Marcus awoke to his alarm clock blaring. He let out a groan of annoyance as he reached over and pushed the snooze button then rolled over to lay on his back and stare up at the ceiling of his bedroom. He was glad that today was Saturday meaning he didn't have to worry about rushing to get ready for school. Marcus' eyes went wide when he heard the sound of footsteps making their way towards his bedroom door. He started panicking in his head, praying that whoever was outside his room wasn't coming near his door. He was so focused that he jumped when his bedroom door flew open and his father came storming in.
"Up and atta em, Private" his father barked.
Marcus got out of bed and stood at attention. He hated these mornings. His father David is a drill instructor for the police academy and Marcus knew that his father wished that Marcus would take more responsibility and take a career as a either a cop or join the army like his brother Sammy who was a cop for the Hazel Creek Police. Marcus didn't want any of that. What he wanted to do was to be an action star or a stunt person, but he knew that he could never tell his father that. He would never agree with him and might even kick him out of the house, so Marcus went along with what his father told him to do.
"Today is the day. Today is the first day of Boot Camp" David said with a toothless smile on his face.
Marcus could feel the color drain from his face, he had totally forgotten that his father had signed, no, forced him to sign up for junior boot camp.
"Oh yeah, I totally remember" Marcus said with a nervous chuckle as he rubbed the back of his neck. He waited until his father turned around and walked out of the room before falling onto his bed face first into his pillow. He let out a muffled yell into his pillow, then he pushed himself up off his bed. He slowly made his way over to his dresser and pulled out some clothes. He had just pulled on his black hoodie when he heard his cell phone go off. He walked over and picked it up to see that he had gotten a text from Sasha, which brought a smile to his face.
Sasha: Thanks again for checking on me and my sister last night.
Marcus felt heat rise up in his cheeks. He opened up the message app to respond only to stop when there was a knock at his door but before he could say anything the door opened and in walked his brother Sammy wearing his police uniform. Marcus and his brother had this thing where neither one had to say anything to the other for them to know what the other was feeling.
"What's wrong Pip?" Sammy asked him.
Marcus winced at the nickname, he hated the name Pip which was short for pipsqueak since Marcus was smaller than Sammy.
"Nothing" Marcus lied horribly.
Sammy let out a chuckle as he wrapped his arm around his younger brother's shoulders.
"Come on bro, I can read you like a book" Sammy said. "I know this isn't just about dad forcing you to boot camp…. It's a girl isn't it" Sammy said with a wider smile on his face.
He laughed when he saw the blush appear on his brother's face, Sammy smacked Marcus on the shoulder with a bit of force before getting up and walking out of the room leaving Marcus sitting there.
Marcus wanted to scream, he literally hated his family sometimes. He hated that this father was constantly pushing him to join some form of law enforcement. He hated that his brother constantly teased him without actually caring about his feelings. He couldn't wait until he went off to college but if that was going to happen, then he was going to have to finally stand up to his father and tell him that he didn't want to be a police officer or join the military. Marcus got up off the bed, made his way out of his bedroom down the hall and straight into the kitchen where his brother was making breakfast.
"Ready for boot camp Pip?" Sammy asked with smirk.
Marcus wanted to retort with a comment but quickly bit his tongue when his father entered the kitchen. He walked over to the fridge and grabbed a bottle of apple juice, popped it open then started to lift it to his mouth when he heard a familiar noise. He quickly looked over at his father and brother who were looking at him with their eyebrows raised. He let out a nervous chuckle before pulling his phone out of his front pocket. He shows it to his father meaning he had to answer it, before slowly backing out of the kitchen and quickly going back into his bedroom shutting the door behind him. He let out a deep breath then lifted up his sleeve to reveal his morpher.
"Go ahead" he says.
"Abby wants all to meet at HQ for training" Corey responded.
Marcus let out a huff, he didn't know what to do. He was supposed to go to the boot camp for with his father and now he was supposed to meet his friends for training. He placed his hands on his head and let out a small yell. He slowly lowered his hands back down to his side. He would much rather go train with his friends than boot camp so he had to figure out a way to spin it so that his father wouldn't get mad at him. Marcus took a deep breath then walked out of his bedroom and back into the kitchen.
"Who was that private?" his father asked.
"Oh, it was Corey from school and…." He started to say then a lightbulb went off in his head. "He just called to remind me that our history project which counts as half of our grade is due tomorrow and we need to finish it, so can I go finish the project?" he asked innocently.
"Fine, but that means training when you get home" his father said before going back to reading his paper.
Marcus smiled then rushed out of the house.
(!)
Marcus hit the ground. He stared up at the ceiling for a moment before sitting up to see Sasha standing there with a smirk on her face. She walked over and offered him her hand which he accepted allowing her to help him up to his feet. The two step back then get into fighting stance, but before either could move Marcus' phone went off. He sent her an apologetic look before pulling his phone out of his jacket pocket. He looked at the screen to see that it was his brother calling him. His finger hovered over the green button but at the last minute he pressed the red button and dropped it back onto his jacket. Marcus turned around and walked over to where Sasha was staring at him.
