(Violet's Pov)
We've been staying inside the house for a few days as I would go out and hunt, Mary would sometimes join me or AJ or both of them would come with me while Clementine would stay and watch our supplies, I looked around a bit as I was walking in the woods alone with my rifle. Wasn't much to do or to say really as I just kept a look out for walkers that was all I really could do at this point honestly. I hear some movement in the bushes and saw a deer as I aimed my rifle I was about to shoot until I saw a heard of walkers going towards it and I groaned to myself as I slowly set my rifle down and shook my head as I headed back to the house. Once I got to the house, I walked up the steps to see AJ looking at me.
"You went off on your own again." He tells me and I nod as I go and set my rifle inside the house.
"You can't keep doing that you know." He says.
"I'll do as I please AJ you and the girls are fine." I say to him.
"I'm not worried about us I'm more worried about you."
"You don't have to be, I'm fine." I tell him.
"And if walkers get you?"
"Then so be it, look AJ I just wanted time to myself there ain't nothing wrong with that." I tell him and I hear some footsteps and turn to see Clementine and Mary.
"Look, I saw a heard of walkers coming anyway they got the deer I was hunting so we either leave or we just wait it out indoors." I tell them.
"Wait it out, we can be quiet." Mary says.
"I agree." AJ says to us and I look at Clementine who nods and I do as well.
"Ok, we stay here all we got to do is board up the windows better." I tell them and we all nod as we get to work. I was working on the fencing a bit and looked to the garden as well to check if any food was ok to take. I hear some movement behind me, and I turn to see Clementine as she comes close to me.
"You know he's just worried." She tells me and I nod.
"There is no need to be worried about me anyway so." I mumbled.
"What has gotten into you these past few days?" She asked.
"Nothing, I don't need to be coddled, I don't need to be checked on, if I need to, I'd talk about it now just." I stopped as I looked at her and she looked back to me.
"Violet."
"Look just... we need to get the house ready." I say as I moved past her.
"Did you want to leave?" she asked.
"I don't know, I know how you felt, can't stay in one place for so long I just... I don't want us to move but we have no choice sometimes and the walkers don't make things easy, we don't see them a lot but they're still there waiting on us and stupid shit, I have no clue I'm just rambling." I muttered a bit as I looked to her.
"I get it, I know that feeling and I don't blame you for feeling that way." She tells me and I nod once more as I look to see AJ and Mary talking.
"You ever going to go see Javie and them? As far as I know I'm not welcomed." I ask her as we head over to the kids and help them a bit.
"No there's no point in going to them if you can't come with me, plus I'm still not trusting David, Javie on the other hand is ok but I have no clue these days." She says and I roll my eyes a bit.
"You think I want to be near them? After what happened back at our last community." I say and she looked at me as I nail in the boards.
"Can we just drop the topic." She says.
"No, we need to talk about it."
"She brainwashed you."
"I never said she was perfect, I was thinking of your safety, the kid's safety, I had nothing else." I told her as I finished up and looked to her.
"We could have left; we wouldn't have dealt with any of the stuff that happened."
"That's a lie and you know it, regardless that doesn't change what Javie and his brother did to us, did to me, I just... it's not right."
"Nothing is right these days."
"Of fucking course, they aren't in this world we fucking do what we want with no consequences right?" I asked.
"I didn't mean it like that Violet."
"Can you two stop arguing." I hear AJ say and I sigh as I try to calm down a bit.
"The world is fucked and everything else is fucked might as well just let people get away with things they shouldn't." I mumbled as I walked inside the house and looked for more wood to use on the windows. Once we finished up with the house, we all decided to go inside as I saw a walker come out from the woods. We kept quiet for a few hours as we heard the walkers, growl and groan and shamble along the gravel and dirt I looked over to clementine as she was reading a book with AJ and Mary doing the same and I just looked through the cracks of the boarded window to make sure no walkers took down the makeshift fence we made. All I ever been doing is keeping my guard up these past few years, now I know how clementine felt when she first came to the school, no sleep no nothing just doing what needs to be done to survive trying to take care of a kid too.
"Violet you good?" I hear and turn my head just a bit to look at them and I nod a bit as I looked back to the window and kept watch. The heard was still coming in bigger numbers and I start to think a bit.
