Hey, everybody. Back with another chapter. I decided to just go ahead and post it today.
So, this one will show some vents of the Vietnamese insurgency, as well as Adams on the Death Star. Hope you like it.
Let's get to it.
Guest DCDGojira: I'll reveal the new members over the course of the story. Not sure if Adams will receive a visit from Obi Wan after Yavin.
MR11: Maybe.
Guest: I'll probably address the human question at some point, but not sure when.
Kommando Kronk: Yes. The London class visually look just like the Victory class, just bigger, and I actually envision the Repulse class battlecruiser looking almost identical to the Resurgent class ships of the First Order. I'll come up with other designs as soon as I can.
BlackWatcher1234: In order: 1) They haven't arrived yet. They'll arrive during the battle. 2)Yes, there will be at least fight between Ahsoka and Vader, during which Vader will learn of Ahsoka's marriage and children. 3a) Not sure yet. 3b) No, it went pretty much the same. You'll see how Thrawn shows up later on. 4) Possibly. 5) Possibly. 6) Possibly
CT7567Rules: I am not familiar with Ghost Recon.
Sammyboy94: The Terran Alliance uses both blasters and normal firearms, especially now that their enemies use flesh and blood soldiers rather than droids. Those Deltas had both M4s and blasters.
Chapter 7- Insurgency
(September 18, 2013)
Mist moves slowly among the trees as it always does on Kashyyyk. In an area of forest not yet touched by the Empire, several hundred Wookiees are being marched along by several hundred stormtroopers. The Wookiees are being taken into this section of forest to cut down trees per an Imperial requirement.
However, unknown to the Wookiees or the stormtroopers, many pairs of eyes are watching the procession as it moves through the trees. Several figures leap through the trees, taking up better positions.
In one of the trees, Major Le Tanh settles his Dragunov SVD snipe rifle into position. He then raises his wrist commlink to his mouth. "All men, report in," he says.
Within the next minute, he hears 44 responses, saying that they're in position and ready to fire. Tanh centers his sniper rifle's sight on the head of one of the stormtroopers. Tanh keeps his sight centered on the trooper's head, then pulls the trigger.
The rifle sends a 30 caliber bullet right through the trooper's head, and the trooper collapses dead. Before the rest of the stormtroopers can even figure out where the shot came from, the remaining 44 men of the Vietnamese strike team open fire with their sniper rifles, each shot killing a stormtrooper.
The stormtrooper formation dissolves into chaos, with the troopers searching for the source of the shots. However, the Vietnamese' camouflage outfits and the thick trees keep them out of sight. The Vietnamese soldiers shift targets and continue firing their sniper rifles, each shot taking down a stormtrooper.
In just the space of just a minute and a half, the Vietnamese soldiers have killed 200 stormtroopers, leaving only 120 left. The remaining stormtroopers begin to realize that just standing out in the open trying to spot the Vietnamese isn't going to work, and start darting into the trees to take cover.
This plays right into the Vietnamese soldiers' hands. In addition to the 45 men in the trees with sniper rifles, two dozen are on the ground amidst the tries, armed with assault blasters as well as normal assault rifles. Most of them are dug in in foxholes, with plant life piled over their heads to keep them hidden.
As the stormtroopers start racing into the trees, the dug in Vietnamese soldiers open fire on the troopers, caught off guard, the stormtroopers look around wildly for the source of the fire, but see nothing. In just a few minutes, all of the remaining stormtroopers are dead.
The Wookiees are still standing where they stopped. As they look around, some of the Vietnamese troops make their way out of the trees.
"You're all free. The Imperials are likely to come for you. You must find a place to hide," Major Tanh says.
One of the Wookiees makes several growling sounds, and Tanh, who had learned to understand the Wookiee language, nods and says, "You are welcome. May we meet again." He then turns around and melts into the trees with the rest of the Vietnamese.
Tanh silently leads his men back through the trees towards the cave system used as a Vietnamese hideout. It's almost an hour walk before they finally they reach the cave system
As the Vietnamese enter the caves, they find the rest of the Vietnmaese insurgents and a handful of Wookiees who have joined them. After 19 years of the insurgency on Kashyyyk, only 184 of the original 372 Vietnamese insurgents are still alive, and of the ones still alive, 47 have grown too old for combat, leaving just 137 combat ready insurgents left, of which, the youngest is 39 years old, and the oldest is 50. There are also 30 Wookiees that have permanently joined the Vietnamese.