"What's wrong Angelo?" she asked.
"What not calling me Octopus Boy?" he asked with a raised eyebrow.
"Not during serious time no, so talk to me what's up?" she asked.
Marcus lowered his arms and let out a sigh before taking a seat on the ground, Sasha followed suit and sat down next to him.
"My parents separated when I was ten years old. I stay with my mother during the week cause she lives closer to the school and go stay with my dad on the weekends. My mother always taught me to value hard work and being a good person while my dad taught me to never to give up" Marcus said. "But my father has been pushing me to join the police like my brother Sammy or the army like he did when I graduate" he added before going quiet.
"But you don't want that do you" Sasha said, and he responded by shaking his head. "Then what do you want?" she asked him.
"I want to be an actor" Marcus responded then waited for Sasha to possibly laugh at his response but was happy when she didn't.
"Maybe you could be the next action star, I mean you can already do all your own stunts" she replied cheekily giving him a nudge with her elbow making him laugh. Marcus didn't know why but he felt happy that he could tell Sasha everything without being judged and really appreciated that he could finally trust someone. "Have you told your parents about your dream?" she asked him.
"I've tried so many times, but my dad won't have it unless it's what he wants, and mom would just be happy that I want to go to college" he replied.
Sasha looked down at the ground for a brief moment then jumped up to her feet and turned to face him before offering out her hand. He looked up at her with a raised eyebrow.
"Do you trust me?" she asked.
Marcus nodded his head then accepted her hand allowing her to help him to his feet, The two rangers then quietly made their way out of cave through the portal going back into the park.
(!)
Marcus took a long sip of his hot chocolate. He couldn't believe that in five days it would be Christmas. Another holiday where his parents try to act civil with each other. Another holiday where Sammy pretended to be the nice big brother and didn't treat Marcus as someone who was below than him. Marcus looked up just as Sasha walked over holding her own hot chocolate. The two shared a smile then started walking away from the coffee shop, 'Okay Angelo, this is it, this is when you finally tell Sasha how you feel' Marcus thought to himself as they walked in silence.
"So, there is something I…" they both said at the same time only to stop and laugh.
They walked in silence some more. Marcus finally mustered up the courage and turned to face Sasha but just as he opened his mouth the sound of police sirens could be heard making the two teens stop in their tracks. Marcus could feel the happiness inside of him die as his brother's police cruiser pulled up alongside them. Marcus stood there like a statue as he watched the passenger side window roll down, after giving Sasha a weak smile he walked over to the car and peered inside.
"Thought you told dad that you were working on a school project" Sammy said with a frown on his face.
"I just stopped to get a hot chocolate, I'm meeting my friend at the library" Marcus lied.
"Nice try, get in I'm taking you home" Sammy said.
Marcus opened his mouth to argue but stopped short before turning back over to Sasha who was watching them with a raised eyebrow. The younger Angelo brother quickly turned around to face his older brother with a pleading look before speaking.
"Listen, I really like this girl and I'm finally going to tell her how I feel so could you please leave me alone" Marcus pleaded.
"No, get in the car" Sammy said with a stern tone.
(!)
Zeltu watched the scene before him through his crystal ball. He was still furious that Kendrick had escaped his control and to make matters worse he had not been able to locate the traitor known as CopyKat either. So, he decided to turn his attention to the remaining Power Rangers. His monster along with Ursulias had failed to destroy the yellow ranger so he had turned his attention to the black ranger. Zeltu wasted no time as he walked over to machine and pulled the lever activating it.
He stepped back as the machine started to shake before coming to a stop and the door swung open. An elephant like monster wearing a military uniform stepped forward.
"General Tusk at your service master" the monster growled with a salute of his flipper.
"Destroy the rangers, starting with the Black Ranger" Zeltu growled.
"Yes sir." General Tusk said then teleported out of the cave.
(!)
Marcus felt anger towards his brother as he reached for the door but before he could open the door a portal opened up and General Tusk along with Kringlars appeared.
"Marcus, get your friend to safety" Sammy said as he grabbed his radio and started calling for backup.
Marcus stepped away from the car and ran over to where Sasha was helping people get to safety. The two didn't need to speak since they were both thinking the same thing. They ran off into the alley and stopped behind a dumpster. The two Rangers lifted their arms into the air and flicked their wrists to reveal their morphers.
"TRIDENT FORCE POWER UP!" They shouted.
[Morphing Sequence Begins]
Marcus is underwater when a Trident appears in front of him, the trident begins to glow then a beam shoots out at his feet. The beam moves upward covering his feet forming white boots, a black form fitting body suit covers his body and arms while white gloves appear covering his hands. The top of the trident came off and flew onto Marcus' chest as he did a back-flip landing on the sea floor. A black octopus appears, and as it gets closer to him it turns into a ball of blinding light before finally becoming his helmet.