"Ever wonder why they act like animals when they're just dead humans?" I wondered out loud.
"No idea, maybe it has to do a lot with the stuff that brings the dead back." Clementine says and I nod.
"Or it could be what we use to do before society changed us all to be on our own kind of thing." I say.
"Oh?" I hear and I nod.
"Yea we use to be in a group of people and helped each other out, then as society grew people's attitude changed, governments were built and then many other issues... hell it was probably the governments fault that the dead are walking around in the first place." I ramble a bit as I keep looking.
"Take a break I'll keep watch." I hear as I look up to see Clementine getting up.
"No, no I'm ok, you sit down and relax." I tell her as she came over and sat on my lap and I look at her.
"Well we can both watch." She says and I nod a bit as I look to see AJ and Mary asleep with Snow who laid next to them and I look back to Clementine as she looked out the window too.
"I didn't mean to act rude to you when we were working on the window." I say.
"You weren't." She says and I roll my eyes a bit as I look around the room and I then place my hands on her hips as she turned her head a bit to look at me and I look back to the window.
"So, Carvers old group members hu?" I asked and she looked to me.
"The people you met at the radio tower?" She asked and I nodded a bit.
"Yea... They good people or no?" I asked.
"Some of them I suppose, I didn't get to know them all too well due to us trying to leave, but I only knew the cabin group which was an extension of Carvers old group I suppose." She says and I nod a bit.
"Right, right." I say and she nods a bit and I lay my head back a bit to look at the ceiling.
"You tired?" she asked.
"A bit but nothing to worry about." I say and look back to the window and I saw some lights.
"Lights." She says and I nod as I helped her up off my lap and she went and grabbed her gun and the kids woke up as I got over to the door.
"What's going on?" AJ asked as Clem handed him his gun and I gave Mary her gun.
"We saw some lights in the heard of walkers, so either there's more whisperers or someone else." I whispered as I stay by the door and I hear some people talking.
"Shit the door won't budge." I hear as I look to Clementine and she nods as I grabbed the handle and turned it slowly and opened the door as we all pointed our guns to them.
"SHIT!" one of the people said out of fear and the other person covered their mouth.
"Louis, Aasim, Omar?" I say as they looked to us.
"Vi?" Aasim says and I let them all in and close the door and block it off.
"Aasim, Omar." AJ says happily as he gives them a hug.
"Shhh, walkers coming up the steps." I say quietly and we all kept our mouth shut as the walker banged on the door a bit and I kept my body pressed to it to hold it close just in case. It took a while for it to give up and I looked to the three.
"The hell are you three doing out there?" I asked.
"We went looking for more supplies with James, but we got lost in the heard, so we came to the first house we saw." Omar explained and I nod a bit at this.
"James is alive?" Clementine asked and we all nodded.
"Yea, he helped them destroy Joan's community with the walkers and stuff." I explained to her.
"Wait how do you know?" She asked.
"When Javie and them kept me locked up they told me after I kind of woke up from being shot in the side." I tell her.
"Which I'm going to kick his ass for." I heard Clem mutter.
"Look right now let's just keep quiet, I don't want to deal with walkers right now." I say as I look all of them then head back to my seat as I watch out the window again and I watch as Louis follows Clementine into the kitchen, I know she'll call me when and if she needs help.
"Thanks for letting us in." I hear and look to Louis and I nod. Clem and the others were in the kitchen talking as they made some food for the three of them.
"Yea." I mumbled as I sat back in the chair and looked out the window.
"Vi." He says.
"Yea?" I asked, I might as well be civil at this point to not upset anyone.
"Hm, I wanted to apologize to you and everything." He says and I look at him just a bit but I was still able to look out the window.
"Why?" I asked.
"Can I not just apologize?" He asked.
"You can but why should you?" I asked him and he looked at me.
"I was an ass, I was just upset, I didn't want you to be on your own waiting for someone who could have been dead." He says and I look to him fully as I took my eyes away from the window.
"I'm not going to say you were right, but I'm not going to say you're wrong either... After Tenn. I just didn't want to think I'd lose Clementine too." I muttered a bit and looked to her as she gave Omar some deer meat to try.
