Chapter 1: We WHAT!?

Ash blinked...he felt nothing strangely. He saw a void with a chess patterned floor surrounding him with two chairs and a small arm desk next to one. He saw his reflection starting back at him: the same mid-back length ash grey hair, pale skin, amber eyes, and 16 year idk face. "Where am I?" He asked as he walked forward. His foot-falls echoed in the nothingness as he approached the chairs and suddenly saw a bright light.

"Ash Rosan, welcome to the afterlife." A woman with blue hair said as she walked over. Ash looked her over: blue clothes and fair skin, she sat down in the chair with the arm rest and gestures for Ash to sit across from her.

"Wait...afterlife?" Ash asks as he slowly sits in the chair. "I died?" He sits and she nods.

"Yes, according to the accounts you died in your sleep. You've been sick for some time now, and the illness finally got to you. I am the Goddess Aqua, I guide young people who have died early to their next destination." She says making Ash nod in understanding.

"I figured as much...so, what now?" He asked simply.

Aqua was shocked at his reply. "You're taking this rather well- normally people freak out when they're told they died. I'd expect someone who was as into games and his studies like you would be a bit more surprised." She says to him bringing a bag of chips to her and taking one out to eat. Of all the thousands of people she's done this for it wasn't unheard of to find someone so accepting right off the bat, but they still interested her since it diverted from the usual yelling and crying.

"If I am dead then that's that. There was no guarantee of my survival and I can't go back I take it. So what happens to my spirit now? Is it a Heaven or Hell thing? Reincarnation?" He asks again.

Aqua stood and walked to him. "Well, you can be reborn and start over again from day 1, go to Heaven and lounge around like an old man in the sunlight for all eternity without a psychical body, or...go to another world with your memories and current self as well as a gift." She said. Ash straightened up at the last option.

"Gift you say?" He asks simply getting a nod.

"Yes, you see this world is plagued by the chaos and slaughter of the Demon King and his army. As such people don't wanna be reborn their: so is Gods thought why not send people their, to destroy this Demon King, who died early?" She explained. "We ran into the problem 'they'd be to weak', so to rectify this we grant anyone who chooses this 1 item to take with them: a weapon, equipment, anything that would exist is possible." She says after dramatically throwing out cards to show her point. He looked them over before nodding.

"Alright, I accept this world and challenge. And I have an item in mind but..."

"But?" Aqua asks sitting back down and leaning back eating another chip.

"I also don't want to stay human. It may sound edgy, but I've already lived life as a human. What's the fun in going through again I'd I already know the outcome? I know you said only 1 gift but...would it be alright if I got that gift and changed species somehow?" He asks her getting a surprise look as she hurriedly flipped through the pages of some sort of manual.

"Uuhhhh...oh here! It seems I can do this for you, but you must remain at least half human. You can only be mixed with 1 other thing: so what is it you wanted to be half of?" Aqua asks after landing on the right page. Ash was surprised to say the least; the fact they had a field manual for this was entertaining in some capacity to him.

"Alright...how about half-demon. Have a longer life than normal and survive things like illness' that got me in my past life." He said simply.

Aqua smiled and nodded as she snapped her fingers. Suddenly a circle appeared below him and he felt something within him change. It hurt a bit, like a burning prod poking at him. When it was down he looked himself over and noticed no physical change. "What, expected to look like what humans commonly call demons? I'll inform you now, most demons are actually rather human looking and quite decent. Very few are ever as bad as people say they are. Now, what is your chosen gift? Do hurry it seems someone else needs my guidance." Aqua said trying to speed things along.

Ash stood back up and thought. A character from a game he played a bit ago came to mind, a favorite of his in fact. "I want...the Devil Arm Yamato." He said.

With another snap of her fingers the very katana he came to know and love was in his hand sheathed and ready.

"Everything is set. Brave hero, I thank you for taking this journey; if you are successfully your quest we shall grant you any wish you want." Aqua said as another circle of light sprung up beneath Ash and he began to float away. "Good luck." She says as he vanished. She flopped back into her chair and sighed. "Another gone." She says as a light flashes and stepped in another person. "Hello Akira welcome to the afterlife." She says as a teen steps forward.

He had black shoulder length hair, brown eyes, and beige skin. He stood at about 5 feet 9 inches tall as he sat at he chair before her.

"So I take it I'm dead now. This isn't what I meant by I'd rather die than go to work today." Akira says jokingly but with a sigh as well. Aqua tilted her head at this but proceeded anyway.

"Would you be interested in knowing how you died?" She asked the human before her getting a nod.

"Sure, why not? I mean I can't do anything about it."

"Well. You're rather calm for someone who literally just died." Aqua remakes, just like the last one that just left. "But okay. You died because you started a flash fire at the restaurant you worked at. I don't know how many brain cells you have to where you open a propane tank completely and start a burner." She says laughing a bit at the stupidity of the human before her.

"Well shit. I knew it was kinda hot. Did the shitty restaurant burn down at least?" Akira asked hopefully. Of all the places he hated, that restaurant was the highest up there. The manager sucked, the coworkers were shit-brains, and the higher tier management were idiots. Not to mention the customers...so many Karen's.

"No but they did have to scrape you off the floor so... I think you made your mark." Aqua said laughing at her own pun. "In other news I'm giving you another shot at life. You can make the choice of going to heaven or being reincarnated to fight the demon king. Choose wisely. You will also be given a gift to aid you." Aqua said simply with less dramatics then usual. She already met her quota for today so this one was basically overtime for her.

"You bastard. I heard free stuff. I'm in. I want this thing called Gilgamesh from this game I've been playing. It's fucking cool. I think you'd love it." Akira said. At least he was getting something out of this for free, he thought to himself mentally dust-pumping.

Aqua scoffed at the humans rude remark. "I have had enough of your stupidity for an eternity. Please get out. Go save the world or something. Don't blow yourself up again." She says snapping her fingers and sending the man on his way with his gift. "Oh help me please." She said with a drawn out sigh as someone teleported in.

"30 Eris says the first guy confuses everyone." The figure said, he was the god of gambling: Ember.

"Oh you're so on!" Aqua said sitting up and leaving with him to watch the reincarnation's first day.
