

Cynthia stopped holding the shorter woman in a neck hold as Rain added

"Alright, but where do we start?"

"Spark's figuring out right now so as you said before we are taking a break," Frost told her as he prepared to fly with the help of Noivern.

"Wait you go with the Champion and I'll take Noivern someone needs to be close to her to protect her.

"Good call."

"Do I even get a say in this?" Cynthia asked in between as the two Rangers stared at and replied in unison.

"No."

"Okay fine... I was just asking.. geez."

Rain took her Leave first and it left Frost alone with Garchomp and Cynthia.

As Cynthia hopped on first she offered her hand to Frost who accepted it while thanking her.

"I'll have to warn you Garchomp's pretty fast so hold on tight."

"Oh, it is not my first time flying Champion I'll be fiIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINEEEE!" Frost immediately wrapped his arm around Cynthia the second Garchomp took off.

[HOLY SHIT!]

To say Garchomp was 'Pretty Fast' was a God damn understatement.

"You were saying~" Cynthia chirped from the front as Frost caught his breath.

"Okay... let's not do that again..." he muttered weakly as he was currently lucky to be in one piece after that insanely fast and unexpected take-off.

"How was it?" she asked cheerily.

Frost having steadied himself replied

"Honestly the difference in power is blatant."

She smiled completely satisfied with the answer but immediately after she asked seriously.

"So you have any idea where the last one is?"

Frost tensed at the change of tone

"Not yet but we can't leave this unattended."

"And it needs to be you to attend to this?"

"Yes"

She sighed

"Fine if you don't quit then I won't as well,"

"I am sorry.."

"Don't be if seeing you as taught me anything is that you are as stubborn as I am just in your own right, trust me I don't want to stop either but seeing you... guys get hurt isn't easy so please be safe."

She answered without looking at him so she missed the faint change in expression his face showed when he heard her.

"No promises," he answered honestly and Cynthia smiled bitterly.