"Doesn't matter anyway it happened years ago, it's done and over with." I say and look back to the window.
"Still I wanted to say sorry." He says.
"Well you can start by saying sorry for tackling me into the ground." I say to him.
"Yea... I couldn't shoot you, heck I didn't even have a gun to use so, I probably would have been a shit shot." He says and I looked at him.
"Need to learn these days, it's the best thing people got going for all this mayhem." I tell him as I take a look out the window for a bit longer to see any walkers, they were pretty much all over the entire house at this point and I tighten my grip on my rifle, honestly you can't be to careful these days, walkers may be dying but they're still around and still very dangerous.
"Did... Did you really mean it? You never forced people in that group?" He asked and I look at him.
"I never did, I gave them the option, something I really didn't get to have, I gave people a map, some supplies, and told them to come back if they couldn't find a home, we'd take care of them." I explained as he looked at me.
"I thought the place was good, but no one saw what really happened with us." I muttered as I remember Joan hitting me with a bat once and I shake my head and sigh.
"I mean, the way you make it sound is if it was bad." He says and I think a bit as I look at him.
"hmm." I sighed and I think some more.
"It was good for everyone else because of me." I tell him.
"So, the leader was bad?" He asked and I nodded.
"Joan was a sick bitch that would discipline you with a bat to the head if you did something wrong." I tell him.
"But you weren't bad?" He asked and I shook my head no.
"I have no reason to be... I want people to live not die, I couldn't harm anyone who hadn't done me wrong."
"But I've done you wrong... Why did you save me than?" He asked.
"Cause you're and idiot... But I still think of you as a friend... plus Clementine and AJ would think I've gone crazy for letting you stay out there... They already keep an eye on me." I muttered the last part.
"Why would they?" He asked.
"Drop it, just get some food." I tell him as I watch the walkers outside as they shuffled in the mud. I. hear him get up and that's all I do is watch the walkers and listen in a bit.
"Violet this deer meat is good." Omar says and I nod.
"Thanks, it was my grandpa's old recipe." I tell him.
"Well you need to tell me the recipe one day." He says and I nod a bit.
"Are you ok?" Aasim asked and I look to them all and I see Clem and AJ looking at me a bit worried and I nod.
"Yea, I'm fine just trying to make sure walkers don't try to come up on the porch is all, can't be to careful these days." I tell them all and they nod a bit.
"So where is Ruby and the kids?" I asked as I sat up a bit in the chair rifle in lap.
"They're back with David and them, we were all probably heading into the town down in the city area in the next state close to here to see if there are any supplies left." Louis says.
"I wouldn't go there, I did a while back and walkers were in almost every building, I think it was a quarantine spot and people just abandoned it." I tell them.
"Oh, well thank you for the information." Omar says and I nod and think.
"There is a small countryside area that has some supplies, I grabbed some there, but I left any food and some bandages, might not be a lot but it's better than nothing right?' I asked and they nodded as they took this in, and I got up and grabbed the maps.
"So, uh AJ how's it been?" Louis asked and I look to AJ who glared at louis a bit.
"Still mad hu?" He asked the boy and he nods and I sigh. I can't tell AJ to just forgive it's up to himself now, he's a grown boy.
"Yea I'm still mad." He says and Louis nods and I set the map out to help them any way I can.
"Maybe if you guys want you can all stay here? I mean it would be great to have the whole group back hu?" I offered and they all looked to me.
"You don't have to just saying... we can build a good fence around here, we got really good game out here too, it's just like the school just with a house... There's some room we can even extend the house." I explained a bit.
"We'll think on it ok?" Aasim says and I nod and help them out more. It wasn't long till they got this planned out and we all just sat and waited on the walkers to leave.
"There's more than I thought, this is the biggest heard I've been in." Clementine says.
"Yea, James got more of them with him but most of them were already in a heard that just merged into his, just didn't know it was this many." Omar explained and I look at the window.
"You good?" I heard Clementine says and I nod.
"Yea." I mumbled and I look to her and smile a bit.
"You can all sleep here till the heard passes by we have extra blankets in the closet." Clem says as she gets up along with Mary to go and grab them all a blanket and pillow each, I then went into the kitchen and grabbed a drink and sighed as I drank the entire bottle of beer and shook my head at the taste.
