Ch. 4: Shokkinguna keiji

After several minutes, the scene shifts at one of the holding cells where a prisoner is sitting on a bed. An African-American, who looked a bit ragged, suggesting that he has been held prisoner for an undetermined number of days.

He appeared to be losing hope as no one has ever attempted to rescue him or pay a ransom. As he wondered what will his fate be, he heard something from the ceiling, where a ceiling gate opened and someone came out.

It was Midoriya, and he stealthily landed on the floor without making a sound. The prisoner was taken aback seeing a teenage boy, who is obviously shorter than him, and there Midoriya spoke to the prisoner, seeing that he appeared to be not well-fed, and given the surrounding condition inside the cell, Midoriya is sure that the hostage-takers have no qualms about keeping their prisoners alive.

"What the…?"

"Calm down, sir."

"A kid…?"

"…"

"Are you Asian…?

"Yes."

"For real?"

"Yes, sir."

The man who is kept prisoner is identified as Donald Anderson, chief of DARPA, and there he was a bit wary as he is unsure if Midoriya is his rescuer or if he is one of the group who kept him here.

He had to make sure that Midoriya is not a threat to him and demanded to know what does he want and what is he intending to do to him, but the younger boy puts the DARPA chief at ease by telling him that he is here to rescue him, which made Anderson stare in disbelief, not expecting that his rescuer would be a 16-year old boy who appeared as a young boy who graduated middle school.

"I can't believe what I'm seeing…"

"Huh?"

"My rescuer is actually a kid…?"

"Well, sir…"

"I thought it was a pro hero…"

"Sorry…but I was sent here on short notice…and they felt that time is of the essence…and I guess that my superiors think that I'm their best option…"

"So you're not one of my captors, huh?"

"No, sir."

Seeing that Midoriya is not a threat and that the teen boy gave his assurance that he will rescue him and wanting information about the captors, Anderson decided to place his trust on his young rescuer, and informed Midoriya that the terrorists have taken over this place and what he knows about the terrorists' goals, as well as saying that the terrorists had the ability to launch a nuclear strike thanks to Metal Gear REX.

Midoriya blinked his eyes at hearing this, and seeing that Midoriya is unaware of this, Anderson reluctantly told him about this weapon, and the existence it of which shocked the younger boy. He questioned why make such a dangerous weapon if it is susceptible to falling into the wrong hands, which Anderson regretfully said that he never thought something like this would happen in a blink of an eye.

"How can you not see this? The risks involved…"

"I'm sorry…"

"Is it still here…?"

"Yes."

"Have they managed to activate it?"

"No…not yet…"

"Then there's still time…is there a way to stop this?"

"…"

Filled with concern, Midoriya pressed for more information, and Anderson also explained that the terrorists needed two detonation codes to arm REX: one from himself, which the terrorists already had, and one from Kenneth Baker. Fortunately for Midoriya, there was a PAL system that he could use to deactivate REX, via three card keys.

Midoriya asked if he managed to get a glimpse of his captors, which he said that he is unable to due to being escorted to his cell by guards, but he did say that he overheard one of the guards said that the captors possess Quirks and that the leader is said to be a hot-blooded, hot-headed teenager, describing it to be of the same age as Midoriya.

"Huh?"

"You heard me, boy. The one running things here is another boy…around the same age as you. That's what I heard, at least…"

"A boy…same age as me…"

"Yeah…"

"Could it be…"

"Kid…?"

"…"

"Are you okay…? Kid…?"

Midoriya wondered if this is what Nezu told him about a UA Academy student going rogue, as his identity has yet to be disclosed, and upon hearing Anderson mentioning about Baker, Anderson told Midoriya about Baker, and where Midoriya could possibly find him, saying that Baker too is held prisoner somewhere within this fortress.

Unbeknownst to Midoriya and Anderson, there is someone else next to them, as the scene shifts at another cell where another prisoner is held, a shapely and attractive pale-skinned young woman of slightly above average height with quite a round face. She has wavy blonde hair which reaches halfway down her back, two shorter pieces she leaves over her shoulders, side-swept bangs that frames her face, aqua-blue eyes with notable upper eyelashes, some slightly longer ones extending on each side and pronounced lower eyelashes.

She normally wears a white short-sleeved dress shirt with plaid cuffs, a large bow of the same design at her neck, and a dark raspberry pink waistcoat. Accompanying these are pale gray Capri pants, under which are a pair of plaid pink socks as well as a pair of heeled brown boots. She also wears a wristwatch and pink, oval-framed glasses.

She appeared to be roughly a teenage person close to Midoriya by age, and there she somewhat overheard the conversation between Midoriya and Anderson, wondering what is going on and what is happening there, which she became suspicious and worried, and is considering in calling them out to see if Anderson is in danger or not.

"Is Anderson in danger…?"

The scene shifts back to Anderson's cell where Midoriya decided to get Anderson out of here, but the latter then asked Midoriya who sent him here, in which the younger boy told him who sent him here, which made Anderson react with suspicion, and began asking if anyone else is involved, such as the Pentagon and the CIA, which Midoriya deny it saying that mostly the higher-ups from Japan and nearby neighboring Asian countries are the ones who sent him here.

"So you came here straight from Japan...?"

"Yes."

"And the Japanese government is involved…?"

"Just a…few military officials from Japan...That's all…"

"Are you a pro hero? Which hero agency are you from…?"