Sasha is suddenly underwater when a Trident appears in front of her. The trident begins to glow then a beam shoots out at her feet. The beam moves upward covering her feet with white boots, a yellow form fitting body suit covers her body and arms while white gloves appear on her hands. The top of the trident comes off and flew onto Sasha's chest as she did a back-flip landing on the sea floor. Then a whale appears and as it gets closer to her it turns into a ball of light and finally becomes her helmet.
"Trident Power!" They shouted.
[Morphing Sequence Ends]
Marcus and Sasha run out from the hiding spot to the street to meet General Tusk and the Kringlars.
"First a lobster…" Sasha started.
"Then there was the mouse" Marcus added.
"Followed by the scarecrow" Sasha continued.
"And now an elephant, what's next, Evil Santa?" Marcus quipped.
The two Trident Force Rangers ran forward. They took the fight to the Kringlars. Sasha stopped in front of a Kringlar and hit it with a bicycle kick sending it flying backwards. She turned her attention to another Kringlar and quickly dodged its attack before connecting with a spin kick knocking it down to the ground. Marcus on the other hand cut Kringlar after Kringlar down with his chakrams but the moment he stopped his attack General Tusk rushed him, smashing into him and sent him flying backwards crashing into the windshield of Sammy's patrol car. Marcus groaned in pain as he rolled off the hood of the car landing on the ground. He slowly got to his feet and shook his head then looked over at Sammy who was looking at him in shock. What Marcus didn't realize was that his visor had been shattered from the attack and Sammy had seen his face, but before the older Angelo brother could speak Marcus ran off to re-join the battle.
"Marcus?" Sammy said in a shocked whisper.
Marcus ducked the attack from a Kringlar as he rushed towards General Tusk. His path towards the monster became blocked when a few more Kringlars appeared.
"Oh, come on man, I don't have time for this" Marcus growled in annoyance as he readied his chakrams for the battle that was about to come. Before either Marcus or the Kringlars could make a move Abby, Corey and Mikayla appeared and attacked the Kringlars blocking Marcus' path to General Tusk. Marcus smiled then sprinted straight towards the monster. Whenever a Kringlar happened to get in his way he would cut them down with his chakram. He came to a stop in front of General Tusk.
"Ah, Black Ranger so you volunteer to be the first to be destroyed, perfect!" General Tusk said as he brandished his battle axe.
Marcus didn't respond. He got into a fighting stance with his chakrams at the ready. The two fighters ran towards each other. Marcus brought his right chakram up and deflected General Tusk's axe. Then went to attack with his left one only for General Tusk to push his arm away with the end of his battle axe which left Marcus open and allowed General Tusk to strike him with his trunk knocking Marcus back. General Tusk ran towards Marcus with his battle axe up in the air. Marcus stood there and just as General Tusk reached him, Marcus jumped over General Tusk. He landed on the ground then slashed the monster in the back with his chakram. He kept up the attack as he spun his chakrams around General Tusk then threw him. The tornado from the chakrams swirled around General Tusk and pulled him in. Marcus stepped back as he pulled out his trident blaster. He pointed the blaster at the tornado and waited a few moments before firing off a few shots, which struck General Tusk multiple times knocking the monster down to the ground.
The other rangers ran over to meet Marcus since they had taken care of the rest of the Kringlars.
"Let's put them together" Marcus said with determination.
The four of them pulled out their weapons and tossed them into the air.
Abby's shield attached itself to the base of Corey's power saber to be used as the holder. Sasha's nun-chucks went into a formation of an L then attached themselves to the sides of the Power Saber. Marcus' chakrams attached themselves to the top of the nun-chucks. The combination of the weapons formed a trident that Sasha caught. The newly made weapon and the other three Rangers took their spots behind her.
Mikayla pulled out her Sting Ray Blaster and turned it into the bow transformation.
"Power Trident… Full power!" he shouted, then proceeded to mark an X in the air followed by bringing the Trident up through the X and across forming a star.
"Sting Ray blaster…. Full power!" Mikayla said as she fired off his Sting Ray Blaster hitting the middle of the star.
The attack destroyed General Tusk in a large explosion.
(!)
Marcus walked up the sidewalk to his father's house. He smiled as he recalled the time he spent with Sasha earlier in the day. He chuckled but the happiness he had felt slowly died when he saw his brother sitting on the bench outside the house. Marcus slowly made his way up the front steps and stopped when he reached the top step. The two brothers didn't speak, as they allowed awkward silence to fill the air between them.
"What happened to us?" Sammy asked him.
The question caught Marcus off guard.
"What do you mean?" Marcus asked as he walked over and leaned against the railing in front of his brother.
"I mean, when we were little we were the best of friends but now I realize that we've grown apart so much…"
"We grew apart when you became dad's favorite little solider" Marcus said cutting his brother off. "Dad is forcing his way on us and you went obediently along with it, but you know what? I'm sick and tired of him trying to force me to follow in his footsteps. I don't want to be him. I want to be me, and if you can't accept that then I want nothing to do with you" Marcus said angrily then turned and rushed down the steps and took off running ignoring Sammy calling his name.