"You sure you're ok?" I hear and look to Omar.
"Yea, I'm fine, fine as can be." I tell him and he takes a seat at the table and makes a motion for me to also sit. I think a bit as I grabbed a few more beers and sat them at the table and offered him one, which he declined, and I nodded as I drank some more.
"You been doing ok?" He asked and I nod a bit and think.
"I um... I uh told Clementine I wanted to kill myself." I admit to him and he looked to me, eyes wide and in shock and I drank as I looked away from him, I didn't want to see that look on his face of all people.
"You... Vi... I." he tried to say, and I sigh a bit.
"I didn't as you can see, and I thought about it... But then realized I would have been no better than my grandmother, and I just don't want to upset the kids... Or Clem." I tell him and then take another drink.
"You should talk when you have bad thoughts though Violet." He says and I nod.
"I know, I talk about it sometimes to Clem, and she tries to help... I talk about anything that she'll listen too, and then she'll talk to about her past and people she knew with the same issues as me... I've been ok trust me Clem is helping any way she can." I tell him and he nods a bit and I drink.
"You sure you don't want one?" I asked and he nods.
"Need to stay sober for when we leave." He says and I nod a bit.
"Do you want to stay with us one day?" I asked as I look at him.
"I do, I will, one day." He says and I just nod as I look out the window and I see a walker walking past it.
"Walkers are starting to get smaller, but I think with a heard this huge there's going to be some issues." He says.
"Yea, big heards, one walker hiding, blah blah blah, it's all bad for us living people, but the living is far worse in all honesty." I tell him.
"Yea, the living are the worst, can't catch a break, get robbed, get drawn out of your own home... People can't understand that others want to be on their own, it's scary sometimes." He says.
"Yea tell me about it, even with Clem, AJ, and Mary, I still get scared, I mean not in a bad way just... Scared I'll lose them be it because of myself, or someone else, or even walkers... but what can ya do these days." I take another drink and I open a new bottle and look to Omar as I see Clem walk in the kitchen.
"We have your rooms set so you can sleep Omar." She tells him and he nods as he gets up, pats my shoulder and leaves. I look to Clem as she comes over to me and takes my beer and takes a drink of it.
"Kids in bed?" I asked and she nods, and I open another beer.
"You and Omar talk about anything?" She asked and I nod.
"Just normal stuff we use to talk a lot... If you didn't realize it but I trust Omar more than a lot of people, mostly because he doesn't blab about some things." I tell her.
"I can see that."
"He's kind of like a therapist... Guess he got that from his teacher, he wanted to be a therapist at one point, then he wanted to be a cook, makes a mean rabbit stew." I joked and chuckled a bit as I drank.
"Here, here." She says as she took a drink too and I look at her.
"I had some bad thoughts again." I tell her.
"Which ones?" She asked as she placed the beer on the table, and I looked to my bottle and spun it a bit in my hands slowly.
"Joan." I tell her.
"Oh... want to talk about it?" She asked and I nodded a bit.
"Ok... start." She says.
"She hit me in the head with a bat once." I say and look to her.
"Surprised I didn't die with that but hey, got a thick head." I joked as I tapped my head a bit with my fist. I then looked down a bit and sighed.
"I just had the thought when Louis said something... it popped in my head and I don't know why." I say and took another drink.
"Did he say anything about the community?" she asked, and I nodded.
"Yea he asked something." I muttered and she nods, and I think.
"But I thought I was over it, I don't want to remember, I hate it, it's like reliving my grandma's death over and over again but with beatings and I still feel the pain but it's not there my head hurts just remembering that day." I say.
"I never heard someone explain it like that, must be like the phantom limb thing but with pain, it's not there but you think it is and you still feel the pain of it being there... It's like a really bad itch but there's nothing to scratch." She says and I smile a bit.
"Is that how your leg feels?" I asked.
"What?"
"Is that how your leg feels? You can feel it, the pain but it doesn't go away but then it does?" I asked and she nods.
"Yea, sometimes, trauma can cause it to happen especially if It was so bad you can feel it, I can still feel the walker biting into it." She says and shivers.