"I'm still studying at UA Academy…"

"So the prime minister of your country is aware of this…?"

"No…"

Midoriya wondered why Anderson began asking him these kind of questions since it has nothing to do with anything, and tells him that they need to get out of here before the guards might show up, but Anderson insisted that he needs to know something before leaving, and began asking if the so-called higher-ups include officials from I-Island, which Midoriya deny, saying that he never heard of it and has never been there before.

"I-Island…?"

"It is an artificial moving island inhabited by over ten-thousand scientists conducting research on Quirks."

"Really…?"

"Yes. Every company in the world involved with the Pro Hero business invested money to create a technological paradise for the research and development of Quirks and support items. I-Island is an artificial moving island created for scientists to peacefully research together. Thousands of scientists and their families inhabit the island's main cities. Scientists primarily research the Quirk phenomenon and develop tools to support Pro Heroes."

"I see…well, never mind it. We got to get you out…"

"But what about Baker...?"

"I'll come back for him once I get you to safety. Please. We should go."

"Fine…"

Before Midoriya could escort the DARPA Chief to safety, Anderson suffered what appeared to be a heart attack and moaned in pain while clutching his chest, convulsing around while laying on the ground, moaning and screaming, which the female prisoner in the next cell became concerned and tried to call out Anderson, but her cries were not heard due to Midoriya focused on Anderson, where seconds later he fell dead.

Using his codec, he told Nezu what happened, and the UA Academy principal was surprised to hear this as he said that he knows that Anderson was a healthy and athletic person in his prime and that there is no way he could suffer a heart attack as Anderson has no vices, as he never smoke or drink alcoholic beverages, which baffled Midoriya.

"Are you sure?"

"Yes, Midoriya."

"Then how…?"

"I am not sure how…"

"…"

"This is something we do not expect…"

"Principal Nezu…"

"Listen well, Midoriya…"

Seeing that things are getting complicated, and time is of the essence, Nezu tells Midoriya to go find Baker, and rescue him and escape the fortress, which Midoriya nodded, and he reluctantly leaves the dead Anderson behind as he felt regret that he failed to save a hostage and experience the death of a person in front of him, which made him feel uneasy yet he had to steel his resolve.

He then brought out what appeared to be a card key, which is revealed to be one of Mei Hatsume's invention, in which she said that the key can hack into any lock, and using it, Midoriya got out of the cell, and as soon as he stepped out, he is greeted by the female prisoner, who is armed with a high-powered gun that resembled a socom.

Seeing that Anderson was dead, she accuses Midoriya of killing the DARPA chief, but Midoriya defended himself and told her what happened, which she expressed doubts, saying that Anderson is a healthy person and never did anything that would compromise his cardiopulmonary health, and she demanded to know what Midoriya did to Anderson, which Midoriya insisted that the DARPA chief died in such mysterious circumstances.

"You lie!"

"I'm not!"

"How did Anderson die?"

"Like I said, he suddenly had a heart attack!"

"There is no way something like that would happen!"

"Its true! I was sent here to rescue him…and this happened…"

"You can't fool me!"

"I said that I didn't kill the DARPA chief!"

Given that she is unaware of the fact that Midoriya came here to rescue the prisoners, the teen girl refuse to believe him and pressed the nozzle of the gun on the boy's chest, demanding to know what he did to Anderson, which Midoriya stood his ground and said that Anderson died from what appeared to be a heart attack and he is not involved in the DARPA chief's sudden death.

"You lie!"

"I'm not!"

"You expect me to believe what you said?"

"Because it's the truth! Like I said, he suddenly had a heart attack!"

"And there is no way something like that would happen! I've been with him before! He is as healthy as an athlete!"

"But…"

"You can't fool me! What did you do? How did you kill him?"

"I said that I didn't kill the DARPA chief!"

The teen girl glared at Midoriya, as she refused to believe that he is not involved in Anderson's death and asked him if he is involved with the captors in this fortress, which he deny, saying that he was sent here to rescue the prisoners and stop the terrorists no matter what, which the teen girl remained suspicious, as Midoriya said that if he is the culprit he would have OVERPOWERED her and kill her on the spot.

"If I'm the culprit…why didn't I use my Quirk on you?"

"…"

"If I'm the culprit why am I talking to you and not make an escape?"

"…"

"I say it again…something happened to him. If he is as healthy as you claim…then why did he had a sudden heart attack?"

"…"

"I'm really sorry…but I did not kill him…"

"…"

Then he noticed that the beeper from the door in front is blinking, and he realized that the enemy is just moments away from entering, and he asked her if she is willing to kill in order to stay alive, and he can tell that she hasn't taken a life as he noticed her nervous look while shaking slightly, and there he tells her to hide inside the cell while he will deal with the enemy troops.

"Go inside the cell and hide."

"Eh?"

"The ones who are about to enter are professional terrorists. They won't hesitate to even kill a child."

"…"

"Hopefully they are Quirkless...If they aren't then we're in for a rough situation. Go and hide."

"But…"

"I'll do what I can to protect you. Just go and hide."

"…"

Hope you liked this chapter, as Midoriya appeared to be in an unexpected situation. What was supposed to be a rescue mission turn into a complication as his first target to rescue died suddenly of mysterious circumstances, and now he is facing another…

The female character is unidentified yet, but the clues are there and this girl appeared in the anime (though I won't divulge it just yet due to plot purposes)…