Major Kahn walks into the cave, and his superior, General Phuc Nguyen, walks up to him. Nguyen was now too old for combat, and had lost one of his arms during action on Kashyyyk, but he had appointed a General by the vote of his men, and still commanded them in all actions on Kashyyyk.
"Major. How went the mission?" General Nguyen asks.
"Excellent, General. We successfully killed all stormtroopers and set the Wookiees free," Major Tanh says.
"Excellent. Your men are excused, but I want you to come with me. We need to discuss our next operation," General Nguyen says.
Major Tanh nods and follows General Nguyen through the cave system to a cave used for leadership meetings. Six other officers and Wookiee are already gathered in the cave by the time Nguyen and Tanh walk in.
"Thank you for coming, gentlemen," Nguyen says. He then walks forward and, with his one remaining hand, activates the holotable before them. An image of an Imperial installation built on Kashyyyk comes up.
"This is an Imperial shuttle depot. It handles the transfer of supplies off of this region of Kashyyyk, and is one of only two such depots here on the planet. And we're going to destroy it," Nguyen says.
"Hmm. Definitely a more ambitious project than anything we've gone after in the last few years," one of the other commanders, Colonel Tran, says.
"It is, and more fortified than almost anything else we've gone after since we started our attacks on the Empire. It will take all of our skill and manpower to destroy the depot. However, should we destroy it, it will greatly hamper the Empire's activities here on Kashyyyk. And…if there's a shuttle there, it could give us the chance to begin getting our men off this planet," Nguyen says.
There are several glances exchanged around the table. Then, Major Tanh says, "Do you think we're ever gonna all get off this planet? Or do you think that the Alliance will ever come for us?"
"I do," Nguyen says simply.
There are a few moments of silence, then Colonel Tran says, "Well. From what I can see, there seems to be a wall around the shuttle depot with only one entrance. And it's heavily guarded, with at least thirty stormtroopers and one or two two-legged walkers guarding it outside at all times, with even more guards within the wall."
"That's not going to be easy to take. With the way its situated, the only way we could get in is if we charge it head on," Major Tanh says.
"Not necessarily. If you look at this hologram, there are a couple of very tall trees that have branches thick enough for snipers to sit on, and they're tall enough to see over the wall. If we can station snipers on those branches, it'll enable them to pick off guards within the wall, while the rest of our forces will attack the main gate," another commander, Lieutenant Colonel Trong, says.
"What about those walkers?" Tanh asks.
"They're going to be very difficult for us to disable. However, their windows may be the easiest way for us to disable them. The windows are reinforced, but if we shoot at them with sniper rifles, we might be able to weaken them enough for grenade launchers to break the rest of the way through. Once the windows are broken, we can fire more grenades into them and destroy them," Colonel Tran says.
Nguyen nods slowly. "I like this plan. It certainly seems like the easiest way," he says. He pauses for a few moments, then says, "We will set the date for this attack one month from now. We will need to gather intelligence on the patterns and schedule at the depot and formulate a more specific plan of attack."
Nguyen looks around at his commanders. "Men, this will be one of our most dangerous operations yet, but it could also be one of our most important. If we can steal a shuttle and tell the Alliance we're still trapped here, then perhaps they can come rescue us. But even if we can't, it's time we again struck a critical blow against the Empire," Nguyen says, to some cheers of his men.
(Death Star)
"Until this battle station is fully operational, we are vulnerable. The Rebel Alliance is too well equipped. They are more dangerous than you realize. More than that, they have the support of the Terran Alliance, which is far more dangerous than the Rebellion could ever be. Their troops left behind on Kashyyyk have proved that," General Tagge says.
"Dangerous to your Starfleet, Commander, not to this battle station," Admiral Motti responds.
"The rebellion will continue to gain support in the Imperial Senate…" Tagge begins to shoot back.
Right then, Grand Moff Tarkin walks in, with Vader behind him, and cuts into the conversation, "The Imperial Senate is no longer of any concern to us. I've just received word that the Emperor has dissolved the council permanently. The last remnants of the old Republic have been swept away."
"Impossible. How will the Emperor maintain control without the bureaucracy?" Tagge asks.