"Hm, sorry shouldn't have asked."
"No, it's ok to ask, whatever helps you." She says and I look at her.
"Did I help you a lot?" I asked.
"Of course, you did, why would you ask that?" She looked at me a bit worried.
"No reason, I just wanted to know if I did good, someway at least... After keeping you at Joan's I don't know why but I feel that I haven't done enough to pay back from the year we spent there." I tell her truthfully as I take another drink and look at the table then to the wall.
"You've done good, don't think otherwise."
"You've done good too... I mean look at AJ, he's almost taller than me." I joke and she laughed a bit.
"You've done good Violet, I know you'll think you didn't, but you have, you tried to keep us safe, I can see that honestly I can I was in your shoes at some point in time." She tells me.
"Yea but you were a kid."
"Doesn't mean I can be a hypocrite and tell you, you can't, you never left your school for eight years, you never had to deal with this stuff... We should have never left."
"Hmm, I don't know, if we didn't things may have been different, but we did, and we can't change it... No matter how hard we try we can't change it." I say to her and she looked to me.
"I don't want you going hunting tomorrow." She says and I look to her.
"Bu-." She lifts her hands up before I could say anything.
"You've had a few drinks, you were thinking bad thoughts, you need to sit back, relax, heck go out in the garden if you want to work on something if you need to do something with your hands, but I don't want you going out with a gun in the woods for a while, we agreed on this you know." She says and I nod a bit as I look at the beers.
"Alright... But we need to get some meat at least sometime by the end of the week." I tell her and she nods.
"AJ and I can go hunting." But before I could say anything, she stops me again.
"AJ and I know what to do Violet, he knows what to do and so do I." She says.
"But what if your leg breaks or something bad." I counteracted and she looked to me.
"I know you're going to worry but I promise, if anything happens AJ and I can handle it, besides we haven't gone hunting in a long time." She says and I nod a bit as she comes close to me and places a hand on my cheek and strokes it and I look at her.
"Just keep Mary safe is all." She says and I nod.
"Yea... Yea I can do that." I say and she nods as she moved her hand away and I grab it and just hold it in my own hand, stroking it gently with my thumb and I think a bit as I look t her and I kiss her cheek a bit. It wasn't long till we went to bed after making sure the doors were secured and checked in on the kids and three new guests, I laid in the bed thinking as Clementine was asleep. I couldn't sleep if I did, I would have bad dreams and I hated them, but if I didn't sleep Clementine would get to worried, my thoughts were racing an before I knew it, I finally was able to fall asleep. I would have to say a few hours passed before I woke up, I looked to the side of the bed to see Clementine still asleep hair in her face and I smiled as I moved the hair away and I got up a bit to not wake her. I then looked out the window and saw a few walkers but not much to be considered a heard. I grabbed my gun as I went down the stairs and I slowly opened the door to make sure no one was up as I saw a walker at the door, I closed it before it really got the chance to grab me.
"Fuck... that was close." I muttered as I grabbed the knife from my side and opened the door again and stabbed the walker in the head before it could grab me. Once it fell to the ground, I looked out to see the other walkers as they didn't notice their friend and went about as if nothing happened. I opened the door more and I went up to the Walkers and started to kill them one by one as quickly and quietly as I could that is. It wasn't long till I got the last walker and I sigh as I dragged the bodies into a pile to burn in a bit, I hear the door open and look to see Clementine looking at me.
"You don't listen hu?" She asked as I took a look at the bodies and I grabbed my lighter I found and a bit of fuel from the gas tank as I burned the bodies.
"You never said I couldn't kill the walkers on our property, I was protecting us." I say simply as I walk up to her and look down at her.
"Ok you got me on that, but next time have someone with you while you do that, I don't want you to get hurt." She says and I take a good look at her and I think to last night and shake my head a bit.
"Bad thoughts again?" she asked, and I shook mu head no at this and she nods a bit, she knows to let me be and I will talk when I want to. I help her inside the house as the group of three come down and I start working on breakfast for everyone, it wasn't long till Mary and AJ finally came down and they also ate their breakfast, I didn't make a plate I wasn't that hungry anyway, but I see Clementine looking at me and I shake my head again and she sighs just a bit but not to let others notice. I help her and AJ get prepared for their little hunting trip by giving them their bags just in case things go a bit south for them, which I don't doubt.
"remember if Clementine's leg starts to hurt her, you bring her back, kicking and screaming." I tell him and he nods.
"I know, I know, also don't shoot the does this time around, get the buck, if walkers are to close or nearby, don't risk the shot even if I think I can make it to the deer, and if things head south, use the maps and head to the next safest area if we can't get back to this cabin, also if Clem needs a break give her time to rest." He said repeating our rules and I nod.
"Most important rule?" I asked him and he thought for a bit.
"Don't leave anyone behind, and don't try to be a hero." He says and I nod as I look to Clementine and she nods as well, and I think a bit. I head in the house real quick and grab some radios that I had found a while back and handed them one and I kept the other on me.
"Please be careful and radio if you need help." I tell them and they both nod an I give them their hugs before they left, I watched as they disappeared into the woods and I went to help Mary in the garden, and I looked to the other three.
"If you guys want to, you can all head out to David's group, ain't much walkers nearby." I tell them and they nod as they get their stuff ready. I watched as Mary cut the bad leaves off the plants and I look at her.
"Why do we do that?" I asked her.
"We use the dead leaves for compost later on." She says and I nod and looked to see the three heading out of the house and I pat her shoulder as I go up to them.
"We'll be heading out now thanks for letting us stay Vi." Omar says and the other two nods as I nod as well.
"Yea, we're still family anyway so." I muttered and they nod as they take their leave. Hours had passed since they left and I look to the woods waiting for Clementine and AJ to come back, I don't know why but I just started to think the worst cases but I shouldn't not now, they're fine, they're ok, Clem has AJ and He has her it all works out.
"You ok Violet?" I heard and turned to see Joan and I shook my head and saw that it was Mary and I shut my eyes a bit.
"Yea, I'm fine." I say.
"You sure about that?" She asked me again and I nod.
"Yea, you know me, just miss Clementine and AJ when they go out on their own." I say as I looked to her.
"I finished in the garden is there anything else?" she asked.
"Hmmm not that I know of, I got some of the fence fixed from the walkers last night, but I need to get stronger material if we stay here any longer." I explained to her and she nods.
"We could go into town and get some concreate and rocks, make a really tall wall." She says and I think bac to the school and I take a good look to Mary as I see her smile at her own plan, I see Tenn. as he smiled to me showing me his drawings, back when we were on the farm, back at the school. I shook my head again as I tried to stop thinking about him and I look to see Mary as she gave me a concerned look and I shook my head a bit.
"I'm fine, uh how about you go inside while I wait for Clementine and AJ, you can go check the ammo and batteries." I tell her and she nods as she heads inside, and I look to the woods again. I don't know how long I was looking but I saw some movement and for some stupid reason I walked up to investigate it, I looked to see a walker, a boy that is, he looked no older than Tenn. before he died and I just looked to him, I couldn't take my eyes off him as I Just watched him walk in a bit of a circle. Is this what Tenn. would have been if he was turned into a walker? I have no idea.
"VIOLET?!" I heard someone call out, but I don't know who, I just couldn't take my eyes away from the boy as I slowly sat on the ground and just watched him. He didn't even notice I was there; would Tenn. have done the same as this walker, just walk around and not care? Maybe the walker didn't notice I was here? Maybe it did.
"VIOLET, WHERE ARE YOU?!" I hear again but I don't know who it is, and I don't care, can't they see I'm just watching this. Walker. Can't they see I was watching Tenn. I kept looking at him as he finally turned to face me, I got a really good look at his face as he came up to me slowly, but I just sat there, why should I move? No one needs me, Clem and AJ can take care of Mary, they've taken care of themselves before they met me. Thought that was so many years ago since they came into our lives, fuck I can't remember how long ago it was since this world went to shit.
"VIOLET!" I heard once more as I just sat there and watched as the Walkers head was blown off, blood splattering on my face and I watched him as he dropped to the ground, we were back at the farm I saw his head get blown in my face by some monster. I didn't move my body, but I moved my head to look at the body of the boy and I looked up to see AJ as he ran up to me and I just blinked a bit.