"The regional governors now have direct control over their territories. Fear will keep the local systems in line, and the Terrans out of this galaxy. Fear of this battlestation," Tarkin says.
"And what of the rebellion? If the rebels, or the Terrans, have obtained a complete technical readout of this station, it is possible, however unlikely, that they might find a weakness and exploit it," Tagge says.
"The plans you refer to will soon be back in our hands," Vader says.
"Any attack made by the Rebels or Terrans against this station would be a useless gesture, no matter what technical data they've obtained. This station is now the ultimate power in the universe. I suggest we use it," Motti says.
"Don't be too proud of this technological terror you've constructed. The ability to destroy a planet is insignificant next to the power of the Force," Vader says.
"Don't try to frighten us with your sorcerous ways, Lord Vader. Your sad devotion to that ancient religion has not helped you conjure up the stolen data tapes, or given you clairvoyance enough to find the rebels' hidden fortress.." Motti says, but he is suddenly cut off by Vader, who has walked near him, and begun to choke him with the Force.
Everyone around the table watches for several moments before Vader says, "I find your lack of faith disturbing."
"Enough of this. Vader, release him" Tarkin says firmly.
"As you wish," Vader says before relinquishing his hold on Motti, who falls forward against the table, breathing heavily.
"This bickering is pointless. Now Lord Vader will provide us with the location of the Rebel base by the time this station is operational. We will then crush the Rebellion with one swift stroke, and send a message to the Terrans that will ensure they will never think to challenge us," Tarkin says.
(Several hours later)
Adams looks intently down at the floor. He was brought to the Death Star along with Princess Leia Organa, although they were kept separate. In the brief moment they were in each other's company, Adams only mentioned his name. Despite feeling a slight temptation to do so, he refrained from telling Leia the truth that he was the one who had delivered her.
He's been in this cell ever since he was brought to the Death Star. Unlike Leia, who was free of restraints, Adams had his arms chained to the ceiling and his feet shackled to the floor.
Suddenly, he hears the door open. Adams looks up, and sees Vader entering the room.
The two stare at each other for several moments, then Adams says, "You certainly look different from the last time I saw you."
"Your age has slowed your skills. You are no longer a match for me," Vader says.
"Well, let me remind you that you can use the Force and I can't, so you kind of have an unfair advantage," Adams says.
Vader does not responds. After a few more moments, Adams says, "Why did you bring me here? What use do you still have for me?"
"You ASAT commandos cost me much. Your friend, Colonel Hall, took my limbs and disfigured me. And it was because of you that my wife was taken from me. You turned her against me. You cost me everything I once valued," Vader says.
"News flash. You did that yourself, you SOB. You fell for such an obvious lie and killed her yourself because of your turn to the dark side. You want to know why she really died? She died because she lost the will to live because of what she saw you'd turned into. I was there," Adams says.
Vader looks intently at Adams. Then, he says, "The insurrection and threat of the Terrans will be crushed. You will tell me of Terra's defenses. Its weaknesses. And you will tell me where to find Colonel Hall. If you tell me what I wish to know, I will give you a more painless death than you deserve. Refuse, and I will take great pleasure in killing you slowly and painful."
"Do your worst, Anakin," Adams says.
Adams then sees a flash of black before he feels Vader's fist connect with his face. Adams' head snaps to the side from the blow, but he quickly looks back at Vader. "That was it?" he asks.
"I told you. Anakin Skywalker is dead. And soon, so will you," Vader says.
Right then, the door opens again, and two stormtroopers walk in, wielding electrostaffs. They walk forward and jab the staffs into Adams' stomach.
Adams shouts once in pain, but steels himself and looks Vader right in the face, determined not to give Vader any satisfaction.
And, I'll end there. Hope you liked this chapter.
So, the Vietnamese insurgency is still going on, and the force is down to almost a third of its original fighting strength after the Clone Wars. Also, for those wondering, I will be showing the mission they were planning in a future chapter. That will be when the remaining Vietnamese are rescued.
Hope you liked the scene with Adams and Vader. I was tempted to have Vader remove his mask and show Adams what Hall did to him, but I scrapped that idea while writing this chapter.
So, next chapter will be one I think you'll like. It'll be up tomorrow. Until then, leave a review, and stay tuned!