"FOR FUCK SAKE VIOLET WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?!" He yelled at me as I slowly got up and just looked to the boy and I shook my head a bit as I picked up the body and walked past AJ.
"Violet, it's dead." He says and I just kept to myself. He shot the boy he didn't do anything wrong it didn't bite me, it's Tenn. he would never bite me, even as a walker he wouldn't... would he?
"What they hell are you doing Violet?" He asked and I finally got out of the woods and onto the road.
"Burying Tenn." I muttered.
"That's not Tenn." He says.
"Yes, it is, Tenn., was a walker, he never got buried, we need to bury him." I muttered more so to myself as I finally got to an open area on our property and I set the body down. Blood and other liquids caked the front of my shirt but I didn't care, I just needed to bury Tenn. that was all.
"Vi?" I heard and looked to see Clementine as I grabbed the shovel.
"Got to Bury Tenn." I tell her simply and walk back to the body.
"Bury Tenn.? What are you talking-." I didn't hear anything else as she walked next to me and I just started to work on the hole. I would have to make a cross later on for him, I'll make sure it's a good one too.
"Vi, that's a walker, that's not Tenn." She says and I look at her.
"No, it's him, he was turned into a walker, we just didn't do anything." I muttered as I got to work.
"Violet, Tenn. died nine years ago." She said and I shook my head.
"Yea, he's been a walker for nine years not let me bury him." I say to her as I feel her hand on me, I quickly turn, and I feel a few raindrops hit my shirt.
"He never turned Violet; you know that." She says and I shook my head no.
"No, no he turned he wanted me to bury him he followed us and now I can bury him." I tell her as I gripped the shovel tightly.
"He wanted us to bury him, so he followed us." I muttered and I looked at her.
"Violet, he was shot in the head... you don't remember?" she asked, and I shook my head.
"He was not, he was a walker he followed us here so we could bury him, he's a smart kid even as a walker, see Clem, he's smart he knew where we were." I tell her and she pulled me to her, my head in her shoulder.
"He's a smart kid, he knew where we were." I muttered in her shirt.
"Yes, he was a smart kid Violet." She says and I think a bit.
"He wasn't going to bite me I swear, he wouldn't do that." I tell her as I pull away from her. She placed her hand on my cheek as I look at her face, why did she look worried?
"No, he wouldn't bite, why don't you let AJ and I take care of Tenn. ok?" She asked, and I shook my head.
"No, No I got to do it I promised I would." I tell her.
"Well, why don't you work on his cross ok? Then you can put him in his grave?" she asked, and I look at her.
"You aren't going to burn him, are you?" I asked.
"No, no, we're going to bury him I swear." She says and I look to the body then to her.
"Hm, but I promised." I tell her.
"You can place him in, he needs a cross, doesn't he?" She asked and I nod just a bit and I hand her the shovel gently.
"I'll make him a good cross." I muttered as I went to get two planks of wood and a knife, I went to the porch to watch Clem and AJ to make sure they were making the grave, why would I distrust them? I shook my head as I started to work on Tenn.'s cross on my own with my knife I felt someone sit by me and I looked to see Mary but then I went back to work on the cross. I don't know how long it took but I was able to carve out Tennessee's full name on the wood plank and I grabbed some of the rope as I tied it all together. I looked up to see Clementine wave me over and I get up and I bring the makeshift cross over to the grave as I placed it behind the hole and I looked to see the body covered in a sheet and I nod as I get in the hole and I slowly place the body into the grave with me. I climbed out a bit and I grabbed the shovel and started to bury the body. I looked to Clementine and the kids as I finished and patted the soil and I stabbed the shovel in the ground to keep it upright. I looked at the grave and I didn't say anything.
"Do you want to say anything?" Clem asked and I shook my head no.
"No... no, not now... I'm just tired." I say as I looked at the grave and felt the raindrops again and I looked at the sky, but it wasn't grey or anything. I shook my head a bit as I headed back inside the cabin and headed up to my room, where I just sat on the bed and looked at the wall a bit. It wasn't long till I heard the others come in the house and I looked up to see Clementine at the door of our room as she looked at me.
